yeah he was cranking it up he appears to be the first 1p + winner here from nicehash but I am not sure it he is a renter

nicehash and westhash front ends are down so i can not confirm if he rented from them.

37343  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What hardware to buy with $500K. Can you get 16NM or 20NM ASICs? on: May 30, 2015, 04:27:25 PM

I was thinking about renting some colocation cabinets and estimate a $600+ day power bill. This would probably place my rent in the $25K a month range if I decided to get into the bitcoin business and drop some serious cash on hardware.

If you were to drop $500K in hardware, what would you buy that is available or expected to be available in the next couple of months? I would think the price of bitcoin would need to be about $250 or greater to return a profit, and I believe eventually it'll work its way on up to the 4's and $500 again. But hey that's just me, and lots of folks I've talked to say bitcoin is dead. It's been flat, and growing slower in acceptance this year, but I have hope.

I've read 16NM has been in development and I think 20NM ASICs are available. Can one buy just the chips themselves and have them assembled on a PCB? Essentially, what would be the best bang for the buck to return a profit? Or is the difficulty just too great now and power consumption too much that its impossible? Somewhere the numbers must add up to return a profit, but I've had no luck in finding the hardware needed to do so. And other companies have decided to no longer sell to the public and just mine for themselves. That's why I was curious about sourcing the ASIC chips themselves. But I have a feeling it would be a lot more work to assemble a working rig if one were to drop a few hundred grand. Is cloud hashing a good bet?

Thanks in advance.

your question is all wrong.  it needs to be where can I get safe reliable 3 to 4 cent power?

current gear is .4 to .5 watts

s-3 gear is .8 watts

new gear even if it is .3 watts  loses out to s-3's at 3 to 4 cent power.  why is that?  it will cost 2 to 3 times the price of an s-3

play with this calculator

https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator

if you understand the math you will see why  500k worth of s-3's in a 3 to 4 cent cost zone make sense.
37344  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN AntMiner APW3-12-1600 PSU Series on: May 30, 2015, 03:52:47 PM
Or the current state of people able to test this thing effectively don't care to put up the $180 for it.

I offerred to test it and return it to the USA rep.  They never responded. Other then the dog barking at my generous offer of 2 or 3 days of testing it at no charge to them. and returning it on my dime to I believe Colorado.

So no one has offered to prove if it is a platinum psu. or if it is not.
37345  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN AntMiner APW3-12-1600 PSU Series on: May 30, 2015, 03:41:23 PM
and yet to see any testing on this by anyone on any gear.

which shows the current state of home mining is pretty much dead at the moment.

https://blockchain.info/blocks

358662   at 12.37
358597   at 00.18

66 blocks in the first 12.5 hours      we should make 75 blocks in 12.5 hours so we are down 10 for the day.

this is very good. we are close to certain to be negative.

we are down 31 blocks

1830 made should be 1861

I figure  (-1.67%)   as the real time number  not as good as bitcoinwisdom's (-2.71%)

but still very good.
37348  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: bitcoin mining and your electrical outlets on: May 30, 2015, 04:36:02 AM
Lastly are your inside the wall wires 12 gauge?

Not 100% sure, but I think that all 15A outlets are wired with 14 gauge instead of 12, which I think was what prevented me to change outlets from 15A to 20A before.
I am not sure about outlets on 20A circuit, but i suspect that they are also 14 gauge, but I never run more than 12.5A on any outlet anyway.

14 gauge is the issue long (120 days) runs cause issues with them.  be careful .

Interesting-what exactly did you observe re long runs and 14 gauge? i assume that you had some experience.

sure works like this.  you are on the edge of safety and wires slowly warm just below detection levels.  So 30 days no issues but since you are just under the margin of error. the wire coating degrade all the plastics degrade.

Kind of like you pasteurize milk at 145 vs boiling it.

Or slow cook a steak at 145 f for 16 hours .  It looks pink yet it is cooked.

The plastics do the same. I have mined in house 24/7/1000   basically 1000 days in a row until last month.and Hurricane Sandy knocked me out for 3 days.

I had issues like this with 14 gauge wire in walls and extension cords.  I have had more then one socket turn color.

A second factor is it is warmer outside and the home is warmer so all the wires get warmer.

http://btc.blockr.io/charts

171 on 5-17-2015  most about 95 of the blocks were last adjustment.  bitcoinwisdom still uses them for the guess in the future.

so above is 27 over norm of 144 for the day,  but only 10 for the 'real' count this adjustment.

143 5-18  -1        +9 running count
138 5-19  -6        +3
138 5-20  -6         -3
153 5-21 +9        +12
144 5-22   0        +12
110 5-23  -34      -22
145 5-24  +1       -21
141 5-25  -3        -24
144 5-26   0        -24
142 5-27  -2        -26
136 5-28  -8        -34
157 5-29 +13      -21

about 1776 made we should be at  1797   that = 1776/1797 =  0.9883-1 = -0.0116 which is

-1.16 %

as a real time number
.

which would make me the leader with 240 blocks left.

bitcoinwisdom does not have this  shift in their prediction.  in the morning we will know better.

with only 240 blocks left even if we finish out strong maybe we go to = +1%

temp  52   63      fan 3840 (very very loud)

back off to 400 and compare numbers.

then try 412.5 or 406

I maxed at 412.5

  425 is really good
37352  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: When calculating total hardware cost; do you include the full cost of the PSU? on: May 29, 2015, 10:42:46 PM
I use the warranty to be my guide.

so an evga 1300 g2 for 180 usd with a ten year warranty is 18 a year.

a second hand server from the sellers here on this site   is a very short warranty 1 year or less so I do the cost over 1 year.

3 year warranty = ⅓ each year

5 year warranty = 1/5 each year

7 year warrnty = 1/7 each year

I have a degree in accounting from Queens College in New York City and I worked for the IRS as did my mother for 26 years and my wife for 33 years.

Since I report this on my taxes I stay consistent with it.

It is all new so to speak so I can not tell you that in the case of an audit I would be told I am correct.

thank you for the reply. this is great info. What about shelving and running power? (extra outlets)?

It depends on the use of it.  If the shelving was used for miners only then yes it would be included.  And power you could use the amount of electricity used for miners, not the entire bill.

buying shelving and running outlets are more gray.   since an outlet or a shelf can be used for more purposes.  it boils down to how reasonable you put down cash wise.  where the gear is located etc.
30 s-3 or s-5  miners with psu's need   a setup area and extra power. more wires etc. shelving .  photos and receipts and you stand a chance to claim it. maybe 300 to 500 to wire and setup shelves.

2 or 3 miners with psu's  do not bother
37353  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: bitcoin mining and your electrical outlets on: May 29, 2015, 10:32:22 PM
Constant mining beyond 150 days your house and the ground under it start to act like 1 massive heat sink.

Turn all gear off for 3 days and check all outlets that = brown/yellow

also consider some 20 amp plugs

white will show yellowing faster.

Thanks for the info on the psu's Phillip.  BTW is there anywhere on the forums that has a psu round up?  I have not seen one.  Maybe I should check if the search is still broken Tongue  I got a corsair psu for my last computer and it is working great for several years now.  I never heard of Seasonic but I will keep them in mind for my next build.

Seasonic
Evga
Corsair

all of the above are good psu companies.

37355  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Ckpool Solo Setup mark 2 - An alternative on: May 29, 2015, 10:17:34 PM
I just don't like grouping up in a solo pool, it goes against the definition of "solo".  Basically the participants are running their own pool inside the solo pool architecture.  I ain't losing any sleep over it, though.

well for a lot of miners summer is here.  My rates jump this monday from 13 to 16.9 cents  add in 1.1 cents for cooling and I am at 18 cents until oct 1.  this means no in house mining since an s-5 earns about 3usd in the next 50 days.

I have a small setup in a friends office 3 s-3's  at 3.5 cents.

other then this no mining for the next 4 months.   I can spend 2 coins a month for the next 4 months.  total of 8 coins I do not want to mine solo since  8 coins is meh.

but with 5 trusted people it becomes 40 coins  much better chance at a block or 2.

Looks like a Mac to me. Anyway, you need to make sure your router is forwarding the port 8333 from the outside to the machine running the node.

 screenshot was from a mac.

but the unreachable was the same as the one on the windows.

I will look at router settings. thanks. I fully reset router and it now works.

got an email notice and all. ping time is 200 ms I am interested to see if that improves.

It is now working

37358  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: i need a cheap effective rig on: May 29, 2015, 05:50:25 PM
well any amount of money works for me even if its a small amount. i can save it up and add in interest and make more money from what i have. this is just a small way to increase the amount of money. thats what most people seem to use it as and id like to try and i will try and get the info needed. but til then i need to know everything else first. i need a url and a pool i can join and just start earning ok if you can do that that will be great and needed. dont worry about the dang hardware ill get it once i earned some money from mowing some peoples yards. i have cgminer 4.9.1 and a btcguild account so tell me what i need to do from this point with what i have already.

okay so you do not pay your power.  you are in High School.

So your parents pay the  power bill?

If this is the case tell us the power company's name.  What  state you are in.

Here is why my state is New Jersey my power company is first energy/JCP&L   so my summer rate is 16.9 cents  cooling is 1.1 cents this = 18 cents.  No rig makes money at 18 cents a kwatt.

So if you are in a high cost area for your power and you buy a 600 watt miner everyone loses  money.

Good idea. Speaking of S5's - do you know if I can run 2 on a single EVGA SuperNOVA 1300G2 or Seasonic 1250? We have an investor willing to fund a pretty significant hardware purchase, so I've been in touch with Bitmain Tech and they have been very helpful with info.

I'm running my S5s, two per power supply, on a combination of EVGA SuperNOVA 1300G2s and Antec HCP-1300 Platinum 1300W power supplies. They work well on those power supplies, are decently efficient and the PS stays cool (including cool wires) even if I overclock the S5s a bit. My S5s are consistently in the 1.3TH/s to 1.35TH/s range with a slight overtune on these PS units and no issues at all.

Thank you! Exactly the info I was looking for. Thanks! Would you recommend one of those over the other or have they both performed similarly? Any experience with the Seasonic 1250?

I have not used that model, but Seasonic is a top notch company on PSU's so very good.  Both he mentioned are good.

Honestly it depends on price if you can get the Antec he mentioned close to the EVGA I would go for the Antec ad get the platinum.  But decent pricing differen then I would go with EVGA.

Got it - thanks. The EVGA one is $169.99 now @newegg after rebate. Seems like a great price - I just wish it had 8 PCI-E connections like the Seasonic.

I have used:
 Seasonic 1200 plat
 Seasonic 1000 plat
 Seasonic    750 plat

I have used Evga 1300 g2
I have used Evga 1600 p2

And a lot of others.

the evga 1300 g2 is good gear.

it has 6 pcie cables  4 with 1 plug and 2 with 2 plugs

you can do 2 single cables and 1 double cable to an s-5.

use a single left
a single right
and use a double on the left and right.
run at stock speed  of 1150

then do the second s-5 the same way.
