How did you find this website? Were you searching for it, see an ad or an email? It might be easier to try to target information if there was a specific pathway they used.

Plot twist: OP mas been making his own Ledger phishing sites just to be able to report them here on Bitcointalk.

Jokes aside, it's very likely to be a Ledger Google ad. I think it's pretty safe to assume that scammers are mostly placing their baits on Google as it's a habit of a lot of people to Google the website they're planning on opening, rather than typing the full URL.

Yeah I guess the ledger website links and check-ledger links might be trying to add some association. And on that note, urls are pulled up search engine search results based on the number of mentions...
3622  Economy / Speculation / Re: Something unexpected needs to happen? on: August 20, 2020, 02:03:33 AM
Yeah I don't think many expect much different. Even if the conditions have changed slightly I still think bitcoin looks like an attractive asset for people to own a fraction of.

We're far from any form of mass adoption and don't have the regulation in many countries yet (and some outright ban it) but I imagine this'll be coming in a few years...
3623  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Strange Issue with https://flyp.me/ on: August 20, 2020, 12:40:23 AM
Please I want to really know why owner of this topic is been tag as a scammer and people are still responding positively to the topic created by him.

If someone's got a problem with a website, why would you need to check trust for something as simple as that?

You can see the problem he had was a misrepresented fee on the website, as long as the website is fairly well known you can still help the person. Some people also give trust for different reason and the user in question doesn't even have a supported trust flag (and negatives that are without a flag could be for minor altercations they've had with other users that just painted them red).

3625  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Problem with open chahnel on: August 19, 2020, 11:42:11 PM
I don't think you can? You might just have to cooperatively close it and reopen another if it's that there's less than ~600 Satoshi in your wallet?

But youll need around 0.003 to open a new channel.

Sent test 0.0001 to one and the second wallet to try out LN.

Later on the site it turned out that the minimum need is 0.002 per wallet. Why do you say 0.003 is the minimum?

Something very expensive turns out to use LN. It's easier for me to wait for the hype to subside and then send 1 Satoshi \ bytes the old-fashioned way from the blockchain.

Why is that? After all, LN is designed to increase the speed and reduce commissions on transfers

A lot of nodes gave a funding rate of either 0.002 or 0.003 for their channels, it made sense to say 0.003 so you know that's the expected minimum. I'd try opening one smaller and then working out the minimum for that individual.

I don't know why they'd make the minimum 0.002 have you tried contacting their support? They might not merge them if you send more.

On chain transactions are charged per the kb and ln transactions are charged as a percentage. Fees should be lower than 3% for most routes and in some wallets you can enable protection against high fee routes (not sure about electrum).

The pandemic won't be contained to a few months. It'll be going until at least January with more waves. I noticed the huge spike in German cases too and I think new Zealand got a few more.

Some countries are more prepared for the pandemic now though too - the power of lockdown in the UK has been devolved to the city mayors - or at least on their advice.
3628  Economy / Services / Re: I want to create a version of milliondollarhomepage for BTC on: August 19, 2020, 12:00:52 AM
At current at 1 million pixels at 0.001 BTC ($10 each) it'll be $10M?

I'd go with each pixel being 0.00001BTC and allow the increase in btcs price to produce the scarcity. Any rule of doubles seems shady these days due to ponzis.
3629  Economy / Services / Re: I want to create a version of milliondollarhomepage for BTC on: August 18, 2020, 11:49:57 PM
I don't know what sort of ideas you have but you'll need something solid to even get some ad space being bought.

I'm also not sure who'd be interested or who you're marketing to - some companies and individuals might like it though, any idea of the amount of btc you'd sell a slot for? You'd have to make it cheap as it isn't a unique idea.
3630  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Reminder]: Read the ToS of a exchange website first before registering on: August 18, 2020, 11:10:41 PM
This is just generally scammy behaviour from anything.

1. Sites list their important terms and conditions if they're ligiyimstr as they're expecting people to at most skim their terms and conditions - I certainly don't annotate them.

Also if its illegal in their country, you should have some form of verification as they log in - geolocate an ip address for example.
3631  Other / Meta / Re: What is the default/normal size of writing box? Details in the description. on: August 18, 2020, 12:03:02 PM
Surely you've changed the style using a script anyway? Can you not just remove the script?

Either that or check the vss/html when you load up the post screen and see what the default css is at before it's overridden.
3632  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin could be a scam ? on: August 18, 2020, 10:31:39 AM
Satoshi has about 5% of the total supply of bitcoin so he could dump that. But after that he'd have no control and the price of bitcoin would probably be low if he moved his funds and then it would recover l.
3633  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: CryptoStar - Mining-Company (undervalued) on: August 18, 2020, 09:53:59 AM
What stops the owners from just running with their $450k or making something up about where it went...
Well, they're listed on the TSVX exchange for one thing (though I don't know much about them except that they're Canadian), so if they pulled a typical crypto scam they'd be in some serious shit.  Scammers generally don't go through all the steps necessary to incorporate themselves and issue stock....but you never know.

The stock price is $0.06, so it's a penny stock and hence is extremely risky even if the business has any merit to begin with.  Penny stocks are subject to manipulation, and I stay way far away from them when I'm buying stock.  And OP, just because a stock has a very low valuation doesn't make it undervalued.

Depends, they could just be a more sophisticated scam and have put effort into their attempt.
And I didn't know thst about penny stocks, I normally go off marget cap when looking at their value... Tbh you can start investing in stuff once its value has increased - if it does.
3634  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network FAQ on: August 18, 2020, 07:15:50 AM
I believe the problem with using altcoins is they're not as secure, not as robust, and not as valuable as Bitcoin. They can use it as a MOE, but most of the time, convert back to Bitcoin for safe-keeping. How much would the costs of conversion be?

Yeah there's a limit to security with a lot of altcoins for sure and the only two I've looked into that have similar security or theoretically better were litecoin (and decred if the PoS part works).

Hey, nice to see this, but can any one elaborate the on chain bitcoin?? am a newbie didnt know about them.

thanks..

There's going to be a short answer and a long answer herevand I'll go with the shorter.
So when you receive a transaction the sender signs a receiving transaction identifier of their own in order to spend the funds to you. They then broadcast this transaction to the network so miners can take a look at it and confirm it.

When you want to spend your bitcoin you do the same steps again and sign your input transaction identifier.
3635  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Should you use convert, or trade when swapping coins. on: August 17, 2020, 10:30:38 PM
Why are you guys supporting the wrong answer and not commenting on mine?

I just converted a small amount of funds from xrp to btc and paid no fees in the standard coinbase app (without pro)?

3636  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Needed: Updated clone instructions on: August 17, 2020, 01:07:15 AM
Who's chain are you trying to clone? Bitcoin, ethereum, dash...

You'll have to work out the application and functionalities before you can work out what you need to build. Also I don't think the fundamentals of full nodes have changed much - just synchronisation, network and transaction size.
3637  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum wallet on: August 16, 2020, 11:33:39 PM
What version of wallet are you using?
EVERY CONTACT PHONE NUMBER FOR ELECTRUM SUPPORT WILL BE A Scam- I'm guessing you found them on a search engine. They're not in the US either I thought the main devs a were in Germany and Russia.

Can you see a transaction leaving your wallet also in the history tab? And when did you receive these funds?
3638  Economy / Economics / Re: Warren Buffet bought “Gold” for the first time. When Bitcoin? on: August 16, 2020, 09:22:10 PM
The Bitcoin-equivalent of investing in gold mining would be investing in Bitcoin mining. I don't expect that to happen though, it's totally different. A gold mine and the company that owns it can expect long-term productivity, whereas a Bitcoin miner sees his hardware quickly become obsolete.

I think a lot of crypto mining firms are holidng onto a lot of their funds as well in hope that the price increases... You can generally get away without reading an electric metre for a copule of months-years here - I doubt it's much different anywhere else and it'd proabably make it more lucrative for them as they scale up to just wait on it.

... secondly he stated that he doesn't understand Bitcoin and is not willing to invest in something that he doesn't fully understand. Which I can only respect since honestly it is a kind of level headedness that is often missing in crypto.

Yeah most people get stuck learning about crypto so he probably thought he might've got stuck there too. I think there's an extremely high learning curve if you're not accustomed to science/computing before moving into crypto.
3639  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Should you use convert, or trade when swapping coins. on: August 16, 2020, 09:11:25 PM
Coinbase Pro is always better on converting or exchanging your coins to other coins with less fee compared to the normal Coinbase.

Are you sure it's not just fiat to crypto coinbase charges fees for?

When I use convert, I'm not charged a fee (this is different from the buy and sell options) so actually convert is cheaper (for buying at market).
3640  Economy / Economics / Re: Warren Buffet bought “Gold” for the first time. When Bitcoin? on: August 16, 2020, 02:46:35 PM
Gold mining is a bit of a secure investment imo...

And you're not just investing in the gold, you're investing in the infrastructure which can be sold on if necessary or leased. Even if the price of gold falls, margins are still probably the same.

He probably won't be alive at a point where he'd choose to invest in bitcoin mining, and he probably already holds bitcoin(?) What stopped him holding $1 million worth and just keeping it parked? Berkshire aren't going to buy bitcoin anytime soon - in any meaningful amount I doubt bitcoin could absorb it.

This does actually mean though that Warren buffet has turned away from real estate and to gold - does he think new York Real Estate won't be growing for a while? Is he worried of another banking crisis? Most people say house prices should fall between 6 months and a year - perhaps this is his bet on that...
