3721  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: 15% discount on Trezor hardware wallets on: October 29, 2022, 12:02:39 PM
I haven't followed how much the price of the T model has changed since it appeared on the market, but it costs about $130 more than the Ledger X that I bought in 2019.
After some quick research using Wayback Machine, I managed to gather some data.

The Model T was released in February 2018.
- An achieve from June 2018 shows a price of €149.
- A second achieve from November 2019 shows the same price.
- In December 2020, the price was up to €180.
- In October 2021, an achieve shows €164. So, the price went down for some reason.
- And the last one I checked was April 2022 with a price of €249.

I do not know why the images are no longer available in the original post, but anyone can find them in the archived version:
Could be a number of reasons:
  • The service or the account where they were originally hosted is no longer available. The link says "dropboxusercontent.com". Maybe it's an older version of Dropbox.
  • The images are still there, but the links have changed. bitboy never posted the new ones.
  • The forum no longer allows images from that particular source similarly to how some other image hosts no longer work on Bitcointalk.
3723  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to guide a 10year old on the blockchain journey? on: October 29, 2022, 09:14:29 AM
I have to agree with what Lafu and some others said. He is still 10 years old. No matter how smart or computer-proficient he is, all this could be too much for him at that age. You are not just introducing him to bitcoin and crypto, and the learning process ends there. He has to learn about cybersecurity, online safety, how to recognize and avoid hacks, scams, social engineering techniques, how to keep his coins safe. Kids learn that if they make a mistake, mummy and daddy are there to correct it. That doesn't apply to Bitcoin. If you make a mistake, your money could be gone forever.

Kids are innocent in their way of thinking and seeing the world. They are full of love and trust. I don't think your kid's brain is evolved to a stage where he can understand the various ways someone could attempt to take advantage of him. And he simply doesn't have the life experience to guide him in the right direction.

Educational videos about Bitcoin are a good start. You can watch them together and based on his reactions, you will be able to understand if that is something he likes and feels attracted to. Or if he doesn't care or can't focus on the content.

Maybe tell his parents to buy him a hardware wallet...
I am pretty sure it's OP's kid because he said:

I have a very smart kid who knows way too much about computer software and hardware...
3724  Other / Meta / Re: Question About Report to moderator on: October 29, 2022, 08:54:32 AM
Why are some of you too serious about reporting and it's stats? LOL

My reporting accuracy is 89%.
I love how the forum keeps these records. My stats, for example, show that I have 1 bad report and 8 unhandled ones. Yet, my reporting accuracy is 100%. Grin I don't report that much. But imagine you watch a news report about a highway accident involving dozens of cars. 1 driver was killed, which means that 100% of them made it home sound and safe.
3725  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do You Want KYC at Crypto Casinos During Registration? on: October 29, 2022, 08:40:14 AM
Why should it sound good?
Because if you know there is a need to go through KYC as soon as you register, you can turn your back to that casino and go elsewhere if you don't want to do it. It's clarity and transparency from the start compared to being welcomed in and allowed to deposit and gamble, and then you get asked for KYC if you want to withdraw money from your account.

the best way is to get a KYC free casino to use for your gambling experience
That's easier said than done. If you know one that operates in such a way, go and take a look at their terms and read them thoroughly. You will probably discover they have the right to ask you for KYC whenever they want. The list of crypto casino that aren't going to do that is only going to get shorter in the future.

Always make sure to watermark your photos. This procedure will help to make your data unusable when casino databases are compromised.
This is the first time I am hearing someone suggest this. I have never given it any thought, but it's something worth remembering.
3726  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: 15% discount on Trezor hardware wallets on: October 29, 2022, 08:24:42 AM
Some of us here don't consider the "secure element" an improvement but just the opposite.  Sure in theory SECURE sounds great, but that comes with closed source and users having to trust what is going on inside the element all beyond our scrutiny.
The secure elements we find in today's hardware wallets are closed-source, but Trezor and their partners are trying to change that. I guess they realized early on that 100% open-source isn't going to be possible, so the wording they used in some of their public announcements was "as open-source as possible". It's going to be interesting to see how Wallet Scrutiny and other parties classify the new type of wallets once they eventually come out.
3727  Economy / Gambling / Re: [Table] Withdrawal Fees and Withdrawal Amounts on Crypto Casinos on: October 29, 2022, 08:17:09 AM
I agree that Primedice is a really good casino and I play in it now. But the first casino I started playing was fairspin and it is a very decent, I think it should be in the top 20
Be advised though that this is not a top list of casinos ranked from best to worst. The choice which gambling platform you want to trust with your money should be yours alone after conducting thorough research. I am also not sure who you are agreeing with since I never praised or criticized Primedice in this thread.
3728  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it important to have a niche in this forum or not on: October 28, 2022, 09:08:27 AM
Apart from the beginners& help section, is there any other board or childboard you could recommend for a newbie?
Don't limit yourself in that way when the forum and its administration haven't restricted your from browsing all subs except for a few less important sections. Start at the top and make your way down. Every sub has a few explanatory sentences about the type of discussions you can expect to find there. Read those and consider if that is something that seems interesting to you. If not, find something else.

That's the best way to understand what this forum has to offer, unless you have a clear idea in your mind of what you want to do here. If that's the case, speak up so we can provide more info.
3729  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Some coins or a hardware wallet? on: October 28, 2022, 08:44:07 AM
If your uncle likes coins like DOGE or SHIBA, he is considering the wrong features when deciding what cryptocurrencies to use. I am not sure what your own preferences are, but if you understand the benefits that Bitcoin offers (not talking about price action and possible future percentage gains), I would try to pass that information on to my uncle to help him see things differently.

What drew him to meme coins exactly? The jokes, the cute dog logos, Musk the manipulator?
I would talk to him about how many altcoins have died in the last decade, and that many don't have a reason to exist except for making a small circle of people rich. Mention Terra and Luna as the most recent examples of how something that looks good at the surface becomes rotten quickly. Check and see how feels about bitcoin, and then decide if that's something you want to get him. You can't and shouldn't force bitcoin on someone if that person has other interests and reasons why they got interested in crypto.
3730  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: what happens to bitcoin if the electricity and internet goes out.? on: October 28, 2022, 08:21:27 AM
It's funny how people worry about how they are going to transact bitcoin in case of a worldwide electricity and internet outage. Worry about having enough ammunition for your shotgun before the looting starts. The world will come to a halt, and your main concerns will be finding enough food and clean drinking water so you and your family don't starve. If such conditions were to last, many wouldn't make it simply because we aren't used to it.
3731  Other / Meta / Re: Question About Report to moderator on: October 28, 2022, 07:50:13 AM
As far as I know, if you report a topic and the topic is moved to another board, the moderator must select the status (bad or good) manually. So, it's not that your report would be definitely marked as good. That depends on the moderators' decision.
That's a good report if you ask me. By reporting a thread to be moved, what you are saying is this thread doesn't belong in this sub. Please take a look at it and consider moving it to sub X. The fact alone that you are correct and the discussion doesn't belong there should be enough for your report to be marked as 'good'. Maybe you were wrong about the final destination, and that decision in on the moderator, but you were right about where it doesn't belong.
3732  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do You Think Bitcoin Mining Will Be Banned Due to Fears of Climate Change? on: October 28, 2022, 07:11:35 AM
The fact is, irrespective that we all like what bitcoin has to offers i.e making transaction anonymous...
It's worth remembering that satoshi never talked about Bitcoin being an anonymous digital currency. The whitepaper discusses the features of a P2P digital currency for online payments. Bitcoin's use of a public ledger and transaction data that involves exact amounts being sent, sender, and receiver addresses doesn't make the asset anonymous. It would be if none of that is stored on the blockchain.

It's private in the sense that the blockchain isn't showing this is John who is sending to Peter. But Bitcoin can be private, but you can't make many mistakes while using it. Running your own node is completely different from using SPV clients operated by unknown individuals who can see your IP addresses and wallet addresses. Using TOR to obfuscate your identity is different from using clearnet or Chrome. Not feeding your addresses in blockchain explorers is different from doing it. Cold wallet, offline signing, coin mixing, etc., etc.
3733  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do You Want KYC at Crypto Casinos During Registration? on: October 28, 2022, 06:56:19 AM
Do we have any options to avoid KYC or not face this disgusting situation offered by the casino in case we win big amounts  Huh
No, not really. The terms are rarely in the player's favor. By accepting them (something you have to do when registering an account), you agree that the casino has the right to make enquiries and request that you verify yourself. They condition you by freezing your balance until you have done what they want you to.

You only have a chance against them if you manage to find a term in their rules that allows you to reject KYC requests without them having the right to confiscate or freeze your money. That, together with community pressure and negative press could be enough to change their mind.
3734  Other / Meta / Re: I want to advertise on Bitcointalk forums on: October 27, 2022, 06:50:04 PM
Gaming, NFTs, and the Metaverse. Other users have already suggested signature campaigns or altcoin bounty campaigns as possible ways to advertise, so no reason to go over that again.

Let me suggest a different route. This is surely even more expensive, but if the goal is to get people interested, you are going to need as many eyes as possible. How about purchasing an ad spot on a crypto news site that has some reach? Maybe even a guest post (if that's the appropriate term) or a review of what you are developing.

Is it expensive? Sure, it probably is. But if you are confident that you have a quality product that only needs a push and some marketing to get the message out there, why spare the money?
3735  Other / Meta / Re: Abolish the Merit system and bounty threads on: October 27, 2022, 06:15:26 PM
The whole OP seems like it was written by a person who was drunk and angry at the world at the time.

99% of the posts are from bounty hunter spammers
Are you talking about all users who wear signatures or are you singling out only those that belong to altcoin campaigns? I would say it depends where you post and what you read. I don't see bounty hunter spammers in the sections I am active in, and that's in discussions about Bitcoin. I don't go near the altcoin boards anymore, and I agree with you that part of the forum is a disaster.

Too many Legendary accounts!
There seem to be hundreds of legendary accounts and they have all got there through some sort of merit cartel as far as I can see. just spam enough pointless repetitive posts to get to legendary status?
Except it doesn't work that way. That's how it was in the past, before the merit system was introduced. You rose in rank just with posts and activity. But now you need to add merits in the mixture. And unless you contribute to the forum, you won't be earning merits.

Back when I first started reading, legendary status used to mean something, it meant that poster had something useful to contribute.
Not necessarily. It could also have meant that the person posted a big amount of posts but without any quality at all. Now, other people need to like and appreciate your contributions for you to rank up. Quantity alone won't get you far.

The thing that grinds my gears the most is that there are legendary accounts with a join date of less than a year ago, and here's my account which is operated by a normal user, who has contributed to actual discussion about actual real issues since 2015 with a Senior member level LOL!
It takes more then a year to become legendary if you are active during every activity period. Try 2 years. You are a senior member because you weren't active enough in the old days to rank up when it was easier. And since the merit system was introduced, you are also lacking the needed merits.

the site admin should abolish all this corrupt nonsense and just have ads, that means its a level playing field and no corruption.
This has got nothing to do with your rank, the rank of others, or how the merit system works. What you are saying here is that the merit system doesn't work and it results in too many members ranking up too fast. So, do you think it's better to go back to the old ways when you didn't need any merits at all, and all you needed was a large enough post count that no one needed to read or appreciate in any way? Don't you see the lack of logic there? You want to get rid of a system where it's harder to rank up to reinstate one where it's easier to rank up, so that the forum would have less legendary members. Huh
3736  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do You Think Bitcoin Mining Will Be Banned Due to Fears of Climate Change? on: October 27, 2022, 02:00:59 PM
On the second option of the poll, maybe you mean mining will be less in demand after it?
I meant to say that it could become harder to acquire the proper permissions and licenses to begin or keep running a mining company. If you are the government, and you can't shut down a business because they haven't done anything illegal, so you have no basis to justify your actions, there are other ways to make life harder for them. Send your inspection dogs to pester them and fine them for various mistakes. Inspection officers are like teachers. If they want to fail you, they will find questions you don't know the answers to. Increasing taxes and fees are also methods to force people to reconsider if they should be involved with mining and is it affordable.
3737  Local / Off-topic (Hrvatski) / Re: Kutak za kulturni trenutak on: October 27, 2022, 01:45:45 PM

3738  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Moonbet.io took all my funds, closed my account and ignores me on: October 27, 2022, 12:58:03 PM
The player's account has been opened and he can withdrawal all funds that were both deposited and won in Moonbet.io.
Good. Hopefully LeslieGray will stop by and confirm this.

To be clear, the player did NOT win thousands of dollars betting in Moonbet as originally claimed. He did however have a balance which he was wrongfully unable to withdraw over the past several days.
The original claim that can still be seen in the OP is that the player tried to withdraw 3.500 USDT and couldn't do it. So the amount was actually much less then that?

Unfortunately, limiting or refusing players can occassionally occur in the world of sports betting. While we never enjoy taking such actions, in cases where players engage in syndicate betting, arbitrage, and other tactics which are frowned upon by operators, we must do so to protect our business.
That's understandable and it's the right choice. Attempts to cheat and abuse the system need to be penalized appropriately to divert other users to attempt similar schemes. But when that is not the case, that creates problems like we saw in this example that's hopefully now a thing of the past.
3739  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Moonbet.io took all my funds, closed my account and ignores me on: October 27, 2022, 12:15:24 PM
<Snip>
So far so good. It's a positive thing that you agree that banning a player and taking his fairly won coins isn't the way to go. Your casino also means you get to make the rules about who is allowed to play there and who isn't. Limitations are generally not welcome as they send the wrong signals and saying we don't appreciate successful gamblers who win. But like I said, that's your choice, and if the players don't like it, they can take their business elsewhere. I have a good feeling that this will end well.
3740  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: 15% discount on Trezor hardware wallets on: October 27, 2022, 12:03:02 PM
Maybe upgrading Trezor One with bigger memory (like in model T) would be better option to keep it alive, affordable and functional in future.
That wouldn't be bad since the old Trezor model doesn't have the hardware strength to cope with certain coins and can't support them. But a hardware upgrade would certainly affect the price, which could then go above €100 maybe.

There is nothing wrong with cooperation with btcdirect, but as I understand it only brings "buy" option inside the application. I would prefer to see a better conditions for Trezor users (spread). Otherwise why not to buy from them directly?
I am sure Trezor takes a cut in some way. I remember when Ledger introduced a similar partnership with a crypto company and we compared the rates offered through Ledger Live against what was offered on the official site. The spread was always worse in Ledger Live for the exact same trading pair compared to what you could get on the official exchange. These kind of partnerships are about additional revenue for the manufacturers after all.
