3681  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Portsmouth, Bitcoin City on: March 27, 2022, 07:24:27 AM
 In order for citizens to have more payment options, the city of Portsmouth, located in New Hampshire, allowed residents to cancel services with Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency;
Cancel services? I guess you meant pay services.

That article from Cointelegraph is not entirely correct when they mentioned that people of Portsmouth will be able to pay their bills with any cryptocurrency because it will be only possible via PayPal so if you wanted to pay directly from your own personal BTC wallet, tough luck. AFAIK, you can only buy/sell four cryptocurrencies on PayPal at the moment: BTC, LTC., ETH and BCH so you will be limited to those. Even though it's not a real crypto adoption in the full sense of the word, but it's still a small move forward.

“City customers who have cryptocurrency stored in their PayPal account can now make payments to the city using that cryptocurrency when they choose PayPal as their payment method,” she said in a memo to City Manager Karen Conard. “This new payment method has no impact on the city’s financial practices as the cryptocurrency is converted to U.S. currency by PayPal before it is sent to our payment processor.”

I don't see much point in getting rid of a good currency that appreciates, and keeping the shitty currency that depreciates, although there may be exceptions to this, such as people who get all or most of their income in Bitcoin, or people who own a lot of Bitcoin.
Keep in mind that being usable is what keeps Bitcoin to appreciate. True, Bitcoin shifted more towards being store of value but nevertheless I don't think it's a good idea to completely ignore its original purpose and use it to pay for something when you have a chance.

Rikafip i svi koji pratite serije i filmove, možda ste čuli ili gledali seriju The Cleaning Lady, koju je napravio Fox.
Nisam ni gledao ni cuo, bacit cu oko.

3683  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Did you share your key to your family? on: March 26, 2022, 08:27:06 AM
It's your family, if you don't trust them, who do you trust, and why would a person have one if that's the case? Your family can hurt you with or without Bitcoin.
I think that it's important to differentiate trusted persons and family members as those two things are not necessarily the same. While you can chose your wife, you can't chose the family you are born into and unfortunately some people are born into shitty ones where you can't trust anyone with your money.

If you think that way, you are in danger of being stabbed, poisoned, robbed and strangled all the time.
While certain level of caution is always good, people here are often too paranoid and not even willing to let their wives know about Bitcoin/seed phrases etc. If I couldn't trust my wife with something like that, I would seriously think about my own judgement and who I married.

With that being said, I shared my keys with two trusted family members that live separately, which is also something to think about as you don't wanna keep all your keys in the same place as bad stuff like fire can always happen.

I will make reputation of exvhanger down and also will hire soneone who will techically will fuck all the exchanger.
Are you even aware what it would cost you to attack something like exchange (that usually have good protection) via ddos or any other type of similar attack? Based on your comments, I seriously doubt.

But dont worry exchangers knows this they will be out of business if they start f around with customers
Some exchanges are screwing their customers for years yet they are still around. Take HitBTC, Yobit, P2PB2B, Coinsbit etc, all exchanges with horrible reputation and the long history of screwing up, yet somehow people still use them and their are in the business. Again, things are not as simple as portrayed them and that's why no one should keep their money on the exchange, even if its one of the biggest ones like Coinbase or Binance. They can take your money based on any bs reason they come up with and there is nothing you can do about it.

3685  Other / Meta / Re: Wall of fame / shame. Shit posts so bad that they are actually funny on: March 25, 2022, 05:19:44 PM
Another, recent, example is Snowshow. He's appeared several times with alts, trying to force their own interpretation about the world, what's real and what's not etc. Why are they doing this? Do they demand social support and recognition?
Trolls wants attention, and that's exactly what he is getting here. Last time I checked his latest thread had 10 pages, so I would say mission accomplished. That guy started his "career" on one popular Croatian forum years ago but since they have far less tolerance for such trolls and ban his alts instantly, he moved on here where he can freely spread his nonsense to even wider audience, knowing that he won't get banned even though one of his accounts is already banned. In a few days he will get bored, go away and resurface with yet another alt that will do the same thing all over again. Arguing with him is nothing but a pigeon chess, but I guess people don't mind.

For the reference here is marloboroza's thread about his case, Ban evasion (account fxsurfer).
3686  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: List of VPN Service Providers - 2021 on: March 25, 2022, 05:07:33 PM
Understandable Rikafip, I'm sure you'll be very pleased! I don't know if you've noticed but Mullvad also offers the option for someone to pay with cash[1], which I found also interesting:
Yep, I saw it and I don't remember seeing that somewhere else and it's nice to see that even people who don't want to pay with crypto (or simply don't have it) can still keep their anonymity. Kudos to Mullvad, not many services would bother with that at this day and age.

So far the only service/website that actively blocked my Mullvad servers (and that also blocks IVPN ones) were gambling websites (specifically bet365.com). Not that I gamble - which I don't - but some friends of mine were looking for VPN's that allowed them to play in such houses and asked me to try it out with bad results. So if you're looking into those kind of options as well Rikafip I advice you to double check before jumping in as well.
I tested it today and it seems like bet365 still blocks all Mullvad servers I tried to use, while some others like Sportsbet (which is banned in the country I am currently living in) works without any issues whatsoever. Either way, that's not an issue for me as as I am kinda old school guy and bet online only if I really have to.

I've recently transfered large amounts of data between servers, and geographical distance matters a lot. If it's relatively close, I've seen 90 MB/s (almost the full 1000 Gbit/s), but if it's further away, it drops to around 7 MB/s.
I know, and it was the reason why I tested speed with servers that were at the max distance for me, like Australia, New Zealand and West Coast of the United States. If those servers can handle 4k streaming (and they could) then those in Europe which I occasionally use should be even better. And they were when I tested them today.
3687  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏆 2022 OSCARS - Nominees, Odds and Predictions! on: March 25, 2022, 02:49:26 PM
I very much agree. Power of the Dog is certainly the most boring movie nominated for Oscar best picture and it appears there are bettors who speculate that the academy members might have voted for Coda as best picture.
Maybe for you and few others here on the thread, but for me Power of the Dog is probably the best out of nominated. With that being said, I do understand that slow burn dramas are not everyone's cup of tea and its a type of movie you either like a lot, or not at all, there's usually no middle ground with those. I fall into former group so I enjoyed it a lot. I am personally bored more with mindless action than with anything else.

it appears there are bettors who speculate that the academy members might have voted for Coda as best picture. The odds have reduced from 5.00 to only 2.15.
As a matter of fact, CODA odds were 26 to win the Oscar when I started this thread (February 10th) so it means that people are massively betting on it. Despite that, I still think that it won't win award and I won't best on it.

I reckon this might be because Coda won the Producer's guild awards for best movie. I will bet for Coda. This might be similar to 2018 and 2019 where Green Book and Parasite won best picture versus the favorites.
I honestly didn't expect that as TPOFG won both BAFTA and Golden Globe in the most important category so I expected it to be far ahead of the others, but I won't complain at the increased odds , as it went from ~1.6 to 1.8.

Fist post of the thread has been updated with the latest odds and I shifted order of some categories so it makes more sense.
3688  Economy / Exchanges / Re: FYBIT | Cryptocurrency Trading Platform on: March 25, 2022, 09:04:50 AM
There are no complaints about withdrawal problems in our chat, probably because we have no problems with withdrawals on our platform.
Ah, so you must be the only trading platform in the world where your users don't have any questions about your services, or any issues whatsoever. In reality, either no one is really using your platform or you are deleting negative comments. Or it's combination of both of those things.

There are only 4 coins available on our platform: BTC, ETH, ADA, BCH and probably that's why people are not asking about listing other coins nor they're shilling them. Also, it worth noting that we're crypto trading platform and not crypto exchange. There is a difference between being a trading platform and an exchange.
Ok, you are not exchange but trading platform so that's why no one is shilling shitcoins are asking to get listed but do you really think that you will fool anyone with stuff that is going on in your Telegram group? Just take a look at the screenshot below, taken this morning. Group of accounts ( again with obvious fake names) came at the same time, talked for about 20 minutes and went afk, again at the same time. And as I said before, they do it all the time; they come as a group, chat a little bit and then they go off. Coincidence? I think not.

Anyway, whoever you are paying for to do this is doing a shitty job and won't fool anyone (like you won't fool us here) more experienced and is basically ripping you off. There is some poetic justice though, dodgy trading platform being ripped off by a dodgy "chatting service". Then again, your target audience are probably newbies, considering the marketing approach you took,

First post from the user Alicehodge and immediately started with plagiarism. To be more precise, combination of paraphrasing and text spinning from The Verge article, and all this to promote NFT marketplace development company, as they described themselves.

There is nothing like a whirlwind of blockchain news to leave you thinking, about what's going on here. that is the feeling I have experienced while hearing about NFTs and NFT marketplace.
There’s nothing like an explosion of blockchain news to leave you thinking, “Um… what’s going on here? That’s the feeling I’ve experienced while reading about Grimes getting millions of dollars for NFTs or about Nyan Cat being sold as one.

Non-fungible token or NFT means that is unique and can't be replaced with something else. for example, a cryptocurrency is fungible - trade one for another cryptocurrency, you will have exactly the same thing
“Non-fungible” more or less means that it’s unique and can’t be replaced with something else. For example, a bitcoin is fungible — trade one for another bitcoin, and you’ll have exactly the same thing
3690  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: List of VPN Service Providers - 2021 on: March 24, 2022, 06:08:18 PM
What is your normal internet speed without using any VPN?
I have 200/200. Fiber connection, so very low ping.

50-60 Mbps is not bad but it could be better especially if your normal speed is much higher than that, but it all depends from country you choose, latency, percentage of use for specific location and other factors.
True, it could be better, but since those speeds are more than enough for 4k HDR streaming (afaik 25-30 Mbps is enough) I am fine with it. Also, keep in mind that those were the speeds for US/Australia/Japan servers which are very far away from me.

I saw that windscribe is offering location that are specialized servers used for streaming and netflix, there are four of them in Canada, United States, United Kingdom and Japan.
Since Netlfix works good with Mullvad on all those servers that you mentioned (and many more), there's really no point for me testing that one as well. While you can find several VPNs that work good with Netflix, problems start when you want to get one that will work with several others streaming sites. Beside Netflix, I use Amazon, Apple+ and HBO Max and to find VPN that works reliably for all of those while having wide selection of server is very hard. Well, there's one, but it has it's own issues.

I wanted to try Surfshark that looks decent and they son't have any bandwidth limits or restrictions
Let me know if you check that one!
3691  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have you even helped anyone with bitcoin? on: March 24, 2022, 05:43:34 PM
And why did you transfer Bitcoin to him instead of transferring fiat? In my case almost nobody in my environment knows that I have Bitcoin and if I have to help someone, for example by making donations, I do it using fiat, not Bitcoin.
That story OP wrote might seem far fetched, or even a merit-fishing tactic (and maybe it is)  but I did similar thing more than once, I sent BTC to people in need (orphanage and some humanitarian organizations). The only difference is that I was sending BTC and they were receiving fiat as it was done via Paycek, which is popular crypto payment processor in my country. I could have sent fiat instead, but I simply wanted to do my part when it comes to Bitcoin adoption.

It doesn't make much sense to me to spend the good currency, the one that appreciates, and keep the bad one, the one that depreciates.
I think that there is nothing wrong with using Bitcoin for what it was initially intended for. After all, use of early adopters brought us to where we are now. I don't advocate spending absolutely all your BTC  if you have loads of fiat lying around, but there is nothing wrong with spending some of your BTC every once in a while as that way we do our part (no matter how insignificant it may seem) in helping with Bitcoin adoption.

3692  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Btc and usdt people trust on: March 24, 2022, 02:12:19 PM
USDT has always been considered to be stable for about 5+ years which is why people trust it and even when I need to withdraw my money, I use it as it has the lowest fee and is accepted by local exchanges too. If I had to use BTC, I would be paying $20-$50 in fees which is not worth it.
If you have to pay $20-$50 in fees when sending BTC, you are either keeping your BTC in some bad custodial wallet that is overcharging people, or you are sending it via exchanges that usually have high fixed fees. If you are keeping your BTC in non-custodial wallets like Electrum that allow you to manually set your fees, you wouldn't have to pay for more than 50-60 cents. Just yesterday I bought VPN subscription with BTC and transaction fees were 50 cents. It could have been much lower than that but I wanted it done fast so I paid a little bit extra.

Exchanges should offer support to hold USD instead of USDT to make it even more safe
If you want to hodl fiat, you already have banks for that. After all, exchanges are a horrible place to hold your money for longer period of time. And same thing goes for centralized cryptocurrencies like USDT which can be easily freezed in your own wallet and there is nothing you would be able to do about it. And now compare that to Bitcoin and you will realize how unsafe USDT is for hodl.
3693  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: List of VPN Service Providers - 2021 on: March 24, 2022, 09:59:09 AM
If you are able to, I would also recommend that you check out IVPN[5]. I know it has been discussed in this thread but I've also used them in the past and I enjoyed them as much as Mullvad. They've also got WireGuard implemented which is nice. Recently they've also been supporting Ukrainian refugees with free IVPN accounts[6] - as well to Russian oppressed population - which even though doesn't make them more "privacy" oriented, they could've just continued their operations as normal and do nothing to help with the current crisis.
For now I will give Mullvad a go, as looking at IVPN server status they have even less countries supported than Mullvad, and only half of what ProtonVPN has so I doubt it would be good choice for me, especially for streaming.

It's not hard at all to find VPN that does one or two things very good, but to find one that does everything good seems impossible. I might try NordVPN again even though I wasn't really satisfied with their reliability at all few years ago but maybe they improved in the meantime, or suck it up and use ProtonVPN even though they miss one country on their list that is important to me. It really sucks that ExpressVPN is by far the best one when it comes to streaming purposes but that one is not an option anymore.

3695  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: List of VPN Service Providers - 2021 on: March 23, 2022, 05:46:29 PM
However, the initial discussion was about VPN with fairly good privacy for 4K streaming.
Exactly. I knew that it will be hard to find VPN provider that can tick all of my boxes and that some compromises will have to be made. Tbh, If I was doing something extremely risky, I don't think I would trust any of the  VPNs that are mentioned here, no matter what they say about not keeping logs etc as all of those things can change easily.

So, I took 1 month of Mullvad today to give it a go and I must say that I like it a lot, even though I won't use it for streaming. You can really tell that is privacy-oriented VPN.

First of all, registration is very simply and straightforward; you get 16 digit code that is your only login info. No emails, no confirmations and no hassle. I used BTC for payment of course and what I like is that you get 10% discount compared to other means of payment (to be precise they offer 10%  discount for BCH as well) so it's nice to see that they encourage people to use crypto. I tried various servers, from EU countries to NA and Asia and speed was generally very good, between 50-60 Mbps which is more than enough for comfortable 4k HDR streaming/torrenting.

Regarding streaming sites, I was surprised to see that Netflix actually works as I Googled it a bit and people said that Mullvad is generally not very good for that. So, I managed to access US, Australian, Japanese and few others without any issues. Unfortunately, Amazon didn't work at all, no matter the server I chose so for me it's not an option. Even though I won't use it for streaming purposes, I think that I will extend my sub and continue using it on my PC and mobile phone as as primary VPN since I really like how privacy oriented it is and find something else that I will use for TV only where I watch majority of stuff,

After Mullvad, I was about to get 1 month ProtonVPN sub, hoping that will be my go-to streaming option. Since they boast to have servers in 63 countries I kinda assumed that one certain country will be among those, but for some reason it isn't which is a deal-breaker for me as for some streaming reasons I need server in that country.

The search goes on. Or I will just use 2 different VPNs from now on, Mullvad + something else.

But looking at how well he writes, I mean he's construction of he's words doesn't seem like he)her from Russia.
First of all, just because someone knows English well doesn't mean its his native language, especially at this day and age. 2nd, his English is far from the native level and it's not good at all.

Please heads and moderators, look into the links below to see for yourself, people like this are scammers and others(Community)should know about it.
While scam is not moderated here on bitcointalk so nothing can be done on that part, begging is against the forum rules so you can report him for that.

7. No begging.
3697  Economy / Reputation / Re: [LIST] ANN threads that are using bumping services on: March 23, 2022, 08:15:10 AM
Yes, that's true, Decent topic did not use bumping threads, as I mentioned in my previous post. However, there were thousands of zero-value posts (otherwise I could not have 1200+ posts reported and deleted and Welsh more than 2000), most being useless "pyramidal quotes" or various fights between some users saying Decent is scam and others saying it's great.
From what I remember, only the last few pages of DECENT thread were basically 100% spam done by one of those bumping services. That is, at the moment I identified the same group of accounts working across six different threads. The rest was indeed the mix of shitposts, rants and the occasional constructive posts.

Some were also swearing. I reported all those posts, until those from June 2017 and they were deleted. So all had same pattern. This is why I think that, mostly, the mod which flagged those as bad was thinking differently than Welsh regarding spam or not constructive posts or he considered them as being too old for bothering to moderate them...
Yeah that's a common "issue", that while some mod might delete the post you reported, some might mark it as bad or even leave it unhandled. It happened to me more than once and it's not an issue if it's just about a single post, but it can become an issue like in your case when you are not sure anymore whether to continue reporting posts in that thread or not.

Furthermore, if you actually read the topic, not just those examples posted by me, you'll see those posts (given by me as examples but also most of the other ones as well) as being even less constructive. For example, to understand better what I am saying, look at all posts made by user holmes70. This guy is delusional and I believe he lost a ton of money with Decent. If you read the remaining of his posts, you'll see that all of them are made in Decent thread and you will notice also how often he changes his mind, calling Decent great a few times, calling it scam other times and so on.
You basically described 99% of the altcoin board threads, it's a total clusterfuck there. That whole section needs either big revamp or just to be locked.

Do you mean you tried to start a discussion about clearing things out regarding what posts can be reported (and have a chance to be deleted) based on the year when they were made? Sorry, I did not understand exactly what you meant here.
No, I referred to @Welsh suggestion about reporting only the first post and then mods clearing the rest of the thread. And I tried that in the past, I reported just the original post on the thread saying that it mainly consists of bumping spam as I hoped that might be enough for mods to take a look and just clear the thread without me reporting each post separately. Nothing happened of course, report remained unhandled.
3698  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏆 2022 OSCARS - Nominees, Odds and Predictions! on: March 22, 2022, 09:10:11 PM
Yes, only a small bet hehehe. It is also only a bet if the academy would allow a black actor to win as best actor in this year's Oscars hehehe.
Since in the last twenty years four black actors won "Best Actor in a Leading Role" Oscars I don't think that's such a big issue anymore, situation changed. What people often forget is that black American actors not only have white Americans as a competition, but also actors from several others predominantly white countries like United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, Spain, France etc and all those actors gravitate to United States. As a matter of fact, in the last ~20 years, only 13 out of 20 Oscars in that category were won by Americans. I mean, it sucks that we even have to talk about quotas and stuff like that, simply let the best man win.

Has anyone seen the worst person the world? There is a  massive amount of empathy shown towards   each character, for all their vices and faults. At some point, in the daily confusion and uncertainty of our lives, we've all felt like "the worst person in the world.” What a wonderful movie!
I've seen it and I agree, a very good movie. Probably the best one in International Feature category this year but haven't watched Drive My Car yet as its not easy to find three straight hours to watch it, even though it looks like my kind of movie.

This feels like a bit of a weird year for some reason as someone who's an American who watches a lot of movies, I've barley heard of the nominees this year.
Part of the reason might be that film industry is more focused on dramas and not so big budget movies due covid stuff. Same thing was last year, studios simply don't wanna risk a lot of money if they are not sure whether cinemas will be open and without that it's hard to return the investment. There is simply less buzz than in previous years.

I think there are several versions of Fistfull of Dollar already like that of Magnificent 7. Kind of western still. I like western movies espeically done by Tarantino.
Magnificent Seven (both the original and remake) is not a version of Fistfull of Dollars, but instead it's based on another classic by Akira Kurosawa, Seven Samurai. What's interesting is that Kurosawa was a big fan of American westerns (mainly John Ford) and was influenced by them so in a way westerns made a full circle. Regarding Tarantino, I liked Hateful Eight but Django Unchained not so much.

So I was kind of surprice how some of the nominees in OSCAR were released on netflix and some of them are actually series.
Yeah movies from streaming services can also be Oscar nominated, despite some big names like Steven Spielberg being against it. Regarding the series being nominated for Oscar, I think that you mixed something up as Oscar is a movie-only award. Golden Globe has series categories so maybe you confused it with that.
3699  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: List of VPN Service Providers - 2021 on: March 22, 2022, 11:10:26 AM
Proton also have the free version, but both Proton and Windscribe free versions are very limited in number of locations, speed and traffic.
For my use, free version of either of those is completely useless. As I said before, I am not a fan of "free" stuff as more often than not they end up being more costly (usually wasting my time, and time is money) than those I paid for. So yeah, gonna test ProtonVPN "Plus" plan which fits my needs.

Regarding all this lifetime/long term subscription thing, I generally avoid the former (I don't remember taking lifetime plan for anything) but I have nothing against 1 year sub. I don't take those right from the start though as first few months I like to test the service and if it proves to be reliable, I switch to yearly sub simply because I don't want to think about it every month. And as @dkbit98 said, it's not like I am risking thousands of dollars but 100, tops. I did the same thing with ExpressVPN, and will do with ProtonVPN as well if it proves to be as good as people claim it is.
3700  Economy / Exchanges / Re: FYBIT | Cryptocurrency Trading Platform on: March 22, 2022, 08:11:14 AM
I absolutely agree with you, but Fybit cannot be responsible for the messages of other forum users. On this forum, I'm the only official representative of Fybit.
Ok fair enough, let's say that (for the sake of the argument) you don't have anything with those shill accounts and that they are just some random users that did it on their own volition, but what about your Telegram group and activity that is going on there? Are we supposed to believe that sock puppet accounts are talking among themselves out of boredom, without you hiring them? Telegram chatter services are not charity organizations, they don't go around TG groups and chat for free, someone has to pay them.

If anyone has any doubt about activity there, they are free to head over to https://t.me/fybit_chat and check for themselves. This is how it usually goes there: few times per day group of sock puppet accounts starts talking among themselves for 20-30 minutes and then suddenly they all go off at the same time. Then again they come after 5-6 hours, they do the same thing and go off again. Rinse and repeat. Anyone that ever visited any exchange TG group knows that group chats consists mainly of people complaining about various stuff like not being able to withdraw money, asking about listing of some specific coin, shilling other shitcoins etc and basically nothing (or almost nothing ) of that can be found in your group. And don't get me started on the obvious fake names of those accounts: "Brenda Herrington", "Dorothy Slater", "Brittany Banks", "George Smith", "Charles Murphy" etc.
