3681  Economy / Lending / Re: loans here collateral what are the rates? on: August 13, 2020, 01:55:40 AM
They're normally defined by the lender but are generally between 100-150%, I'd say the median of collateral coverage is around 120% though.
3682  Other / Meta / Re: Should confirmed liars with close links to other liars and scammers be on DT1? on: August 13, 2020, 12:10:37 AM
Why are you following default trust anyway, make your own trust list or just make it blank...

You're better off reading reports and references then having an elitist system. Default trust is intended for noobs... Well its debatable how well both systems have worked so is every possible system in existence, if you put humans in charge they're going to make mistakes.
3683  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Miner commission on: August 12, 2020, 08:45:08 PM
I'd recommend if you've received a lot of inputs in the past to consolidate them into one address if you can while paying a low fee (at least sliding the fee adjuster all the way to the left but someone might know how to enable manual fees and then you can use a lower fee still).
3684  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How use electrum wallet on laptop with mobile bitpay App on: August 12, 2020, 08:38:27 PM
There are going to be a few ways to do this and some will be more appropriate depending on the circumstance.

I'd suggest getting a bitcoin address from the bitpay app and emailing it to yourself?. You might have to search up how to do this within the app.

Check the first 3, last 3 and a random middle three characters of the address to ensure its the same.

You also might be able to use a qr code with the app too which is a bit like a 3d barcode. You can insert the amounts you want to use on your laptops electrum wallet (in "send")
3685  Other / Meta / Re: Will I be banned if I deleted too many posts at once? on: August 12, 2020, 07:21:32 PM
No it'll be fine.

As a general rule: if the es no explicit rule against it and its something a normal person would do and wouldn't interfere with the running of the forum then you can go ahead and do it...
3686  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is merit and why do some people have up to thousands? on: August 12, 2020, 06:38:58 PM
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2766177.0 this thread might help you get some answers.

Essentially merits help you to rank up in the forum and to allow to forum to encourage users to make quality posts.

You may be better off thinking about them as similar to an upvofe but there's a limited supply that users can give out. For every 2 merits you receive you'll get one merit you can send. There are also merit sources who get airdropped amendable merits.

3687  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it the new crypto scam hiding in wait? on: August 12, 2020, 02:30:53 PM
I couldnt work out what it was...

It's either a fractional reserve idea for the defi space (I think I got offered a way to increase mine by 3x - but I didn't).
Either that or you're lending off people paying lower rates to lend their funds at a higher rate which would be good for competition but also carries risk...

The defi space is growing fast, prepare for scams therell probanly be a lot!
3688  Economy / Economics / Re: You want to become a millionaire, here is the secret formula on: August 12, 2020, 02:15:41 PM
I find it weird we reference 1 million all the time as if it's remained the same thing.

In the past, wealthy people would only have worth into the millions - now their wealth can be into the billions and the cost of inflation means that having a million now is like having 500000 ~30-40 years ago and the 80s wasn't that long ago imo (even if I wasn't there). The millionaire idea looks to be becoming a trap rather than anything productive.

Also as stated above, you have the capital to buy products and the capital or time spent on advertising...
3689  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: walletgenerator.net, I find no way to verify the download with PGP on: August 11, 2020, 07:16:01 PM
Are you downloading the source code or the application? Some developers assume if it's the source code that people should be able to read and vaguely understand the code before rubbing it. This assumption might just be that they assume one person who accesses the repo will notice if something changes and be able to report it.
3690  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russia plan to use untested vaccine against the coronavirus on: August 11, 2020, 04:50:24 PM
The vaccine will be tested on Philippines citizens, there is an agreement already to do it this month.

What's strange is that these tests are being set up by a Russian investment fund... Another thing: in Putin's statement, he says that the vaccine has a long-lasting effect... So it means they were testing the vaccine for 3 months at least

We started human trials two months ago with the UK vaccines so I don't think 3 months is long enough to determine there are no long term health effects. And testing it on the Philippines and not members of your own population sounds a bit strange (almost as if they don't have confidence).

Long term health effects from certain things can take months or years to show which a lot of vaccines probably won't be able to protect against. I think a vaccine would probably be better offered to everyone who wants it and prioritise those who need it and not just be given to everyone...
3691  Other / Politics & Society / Russia plan to use untested vaccine against the coronavirus on: August 11, 2020, 04:20:58 PM
the previous OP is quoted below and wasn't edited since the post date until now afaik.

Russia, instead of what most people were lead to believe, have now started a stage 3 safety trial on the vaccine.

This is the point at where other countries are currently at, if you'd like to check the stages and what they mean, I'd suggest this wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaccine_trial

The Oxford trial and a few other countries trials have already entered this stage and russia is technically a month behind the rest - probably why they came out with such bold statements when it started to move into phase III.

Quote
Russia have developed a vaccine that is yet to have clinical trials and yet to be proven effective against the SARS-COV-2 coronavirus. I think most health boards were under the assumption that 1 in 15 vaccines prove to be effective and safe (and collectively Europe and the US have around 17 currently being tested - or a similar number).

It's also a bit worrying that they're giving doses to healthcare workers and teachers at a fairly fast pace soon however they might reconsider what they're doing or wait for better results before going forward.
3692  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Where does verifying the signature help? on: August 11, 2020, 03:14:27 PM
The idea of using gpg verification is offering that extra bit of security. When you first download the key sure it may be compromised but surely people would notice? You cam also generally save a key pair for verification at a later stage.

Also keys should be staked in different places - the github, potentially tomasv's account here, the site and some directories. Sites can be compromised, it's just a case of hacking the dns or social engineering with the registrar.

If the computer is staying offline then yes it is effectively cold storage. The only way you'll lose your funds if it has been verified is if you lose the seed.
3693  Economy / Economics / Re: the billion dollars question on: August 10, 2020, 07:35:14 PM
Nothing... I'd buy nothing now...

At the 30% drop I moved my cash holdings into equity stock funds. At the moment I'd buy nothing. You could look for a stock thst hasn't yet risen in value again and you expect to but other than that just stick with your cash or put it in a bank account at a low %...

Edit: I should clarify I used a European Inc UK stock fund I wasn't sure the US would be a good buy but countries in Europe seemed to be handling the crisis better and the drop was after Italy and Spain started to open.
3694  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Is there a list of members of the forum (preferably trusted) with ln nodes? on: August 10, 2020, 05:59:05 PM
all I'd be able to run it from safely is a pi with a pruned chain (and without a constant connection)...
Somehow I was under the impression you need a full chain for this. What's the memory requirement? If it's not too much, a cheap VPS could do. Although I wouldn't trust those with much funds.

I've always wanted to run "something" that can fund any (small) LN payment request posted on the forum within seconds. I already check all posts, but need the LN side of it to work.

There was a fairly recent *I think* developmenf that allows you to now host a pruned node for it (not sure if it's an spv one or not).
Cheap VPS nodes aren't a bad idea as long as the aup is reasonable and the connection is quite good. I think there was a device you could use to run lightning also (maybe cassa or whatever its called does it).

And what are you after with the posts? You could find ln and a hex string following it or you could find something that'll digest the string. Do you need a hand coding something I can only do python, c# and java to a good enough extent...

If you're going to start the list, now I see philipma in here, I would suggest adding mocacinno here too. Not sure if you'd consider him super trustworthy as far as people go on this forum...

I'll send him a pm too. I should make it clear at this point that i will not be the one who decides who's trustworthy and who isn't, I want a list of forum members, from there everyone should be able to make their own informed decisions about who they believe is trustworthy.

A lot of people for example give trust based on how people post and I ignore that when determining whether to trade with someone (unless it's something serious) as a non payment or a delay is more of a problem than whether someone said something someone else didn't agree with... So I realise my views are particularly biased.
3695  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Overview of lightning network nodes owned by forum users on: August 10, 2020, 05:37:50 PM
You should speak with BitcoinFX he is hosting a number of tor nodes for bitcoin I think it would be good to have 2 list's here one for the tor nodes and one for clearnet nodes.

Yeah I'll send him a pm and see if he wants to be added. The separate list for tor nodes sounds like a good idea too, thanks!
3696  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: How to cancel Transaction Uniswap on: August 10, 2020, 05:34:30 PM
I have same problems before, and never find any cancel transaction from Metamask wallet. So the only way to do just sent 0 balance in same nonce number from Metamask with higher fees. But this is not to cancel just to makes your previous transaction being confirmed.

Here my thread when i got similar Issue.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5184484.msg52451444#msg52451444

Thank Sir, I did fix this, I trying nonce = nonce pending lower
p/s: I'm so sorry, My english verybad.

Thanks for coming back and saying that was the fix (most people don't and it helps for guests when they get stuck to know the fix).
3697  Other / Meta / Re: Best place to start in Bitcointalk forum? on: August 10, 2020, 02:02:57 PM
Thank you for quick answer.
I will read the rules first.

Do I have some limitations for posting and writing?

Yes there's a time limit of 360 seconds for posting as a newbie. Personal messages "messages" at the top have a limit of 1 a day I think (most people are happy using telegram or email).

You also can't post images until you become a junior member too. And posts are limited to 54000 characters afaik.

Welcome to the forum too!
3698  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: How to cancel Transaction Uniswap on: August 10, 2020, 10:39:32 AM
The foolproof system I used was sending my eth to a different address and then return it. Or do it with a token if it's a token to eth transaction but if you get rid of the fee I think the transaction will cancelled..

I sent 1000 dai somewhere, realised my mistake and sent 400 (with 1300 in the original address) the first transaction never got confirmed.
3699  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best way to avoid high transaction fee on: August 09, 2020, 11:49:52 PM
Depends on what you're using. If you're using a software wallet where you control everything like electrum and bitcoin core then you should be actively consolidating your inputs (spending your funds within the wallet) and using a low fee for this when you don't need a fast conformation.

You could try gambling on tx fee and set it slightly lower than the transaction fee and hope it confirms, nit is there a reason for the rush?ost good payment managers should offer at least 12 hours for the tx to confirm which is a good way to go about saving some funds too...
3700  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] ChipMixer.com - Bitcoin mixer / Bitcoin tumbler - mixing reinvented on: August 09, 2020, 07:20:26 PM
Does anyone know is Chipmixer Electrum plugin working ok with recent Electrum updates?
I never tried it so far and I see there are no updates from 2017.
https://github.com/chipmixer/electrum/tree/plugin/plugins/chipmixer

Afaik I think the plug in work was discontinued when ChipMixer decided to retire it
Not sure of the reasons I think they just thought it was more work than it was worth to sort out the security parts or the captcha stuff would be difficult to manage. They gave up on it to focus on the ddos attacks I think too.
