3721  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTS] Modminer Quad (MMQ) - 3/4 cards working : 630MHash on: August 29, 2013, 03:36:40 AM
Title says it all I have a mod miner quad unit that has all 4 cards, but 1 simply does not work, so it effectively mines only 3/4 the full 840Mhash design spec. 30w power draw.

Looking for some offers or ideas, as I hope the spartan-6 FPGA chips may have value beyond bitcoin alone. 2.25BTC or best offer?

Shipping is 0.25BTC in Canada, 0.50BTC international
3722  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Which USB hub to use with Block Erupters or K1? A List. on: August 28, 2013, 12:22:31 AM
just wanted to check out a concept i had, and see if theres any issues or safety concerns that it may create:

to power 4 7-port USB hubs (the generic ones seen all through the thread), you need, up to 28*0.5A = 14A

components in step form:

1) molex cable, take the 5V and ground to connect to:
2) a solderless barrel-jack (5.5mm) adapter. these are all over ebay and have some working reports in this thread
3) a 1-to-4 barrel jack splitter for 5.5mm (this is my biggest concern for thin wires or low quality china manufacture)

A decent (>500w) PSU could easily run 25-50A on the 5V circuit, so that is not the limitation. My concern is simply that the components mentioned (specifically the 1-to-4 adapter) cannot handle more than 2 hubs worth of power (7A), but id like a few opinions on this from experienced modders.

also, anything to be wary of regarding polarity? The barreljack i ordered has the +/- marked, but ive heard some hubs can flip these in thier deign for no good reason
3723  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Block Eupter USB August batch update on: August 26, 2013, 05:46:59 PM
once i can get 5/1.00BTC, i am all over these! I know they will never make back more than half thier cost if lucky, but they are beautiful, collectible, and have some resale value for all the above.

however, at the current price you will never get more than 30% of the price back
3724  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Bitfury ASIC sales in EU and Europe on: August 26, 2013, 05:22:24 PM
^sounds good, was actually hoping the boards would be shipped by now, but who isnt?!

is 24hrs really needed to determine the board quality? I would imagine 6hrs to be more than sufficient to get a few thousand accepted shares and see whats going on.
3725  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Bitfury ASIC sales in EU and Europe on: August 26, 2013, 03:44:01 PM
any news ... about the august delivery?  Wink

Why do you ask, when the answer is in the previous message?

because at this point, it would be nice (and/or comforting) to get regular updates every day, or even a few per day if things are moving well.

during the next 3-10 days, we should be seeing all of these various announcements:

- H-boards arrive in US/UK
- pictures of assembly
- final word on m-board revisions that are to ship
- perhaps a better 2nd shipping option that is 25 < $ < 199
- shipping timeframe
- glory pictures of many THash in orders at various assembly points

I am sure that the lack of updates could mean they are focusing on timeframe and getting these out the door rather then focus on internet gossip and minor updates, but i'd love to know if i can start getting excited to see my order marked 'shipped' today, this week, next week, or in two weeks(tm)

Also captured for posterity. Post contains no content except denials so:

If you have ordered from ButterFly Labs and have not yet received your product, you are entitled to a refund whenever you request one (per FTC rules).
First ask ButterFly Labs for a refund, they will probably say no but you might get lucky.
If you ordered via PayPal you can file a complaint with them even if you are outside the 45 day window. Multiple customers have already gotten a refund from PayPal that was outside the 45 days.
If you ordered via Bitcoin or Bank wire, you can fill out a complaint with the FTC at  http://www.ftc.gov/complaint and they will advocate for you with ButterFly Labs to get your refund. You can also contact the office of the Kansas Attorney General and inform them that you have had your money taken with no product delivered for months, just more promises.
You can also do a paper filing with the DA here: http://da.jocogov.org/complaint-forms

There are also several threads on how to get a refund from ButterFly Labs, here are two:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=266945.0
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=272585.0

cool down the threadjacking, BFL refunds are a totally different topic for one of 100 other threads

my 0.02btc : the new erupters look really cool, and i actually kind of want one Smiley  at least once they drop to 0.2BTC
3727  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: www.bitcoinza.com - BitFury Asic Units! on: August 26, 2013, 03:13:06 AM
Very conservative network growth estimate you used; their default estimate would seem more realistic over the next 6 months... A little shady putting this up here.

+1

the default network increase is roughly 50% higher then your 'calculation'
3728  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] US/North American Bitfury sales now open ***full prototype pics*** on: August 23, 2013, 09:41:14 PM
okay, thanks for the answer my second half of the question is whether it is safe to run a PSU for only a starter unit? Do i need a 5V dummy oad or any other sort of load to ensure the unit doesnt kill itself? its 730W
3729  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] US/North American Bitfury sales now open ***full prototype pics*** on: August 23, 2013, 08:30:05 PM
Waiting to get the first ship notification from the factory...they should have some boards ready by now...

Power adapters for your ATX PSU's are also in production - they should be ready early next week.  All you will need to hook up your rigs is a standard ATX PSU - (boards will take about 330w running full steam).  Raspberry Pi  w/formatted SD card will be provided, including the latest mining code.  Make sure and have at least a house fan or something to move the air through the cards - it doesn't have to be a pro solution.

Oh, and an internet connection Tongue

Hi Dave,

Do you still see any chances to ship M-boards v2.2 for the first batch of August orders? Are there any benefits of that board compared to v1 other than not requiring the custom power adapters?

my biggest 'concern' is am i going to require PCI-e power cables, or will you be sending the earlier m-boards that will run off a molex?
3730  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Bitfury is looking for alpha-testers of first chips! FREE MONEY HERE! on: August 23, 2013, 08:27:51 PM
Is the level-shifter required to transform the voltage coming out of the GPIO pins of the raspberry pi(5v?) down to levels that the bitfury chips operate on(3.3v?)?
Yes, but the voltages are 3.3 and 1.8.

if you are feeling creative, i bet you could grab the 3.3V line directly from the PSU. 1.8V is another challenge though
3731  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official ASICMINER Hardware Information on: August 23, 2013, 06:35:48 PM
I have to say, the rate at which you are dropping prices for Erupters is directly undercutting (read robbing) margin from resellers. Resellers made this company. Without resellers you would have NO DISTRIBUTION NETWORK. This is a slap in the face to the people who helped you reach the place you are in now. As a reseller who paid and had his margins completely erased before they even arrived, I can tell you with full confidence you wont be seeing any more BTC from me.

"This Company" runs 10-20% of the network. They don't need to sell hardware at all.

Well then maybe they should take a break from screwing resellers for a while then if they don't need the margin.

Find any of their current resellers to complain here, or please stop complaining about your particular no-profit story.

I've gotta agree. ASICminer is free to charge whatever they like, and its up to the customers (including resellers) to decide whether they will buy at the price. It was a well-known fact at 2BTC each that they would never return, but they practically sold out. At 1BTC each, the same argument was heard, but people went ahead and built systems composed of dozens of BEs.

If you cant do the math, dont buy the product. its incredibly simple, and is the very definition of supply&demand.
The problem is I didn't pay 2 BTC each..  I paid .31 each in a bulk order of 100. Before they even arrived at my door the price was cut to .32 for SINGLE UNITS effectively making all resellers who paid at that price unpaid distribution agents. Again I purchased them for RESALE not mining, so you can take your "you should have known no ROI" crap and stick it right back where it came from. They aren't even allowing enough time for smaller resellers to unload inventory before they drop the price and erase all margins. As an extremely dissatisfied customer I have a right to make my complaints known to the general public in spite of the ASICMINER shill gang attacks. ASICMINER will not be seeing any more money from me.

Then you saw the change from 2BTC->1BTC->0.5BTC->etc, and knew that when you purchased with the plan to resell.

no pity for you, sorry

^Yes, keep items at their starting price forever and make ROI near end of time..
Is this what I said or is this your refractory interpretation? The rate at which prices are dropping burns resellers. Watch your sales evaporate if you cant maintain a stable price for even a few weeks.

thats the case with all of bitcoin. would you invest in a 7970 for bitcoin mining now? NO. (if yes, then reconsider!) ASICs are escalating massively, and unless you can adapt at the same speed you should not expect to ever break even

3735  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Block Erupter USB - Overclocking/ hacking ? on: August 21, 2013, 02:09:51 AM
Just a general out-loud thought to ASICMINER:

Asicminer should design, build, and sell a customized version of the Block Erupter USB that has the resistor/crystal combos demonstrated to work within this thread, and sell them with, or perhaps even without, the current heatsink 'plate' but marked as an "OC EDITION(S)" with the requirement for additional cooling clearly embedded in the branding.

right now, everyone wants more power from the AM chips and this could be easily achieved by asicminer and purchased by miners at higher prices. I believe it is the most logical way for asicminer to maintain the relevance of the chips/device when in a month they will need to be priced around 0.1-0.15 BTC each if there is hope to break even on investment, which is probably close to the production cost

Then you would have people with zero electronics experience or understanding purchasing them, setting them to the fastest configuration and cooking it within minutes/hours/days etc. Then AM and its resellers would have to deal with people claiming their products were sold as faulty and depending on how they paid for it they would attempt chargebacks.

Bitcoin purchases only, with clearly specified policy regarding no refunds/returns.

very beautiful! Any idea what sorts of costs it would see (outside of the bitfury chips)? Seems like 3Ghash/BTC speed is going to be necessary very, very soon

I hate to be the elephant in the room, but any word on August shipments?

I know you guys said late August, but that is approaching quite soon.

As you can see, we've hit a setback unfortunately. Luckily we identified this in time (before all chips were soldered to non-working boards). It'll take ~2 days to produce the boards, but up to 5 days to ship them to europe, so I might be going to China to test them on location to save time. We might find someone locally to do this also, but if I go there I'll be able to take some pics for you. I sincerely apologize for this delay. We're working hard to keep the delay to minimum.

Update

I've added option for UPS Express Saver shipping, and dropped the prices a bit as further october orders will most likely ship in very late october. Those who picked first october orders are likely to receive theirs in very early october, if not september.

Regarding invoices: there was a problem on the site. I will need to send invoices manually. You will get an invoice, don't worry.

I need to sleep now. Shanghai awaits tomorrow. I should have more news for you in about 30 hours.

Thats the latest.

roughly 10 hours ago, punin mentioned that he may be out-of-contact while in china, but come back with news in 30hrs (so about 20hrs from now). I anticipate that the new H-boards must be in transit by now, since everything appears to be coming to a head this week and (ideally) shipping next week
3739  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Bitfury is looking for alpha-testers of first chips! FREE MONEY HERE! on: August 16, 2013, 08:17:36 PM
Ah - thnx for the correction.  The 10pc orders showed as out of stock a week or two ago.
Would be nice to see more options for smaller bulk quantities.
i kind of love these chips.

Yeah, I was kinda interested in a few too, but even the main (EU) site (I'm UK based) no longer lists chips in any quantity.

Any idea when the tinkerers might be able to get hold of some (my electronics skills are nowhere near up to your standards, but I reckon I'll be able to cope with these, at least they're not BGAs Wink ).

I heard the chips will be for sale very soon, most likely in few days.

my guess is that once they start shipping the august kits (its looking like its on schedule to ship sometime late next week!) and demonstrate that the chips work and deliver, they will open up sales for some profit (much like asicminer - people will pay top dollar for a company that can deliver working products immediately)
3740  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official ASICMINER Hardware Information on: August 16, 2013, 08:13:54 PM
People have been warned many, many times about the economics of mining and simply ignored it.

They deserve to lose - and it seems to be the only way they'll learn.
They wont ... learn

Seems to me people are buying these in bulk, getting that bulk discount, mining with them for a month, then reselling for USUALLY a little more than they bought them for effectively mining for free and getting a small return on selling each one individually.

And No I'm not talking about the resellers, I'm talking about people purchasing from these resellers.

The people buying from these individuals are the ones losing.

I bought 2 for 1.48BTC total (after taxes and shipping), mined 0.078BTC, and then sold them for 1.38BTC and 4oz of pure silver bullion (~$90)

I would love to buy more for the novelty, but not until they hit the 0.2BTC price range
