exactly, it was sold fair and square ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) I could argue about the "fair" part...

you all need to stop posting russian/ukranian language photos and articles (at least photos), this isn't the russian sub-thread or ukranian, you have one of those on the local thread, here we should speak english Articles can be run through Google translate. As for photos, you can always ask for a translation ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif) - Dear friends, I'll rise Ukraine! - Juliya, f***k off!! - MAIDAN, MAIDAN, MAIDAN!!! - Bandera will bring us the parachutes! - Steer to EU! We'll crash there!!! PS: a bit toung-in-cheek: It's never too late to start learning Russian (or Chinese).

Territories presented to Ukraine by the Russian monarchs are, on the other hand, indisputable as monarchs were within their legitimate right to give lands as present

Can people give Alaska a rest? It was sold by a monarch, so it's not comparable to Crimea or south-East Ukraine, and the poll here https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/alaska-back-russia/SFG1ppfN was started mainly as a call to White House to mind their own internal affairs. Neither Soviet Union, nor Russia have had any claims on it after it was sold.

Putin’s goal is twofold: 1) to destabilize Ukraine and 2) to de-legitimize the newly formed Ukrainian government. In eastern Ukraine, Russia is using the Crimean method of creating instability, staging protetests for Russian intervention and using the pretext of protecting ethnic Russians from ultra-Nationalists attack from western Ukraine. However, eastern Ukraine may be different. Ukraine’s troops were employed to quell and repel Russian provocateurs in its eastern borders. Ukraine must remain vigilant and not to employ heavy handed tactics that may add credence to Putin’s claim that ethnic Russians are under attack. It would be wise if Ukraine does request an intervention of UN troops to monitor the situation in eastern Ukraine. More important Ukraine must find and elect a candidate that can create a consensus amongst the ethic Russians in Ukraine; internationally remain neutral in all Russian and European affairs and not seek admission into NATO.
I wonder how you can type all that with a strait face, when 1. Putin (via Lavrov) called multiple times on US/EU to help stabilise the situation in Ukraine by conducting constitutional reform and federalisation of the country, so that bother South-East and West of Ukraine can coexist peacefully and 2. The coup government does not need de-legitimising as it is initially illegitimate - it used the same methods to get to power as the people in South-East are using to gain independence. Oh, and all presidential candidates that were even remotely sympathetic to the South-East and the Russian population there were removed from the election run.

At least, judging by the comments, people for the most part are not buying this. Which is a good first step in the right direction. For every video such as this, there are tens contradicting it.

Looks like this night will be the night of long knives in the South-East. The coup government in Kiev that overthrew legitimate government of Ukraine now raises the punishment for coup actions to 15 years in prison. It also is on a determined path to suppress the South-East with extreme violence. People in Donetsk and other towns are pulling to the centre, preparing for a siege. May of the defenders are Afghan veterans, who are prepared to fight back to the end. In the meantime, in Odessa, Ultra-nationalists are hunting down people wearing Georgy (Victory) bands, and swastika was drawn on the Holocaust memorial. In light of this Kiev government prepared and ratified an amnisty for the currently imprisoned criminals, releasing every 5th inmate (about 25000 people). Wow! Ultra-Right Fariaon. Demands to shoot everyone in the South-East, saying it should have been done in 1600-s! What? Did she ever learn history? In Odessa groups of Nationalists hunt down and beat people wearing Georogiy-bands.

The only way this can end peacefully is for the Ukrainian factions agrees which parts are Ukraine and which Russian. Anything else will surely turn into a blood bath of some scale. The best thing UK/EU and USA can do is monitor and try to prevent atrocities through diplomatic mediation. But the Great Game is on again so anything can happen.
But will UK/WU/USA listen? http://rt.com/news/russia-eu-us-ukraine-113/

that is not true, they don't like each other but as you said they do have some sort of autonomy which makes them happy but why couldn't the same be done in Ukraine?
Russia has proposed federalisation of Ukraine as the only viable option for its survival, but does not get support from the West.

No, of course. At least if they didn't invented a teleportation yet. It seems that the Kiev junta is preparing to suppress a protest with the help of troops. ![Roll Eyes](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/rolleyes.gif) And at least you can see Ukrainian military licence plates. At the very end of the video, camera points back, capturing the name of the city the convoy is moving through: Алчевск ( http://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%90%D0%BB%D1%87%D0%B5%D0%B2%D1%81%D0%BA)

Both tax and vat ?! Bitcoin is not damn alcohol to do that. Good there is other countries out there.
I think that in Singapore also you have to pay the VAT (called GST there). But there it is around 4%, not 30% as in the case with Norway. I beg to differ, it's "only" 25% and 15% for foods ( ">http://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merverdiavgift) ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif)

Yeah , give it 10 years and you Russians will find a way to make our country suffer once more. It's not the regime , it's in your blood. No matter how you find a way to mess up our lives.
Sorry for reviving that sub-topic, but it just hit me that you start sounding like Agrajag from HGttG ( http://hitchhikers.wikia.com/wiki/Agrajag) ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

...people in Russia support Crimea war...
Just to make sure we are on the same wavelength, the only Crimean War was in 1853-1856. People love war. So democracy love war too.
You'd see a lot of people in Russia and America trying to avoid war, urging people to talk.

Russia urges the West to talk, again: http://rt.com/news/russia-eu-us-ukraine-113/I think Lavrov made similar statements at least 4 times before, and they all got ignored. My favourite quote: “I heard the statements by Jay Carney, White House Press Secretary, who said that some demonstrations in southern Ukraine are paid for and there are certain ‘external forces” which stand behind these protests. It sounds as if he is five months ago and describing the events in Maidan Square in the center of Kiev,” Lavrov said. More words of wisdom from Ron Paul: http://rt.com/op-edge/ukraine-needs-economic-freedom-877/Plus, just want to share this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_WBo4sfmi4He does appear to be the last Don Quixote...

And all he did was say that people in the South-East should not be antagonised, and there should be negotiations instead of violent responses. That got him a violent response. Well, he asked for it, reminding Right Sector nationalists that they did exactly the same thing in Kiev as the pro-Russian separatists in South-East are doing now...

You'd be surprised at the amount of social criticism that Soviet film directors tried and managed to sneak by censorship. It was often disguised as comedy as well, and the problems were highlighted in round-about ways. Actually there are very few Soviet films without criticism of the Soviet state of affairs.
A couple of examples: Иван Васильевич меняет профессию - for social criticism (1973) Каин XVIII - for military/nuclear power criticism (1963)
Can recommend Встреча на Эльбе from 1965 as a historical curiosity.
Also, watch some films by Александр Игишев. He was a no compromises man (where honour and truth were concerned - he is one of my role models) with tragic fate. Our families were friends.
