3761  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Updating Apps Question on: May 10, 2022, 10:10:15 AM
Anyone here like this or do all you people usually check every few weeks or so if your installed apps are up to date.  But when you do a firmware update, does it automatically update your installed apps or you have to still do it manually yourself?  Don't remember what happened last time when i did the firmware update.

Normally I don't think that I update firmware or apps more often than once a year. I open LL more often to answer questions on the forum than to check for updates; if they're any, I usually do that though.
Lately I do it more often because you keep asking (kinda same) questions  Cheesy
I don't remember 100% sure if firmware update also updates the apps, but I think it does, actually it might even remove and reinstall them. However, LL always tells big everything you need to know, so you cannot miss updates if you keep your eyes open. (And since you do firmware update, you're in LL)
A bigger risk at firmware updates is that the updates take more and more space and you can easily end up with one of the coin apps removed/not reinstalled because of the lack of space there.

Now my question is... there is no issue of me updating all my install apps on my nano ledger right now correct?  Reason is because since i requested btc from a site to the btc receiving address i got from ledger live... and will be waiting for the btc to hit my wallet, this will take a while as that site is slow with withdraws... there is no issue with me updating my btc, bch apps now right?  Or should i wait until the btc hit my wallet first and then install updates for all my installed apps on nano ledger?

No, the HW will generate the same addresses from the same seed + same coin + same derivation path, no matter how the apps are updated. So unless something extremely fishy goes on you should be safe.

It doesn't matter at all whether you receive the money before or after the update.
It sounds scary and it's not the case, but: if something bad happens and an address is no longer recognized/generated, it doesn't even matter you got funds on it or will get funds on it.
3762  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bukele's Bitcoin City view. on: May 10, 2022, 09:51:32 AM
I really hope that the color will not be so... uniform.
And it does look great, but I don't think we should put up too many expectations into a politician's promises, you know...

PS. Some of your links are broken. Still, one link (the one before last) doesn't point where it should. fixed
3763  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Get in my shoes for a minute on: May 10, 2022, 09:47:39 AM
Now that the bear market is here I have only 300$ to spare, looking into buying some altcoins for long term hold, I've successfully acquired some Bitcoin though but I want to get a ledger nano x wallet, what should I do in this case? Nano x is 150$ I guess, does it make sense to buy Nano x now or buy altcoins now and Nano x later.

1. Altcoins are more unsafe investments than bitcoin, hence buying the HW may be better investment. Grin
2. Nano X is imho too expensive for what it does, you can find cheaper HW. Even more, if you are knowledgeable enough you can setup cold storage(s) for a fraction of that money (on USB). Or paper wallet(s).

All in all, there's no easy answer for your problem.
3764  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Buy virtual Mastercard Debit Cards with crypto without KYC. on: May 10, 2022, 09:38:04 AM
Can anybody give an update on the situation? Was it cleared up? Are the balances OK now on those cards?
I am curious because one of the newbies PMed me in the week-end and I was the one redirecting him here.
And I am curious also to see whether this business just had a glitch or it's scamming.
3765  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Who’s itching to buy? on: May 10, 2022, 09:35:05 AM
The risks of margin trading are pretty big and the market is a bit unstable/risky too, increasing the chances to get burned.
Maybe you're itching to buy, and I don't tell you to do or don't, just be careful.

I will tell about altcoins. Iirc they have a history of following Bitcoin crash and even crash more, just a little delayed. So, again, careful and read more.
I know that Monero, for example, which pumped greatly in the past days, now (for some 24h) is dumping.

So imho DCA is still the safer call  Wink, however, please decide yourself for your money.
3766  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Michael Saylor margin call if Bitcoin dumps below $21,000 on: May 10, 2022, 09:28:30 AM
I am quite certain their position on taking a loan against their bitcoin to buy more bitcoin is safe because they have more bitcoin to deposit in their account to avoid a margin call. However, taking leverage by borrowing against a volatile asset to buy the same volatile asset is very risky. The real whales of the cryptospace, Sam Bankman Fried, Changpeng Zhao and Arthur Hayes and the cryptofunds who follow them can manipulate the market to liquidate Michael Saylor.

Maybe they can (which I am not that sure), but will they?!
I think that it's just a little over-pumped drama. Yes, MicroStrategy is exposed. Yes, in theory, the price can go under 21k (iirc in the previous 4-year cycle the low was around 1/7 or the ATH and that would translate to 10k).
But I find even the current 30k (or a little under) very appealing to many and I am also convinced that Michael Saylor has last resort resources he doesn't want to unveil (and he may even buy more as soon as he gets liquidity).

So yeah, it's just newspaper-like ifs and more ifs. I would not be so worried for MicroStrategy. At least not yet.
3767  Local / Presa / Re: Elrond va furniza (furnizeaza?) carduri VISA, MasterCard, precum si conturi IBAN on: May 10, 2022, 07:04:37 AM

3768  Economy / Economics / Re: El Salvador close to default? on: May 10, 2022, 06:38:33 AM
El Salvador and Bitcoin, but if we enter a bear market I think there may be some problems.

I'd say that if we get to real crypto winter, then there will indeed be troubles in paradise.
For now, they're still bragging for buying the dip (more 500 BTC yesterday, it seems) and there are still hopes that an actual crypto winter will not come this time.

But a lot of things there are simply politics. Lies covered with things that look good, maybe with a thin layer of actual good things too. Their president is kinda walking on thin ice. On one hand, if he stops, he's doomed; on the other hand, if he continues as recklessly as until now, only new ATH soonish may save him.
And yeah, overall finances of El Salvador may look gloomy, but .. when did they look great last time?
3769  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: F1 Formula Sports Racing - Sportsbet.io promotions & discussion thread on: May 10, 2022, 06:28:39 AM
Surprised to see Albon take 10th place

Actually Albon ended up on 9th after Alonso got one more 5 sec penalty, getting moved down to 11th place. So it's 2 point for him this time, yay Smiley
See: Alonso loses points, Albon and Stroll promoted
3770  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Signature on copper membership on: May 09, 2022, 03:18:10 PM
I want to promote my business here on BTalk

I think that you can easily already start with an ANNouncement thread about your business (and here copper membership can indeed help with allowing you post images).
Then, afaik, copper membership should allow you have at least links in the signature.

Will this be enough for you? I'm not so sure. If you want to advertise it a lot, you'll need to post a lot. As already said, getting more people wear your signature may be the way forward.
3771  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you want to live a peaceful life? Without drama? Then HODL and enjoy the ride on: May 09, 2022, 01:37:21 PM
I think I didn't even had satoshi in my own wallet even in 2014. So it's an impressive achievement for OP.

But I've done my fair share of holding (not 100% HODL since I've kept some, but also sold some) and I can tell that imho one really get to "enjoy the ride" when the price goes down only after managed to beat a crypto winter and hold for (at least) one full 4-year cycle.
3772  Economy / Speculation / Re: Only a matter of time until this website dies on: May 09, 2022, 12:33:59 PM
That's right folks. You better listen to this newbie and sell all your Bitcoins to me.

Go to any exchange and put your orders; I guess that there are plenty of FOMO newbies that are panicking there, just like this one.

Why are such posts even allowed I wonder. The truth is this world would be so boring without the usual naysayers. Keep posting guys.

Because it's a free speech forum, no matter how sour are the grapes for this or that.
And, indeed, because it would become boring without... these Cheesy

Bitcoin 33,000....soon to be 21,000...Etherium classic will soon disperse....gen Zs retirement disappeared into smithereens.

Your expertise looks very convincing. The fact you cannot even spell correctly no matter what altcoin's name (and no matter how its price will evolve) shows the deep extent of the knowledge you're sharing with us.
3773  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A time people have been waiting for bitcoin to drop on: May 09, 2022, 12:28:49 PM
Okay, presently I want to ask why the sudden panicking around the media and forum here.

There are always moonboys showing up when the price grows and doomsday preachers when the price falls.
And the media always tries to squeeze stories from price movements, no matter the direction.

While the price looks bad, in other similar 4-year-cycles, at this stage may have been much worse.
The only thing is that with so rich institutional investors around and with so many telling "this time it'll be different", this drop came somewhat unexpected to many.

I want to know when is the best time to buy or waiting more dip to buy and what if the price turns back to bull?
What do we do?

I can't tell how will this go on. I also thought it's different this time and at least no longer go this low.
What I can tell that it's usually no bad time and no good time to buy bitcoin. Best may be to DCA. (However, please do with your money as you decide.)
3774  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: F1 Formula Sports Racing - Sportsbet.io promotions & discussion thread on: May 09, 2022, 12:15:56 PM
Leclerc kinda had his chance for getting back on top after Lando's car got thrashed. He has missed it. Too bad.
In the same restart Perez was soooo close to take over Sainz.. yet he didn't.

Albon got points again. Nice.
Haas were sooo close to points...
Alfa Romeo keeps going impressingly well this year, especially with Bottas at the wheel.

The Mercs performed better than in the past weeks and they may become a real threat after the actual upgrade (Barcelona?)

McLaren and AlphaTauri were a disappointment, especially after good looking practice and qualifying.

Nice race overall, although the middle of it was more interesting around place 10 than at the top. The end has become better for the viewers, not for Lando though.
3775  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and Ethereum at risk of serious losses on: May 09, 2022, 10:59:42 AM

You took the timeframe that proves the theory, you drew the lines in a way to prove the theory.
You could have been easily drawn the lines in a couple of different ways getting to different conclusion/tone, without proving anything.

It's easy to talk about loses while the price is falling. If the price would be rising, you probably would have building up the chart different.

And now, everybody feeling gloomy about the price: just zoom out fully.
3776  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Blockchain in the Cloud on: May 09, 2022, 10:49:10 AM
Because the bitcoin blockchain is getting larger and larger in size people often don't use the original bitcoin client that fully downloads the blockchain to your computer. As I understood the other wallets connect to an online server that has the blockchain on it to be able to connect with the network. Would it be possible for an attacker to upload a different blockchain history to that server so that possibly millions of users would send transactions to a wrong chain or have wrong balances displayed? Has this happened in the past or is this not possible?

The blockchain is not just a file all the clients download and go on happily.
The only way the new blockchain would be accepted by other clients would be if that one would be longer (more blocks) and still valid, and for that to happen the "attacker" would have to have bigger hash rate than the current network.

So it is possible, but the current cost of doing that is too big, making it highly unlikely to be performed.
I would give some reading to https://learn.eqonex.com/news/what-51-attack-and-how-much-would-it-cost. It's just one of the first web results, but it seems to cover the mining/blockchain part and the costs too.
3777  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: First mixer sanctioned by US authorities (blender.io) on: May 09, 2022, 09:46:46 AM
It's not certain that your coins will be held until you provide more info, neither that they won't be accepted because they're blacklisted, but is it worth it? I mean, you're mixing to get privacy, but you're going straight to those anti-private and ambiguously deceitful companies? That's like pulling the devil by the tail.

Well, let's say somebody has 1000 BTC as a single input. Maybe he doesn't want to tell the CEX he has 1000 BTC and a mixer does that even if only 0.1 BTC is mixed and the rest is kept "clean".
It's not my case (I wouldn't have mind it was Cool), but privacy can go in various ways.

I'm in the favoring position to have never used any centralized exchange. I only exchange decentrally whenever I want, whatever I want, with whoever I want. I'm mixing, because I can; because it's primarily a smart decision.

It's a smart decision indeed, and I think that you're one of the lucky few that could actually do that. I think that the majority just won't. Unfortunately.

Using a centralized exchange, hoping that your coins will be approved means you're somewhat agreed with this "taint" rule, which is against the principles of bitcoin.
And that's just one of the many reasons you should avoid CEX.

True. But I don't think that they're keen to lose customers and get some drama instead.
Of course, if one sends 1 mixed BTC to CEX in one step, he's "asking for it".

What I've done was basically testing with rather small amounts.
3778  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: First mixer sanctioned by US authorities (blender.io) on: May 09, 2022, 08:59:04 AM
Bitstamp, Binance, Coinbase etc., always treated bitcoin as non-fungible and enforced these arbitrary rules against mixing. You're not affected if you don't use centralized exchanges.

I did sell at Binance coins mixed at Chipmixer in the past year. Nothing bad has happened, everything was processed just like other non-mixed coins.
So for now I think that the "fear" of mixing may be a bit exaggerated. Or maybe it depends on the exchange too.

Of course, reading TOS is a must. Of course, testing the waters may be useful. Of course, keeping too much money on centralized exchanges is (and was) never a good idea.
3779  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why didn't I buy bitcoin? (article translation) on: May 09, 2022, 08:38:04 AM
I screwed up. Bottom line: I don't have bitcoins, but now there is disappointment. A real "lose" as I felt it to myself.

What I thought: Well, to hell with it! You never know where you will find, where you will lose. What I started saying: Bitcoin is some kind of lottery.
What actually happened: Nothing. The rate grew 30 times, that's all that happened. It happens.

I didn't read it all. Just parts. I find it a typical story of non-investor.
* If it's on a plateau, let's find a way to not buy because it's expensive, maybe it's going to fall.
* If it's falling, let's wait for the bottom.
* If it's rising "omg, I've missed the train, big mistake".

It's the typical mindset of those who will most probably never invest.
And of course, one of the most important reason for not buying is that they never sit down and spent the time to understand why it has been rising so big. And if they don't understand, they'll call it lottery.. or worse.
3780  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ledger USB problem in the airport on: May 09, 2022, 08:15:33 AM
I never thought that this could happen? I usually have a USB keychain area in my backpack where I usually put my Ledger device and I thought it would be safe in there. I see that there's no issue with the security but with the human nature which I haven't consider but they wouldn't be able to use it not unless with my pin right? but they can try it to 0000-9999 to open it as you can try it repeatedly.

Actually if somebody with the right knowledge gets his hands on your HW, there's a good chance he can get to spend your coins; probably will have to dismantle the device though.
On the other hand, at least the HW I have, will reset (and lose seed) after 3 wrong PIN entered. And you can recover afterwards from the recovery seed.
