Will that power supply work with 110/120?
3682  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Announcement] Avalon ASIC Batch #1 Ships on: January 30, 2013, 09:27:20 PM
If this is true, can anyone fathom why no tracking number was not given out?
It's a letter with the tracking number in it ...

Seriously though, why would he get it without already having the tracking number?
Bazaar indeed.
Probably screw ups of the forwarder.
3683  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Facts Based Thread on: January 30, 2013, 07:19:34 PM
That would shut up 99% of us and we would say.. uh yea.. they got something there. Can I order now?
Are you sure about that?
Do you have 500ish radeon 5830s to point to a public pool to fake what would happen if they
pointed 3 of those 60 gh/s asic monsters to it?

No? hm.. kinda hard to fake such a thing. unless of course the pool operator is now in on it.
It'd be hard for the average user, but there are people who can do it. Between people running multiple BFL MRs or any other FPGAs, proxy pools, or botnets, it can be pretty accessible to direct 60GH/s to a pool for five minutes.
See, anything can be faked. And many can subsequently believe it to be faked.

Just because a few outliers may respond that way doesn't mean it reflects the majority opinion. Avalon had the best reputation of all the vendors. Recently that's been taking a tremendous beating and not without justification. Their behavior has changed dramatically since their shipping date came and went.
Lets hope the level of proof comes and some fears are put to rest. (among the sane of mind at least)

My Theory:

Avalon releases picture of a box (back end)
Response: It is a box of fans!

Avalon releases picture at a different angle.
Then releases pictures of a stat page.

Response: Kano says it looks like legitimate output and remarks on the revision number and date.
Response: Everyone else says nothing. Others say it is "FAKE!", "DOCTORED", "Photoshopped".

Jeff gets his review done after he gets the unit.
Response: Oh that nice, (4 seconds later) But this proves nothing. It only proves that it is one of two boxes. No, it is actually just one box. The REST DON'T WORK!

BitCoin Foundation gets theirs.
Response: WTF is mine!?

First 4 customers get theirs.
Response: WTF, Where are ours?! This is BS! They won't ship the rest!

Next 10 customers get theirs.
Response: Holy MF...Only 10?

Next 100 customers get theirs.
Response: Whatever, I bet they have boxes hidden somewhere and are mining with the other 200+ boards.

Last 200 customers get theirs.
Response: WTF! Where are my Batch 2 orders you SOB?

Feb 20th comes around.
Response: WTF? I bet they ran off with the money.

etc etc.

3687  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon is (unfortunately) a scam. Here is why. on: January 30, 2013, 06:38:16 PM
Avalon just wants BTC sent to an address (as far as we've been told)...which is incredibly sketchy.

Umm. Where did you read this?

Certainly Avalon will be using a payment processor like Bitpay or a similar processor. That just doesn't make since to me.
They will be using WalletBit. (Not some anonymous address)
3688  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Facts Based Thread on: January 30, 2013, 06:36:33 PM
lets see:

BFL: appeared at CES with a box of fans. has pictures of casings and LOTS of boxes of fans. pictures of hardware also, but no operational details/demos because no chips are ready yet.

AVALON: has 1 box of fans, with no confirmation of what is inside it. pictures of boards and a single questionable image of operational details from a week ago. Claims to have shipped but no tracking numbers or customers who have received.

What questionable about the image showing operational status?

Kano checked the stats and said they look okay and in line with what you would expect.
3689  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon is (unfortunately) a scam. Here is why. on: January 30, 2013, 06:30:38 PM
He's been here since Christmas Eve man! ...obviously knows everything there is to know about all the principles. Roll Eyes

Ha, I know right. There's been quite a number of defensive newbies coming around all of a sudden. Seems suspicious Wink

Or maybe we're just jaded after being here for quite some time...  Cheesy

BFL: Oh shit! They showed a screenshot!
BFL: <Wrings hands with worry>
BFL: Send in our Newbie clones! (Ala Star Wars)
Josh-Mual: We shall let our customers know of our delay in, I.N.C.R.E.M.E.N.T.S.

(Joking only)

I will most likely be headed to the fab at the end of the week to be prepared to pick up the chips next week. The broker says no later than the 8th on the chips, but most likely earlier. Even if the chips roll off the line on the 8th, it doesn't affect the timeline much. Here is the current projected timeline:

Leave for the fab ~ Feb 1st or 2nd
Acquire 6 wafers earliest Feb 4th - Latest Feb 8th
Transport wafers same day to bumping facility
2 days in bumping facility
Transport to substrate and packaging
1 - 2 days for substrate and packaging
Transport to assembly house
< 24 hours at assembly house
~1 day for chip verification/testing
Transport to Kansas City
Bulk assembly / send out demo units
Ship bulk units

Our timeline is still on target for the week of the 10th, probably towards the later part of the week. If the worst case scenario in every step comes to pass, we are looking at starting shipping around Monday the 18th. Best case scenario we will start shipping around Wednesday the 13th or Thursday the 14th. This is, of course, subject to change, but I will keep everyone updated when/if there are any changes.

Happy for the update...
And...they slipped yet again.

  • Bitcoin Only
  • No Refunds
  • No Proof
In my country I heard on the news of a 82y old Lady making telephone scams, dude she had a better plan than you.
However I will ask one question:

You admit to having so many problems, so much work, yet you still find the time to post senseless comments every few hours in this thread.
How is that possible?

I once asked the very same question of some other fine gent on this site. His answer--master at multitasking (paraphrased).
Hehe, you mean he gets paid to continue his scam?

We are talking about Rico Suave right?

I also note on the last page there are two users trying to restart the fire, both with exceptionally low post counts and very long posts. Stinks of sock puppetry.

Can you manually courier back a device on your way back to the US?  Grin I know you mentioned something like this before...but seriously. just one device to have someone demo.
Sounds like a good backup plan if Jeff doesn't get his on time!
3693  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Announcement] Avalon ASIC Batch #1 Ships on: January 29, 2013, 11:03:51 PM
I just learned from Bitsyncom that tracking numbers aren't generated until they leave mainland China [i.e. Customs]. Then it is handed off to DHL which then generates the tracking number.
That is how it works when you use an HK forwarder...
Perhaps that is the company they contracted to take care of the shipping paperwork. Customs broker of some kind or a Forwarder.

Might explain why they are sending shipment in clumps instead of FIFO.
3694  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Announcement] Avalon ASIC Batch #1 Ships on: January 29, 2013, 11:01:37 PM
 Grin

Keep in mind that customs does not work outside at sea in some barge. Chinas customs are usually at ports within China.

If you could track down what kind of package it was (electronics?) and when you actually got a tracking number that may be useful information.

can we infer that jeff's package has not left china, but bitsyncom still expects delivery around thursday? i guess it's possible. if thursday delivery, then jeff should have a tracking number by tomorrow at the latest.
I failed to ask Yifu the weight of each Avalon device. (To figure out why the paid so much for Jeffs delivery)

$400 is a pretty hefty sum of money. I suppose they must have paid extra to ensure extra quick delivery. The only way to know for sure is by posing the question to him.

Best guess, Chinas customs office is being a pain.

2) they said they would give jeff a tracking number, but haven't done that. apparently, difficulty with shipping/customs is causing problems...i agree that failure to at least address this issue is a problem.

aside from those 2 points, i think most people are annoyed with the lack of information rather than misinformation.

That cgminer status was from the 24th, if the time was set correctly.
Does the block of data tell you how many minutes or seconds the device was operating for?

Lowered the alert status to Defcon 3. phew...

Cool

Confirmed, I just received the same email.
I can confirm this as well.
