3721  Economy / Economics / Re: Why is the Chinese mentality so risky? on: July 15, 2015, 02:36:04 PM
The chinese have a lot of superstitions, I find it specially amusing that they liked the idea of Gavin Andersen on the 8MB increase every 2 years only because the number 8 means something like "good luck" or "good future" for the chinese. I mean cmon, can they at least make a better argument? lol. Anyway, I like the idea as well, but not because of that only. Meanwhile the chinese seem to really put a lot of importance into those things.
3722  Economy / Economics / Re: Is bitcoin dead? on: July 15, 2015, 02:33:46 PM
Bitcoin is so dead right now that backpage.com is moving to use bitcoin just beacuse is dead, on the real note backpage has a monthly revenue of almost 3 million usd in revenue will this bring a complete new wave of adoption of its users?

Yeah I saw this yesterday. And not only that, they gave a big middle finger to Visa and Mastercard and basically fiat and they will be going Bitcoin exclusive soon. This is only the beginning.
3723  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Suggestion: improve management of recieving and sending addresses on: July 15, 2015, 02:32:14 PM
Right now it's too simple and a bit messy. I would like to be able to create groups and have them nicely ordered, instead of a raw list that can get ordered by alphanumerical order at best without any possible ways to separate them.
Also, add a key shortcut to pop up the receiving/sending addresses window (f4 for receiving window f5 for sending, would be really useful, it's annoying to click everytime).
3724  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Future Forks.. on: July 15, 2015, 02:27:16 PM
Good point Amph, but the advent of quantum computers does not break SHA256.. although it 'may' mean having to switch to a 512 bit algo, and as you say, this would be VERY hard to fork. (Due to the fact that QCs make it easier to brute force)

Quantum computers will break ECDSA, and any algorithm based on factorisation.

So the 'signing' algo, not the 'mining' algo, will need to be changed..

Consider this: If the NSA or whatever breaks SHA256, they would be breaking most of the banking infraestructures as well, which also work under SHA256 encryptions. If SHA256 gets broken, Bitcoin would be the least of their worries, since their own system would collapse unless they update it before they announce it,  and when they start updating their stuff Bitcoin devs would notice and update Bitcoin as well with another algo.
3725  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation funds Bitsoko, promotes BTC literacy in Kenya on: July 15, 2015, 02:25:10 PM
http://www.coinfox.info/news/2408-bitsoko

Seems like Bill Gates finally went from "Bitcoin is good, but not good enough" to fully embracing it. Im glad people slowly come to their senses and deal with the fact Bitcoin is indeed good enough.

That doesn't mean he changed his opinion on the subject. When he said that he certainly meant it's not good for the future, as in, it's not certain Bitcoin will be as useful as it is now in 50 years. Otherwise Microsoft wouldn't probably accept Bitcoin Tongue

As for the news, always good when poor, isolated people are empowered in many different ways.

Well who the hell knows what will be useful in 50 years. Also, has he even proposed a better solution than what Bitcoin offers? I dont think so, therefore Bitcoin is good enough and when he said "it isn't good enough" he was wrong.
3726  Economy / Speculation / Re: Logical reason that Bitcoin will go down to USD 0 on: July 10, 2015, 07:25:19 PM
Every day that passes where it maintains value or doesn't go to zero just makes zero that much less likely.  I find 0 far less probable than I did two years ago, or a year before that.

It is indeed like the blockchain: each day that new transactions pile up on the blockchain, the safer former transactions are.
Similarly, everyday Bitcoin survives, the more resilient it becomes.
Once we cross the psychological barrier of 1000 USD per BTC, sky is literally the limit. All the auto-impossed pessimistic mental limitations and barriers will over. 5 to 6 figures per BTC will ensue in the future.
3727  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin to 1200$? And LTC to 40$? on: July 10, 2015, 07:10:15 PM
Someone saw MetaTrader4 Signals?
look here: [Suspicious link removed]

hope this is true!

BTC will go through several bubble and burst cycles each ATH being higer than the later. Now, LTC.. it's another history. The market is too small, the innovation is not there, the merchant adoption is not there... LTC seems like something that would follow BTC movements but prone to being dumped at any second. If BTC is a gamble, LTC is a blindfolded gamble.
3728  Economy / Speculation / Re: NEXT 48H ARE CRITICAL!!!!!!!! on: July 10, 2015, 07:08:22 PM
If we break $300 we will most likely get pumped to $500 or moon.
If we do not we will stay in this 220-300 zone till the halving or some breaking news.

Why is this 300 wall so important? Just seems like humans giving more value to round numbers than something like 297.. or maybe 303..

That is exactly what it is: a psychological barrier.
Thats why sometimes we peak at 299 and go down, because people put their orders thinking "300 is a round number"...

Once that number is lost, a new mental ceiling is set, until that ceiling is broken again. Sometimes those ceilings get broken in a row, also know as Moon or panic buying.
3729  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Its time to jump ship w/ this BULLSHIT GOING ON!!! FUCK YOU CHINESE POOLS! on: July 10, 2015, 07:06:15 PM
This thread is extremely racist. Blocks with 1 transaction have been around forever, and it's certainly not the fault of the Chinese.

China has most of the world's hash power, so they mine more 1 transaction blocks. The racist idiots here don't realize China is actually securing the network and it's best not to scare them away.

I agree with the racist remarks. If they left tho, someone out there would take their place, remember that this is a self regulated system, if you leave, difficulty goes down, and the next guy gets the profit.
3730  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The attack on the network is not hostile on: July 10, 2015, 06:42:06 PM
It should be clear to everyone by now that the attacker means us no harm.
Its been 5 days now and the transaction back log has leveled off between 40k and 50k.
It is clear the intention of this (ongoing) attack is to increase transaction fees.
If the top mining pools are behind this they might even be turning a profit.

EDIT to help others understand:

If they wanted to inflict damage, real damage they could have sent all that spam at once.
If this was just a "statement about block size" Then the attacker has failed; thus the attacker would ether give up or increase the rate of spam.

How has the attacker failed? we have tons of people here complaining about transaction taking ages, if anything it proves we need blocksize increase and LN as well.
3731  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Its time to jump ship w/ this BULLSHIT GOING ON!!! FUCK YOU CHINESE POOLS! on: July 10, 2015, 06:32:03 PM
You folks all realize that Coblee fixed this issue in Litecoin years ago, and advised Bitcoin devs that this was a problem. They didn't listen.

Hate to say this, but Litecoin is now the standby alternative if btc doesn't get it's act together.

People has been repeating a million times now why the devs haven't included yet the LTC fix, even cobble made a reddit post about it, yet I haven't seen any dev addressing this in here. Did gmaxwell say anything about this?
This should be a quick fix that doesn't need any fork or anything fancy, just a software update.

3732  Other / Off-topic / Why some QR codes look different? on: July 10, 2015, 06:25:39 PM
I just realized something when i was browsing iamsatoshi.com.

This is their donation address:

http://www.iamsatoshi.com/

https://blockchain.info/address/1CYnbah4Ce7nyjmi8JWUBLXj51XQUHA8UV

And this is a random address of blockchain.info

Why are they so different? they are both regular bitcoin addresses as far as I know, yet their QR codes look like they arent the same format or something.

edit: i cant directly post the pics for some reason, just browse down in http://www.iamsatoshi.com/
to see the donation address on the right
3733  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is now preferred to fiat on the street on: July 09, 2015, 09:23:40 PM
I dont know a single person in real life that has even heard about BTC. I think it's still a tiny amount of people. Once we go mainstream black swan will happen along with an insane price per BTC, but we are still a decade away from that at least. We are still mega pioneer geeks foreseeing the future.
3734  Economy / Economics / Re: If banks start to talk about Bitcoin ... on: July 09, 2015, 09:17:07 PM
and specially, the BIG RESET is this year : http://waldenlabs.com/the-big-reset/
others people can heard "nWo" instead of big-reset ...  Roll Eyes

It's too soon. The "big reset" may take 1 decade+, and Bitcoin will be a major player, the price of 1 Bitcoin by that time will be insane, our brains are simply not ready to process right now, we are not biologically wired to fathom some technological advancement disrupting the foundations of traditional banking.
3735  Economy / Economics / Re: Why PEOPLE are so dumb ? (Greek Paypal/Banks closed) on: July 09, 2015, 09:09:46 PM
I wont never sell something with zero confirmation...
but maybe you're right,  thanks for your point of view
You already do. Bank wires take days of confirmation, credit card transactions take 180 days of confirmation, but it seems like you have no idea how the underlying protocols work (like most people). Similarly, in the future people will not have any idea about confirmation times with Bitcoin, they will just asume that the instant transaction is safe.
3736  Economy / Economics / Re: Free Candy Bar or a 10 oz Silver Bar? Hmmmm, let me think! on: July 09, 2015, 09:02:57 PM
You must be kidding me right?  Candy bar are 2.6 oz and Silver Bar are 10 oz, so considering price of Silver I could sell easily last one and buy more than 10  candy bars...... Cheesy

This. I don't know whats the point. Even if you holded the candy bar until a candy bar bubble happened, by the time it happens the candy bar you hold would be out of date of consunmtion therefore rendered useless, while silver will still be valuable.
3737  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A thought... on: July 09, 2015, 08:59:30 PM
that's the point of this test, because bitcoin can't handle this, and we can't reach mainstream with the current TX limit, mainstream is far worse than just 150 tx per second, far far worse, the tx spam that you're seeing right now is nothing in comaprison, a big joke....

take a look at the TX volume of Visa for example, this is what we call mainstream

BTC will never EVER have the same TX volume as Visa. Why? because BTC will be a token for the largest financial ledger of the world. ppl wont use BTC to buy coffee. They use it to buy a house, pay tuition or simply hedge against other financial vehicle

You are assuming a lot of things. In the future people may get tired of government control and they may start using it. Also you aren't considering that it will be all over the world. All over the world transactions could easily match Visa's. And trust me it will scale up to anything that's needed.
3738  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Those with an incentive to attack the bitcoin network on: July 09, 2015, 08:54:51 PM
Such attacks cost money, and while they may disrupt the network temporarily, it does not hurt the network for long. I doubt they will keep it up because it serves no ones interest. Even an entity that wants to crush bitcoin can only suppress it a bit as long as they keep paying. What can they do? Pay forever?
For a wealthy individual with an agenda the ongoing attack is chump change. We need to strengthen the network before a disgrace happens. They could keep the attack going for as long as they want, whoever is doing this is definitely a millonaire with money to waste.
3739  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We ARE under attack.. we NEED to act... on: July 09, 2015, 08:48:39 PM

It would be interesting to hear the reason why bitcoin developers turned down Lee's pull request to include litecoin's solution to the spam problem three years ago...

He probably didn't had enough consensus. I don't know what the f** are they talking about to implement it along with a blocksize increase. What sort of catastrophe is needed for us to wake up?
3740  Economy / Economics / Re: TAXATION IN NYS on: July 07, 2015, 09:32:27 PM
if you do not convert them there should not be any problem with tax, you do not declare anything

i doubt there is any country that is taxing bitcoin directly

But he won a lot of money. If he wants to buy something nice like a bike or a car (let alone a property), he will raise alarms and get investigated, so unless you want your bitcoins to buy beermoney stuff (small purchases) you'll end up forced to get it taxed.
