soooo....just so we're all clear -- you're anti-capitalism and pro-anarchy? Yes. I am an anarcho-socialist / libertarian-socialist / social anarchist. Take your pick. Basically, I believe in the inherent goodness of human beings. I don't believe the warped, ignorant view capitalists take on human nature. They create a brutal system, force all the monkeys into it, and then declare those monkeys brutal. It's circular. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuiQOhNpJeEhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oB9rp_SAp2Uhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLCEXtpTNYUThe OP's linked article really hit the nail on the head. As far as I'm concerned cryptocurrency is the most powerful technology for human liberation since the internet. The importance of this invention cannot possibly be overstated, and its socio-political repercussions will echo through our world for decades to come.

In a lawless society, how long do you think it would be before you get a nice visit from goons selling "protection services"? I'd love to hear your answer to that, Mr. anarchist. "The measure of the state’s success is that the word anarchy frightens people, while the word state does not. We are like those African slaves who believe that their master is their benefactor, or those Russians who still believe that Stalin was their guardian." -Joseph Sobran

If you aren't the sole controller of your private keys, you don't have any bitcoins. Vital lesson of thread quoted above. Stop trusting strangers with your wealth, kids.

It's nothing short of epochal shift that's taking place. And it can't be stopped. This person speaks wisely, and displays great foresight.

"Don't worry, I'll just replace those coins for you, plus a few free ones too!" << something no one here is gonna say to you, ever. Maybe you should just like E-mail them, or talk to somebody there? I would say this is the correct route, rather than posting your mistake to a bunch of strangers on the internet. Give the company you just donated to a call, and explain what happened. Best of luck.

This seems like a decent solution. Just start measuring everything in satoshis rather than in full Bitcoins. I've heard many friends say to me, "I'd rather buy DOGE, it's soooo much cheaper", to which I can only shake my head in disgust.

If you are using 0.9 'standard' fees you are likely to have a bad time.
The devs unilaterally dropped fees by a factor of 10. Unless all the large miners agree, there are going to be a lot of slow confirmations over the next few weeks.
Could you explain in simple terms, what fee should we use to send 1 BTC if we want to see some confirmations within 30 minutes? I see this question come up all the time, maybe there should be a sticky announcement or something...

I don't think there is much that can be done. Those coins are lost. It's best to move on and learn that keeping large sums of BTC in online wallets, exchanges, etc is a bad idea. This. Cryptocurrency is not for fools. Personally I'm glad most of the fools and weak hands have been shaken out by scammers and thieves - it was bound to happen anyway. Better it happen in one big, early crime than happen over many smaller crimes over a long, painful period of time. That scenario would be far more damaging to Bitcoin in the long run.

3. the best security is paper wallet, not third party storage. have you learnt nothing Actually, a brain wallet with a properly selected passphrase is superior to a paper wallet in just about every conceivable way.

Force? no.
Coerce? Yes, and we will.
Game theory will coerce all governments to melt all their fiat for crypto, sooner or later.
|
|
|
All true cryptocurrencies (not DOGE, which is a fiat coin scam) will rise in value relative to all fiat currencies over the course of the next decade or three.
Any of the main cryptos will be profitable, middle to long term.
That said, there are better reasons than profit to divest from fiat. Not supporting state-sponsored terrorism is my personal favorite.

On a serious note , the way I convince most of my friends to join it is by telling them how they can reap profits from the system rather than convincing them that Bitcoin is a better financial system xD I disagree strongly with this view, I think educating them on WHY Bitcoin is a better way to do money is MUCH more important than telling them "you'll make lots of profit!", especially given Bitcoin's volatility. Otherwise they may end up buying in right before a big crash, and then they'll resent you because they have no understanding of how irrelevant fiat price fluctuations are, at this early stage.

its possible bitcoin could have prevented the weimar republic's hyper inflation (because they wouldn't be able to print money). Although this would have caused them to default on the reparations it would allow them to start producing goods again and would prevent or lessen the economic suffering that they had in the 30's. this in turn might have stopped hitler from rising to power thus likely averting ww2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3_lVSrPB6w

Heavy but utter nonsense I think. A decidedly unconvincing argument.
