+1 to Lethn's write-up, although that makes it sound even worse than it actually is, it's pretty much the truth. The EUSSR is obviously bad news, although being in it is arguably more of a symptom of Britain's sociopolitical malaise than the major cause.

The Britain a lot of people overseas admire is the place that existed 50+ years ago...
About the first and last thing overseas people want from UK is an education degree. I say it's overrated though...you wouldn't imagine how easy it was to get in an UK university apart from Oxbridge, LSE, and Imperial.

We moderate and delete based on reports received. We simply do not have the manpower and strength to read each post in this forum. Gmaxwell is receiving reports from people reading your posts, and thus the deletions and warnings. If we're seriously moderating the Custom Hardware subsection, almost 30% of the posts would have be gone by now.

all correct statements IMO.

1)  many users in your system are reporting my posts and "inappropriate"   It is relevant to this point that BFL & Josh have likely used downvoters on reddit, and it wouldn't be a stretch to say they can generate many bitcointalk user actions of any sort.  [ https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=136771.0 ]

2)  Certainly most of Custom Mining posts, if properly moderated, should be deleted.  Yet only mine was.  I could cite many examples of Josh launching personal insults at me in that very thread.  My fact-based post, including the video once again where he insults me on the floor of CES, something clearly he is not interested in seeing again or having other possible pre-order candidates see, is the only thing deleted.

1) No idea on this conspiratory theory.

2) You wouldn't believe how many posts were deleted from that section. I personally deleted over 20-30+ posts from that section, and I can imagine how many posts other mods would have deleted. No, I didn't delete any of your posts as far as I remember. Please refer to my post above. If the post is Off-Topic to a certain extent, it is worthy of deletion. That's it. We don't censor swear words etc, if the other content pertains to the subject.

That said, I'm always avoiding Custom Hardware if possible. Too much headache inside.

www.joshzerlan.com is my new favorite website

Sometimes I can't believe you are even a real. I mean the level of denial on how badly I'm currently destroying you is so palpable.

You are playing great today Josh.

this OP is also a blatent mis-quote of me.  the OP, again trying to discredit me, posts as if I was the one that posted JoshZerlan.com link in the BFL thread.  It was not me.  It was another unconnected user.  Then Josh replies to that launching more personal insults at me.  Then I reply to that with the fact-based account of our CES interaction, then mods delete my post and say my tone is unacceptable and my posts repetitive.

I think it's pretty clear whose side of this debate the mods are taking:  the side of the company buying all the advertising here.  I can only imagine what else is going on between BFL and the mods here.
Yawn.
US MODS DON'T GET A SINGLE CENT FROM BFL, AND THE TROLLING INCURRED BY THEM IS A PITA.
Happy?
3670  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: DICEonCrack attacked? on: January 27, 2013, 05:15:04 AM
Ok, so it was a full on double spend attack and all my prevention methods failed miserably.

Until I find a new way DoC will only process bets after they have been included in a block, but we are trying to come up with a safe way to address this limitation.
Ouch. What was your losses from this doublespend attack?

Public service message:

How can one be certain you won't hold onto the private key?
Never trust that, regardless of the rep and the guarantees.
Use services that do not have access to your privatekeys like:

https://bitcoinvanity.appspot.com/
http://vanitypool.thruhere.net/

Or even better, generate them yourself by using VanityGen.

Hey everybody,

My name is Seth and I've recently started doing customer support for BitInstant. You may see me in this forum trying to help people out from time to time.

I'd like to add the BitInstant logo to my profile but I can't seem to at the moment. I may need to get whitelisted first. Not sure.
If Yankee can confirm that, I can whitelist you.
3674  Other / Off-topic / Re: non-legit charity sites ? on: January 26, 2013, 02:58:19 PM
The first is legit, while the second is an utter scam. In case you missed it, Southerncomfort, furrycoat, and siesatsu were the accounts used by the scammer to perpetrate the scam. They're still occasionally back, using Youtube videos with the link in place etc. Please report such posts.
3675  Other / Meta / Re: In which tradefortress cries in support of troll sock puppet accounts on: January 26, 2013, 02:52:04 PM
The correct approach would be to delete the entire thread. Spray 'em with Troll-B-Gone.
It's either this, or the renaming. To quell the anti-censorists(is that even a word??), I'd say the latter works better.
There's no pleasing everyone.

Yeah, both sound uncannily similar in prose and style. Atruk's posts is less belligerent, though.

3680  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin crashes after downloading the blockchain on: January 26, 2013, 09:35:38 AM
Try -salvagewallet first.

The usefulness of your backup depends on your keypoolsize (default: 100) and how many keys you've used since the backup.  Every time you ask for a new address, you use one key from the pool.  Every time you send and get change, you use one key from the pool.  If your wallet isn't busy, a backup from a few months ago may still be fine.  Try -salvagewallet first anyway.

The "not enough space" message probably doesn't mean what you think it means.  Check your db.log file for clues.

hmm, I've always put 'keys=0' in my config file, to stop wallet bloat
This is a very bad idea. When you send a payment, the remainder of an input is sent back to you to a new address. Normally this is sent to one of 100 reserve pool addresses that are pre-created. If you make a backup of your wallet with no reserve keys, as soon as you start spending money, you will be receiving change back at addresses not in your backup, making your backup instantly obsolete, and guaranteeing the loss of funds if you need to use the backup.

This. I usually set keys=100 to make my backups easier.
