3701  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Freezing BitCoin addresses by regulating miners on: June 14, 2015, 02:44:49 PM
FWIW I've run into a lot of regulatory people who have pretty clear views that Bitcoin mining should be regulated such that addresses are blacklisted or even whitelisted. Obviously that's a goal, not necessarily what they'll succeed in making happen, but that's what the long-term intent is. For instance, one regulator I talked to a few months ago at a conference was *very* clear in her view that the Bitcoin protocol simply must be changed to add verified digital identities to the protocol itself, and mining blocks with transactions without valid identities and/or extending blockchains with non-compliant transactions should be an illegal activity that's prosecuted.

Very sad but not altogether unexpected. We need to resist allowing Bitcoin to become just another surveillance tool for big brother or decide to abandon the project and let corporate America have it to use as just another payment system. Giving up is easy, people need to fight very hard to keep their civil rights. I would never use it again if they passed that law.

The U.S. government is stepping on personal freedom and civil rights so much now that we are quickly becoming the very thing we fought against in WWII.

Quote
WASHINGTON (AP) — The FBI is operating a small air force with scores of low-flying planes across the country carrying video and, at times, cellphone surveillance technology — all hidden behind fictitious companies that are fronts for the government, The Associated Press has learned.

The planes' surveillance equipment is generally used without a judge's approval, and the FBI said the flights are used for specific, ongoing investigations. The FBI said it uses front companies to protect the safety of the pilots and aircraft. It also shields the identity of the aircraft so that observers on the ground don't know they're being watched by the FBI.

In a recent 30-day period, the agency flew above more than 72 cities in 38 states across the country, an AP review found.

I have a degree of 'trust' in Coinbase insofar as I don't think they will rip me off.  That mostly because I could at least make a credible stab at suing their asses off and they have deep-ish pockets complements of various angel investors and such.

Anyone who has been paying attention and who is modestly knowledgeable about things should have no surprises that they have their entire heads completely within the sphincter of the Feds.  It is entirely expected and I don't hold it against them at all.  In some ways it is actually why I chose to use them.

I predicted many times that the business model Coinbase is going for is to spy on schools of minnows and sell out to a bank or tech giant at the most opportune time.  Larger early-ish adopter types are a distinct liability for this reasons.  I've not done a transaction through them for a year, but even back then they were getting antsy.  And I'm hardly a big fish compared to genuine early adopters I don't imagine.  When they interrogated me I offered that they should have the technical prowess to validate that my BTC came from Tradehill.  That seemed to have gotten them off my back but I expect I'll be shut down if/when I do any more activity of any consequence.  I think I remember Greg Maxwell himself mentioning that they shut him down.  Amazing.  Probably one would have to be a big investor in their company to do any volume through them at this point.

If you're going to go through the same miserable process you deal with using fiat then explain to me why I should use Bitcoin? People should reward exchanges and businesses like BTCe that provide good service and are beholding to no one and shun businesses that act like a branch of the government like Coinbase. Perhaps Bitcoin shouldn't be used by people in the American nanny state. Maybe a new coin for them called Americoin. They can build it with blacklisting, tracking, Americoin gps locator apps from a certified App Store, direct reporting of your daily expenditures to the IRS, coins that vaporize if you use them at an unapproved business, etc.

Why use Bitcoin instead? Instant, irreversible transfers. The anonymity has nothing to do with it for me. It's the ability to pay people without losing huge chunks due to fees. Send $10 in PayPal? That's like $1 in fees. Same in Bitcoin? Two cents. Sending $100 in PayPal? That's $5.30 or so in fees. Bitcoin? Still two cents.

Someone pays me in PayPal? They get pissed off down the road and do a chargeback. Someone pays me in Bitcoin? It's mine.

You should try Amazon Payments then. It's totally free to send money and easier to use than Bitcoin. I've always wondered why so many people use PayPal when there's free services available. Maybe it's for convenience or the fraud protection or something.

If you have a family member or friend that you send money to or get money from regularly then both of you open accounts at the same bank. I send my daughter money all the time by transferring it from my account to hers and she lives across the country and the transfer is totally free.

Bitcoin is all about the non-traceable transfer of value between individuals. Everything else can be done another way.

Terrorism is what I feel when a cop stops me for speeding and walks up to my car with his hand on his gun. Every time this happens I cross my fingers that he hasn't had a bad day and decides to shoot me instead of giving me a ticket.

That's not terrorism. You were pulled over so many time, yet you still remain in one piece. Plus you admitted yourself that you were speeding. Thank America that you only got some tickets. If ISIS pulls you over for speeding, they will cut off your hands. Actually they will not pull you over. They will just spray bullets to your car and you and your car will be looked like swiss cheese. Wach PBS documentary from below link and you will see.
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/rise-of-isis/

Yeah man, just because society has rules and enforces them, that's not terrorizing you.  A cop has every right to keep his hand on his service revolver--it's a dangerous job.  I'd rather deal with a police officer, whom I respect, than some religiously delusional Muslim terrorist any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Now then, can I get some bitcoin.

Obviously we don't live in the same neighborhood. Cops have killed lots of people in California. We have a riot because of a bad shooting every couple of years. I just think cops have way too much discretion for people carrying a gun.

In my post, I compared a cop to a delusional sky-daddy-loving Islamic Muhammed-fucker and I stand by what I said.  No offense meant to Muslims.

No doubt there are bad shootings but this is the price we pay to have police carry weapons.  Can you imagine if police in the US didn't carry guns?  Criminals would be having high carnival in California.

Britain, Ireland, Norway, Iceland and New Zealand, officers are unarmed when they are on patrol. Police are only equipped with firearms in special circumstances. It's a strategy that seems to work surprisingly well for these countries. Police officers there have saved lives because they were unable to shoot.

In Iceland, one third of all citizens are armed but police officers are not most of the time.

There's lots of sites that you can use that don't have age verification.

Here's two of them:
http://www.xnxx.com
http://www.youporn.com

Those sites doesn't require a payment to see the videos. They are free sites. I am talking about websites which accept payments from its users. It is mandatory for such sites to ask for age verification. Normally, if we make our payments with credit cards, the age verification is not required. But if we are using an anonymous payment method, it might be necessary.

You're right but you should never pay for porn anyway. There's too much of it available for free.

Most of my friends are content to be bums. They don't really think about the future.

With a friend named after a global pandemic do you blame them?

if an AI tries to modify the past, it should be discreet and try to impersonate a human.
Maybe like you ? I suggest you are a computer AI also.
Okay here we go, I'm going to suggest everyone after this post to ignore OP.
I repeat, ignore the OP.

Trolling used to be an art, now it is just becoming annoying as everyone is trying to be funny.

Is it just me or did others find the quoted post funny?

Yeah, I did.

Everyone should stop having a personality immediately, shove a bug up your ass and swallow the encyclopedia bitcoinica.

It can be anonymous for new users of porn.

As already mentioned in this thread many times, porn users can't remain anonymous. You have to show that you are above the age of 18, to get subscription to these websites. If you are using an anonymous payment option such as Bitcoin, you might need to give some other identification, such as your social security number.
I am sure this can one of the reasons why these websites do not accept bitcoin yet. they have to obey the law and if they use bitcoin, there might be minors registering in their website which is illegal.

There's lots of sites that you can use that don't have age verification.

Nah Jesus was just skating on ice and people decided it was water.  Did you not know that Jesus was a hockey player??

It's walking on water? Does that mean it's Jesus?
Did you know that Jesus was against premarital sex so instead he anally fucked your mother (since it wasnt vaginal intercourse as defined by the bible)?

Did you know that I caught Jesus fucking my daughter after he mowed my lawn?

Again, does a bear shit in the woods?
Am I not doing it right?

3718  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Silk Road Founder Ross Ulbricht Sentenced to Life in Prison on: June 11, 2015, 04:28:59 PM

Successful prison breaks happen only in movies. So I am a little bit skeptical. But at the current rate of drug legalization (just look at Portugal and Uruguay) around the world, I hope that within 10-15 years, the United States will start legalizing the soft drugs such as weed and shrooms. Still, that doesn't guarentee his release, as he is accused of other crimes as well.

The drug thing is just a part of his impressive charges.

According to this http://www.takepart.com/article/2013/01/02/no-relief-convicted

The US is one of the few places that doesn't tend to take future law changes into account with convicts. The law at the time remains the law for them.

If he was convicted at state level there might be more wiggle room.

That's right, the United States is the one of the only countries in the world without retroactive ameliorative relief. The U.S. is also the only country in the world that in practice sentences juveniles to life. You better be a perfect model citizen and very lucky or you will be punished by one of the most harsh criminal justice systems in the world. What I mean by lucky is, if you walk into a party and there's a pile of marijuana on a table and people are snorting something - run as fast as possible. If they raid that party you could be convicted along with everyone else even if you're not high. If they make the drugs legal in that state later too bad for you. You still aren't getting out of prison.
