We're using Coinbase for the USD-BTC purchase about a week before the drawing. I realize the exchange rate will fluctuate, but we'll use Coinbase's standard rate at the time of the transaction.

The nice part is, the payment to the winner will be instant and there will be no bank fees

To age myself: My first BTC trade was via Dwolla - MtGox when it was trading at the $7 range. I sold at $16 and still kick myself for it!
