It was a sick race. Imho the driver of the day, by far, was Russell and not Hamilton.

Ferrari did it again. In a bad way. Engine 2022v2 looks less reliable than 2022v1. What a pity, they've just made this season of F1 less interesting. I hope that they'll fix their issues, pronto!
Max was incredibly lucky to get the win with that mistake and all those DRS issues, especially as he seemed to not be able to handle well his frustration on the matter. Checo should have won in a fairer world.

And.. yeah, Hamilton vs K-Mag... did Hamilton do a short and sudden kick on K-Mag or not? I didn't get to see more than one replay, but it kinda looked like that.

3663  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Sending BTC To Gambling Site Time Range Question? on: May 22, 2022, 10:14:41 AM
What percentage of people use nano ledger with electrum then you say?  There is no way a regular person who buy a nano ledger for storage such as sending their coins from an exchange like binance or coinbase is most likely using electrum?  Most would seem to just use ledger live?  There isn't any other programs you could use it together withe right besides electrum?

I don't know about percentages but I've been also using Electrum before I've bought the Nano S, so it was a natural option.\
Also it's known that LL is buggy and whenever people get into oddities and seek for help here, most probably he also gets advised to switch to Electrum.

Other wallets? Afaik Sparrow wallet may also work with Ledger, Blue Wallet too, and I know for sure that Mycelium for Android also works with Ledger since I've used that.

But neuroticfish, can you explain the issues you heard about with other people recovering their wallets later on if they have more than one account?   Because if someone has two bitcoin accounts they created... let say they call it bitcoin holding wallet and the other is bitcoin spending wallet... what happens when they restore their seed and then add the accounts back to ledger live?  Will it show one account or two accounts?  And how would that look?  Say their main account has 5 BTC and the spending wallet account could have say 0.005 btc.  What happens when they restore their seed?

In LL each new account means a different derivation path. You can see in their technical docs on derivation path:

Code: (https://github.com/LedgerHQ/ledger-live-common/blob/master/docs/derivation.md)
purpose' / coin_type' / account' / change / address_index

As also stated there, a typical derivation is

Code: (https://github.com/LedgerHQ/ledger-live-common/blob/master/docs/derivation.md)
44'/0'/0'/0/0

I've seen posts about wallet software that didn't handle correctly / didn't also check the derivation paths of accounts different than the original one (i.e. account 0), hence scaring people that they've lost coins (they didn't).
Also afaik it's not written anywhere that the other account has this or that derivation path.

So nothing is usually lost, but it's still troublesome for newbies when they wanted to recover or switch to another wallet software. Unfortunately I don't have exact examples at hand.

I do not believe that I will receive my money, but I hope as many people as possible find out about these scammers, thanks for reading this ..

Unfortunately, exactly like you, people come here after they've got scammed, instead of doing a little background check before entrusting a random website to hold their coins.
And yeah, you're, by far, not the first one complaining...

Sorry for your losses.
3666  Economy / Economics / Re: Stable coin can solve poverty on: May 20, 2022, 06:55:25 PM
Plan to solve
Create usd or other stablecoin like eur or why not gbp...
And make big airdrop.
So everybody will get nice ammount Smiley
And exchangers will pay apy like 40-50% to hold

Its instant plan to remove poverty you print money

This is the best plan to keep hungry people busy. Make a new shitcoin, call it EURO USD GOLD to make sure you didn't miss anything important and give it to everybody. Best is to ask them also do some work for you in exchange (to keep them busy, remember?).
This new coin will be totally worthless, since I don't expect you have the billions of billions (or tons of gold) to back it and you can give all the APY you want (because 0 multiplied with everything you want it still 0).
The only flaw is that since it's worthless, the exchanges will most probably not accept to trade it, since they want actual profit.

And yes, everybody will be rich, at least in their dreams.

Sorry, unless you are a rich country's government, this won't work.
3667  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Signing transactions in Electrum hot wallet while temporarily offline on: May 20, 2022, 06:47:48 PM
I do actually have a hardware wallet but I wanted to transfer my electrum wallets off one laptop

Here you already lost me. Do you use Electrum with the hardware wallet? If so the seed and keys should be safely on the hardware wallet and you can just fire up Electrum on the new computer (after you made sure you've downloaded it from electrum. org and verified it), plug the hardware wallet (depending on the make) and select in Electrum that you have hardware device; Electrum will handle the rest.

So please clear up if your Electrum actually contains the wallet seed or you use it with HW. It's important.

I wanted to transfer my electrum wallets off one laptop so I can take it for repair, but keeping the wallets intact and not have to pay fees for sending to another wallet.

I hope that you know that you'll have to wipe the wallet files (and maybe the free space too) in order make sure others won't recover your wallet, right?
Of course, if your computer does/did contain private key/seed.

My understanding of the signing process is that the private key needs to be revealed momentarily in order to create a signature to append to the transaction, which is why air-gapping is recommended, and also why I thought that this was a serious vulnerability if signature generation is done whilst online. Hence why I was disconnecting to do this. How is it that signing whilst offline is no less vulnerable than signing whilst online?

First of all, the wallet handles this for you. Second, it depends on the wallet; I do use Electrum with Nano S and there's no private key not seed touching my computer.
Third, your setup doesn't make sense because if you have malware it can record your Electrum password and send it together with the wallet file next time you go online, whenever that happens. What would stop it from doing that?!

The securitisation of private keys through encryption is so in-depth and multi-tiered that it seems like there should be no chance of a private key being revealed even in a hot wallet, but that's clearly not the case for any wallet that's not air-gapped. There's a lot of emphasis in the community about "not your keys, not your coins", and whilst people are being urged to use hardware wallets more and more, the fact that private keys actually get exposed in hot wallets, even if it's only momentary, doesn't seem to be emphasised much at all. In reality hot wallets are only good for pocket change it seems.

I have a feeling you've misunderstood and mixed up some things big time.
A hardware wallet is not a dumb USB stick. The signing doesn't happen in a process in your laptop's memory and most probably it just gets the unsigned transaction and sends it back signed.

However, maybe it's better if you tell if you use the hardware wallet with Electrum (so we don't have to guess where the keys are to give you better advises) and maybe what make/model is that HW (at least to know it's indeed a hardware wallet).

From what I see after P2, the Mercs have indeed got improved. They seem to be dangerous again, they seem to be back in the fight for podium.

Yeah, keep interpreting everything in your own special manner in order to find "mistakes" everywhere and keep on with your odd narrative, you're doing great job polluting everything.
3670  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin has no future as a payments network, says FTX chief on: May 20, 2022, 02:54:03 PM
so stop trying to think of LN as bitcoin 2.0.. because its not, heck its not even bitcoin 0.00.01

You've picked the wrong guy. I don't think that LN is Bitcoin 2.0; LN is LN.

this is why LN is not bitcoin:
EMPHASIS
1. LN was not designed to fit bitcoin
2. LN is not a sole feature that only works/compatible with bitcoin
3. its a bridge between many coins. its not meant to be a 'bitcoin'

I don't care at all how it's called. And I don't care what was initially designed for.
It was improved, it seems to do well enough the L2 job for Bitcoin and it helps. Imho this is what matters at the end of the day.
You don't like it, don't use it.
3671  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Signing transactions in Electrum hot wallet while temporarily offline on: May 20, 2022, 02:15:11 PM
Is it possible to sign a transaction from an online Electrum wallet whilst temporarily disconnected from the internet?
I turn off wifi before opening an electrum wallet but then need to connect again to get up-to-date fees. I try to disconnect from wifi again to sign the transaction but it doesn't seem to work, so end up having to enter password for signing when online.

I've found lots of answers about how to sign using a wallet on a permanently offline computer but I don't have spare computer for this and besides, if it can be done on a permanently offline computer, it should be possible to sign on a temporarily offline computer.
 Huh Smiley

As said, it is possible; cold storage is never connected and still can sign.
You seem to have misunderstood some things. Also as said, the fact you just temporarily start the internet connection doesn't help at all to your funds' security. I've even read (here, on bitcointalk) about somebody doing this same approach thinking he has cold storage; sadly, he got his funds stolen.

So your wallet is hot wallet, no matter you open internet connection only now and then.
If you want added security, consider one of the following:
* learn to use cold storage properly; it's cheap and easy to set up with Tails OS and a lot of reboots.
* buy hardware wallet
* generate safely (but not this kind of bad half-safety, please) a new seed, write it down, write down one of the related addresses, keep the significant funds on this like a paper wallet; the (smaller) rest of the funds can remain on the hot wallet (i.e. at risk).
3672  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Help me understand how CEX/P2P wallet works on: May 20, 2022, 01:52:17 PM
This is exactly my question, how can they create a virtual address for a user and receive the fund?

Basically, they are marking public addresses based on a private key, but how does it possible?

What do they use or are there any services or API that I can use?

What I'm trying to do is, create a mobile app to provide some services to my users, but to allow users to pay their fees, I need to create a unique address (USDT TRC20, USDT ERC20, BTC, ETH, Tron, and...) for each user.
I could use some websites like coinpayments but it's a third party and I don't want my users to use third-party services.

They don't create a virtual address. They do create very real and good addresses. Afaik all crypto wallets can create new addresses by request. And yes, their software works together with one or more wallet software (depending how many coins/chains they support).
Then they add an entry to a DB telling that addresss X1 on chain (for coin) C1 (possibly different row or table for each coin they support) is a deposit address for user U1. Whenever the wallet will receive funds to that address, a trigger will be called checking the number of confimrations. If a threshold is met, they put for U1 in their own database that he has +x coins in the table related to the deposited coin.

From that moment they can spend the coins from the deposit address (eg for U2 withdrawal on the same coin) and U1 account still remains credited.

Clearer?
3673  Economy / Economics / Re: Using plants as a savings account on: May 20, 2022, 10:49:34 AM
When I've read the topic I was thinking: tulips? LOL!  Cheesy (no offense, one has to have fun now and then)

Small plants have a value.

You're right, but there's a big "but":
One has to learn first. One has to understand the ways, else he will only waste time and money instead of getting any plants.
One has to sell plants with good potential, else the customers' plants will keep dying and the bad reviews may become a rule, not an exception.

This is how I see it. Plants are alive and it's not that easy to handle them. Also not all of them are suitable for any place in the world.
3674  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Correcting newbie's can be done in a nicer way using a polite approach on: May 20, 2022, 10:44:41 AM
As long as there's no words like "Id**t", "S***id" or similar, I'd not consider a reply unpolite.

I strongly agree to this.

@Israelgogo:
Keep in mind that not all here have English as mother tongue and some may sound overly harsh without intending so, because of let's say unfortunate choice of words.

Also, there are people used to use strong words on the daily basis.

Also, one has better and worse days, hence more patience now and maybe less at some other point.

Keep in mind that even unpolite answers can be useful. A common saying around this forum is "grow a thicker skin" (and maybe it sounds a bit strange, it's very correct and very useful). Learn to get the best of everything and ignore the rest (move on). And if you don't like the "writing style" (heh) of one or another, you always have a powerful tool at hand: the ignore link.
3675  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Transferring Electrum wallet to new online computer on: May 20, 2022, 10:36:57 AM
I will add that:

1. You can also transfer the actual wallet files to the new computer and load them up in the new Electrum (in most of the cases there will be no error), and if you get errors/issues then you can go on the seed phrase approach.
2. If your computer has malware, it can steal your wallet file and password and hence your funds even without getting directly the seed phrase(s).

While I agree with @Lucius' post, for scanning I usually (also) look for images I can burn on CD/DVD, boot from them and use the AV scanner from there. Some of the major AV providers do offer such images for free (just make sure that at running those you check for updates too).

And yes, if the amount of money there is significant, you should consider either acquiring a hardware wallet, either learning how to make your own cold storage.
3676  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live and USDC (TRC20) on: May 20, 2022, 10:17:43 AM
My friend sent some USDC to the Ledger nano X wallet on the Tron network.
The mobile version of Ledger live does not display the USDC (TRC20) token at the moment.
Can you tell me how to transfer USDC from Ledger Live?

I didn't work with TRON network, but it seems to not be supported yet by Ledger Live.

Is it possible somewhere in Ledger Live to indicate its smart contract number (TEkxiTehnzSmSe2XqrBj4w32RUN966rdz8) instead of the USDC token name?
If you can’t transfer through Ledger Live, then advise a TRON wallet that works with TRC20 tokens, where you can import SEED or a private key.

You should never enter the hardware wallet seed in other software or website, that is against what hardware wallet is meant for.
It seems though that you can use Ledger wallet with Tron scan to do the job:

Hello, Don't worry your coins are safe. USDC on TRX network is not supported in Ledger Live yet and so cannot be displayed in the Ledger TRON account. However you can use Tronscan connected with your Ledger device to view and manage your token balance. For more information please refer to our article linked below: https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/4403786119569-Set-up-and-use-TronScan-to-access-your-Ledger-Tron-TRX-account?docs=true

Please note that when you use third party wallet, you are only using their interface. Your private keys remain secured by the Ledger device.
3677  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Getting fee ranges for unconfirmed transactions, a la mempool.space on: May 20, 2022, 09:51:48 AM
If you have your own mempool, maybe consecutive calls of estimatesmartfee with increasing (or decreasing) parameter would do.
Or you can find web based mempools that allow API calls like https://mempool.space/api/v1/fees/mempool-blocks and parse/interpret the results, just make sure you're within the allowed amount of API calls for the platform(s).
3678  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: I buy bitcoin and its not came upp to wallet . on: May 20, 2022, 08:32:28 AM
I know 1 web suite and before was no problem to köpa bitcoin, but till finish, web site  tell them send all money, but i dond see them .

Also this time (last) i order bitcoin from portebly wallet .

Can Electrum see place my money is now and how to get then to wallet ?

Thabk you i forhand and , have a nice weekend .

Did that platform you bought from give a transaction ID about your coins?
It should be a long string that looks like this one: f7360e4fa149adb8354ffdc52e4ae511c37afdef8859d21a497118f0760201d2
(I've just taken the transaction ID of a random transaction)

If they did and you don't have a problem showing it, you can post that here (but please make sure you don't post private key).
Or (if you have no problem showing) you can post the address you're expecting the coins arrive to (and again, please make sure you don't post private key).

Or you can post the address or transaction Id to website like https://mempool.space/ and see for yourself if
* the new transaction you expect did come
* the new transaction is confirmed or not
3679  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Sending BTC To Gambling Site Time Range Question? on: May 20, 2022, 08:15:54 AM
Well right now fees seem to be 6 sat for low, 9 sat for medium and 16 sat for high.  So could you do 1 sat if you choose?  Okay but what if you are receiving btc from gambling sites and then depositing those amounts to another gambling site?  Use electrum or create another wallet on nano ledger?

Electrum and Ledger Live are only software handling the private keys and transactions.
The money is neither on Ledger, nor on Electrum.
I use Electrum with my Ledger Nano S.
So you have to understand first what you're talking about.

What if few times you just want to withdraw btc from gambling site to your own wallet for cold storage?   Then any issue with that?  Just like normal then?
The thing though is when the site send you btc, you see the transaction and total btc balance.  But when you do other transactions later on, can that site see you moving your old btc?  But that isn't big concern right since its not like a person?

So say someone want to do few btc transactions.  Let say they want to receive just 50 dollars worth of btc from gambling site A... then send around that 50 dollars or even a bit less to another gambling site.  What do you recommend here then?  You don't want these transactions to go through your btc main account wallett?

What about if you want to withdraw say 500 dollars worth of btc from a gambling site A and only deposit say 100 dollars into gambling site B and hold the remaining amount of btc?  Which wallet and how should you do it?

Cold storage is about how you handle your wallet. What you have is not exactly cold storage. Cold storage imho needs a device (computer?) that's never connected to the internet.
If you want to understand better what happens with your coins I think that you should use Electrum with your Nano S, enable the Addresses tab, give new unused address for each new withdrawal, label the addresses, use  the "spend from" feature to spend only from certain addresses for certain sites so they don't know so well what coins are from where (although the Electrum server will know, like the Ledger Live server did, and to obtain more advanced privacy you need a setup I believe you cannot do now).

What about if you want to withdraw 1000 dollars worth of btc from site to your hard wallet for storage?  Can you just get new address on nano ledger and do it like that?  Because when you do this, the btc receive would get added to the main btc account?

That "main account" is just a sum. If you use what I've said a couple of lines before, you can avoid this problem.

So people here... who store btc with their nano ledger s... many of you have two accounts?  So example... one could be called bitcoin main account which has btc... and another account would be called bitcoin spending account?  And that one could have much less and for daily transactions?  So when you want btc to be sent to that spending wallet... you click receive... then make sure you click on the account you named bitcoin spending account... is that correct?  But any btc you want stored for holding, you would then choose bitcoin main account?

So most people just have one btc account in ledger live correct?  Thus in accounts, you would probably see just BTC Account or BTC Main Account?  That is the segwit account im talking about.  But many other people would have two accounts showing and titled BTC Account... and another one would be BTC Spending Account so you see two different accounts and different balances for each?  You could have a third btc account where you call it ... Payment for Subscription... where that account could mainly be for paying subscription?

If you use more than one "account" you may get surprises when recovering your wallet, I've seen that before and I don't like that approach.
As I said, I use Electrum with Ledger, labels, spend from.

Just as a note: if you go on this path, please select "use with hardware device" and not enter your seed (never enter your wallet's seed anywhere else than your hardware device and backup papers).
