never put a password in the system

So you didnt actually safe the seed because it was part of the wallet file that you set no password for?
3663  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Usable pruned wallet release date? on: January 04, 2016, 09:19:50 PM
No you need to download all data first so you dont have to trust other nodes that their data is correct. Once you build your database you dont store the blocks though.
So let me get this straight, you download all data and verify it after which you can choose to store X amount of GB and relay only that data to other nodes?

Almost, you relay nothing though. Well nothing but transactions and new blocks, new as in the very latest.

Initially I thought it was going to work differently, but this does make more sense if it is the case. I haven't done enough reading recently and I'm sure that many understood the concept differently.

I also hoped that I would be able to share the 40GB I have stored, but I cant. This would allow pruned nodes to still be used for syncing. Several pruned nodes could together still have the entire blocks, each node a part. Im not sure if something like this is planed for the future.

Besides the initial seed there is no randomness

ahh, thats the point.

you can explain things like that very well.

and now i try to understand things on github.

btw and offtopic: the atmosphere is really friendly outside the ALS-subs.

Thanks, maybe try the links by cr1776 first. I just skimmed them, but it seems they are easier to understand than the full BIP.
3665  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Usable pruned wallet release date? on: January 04, 2016, 08:54:44 PM
Well if a high number of nodes would be pruned it would be very difficult to sync a new node (pruned or not). If you consider that you only establish 8 connections and while syncing the nodes dont seem to create more connections, you will need at least 1 not pruned node out of 8 to sync.
Why is that? If you are trying to run a pruned node yourself, wouldn't it be the same as the normal syncing process that we have today? Aren't you just trying to download the latest data which other pruned nodes have?

No you need to download all data first so you dont have to trust other nodes that their data is correct. Once you build your database you dont store the blocks though.

Does anyone have an eta on when usable pruned core wallets will be available to use? send and recieve.

Anybody willing to explain what the hell a pruned wallet is?

A pruned node is a full node that does not store all blocks. E.g. my full node[1]'s disk is no longer large enough to hold the full blockchain, so I only store 40 GB. It still relays newly found blocks and all valid transactions, but you can no longer sync old data from it. Not even the 40 GB I stored. Since its a server anyway and I wouldnt run a wallet on it so I dont care much, but Im in contact with some ISPs for a new server with a larger disk.

Why would anybody want one vs a standard core wallet?

Thanks in advance!

Small disk, still want to verify all data.

@Shorena, can you please tell me the range of donation that you take in this service? I will be happy to send you in between that range. Smiley

I usually label something as donation if I would charge less than 0.0001 (10k satoshi), you are free to donate more or less, just dont create a dust output (currently 2730 satoshi).
3667  Other / MultiBit / Re: multibit HD, wallet words and addresses on: January 04, 2016, 08:46:32 PM
ok very fine. so i only need the wallet words and i can lose or destroy all my hardware.

Well you will need some hardware to run MBHD on to use the wallet words, but yes.

but how is this possible?
at the beginning the wallet words are created and everything is connected to these. how are future addresses linked to these words?
i really can't imagine how this is possible.

can you explain this to me too?

The wallet words or the seed is the source of all private keys, because from it you create the 1st private key and from the 1st private key you create the 2nd private key and so on. Each key in this chain has a child that is also a private key and can also have a child. Besides the initial seed there is no randomness involved, thus the private keys you derive from the seed are identical every time you do it.

For every private key there is a public key that is used to create the address.

Its actually a bit more complicated[1] than that, its my best shot at a high level answer that assumes no prior knowledge.

You can set the size, but the minimum is ~1 GB IIRC. The main implication I see is that if you need to rescan the blockchain for some reason you have to redownload it, verify it, drop it. If you have a full copy you can do this locally. A pruned node is not less secure because it verified all data locally, it just does not keep the data. Its also not as helpfull to the network as an unpruned node as you do not relay old blocks and thus cant help others sync up.
Correct. Basically the most likely effect that this is going to have in an total increase in the number of nodes. However, it might be a bit problematic if a lot of full nodes switch to pruned ones. I do also wonder if there would be anything bad (in comparison to the current state of the network) if almost everyone was running pruned nodes?

Ok that would be awesome if it did.
It is highly likely. The only unknown factor ATM is the exact date of release, but the feature should come.

Well if a high number of nodes would be pruned it would be very difficult to sync a new node (pruned or not). If you consider that you only establish 8 connections and while syncing the nodes dont seem to create more connections, you will need at least 1 not pruned node out of 8 to sync.
3669  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Usable pruned wallet release date? on: January 04, 2016, 08:27:03 PM
I still haven't understood the implications of running a pruned walled vs a full blockchain wallet. What are exactly the tradeoffs? Because im sure Bitcoin is not as secure if you run it in pruned mode. From my understanding, the pruned size will be of around 1 GB of blockchain, which is great, but I want to know if it's worth it or not safety wise.

Hi

please help me understand this.

1. during the installation of multibit HD i wrote down the so called "wallet words".
2. with this wallet word i can restore my wallet.
Q1: if i forget the password of the wallet i can restore it with the wallet words?

Yes.

3. to every BTC-Address there is a pair of keys.
Q2: is this correct?

Yes, there is a public key and a private key for every address.

4. i have a wallet and within this wallet i can have any number of addresses.
Q3: correct?

Correct, a very high number of address (>10k) might slow things down though

Q4: all these addresses are restorable with the wallet words?

Yes.

Q5: which part/files do i have to backup exactly?

There are several types of backups, see here -> https://multibit.org/en/help/hd0.1/backups.html

and the last question.
Q6: if know the wallet words. i make a backup today. tomorrow i generate a new address to receive a payment. then my pc gets lost. can i claim the BTC a received with the address generated after the i made the backup?

Yes. The wallet words cover all possible future addresses derived from them. If you have a working backup you also have the wallet words (in an encrypted version)

thanks a lot.

Qt is just the part of the software that shows the things on screen. The version of qt is not as important as the version of bitcoin core/qt you are running. I suspect your version is old based on the message. Probably pre 0.9.x.

Old versions create transaction in a slighly different way than the latest versions, this helped reduce the impact of a spam attack on the network. In order to avoid this problem you should update your client. The latest version can be found here -> https://bitcoin.org/en/download

I saved seed word to disk.

How?

but cannot resort from disk. have I loss my money or is there a way to get password reset.

How much do you remember about the password? It might be possible to brute force it.
3674  Other / Meta / Re: New sig campaign to end sig campaigns on: January 04, 2016, 03:09:15 PM
If the OP does not like signature campaign, he can go to bitcoin.com. There is no signature campaign there. Signature campaign gives some people incentive to post.

He is not complaining about the ads, the forum itself has an option to turn off the sig ads.

Not the signature ads, no just the regular adds directly below the first post of thread/page.

He is complaining that signature campaigns are attracting spam which is true but it's not that big of a deal, most spam is on the gambling section which can't really have many constructive posts anyways. If OP is so concerned about it, why doesn't he just ignore all sig campaign participants that he consider that are spamming?

Rebuilder actually suggested a solution different from ignoreing users, by creating self moderated threads and removing spam/low quality posts. This would keep those users away and create a different form of moderation (by the OP of each thread instead of the staff). If a spammer is banned the posts usually stay I also suspect that rebuilder's definition is more strict than that of the forum in general.
3675  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Transaction from blockchain.info on: January 04, 2016, 03:05:14 PM
i use the online wallet on blockchain.info and the transaction is on my bitcoin-qt wallet. so the bitcoin come from blockchain.info online wallet.

In that case, waiting is the best thing you can do. AFAIK they will consider the transaction as canceled after 3 days and allow you to create a new TX with a higher fee.

So i'm asking if someone hacked my account and changed the pass + email.... can i get it back ?
Thank you.
Yes. Post your permanent bitcoin address here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=996318.0 and if you loose your account , use the address you posted to sign a message to prove your identity and send it to "theymos" and you will get back your account.
Read the sticky https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=497545.0

Thank you very much, Im just going to hack a member's account because he gave me negative trust with no prove So i dont want him to restor it.

But I got an idea, Thank you for your fast help brother.

Did I just read this correctly? Is this a threat towards EcuaMobi?

Yes it is Since there is no justic here im gonna make him pay.
What are you going to do shorena  ?

Be scared? Buy popcorn? I dont know yet

track my ip address or what ? explaine  . if so i can give you all my info or you can see all logs in your panel i dont use any VPN or RDP or socks or TFG nothing all my info are 98% real.

But since there is no justic here i can take all the risk of whatever . Noone has the right to give a negative trust for no reason .

No, everyone here has the right to leave any rating they want, as long as they dont spam. No reason required.

Im very angry.

I usually recommend drinking tea, having a smoke, a long walk, maybe a pilates class, a deep breath, but you probably know yourself better than I do. If you think committing a crime will help you with your anger, I think you are mistaken.
