having a lot of issues with setup of my v2.3 board and rpi:
i now have the pi directly connected to a monitor and keyboard, but cannot login. i type username as "pi" and get:
"unable to determine your tty name.
debian GNU/Linux 7 (none) ttyl"
whats going on?

after a massive roundabout circle of VMware permissions, i still cant modify th efiles in the linux partition of the SD card. without a linux computer/poweruser, how the hell am i supposed to fix the default ip address of 10.10.1.249?
with vmware it seems to deny my ownership of the filesystem and any changes i try to save are denied by a gedit error

Download nmap (nmap.org/dist/nmap-6.40-setup.exe) and do a ping scan on 192.168.1.* to see if the RPi is even on the address you are trying to ssh into (192.168.1.249). Either that or check in your router to see exactly what IP it assigned to it. It may not be the static IP you mentioned. Mine auto assigned a different IP to the RPi.
says there is an unknown OS on the ip 192.168.1.249, and my gateway is 192.168.1.1 the RPi seems to refuse SSH connection, rather than simply not being found Did you try to use IE with 192.168.1.249 chrome and IE both fail to connect to it (but fail faster [1-2sec] than if i entered some unused ip that takes 5-10 seconds to fail the ping attempt) Did you check anything used same ip address in you router. ps: happened to me my playbook also used 192.168.1.249 changed the cmdline.txt file to be ip=192.168.1.240 and tried again. same result. Chrome quickly finds the device at that ip address, but returns "Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to 192.168.1.240". SSH attempts are faced with "connection refused" what am i doing wrong? Ive wasted hours of downtime, driven myself insane, and am going to bed knowing that I won't be able to do anything until tomorrow evening at the earliest (24hrs from first plugging in my unit!) Does Punin have a different SD image i can try, maybe buzzdave's upload is no good? Why didnt you change ip in /etc/network/interfaces? where do i find that folder? Im on a windows system so i can only see the FAT partition of my SD card, and have no ability to directly use the rPi as a workstation without a monitor/usb keyboard edit: got a program to read file sin the linux partition, and i see: auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 10.10.11.249 netmask 255.0.0.0 gateway 10.1.1.1 allow-hotplug wlan0 iface wlan0 inet manual wpa-roam /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf iface default inet dhcp however, i cannot edit it, only save it to windows with this program edit2: guess ive gotta go the long way around, get ubuntu on vmware and try fixing it that way...

Going to re-ask my question here, as I am unsuccessful in the US thread: I received my starter kit today from MBP with the v2.3 M-board, and wired everything up correctly. The unit did NOT come with an SD card, and I had to download this image and load it to an 8GB microSD with adapter: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zjk90fjra5bwhnd/rPi_V2.img1) put it in, powered up, and tried to connect to the default ip via chrome, IE, and PUTTY SSH. no luck 2) powered down, and added to the cmdline.txt file: ip=192.168.1.249 (supposedly the default) 2a) re-tried step 1. chrome and IE quickly return "could not connect" errors, and SSH results in "connection refused" 3) repeat step 2 with 192.168.1.240 in case of IP conflicts. result is same as step 2a I have no monitor/keyboard at my disposal, so i cant just set up a workstation at my unit. can someone confirm if the image i used is the issue, or point me in a direction of a different image for a v2.3 m-board? This is racking my brain, keeping me up. I wont be able to try any tweaked methods until tomorrow after work, which means I just missed out on 24hrs of mining because a $5 SD card was not included with my unit.

I assume this means that besides denying the SSH, it is also NOT hashing has anyone else downloaded and used the rPi_v2.img file successfully?

okay im stuck already. having to load my own sd card is a massive PITA.
i cant ssh to the default ip. says connection refused when using putty. can someone help list the steps to get me off hte ground, because neither the EU or US manuals seem to address this
do you have a monitor you can hook up to it to make sure the IP you are using and gateway are correct? hook up a keyboard also, and when it loads type ifconfig to check the IP and gateway This ^^^ I had to reset the IP address of the Rpi as it was also 10.10.etc. Once I set a static IP then I could SSH in with putty and did not require a monitor. Also, it may take 1-2 'sudo reboot' for it to stick. no hdmi monitor and no usb keyboard on hand guys also, is it normal for the several GB .img file to make the SD card suddenly appear 33/55MB full? is that an effect of the imaging or an error? You need 2GB or more spaces on SD card. I have 8gb with the basic image, SSH to 192.168.1.249 simply times out. by adding the ip=192.168.1.249 command to the cmdline.txt file (i put it as the second-last modifier), i get "connection refused". What am i doing wrong here? I can't beleive I am wasting so much time to find/format/install my own Sd card (actually an 8gb microsd with an adapter)

I received my starter kit today that was ordered July 8th. The shipment left Washington yesterday at 5:57 pm and arrived today at 1:53 pm. The address was incorrectly labelled on the package but I lucked out on a great driver who called dispatch to contact me and sort it out. I sent him on his way with an assortment of Gatorade and chocolate as thanks.
For Canadians looking for details on import duty: Megabigpower listed the value of the starter kit as 750 USD in the category of Motherboard. This category qualifies for Canadian taxes at a 100% rate. FedEx used an unfriendly conversion to place the value of the hardware at 771.93 CDN which taxed at 13% HST for a 100.34 charge. Of course FedEx also added in their own 11.30 ROD fee. The canadian dollar amount I paid for the starter kit was 1411.51 based on my CC assigned exchange rate at the time of purchase. With taxes the total paid stands at 1523.15 CDN.
In the box was the 2.0 version of the M-Board and one H-Card. After firing up the miner it took me a good 20 minutes to sort out some networking issues. I'm hashing at about 24 Gh/s without tuning and what looks to be one dead/marginal chip. Took a bit longer than expected but megabigpower has followed through on their promise and for that I must convey my thanks and respect.
Same thing here; 1 H-card and about $113.60 in total duties/fees. I did not receive an SD card though, which makes the setup a lot less intuitive, as is the lack of included instructions of any kind (just a receipt from the megabigpower account page). Ill report on setup as soon as i wipe and reformat a camera card.....bit of an unexpected drawback Are you order #134? My SD card is labelled as such but thats not my order number nope, #13X but not 134. The Rpi box (which was cracked and taped shut, no reason why that would create concern though) obviously has a spot for the card, but no card. trust me, i checked the entire box, 1 foam peanut at a time. 2hrs downtime while i download the image. heres my setup questions. I have the hardware all correctly oriented and ready to power up (minus the SD card): 1) do i need just the image, or the chainminer code, or both? 2) once plugged, do i follow the US setup or the EU setup method? 3) the solder contacts along the bottom of the m-board: are they hazardous to the surface the unit is on, and is there risk of them shorting on a wooden surface?

self-moderated topics like this are a red flag too
If a question has already been answered, then it is deleted if someone repeats it. I'm just trying to keep the thread clean. This is the only company that does this. Why? Not even retard Inaba won't create any self moderated topics... I do not work for VMC. But you seem to be their spokesperson and to know stuff that we don't know. +1 dont moderate your own VMC fanboy thread if: a) you are not with VMC b) you have any respect for forming a discussion

Guys I received my Aug full kit a few days ago and have been troubleshooting it ever since. It was DOA out of the box due to networking issues (the Gateway IP was set to something like 10.10.2.1). After that was corrected it wouldn't respond on the web server port for some reason. I bought a new router and set it up on it's own isolated network and hooked the raspberry pi directly up to a keyboard and monitor to get that resolved.
The unit has been hashing for two days now but having stability issues. On power up everything starts out at full speed but then it loses hash rate over time. I have optimized the cards by putting the highest rate cards in the first few slots and the worst performing cards at the end. One card stopped hashing completely and was removed.
I have tried two different pools and tried adjusting the difficulty at the pool. It's currently on BTCguild with a difficulty setting of 512. The unit is directly in front of an air conditioner with good air flow across all cards. It's powered by a 760W platinum power supply. None of my other ASIC rigs have this kind of fluctuation in hash rate.
To date this 400Ghash unit has mined less than one bitcoin. Please let me know the next step for troubleshooting.
I'm under the impression that a dificulty of 256 might be more in line with a 400Ghash unit. How were you cooling it, and any mods (pencil mod included)?

title says it all. I have a few excess block erupters for sale either in-person or shipped in Ontario. this is a great way to get a good price for a local unit and/or reduce the high shipping costs associated with most international sellers. $30 each or 0.22 BTC. Tracked shipping within ontario is 0.09 BTC, Canada-wide is 0.12 BTC I'm located at Queen & Lansdowne if you are interested in personally picking them up, but i would prefer you be buying at least 2-3 units to make the required time worthwhile PM me for details Units are Rev 3.00 Silver and are tested to work at spec (335Mh/s +/- 1% with <2% errors). I can even sell you a cheap 7-port hub with a 0.5A adapter if you need some extra ports for your system

a basic controller that can determine voltage from your panel and the current battery capacity should suffice. Once one or both those reading pass a certain limit (use a relay for this), the relay will switch the main line ON for your devices.
turning off is different though, as it may be difficult to 'slow' or 'stagger' the OFF mode. If using a relay, once the lower threshold is hit the circuit will turn off.
relays typically have a range for activation though. for example:
I have a 12v / 120v relay. when it has >10V it turns on the 120v line until the sense voltage falls below 8V. maybe something similar from your panel?
