3661  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [300 PH][BTC PPS 100%][EN/CN/RU] Sigmapool.com on: August 03, 2020, 04:20:41 PM
It's worth saying that the pool now charges 2.5% fees, and they moved from PPS to FPPS, but they didn't bother updating this in the forum, apparently just like most other pools they use the forum to get a kick-start and once they start making money they stop caring about the forum.

Which means they now operate in a less-risk environment and even by strictly following Meni's numbers they now require a lot less coins.

(6.25 *ln 1000) / (2*0.025) = 863 BTC to have a 0.1% chance going bankrupt, Meni's study is pretty accurate but very conservative, so as far as your debate with Kano I can't take sides because your approach is more of a real-life scnerio where it's very unlikely for a pool to not hit a block for 600 days while Kano's approach strictly counts on the reserve formula, now if I was to ever run a PPS pool I would certainly go by the book and apply Meni's math (which means I will never be able to run such a pool), but seeing pools like Sigma which most likely didn't have over 4000 coins when they started, it's a proof that the standards can be lowered, but as a miner I rather mine to a PPS pool which I know have a ton of reserves to reduce my risk.

A year and a half later, the pool has not gone bankrupt and they now have close to 700PH, I wonder what went wrong with Kano's math.  Cheesy

In plain English implies that the contorl board isn't sensing/seeing any asics on all 3 hash boards, now if it was only on a single chain I would say it's a taosted chain, but what are the chances of 3 hash boards going down at the same time? I would say slim to nothing which leads me to think that this has to be a POWER related issue.

- Your feeding the PSU with a higher/lower AC voltage that it can handle, so you need to tell us what is the voltage

or

- Your PSU has gone bad and needs replacement, but before you do that, give it a good dusting and set the miner on "low" settings, the results that come out of this troubleshooting will probably lead us to know what the problem actually is.
3664  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Laurentia Pool - Unknown risk for miners on: August 03, 2020, 02:49:36 AM
Your entire diatribe says you DO.

That is your own conclusion which as usual is based on ZERO facts, you are just mad because I pointed out to the fact that IF these custom firmware were not finding blocks, most if not ALL pools would ban them, but nobody except you does that, simply because you think you know better than every other pool operator/owner.

A pool like F2pool which has over 17E worth of power pays about 125BTC every single day, that is about 1.3 million dollars, if they weren't finding that many blocks they would have gone bankrupt LONG time ago, these pools take a huge risk by paying "upfront" out of their own pocket, and the fact they survived all these years suggests that:

1- They are NOT losing blocks due to bad resources/connecivity
2- The hashrate they pay for actually FINDS blocks as "expected".

Assuming even a tiny percentage of hashrate say 5% was coming from mining gears that don't find blocks, then these pools would have lost MILLIONS of dollars and that would have triggered the alarm and they would have done exactly what you did.

The above is a fact, unless you think all other pools except yours are running a charity, it's pretty clear that your assumptions of your pool being the best pool is as accurate as all of these custom firmware aren't finding blocks.
3665  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Release S17E custom firmware on: August 03, 2020, 01:41:19 AM
Anywhere between 50$ and 100$ is reasonable imo. If I was a developer, I'd give firmware for less than 40$ only if buyer has multiple machines (5+/10+) but that is if we are talking licence based firmware. As I am not sure how OP will sell this firmware, I cannot really give a good price; will it be fee based; will it be unlimited where you can sell/share it or will it be per miner/per farm?

Agreed, this price range looks reasonable at least to the buyer side, we don't know how much work thierry4wd has put into this but we know there aren't many people who own these S17e/T17e gears, so chances are he isn't going to sell many copies, but it's a good start since he has been working on these firmware for years now and hasn't made a penny, this is a good chance for him to be evaluated and get enough reviews so that people will trust his work in the future.
3666  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Laurentia Pool - Unknown risk for miners on: August 02, 2020, 11:39:20 PM
[...]

I know your intentions are good and that you are trying to help the community, however pointing 115th to a solo block needs 20 years of 100% luck to hit a block, also what you are trying to fix is not broken, Kano bans aftermarket firmware because according to him "They violate cgminer license", it's only Bifa who is worried about the "blockless" issue and given that he mines to a small pool his concern is 100% valid.

Vnish has a proof of finding blocks, but Kano still doesn't allow it on his pool, if you somehow managed to hit a block and prove that theirry4wd's version finds blocks, Kano will still ask theirry4wd for the source code, theirry4wd will say he doesn't have it because bitmain didn't release it, it's a dead end until bitmain provide the source code, which probably isn't going to happen, so you are going to be burning over $300 a month for almost nothing.

... I just don't understand that if it sooooo obvious that people are finding blocks using it, then surely the pools and the users finding these blocks with it should be shouting from the friggin rooftops...

Why would they want to do that? probably 99% of all miners with custom firmware mine on PPS pools or at least fairly large PPLNS pools where they don't seem to bother to check anything aside from their daily payment, also probably nobody except a few members around the forum take the "block finding ability" seriously, and the vast majority of miners don't even understand what does it mean to find a block, all they understand is that you point your gear to a mining pool and get paid accordingly, I don't understand on what bases do people expect that the average miner cares about finding a block when their mining gear is pointed to a PPS pool.!

... the Braiins web site should have a page with proof of every block found using Braiins, hell they even have a massive pool associated with their firmware that can EASILY help them prove it.

I agree 100%, it should be pretty easy for slushpool to prove that, they have a ton of money and they could probably afford to even PAY enough miners to test their firmware and prove that their firmware does find blocks.

The question is why would they want to do that? who is asking them for it? a random person on the forum like myself, you or phill? if you send a support ticket requesting that it will probably be automatically deleted, if someone who owns a 1EH farm request it, they will probably prove it to them (assuming their firmware does find blocks).

Keep in mind that even Vnish's proof of finding blocks came from regular users, Vnish probably doesn't care if  anyone believes that his firmware finds a block, he knows that most people want to overclock/underclock their gears, mine to a large pool, get paid and that's pretty much it, as terrible as it sounds this is the sad ugy truth.

I don't know how anyone who cares about mining and bitcoin can advocate using something as CRITICAL to the entire ethos and infrastructure of the system without knowing 100% that it actually does the job its supposed to.

Miners are incentivized by profit, most miners would do anything to make the most money, if they get their hands on something that would help them "cheat" the system to make more profit even if that was to bring bitcoin security and decentralization down, they would still use it, proof is Bitmain didn't blink an eye before using the patented covert Asicboost.

Long story short, the pools that accept miners with custom firmware carry the most risk, it's pretty much their JOB to ensure that every share they pay for is capable of finding a block and given that almost no mining pool that pays PPS (the pools that are most effected by not finding blocks) havn't banned those people - suggests that everything seems to be working just fine.

With that being said, I DON'T advocate using a firmware that doesn't find blocks.
3667  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Laurentia Pool - Unknown risk for miners on: August 02, 2020, 07:34:11 PM
benefits to ck ⅓ of a block possible.
benefits to kano ⅓ of a block possible
benefits to me ⅓ of a block possible oh  I look like someone trying to help everybody
benefits to thierry4wd proof his firmware works and can hit blocks

thierry4wd (according to him) simply "hacks" or modifies the original firmware, not sure if a pool can differentiate between his firmware and the original one, and if that is the case, I see no benefits coming out of this test, also the only pool that blocks custom firmware is Kano.is which is a drop in the ocean as far as mining pools are concerned.

I am also not buying this whole idea of known custom firmware not finding blocks, simply put all these large PPS pools count on the ability of the miners to find blocks, taking all the risk ALONE, i am pretty sure if a pool went on for long enough without hitting a block or their luck was far from 100% they would have suspected that some miners use a firmware that doesn't find a block and they have MORE interest to ban those than Kano since the latter doesn't pay miners out of his own pocket, so it's safe to assume that all the known and widely used firmware DO find blocks, we have seen proof that Vnish (probably the most used custom firmware) found blocks on the mainnet, I also remember hearing about Braiins.

Also there is no problem here so not sure what are you trying to fix, the only thing that needs fixing here is that person's behavior towards everybody else who doesn't agree to everything he says, fixing such a problem is 1- impossible 2- Adds no value to the mining community, so why would you risk over a 100 terahash worth of hash power only be treated like shit by him? but again, your miners - your call.
3668  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Some very 'bad' news on s19 shipments. on: August 02, 2020, 05:37:28 AM
Will bitmain go bankrupt? I wish so, they have already abused their clients, the mining community and Bitcoin in general, I feel bad for those who have thier money stuck with bitmain and have yet to receive thier mining gears/parts because the two founders of this company can't get thier shit together, but I won't be sad to see them leave the game or slow down for months to come so that their rivals such as Canaan and MicroBt will have a better chance in improving also for other new players to potentially join the market.

It's also worth saying that even if they restock some gears on thier website, people should still be careful as we can't tell who really owns the website now, it does seem like it's under Jihan's control while Zhan still control the warehouses, but we won't know where would the money go to and wether or not you will ever receive a mining gear or your money back with all the mess going on, so please be careful.
3669  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Miner Full Control Unlock All Settings on: August 02, 2020, 04:42:41 AM
which is around 50 to 55 watts.

my point is amps and volts on a meter can be off by 10%

in fact a meter can be adjusted or calibrated so the only thing in question is if the meter is accurate.

That's a good point phill, not sure if they be adjusted but sure they can be off by a good percentage, something like "Kill A Watt" would be much more accurate, with that being said as long as the meter hasn't been tempered with in a way that it would show lower values than the real once and accounting for up to 20% in accuracy to the downside, he is still just about the 60w/th mark which is indeed a lot more effienct than the best reported number so far which is 70w/th.

I will be willing to test the mod as well, let's see what OP has to say.
3670  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Miner Full Control Unlock All Settings on: August 02, 2020, 12:58:57 AM
Not sure why hasn't anybody responded to this video, I watched it and based on the video you got the following:

2 S9 hashboards doing 6.2th and consuming 1.5 amps, in the video you did measure the voltage from the same socket that the S9 uses which was 209-210v so that is pretty much 1.5a*210v = 315w for 6.2th or 50w / th, and there doesn't seem to be a way for you to cheat the video content, so these results are impressive to say the least.

Please post more updates and wether the miner was able to run stable for hours/days with these configurations, would also love to hear thierry4wd's take on this.

3672  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: AVALON 841 Farm Help on: August 01, 2020, 11:06:32 PM
would you rather just deal with 20 841 clusters, each cluster being 20 miners with a single IP address and mining info input?

There is a downside to this way of operation, having 400 individual IPs and most importantly workers gives you the ability to keep track of everything from the pool-side, when I look at the pool status using the app on my phone or a "watch link" even from untrusted device, I can tell if there is a problem with any given miner, so i can call my guy and ask him to reboot miner xxx.

Having 20 miners with the same worker will require a local access in order to troubleshoot the bad unit, also as far as setting up a ton of miners it's no longer an issue with so many programs that will handle that for you in no time, so this isn't really an advantage but rather a disadvantage ( a minor one to be reasonable), however, less network cabling / switches is the only advantage in having clusters of 20 miners.

With that being said and without owning any of these avalon gears, based on your words and the other trusted members, I can tell that they are way more robust than the equivalent of bitmain's S9, the only advantage that S9s have over these gears is the ability to downclock them down to 70w/th, not sure of these Avalon gears can do 70w/th but since he has free power his main focus should be on durability and lifespan which without a doubt favours Avalon 841.
3673  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: t17+ 55 th/s problem on: August 01, 2020, 10:37:52 PM
Yes, thats it, PSU was on the top, i see lot of images in the net that way, the best way is leaving PSU bottom, sad no know this before.

Most people on the internet are clueless, some random person on youtube position their miner in that way and people think it's the best way to do it, you should always refer back to this forum for more information.

Weird part is that i remove a heatsink and i dont see any glue like the S9 serie, i see is soldering, why? i think glue is better and have more resistance.

Are you sure? why would they solder an aluminum on a plastic-like surface? will that even work? maybe they used a tiny amount of black glue which was all stuck on the chip itself and thus it's hard to see, did you confirm that the chip's surface is soft and has no trace of any glue at all?
3674  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Release S17E custom firmware on: August 01, 2020, 10:10:21 PM
Big oooof, 500$ might be a over the top, maybe it's good if you want to sell it to resellers, but it's bad for small miners like me or someone who has only a few of S17e (which can be bought for roughly 900$ nowadays so you get my point).

If it were my firmware I would probably price it at 3% of 1 year of mining, this is based on the fact that 3% is about the average fees for custom firmware, and that 1 years is the average lifetime for these lousy gears.

As of today the S17e makes about $6.48 a day, or $195 a month so that's 0.016 BTC / month so that will be 0.192BTC a year and 3% of that is 0.00576BTC or $68, can be rounded to 70$ per miner.

The price is good for the buyer if their gear manges to stay alive and protifble after 12 months, bad if it fails to reach the 12 months point, it's good for the buyer if the price of bitcoin goes up and vice versa, so it's a sort of a risk to both the buyer/seller but I believe it's reasonable on average.

I could probably come up with some good arguments on why it should be cheaper and at the same time there are plenty of arguments on why it should be more expensive, but overall I believe this is a fair price.
3675  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S15 doesn't power on on: August 01, 2020, 09:57:13 PM
I bought a 2560 off mouser for $8 shipped. I'll post an update when I get it installed if that fixes it or not.

And I don't take it as a mislabeled website or anything with Zeus BTC either because I talked to him and I was told several times that the 2560 they sell is 1000v and they do not sell any 2510 chips.

$8 is pretty reasonable compared to $40 at least, as far as the the support guy/girl institing that the 2560 bridge rectifier is able to handle 1000v it is pretty much b.s, I think whoever you were talking to doesn't understand much and they were simply counting on the label on the website, the owner of the website "kevin" surely knows well enough about electronics, he makes most of the youtube videos regarding "fixing miners" and I believe he is the head of the team that makes the "fixture tools" for all the antminer models, so I will make sure to deliver a message/complaint to him to re-label the product and educate his support team.

Anyway, keep us updated.

3677  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: t17+ 55 th/s problem on: August 01, 2020, 12:31:18 AM
You can literally turn the miner upside down so that the chips are on top, there is nothing that could restrict you from doing so, simply place the PSU at the bottom like so:

Sorry about the quality of the image, but I guess you should clearly see that in this position all the chips are facing up and without you flipping the miner to another position the large heatsinks can never touch the smaller once.

What you did was placing the miner with the PSU facing up, so either the 3rd or middle board (most likely middle) had a headsink which fell on the 1st board' small heatsinks.
3678  Local / العربية (Arabic) / Re: معاملات وخدمات برسوم صفرية؟؟!! on: July 31, 2020, 11:36:59 PM

Sorry for your loss, fortunately it didn't catch fire or something, did one of the heatsinks from the top board fall on the lower board and caused short circuit? I don't seem to understand what happened exactly looking at the images alone, my initial guess is that the vertical positioning of the miner wouldn't prevent such issues, assuming a heatsink from board A caused board B/C to short, in fact, that "horizontal position" is safer in such cases because even if the heatsink is losen, it will stay where it is assuming the chips are facing upward because the smaller heatsinks on the other side of the hashbaord don't tend to fall.

Anyway I would love to know what happened exactly.

Sadly I can't vouch for the accuracy of the information on thier website regarding this product, it is simply something beyond my ablitity, for what we know it could be mislabeled, but I know that if they tell you it will work on APW8, it will most likely will, but $40 is way too much IMO, i mean there is no guarntee that this will be the only problem and that the PSU will work again, so investing $40 in that is something I wouldn't do, how much does the 600v on mouser go for? also why don't you get the 1000v?
