3761  Economy / Speculation / Re: Prediction - $1500 in 30 days - What do you think? on: May 05, 2017, 12:40:24 AM
Right now this is the bitcoin price in different exchanges
Bitstamp USD 1,587.49
Bitfinex USD 1,656.70
GDAX USD 1,620.83
itBit USD 1,597.16
OKCoin USD 1,449.45
Gemini USD 1,590.00
BTC-e USD 1,484.37
Kraken EUR 1,448.00
I don't understand how these exchanges can be so far apart from each other, it just doesn't make sense. I would expect for a ton of the exchanges to be way closer together than they are, and yet they manage to have differences of close to $200. Won't investors be trading Bitcoin on the cheap exchanges on the lucrative exchanges and so?
I might just be stupid, but it doesn't seem like that's how this is supposed to work.
Well in some countries only some exchanges are convenient to use and some aren't even accessible. There are also currency exchange rate differences and different restrictions that makes prices higher than in other places. Trust me, nobody actually wants to realistically buy at 1600+ when you can snag coins for ~1500. You also have to realise the "cheap" exchanges may have restrictions making it hard to get money in and out.
3762  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Spondoolies (SP20e) Yellow LED codes on: May 05, 2017, 12:36:40 AM
Ah great! Thanks for the suggestion.

I tried the spondoolies website (now offline), but did not think of looking for a 'Spondoolies' account on this forum.

And i haven't spotted whether 'top posting' or 'bottom posting' a reply is acceptable, so again, steep learning curve, and am happy to hear back if there is an acceptable standard for top- or bottom-posting reply comments.

Thanks again.

Maybe the Spondoolies Bitcointalk account may have some information, might want to pm him. I own one of those units and they're a puzzle to figure out, I didn't even know there were codes in the lights after you plugged em in. Thought they were just indicators and not actually blinking a code. Also, you're in the right spot, no worries.
No problem, bottom posting is done most of the time here. If you haven't found the account yet, the link's here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=295386

Company went bankrupt which is why the official site is down. Quite a shame since they were actually good competitors at the time to Bitmain, outclassing their S3 and S5 in terms of efficiency.
3763  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin reaches the price of 1500 USD do we have to sell or we save? on: May 05, 2017, 12:08:21 AM
Has anyone so far bought bitcoin before this month, held, and lost money before? So far we can safely say that HODLing will result in essentially guaranteed profit, although this could change. I'm not referring to any specific period of time HODLing coins, but rather in general, though. Unless you really need coins, I'd say just hold off on spending and keep HODLing with us on the forum.
3764  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 04, 2017, 09:45:17 PM
Interesting to note that altcoins are slowly going up in the green again. Nothing too big, if anything we could just rebound upwards a little bit and stay at around 1500. It's a shame price is still too high for me to justify buying but if it goes down further that could be a good idea.
3765  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: It is worth to invest in the new Antminer L3+? on: May 04, 2017, 08:21:01 PM
Some guys got arrested for mining in Venezuela or something like that recently, right? I heard their farm got taken away and that's all I remember. Just make sure you're not pulling too much power because that could happen to you, too...
3766  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 04, 2017, 08:16:23 PM
First minute drops happen, panic ensues, "rip we're going back to 1000 boys!!" few minutes later back to around 1550. Funny how fast the mood changes in this thread.

On the other hand, always good to see a dip short term as we all knew we weren't getting any higher scot-free.

3768  Economy / Speculation / Re: When do you think Bitcoin will reach $1500? on: May 02, 2017, 03:10:30 PM
It is unlikely. I think it should be back to around 800 some time this year.
800$ i don't think we will see a price like that without any sort of interference. Because the price of bitcoin fell from 1200$-900$ because of china. And current price is 1300$ so to reach 800$ the price has to fall by 500$ while china attact could only reduce the price by 300$.
1300? You must be stuck in the past for we just nearly hit 1500 just now. There's no telling how much the price could fall due to China, but that's unlikely and the more likely thing is that we will continue on an upwards trend like we have been in for the last few months.
3769  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 01, 2017, 06:07:05 PM
Wide scale dumping isn't happening yet, we've still gained today so far so not too bad. Ten percent in this little time is great either way. Not a bad day at all, looking to see where we'll end up long term.
No real reason to dump  Wink things are healthy atm
Even if price were to dump I'm not losing much either way since I bought up when prices were around 600. Resistance is a little bit higher now but it's to be expected in this kind of a price rise. Price seems to be going up a little again so we'll see how this day ends.

Whales are finally dumping ETH and DASH (finally)
We all knew this was going to happen eventually and how price would explode like it has today, but nobody knew when it was going to happen. Evidently that day is today, right now Smiley
3772  Economy / Speculation / Re: [UPDATE] $1,400 HIT (Next goal is $1,500) on: May 01, 2017, 05:00:59 PM
Can someone explain to me

On https://bitcoinaverage.com/en/bitcoin-price/btc-to-usd => It shows USD 1416,96 at the moment.

But when I click on

https://bitcoinaverage.com/en/exchanges/gdax/btc-to-gbp => USD 1327,40
https://bitcoinaverage.com/en/exchanges/bitstamp/xrp-to-usd => USD 1390,81

So why is the above price higher then the only 2 exchanges bitcoinaverage has listed?

Bitcoinaverage is buggy though
Take a look on GDAX website, the price is $1458
Btw bitfinex +$1500 right now
Not sure anybody takes Finex seriously anymore, but anything is welcome. I reckon if we don't get dumped to oblivion we could get to 1500 by the end of the week. Good stuff, nobody could have predicted this!
3773  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 01, 2017, 04:58:34 PM
Woke up this morning with a fever but find price is at almost $1450. This sure made up for a terrible Monday Smiley let's show those altcoiners who's boss!
3774  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: UPS on S9's? on: April 29, 2017, 12:28:31 PM
you can add cheap offline UPS if the sole purpose is to clear the peaks and provide
at leats a couple of minutes of online time, just buy the cheapest ones
or you can use https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003Y24DEU for example
it won't be able to keep all five miners online but will provide surge protection and level the peaks

The cheap ones are honestly not worth it at all, if you're going to get a UPS get a good one that'll keep it up for as long as possible. The cheaper you go the lower the quality and the less time it adds. Also, we're talking about S9s and 865 watts won't keep it running for long.
3775  Economy / Speculation / Re: $2000 anyone? on: April 29, 2017, 01:28:51 AM
Time will tell, these last few months have been crazy and unpredictable, so $2000 isn't even out of the question completely. I've been HODLing for quite some time now and it seems I'll continue my journey further Smiley

On a side note, even the alts are beginning to go up again and I've also made money on that. Great year for Crypto so far, let's see how it goes the rest of the year.
3776  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: Bitfury 16 nm chips and board design on: April 28, 2017, 11:21:15 PM

is there still interest in this project or did it just die

i would be interested to invest
Side hack has a plan for a few BF16 sticks, pods, and also a blade that can be directly mounted onto S1/3/5 frames, and nothing further has happened on this thread so I'd assume nobody else got the chips. IIRC Sidehack was one of the only guys to even get contacted by Bitfury with a realistic pricing for chips, so I think this project is dead.
3777  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What would be happen, if energy do not cost anymore anything? on: April 28, 2017, 05:09:22 PM
If energy were free difficulty would almost exponentially increase as long as miners are cranked out fast enough. In that sort of world we could see difficulty doubling in less than a week. However this is incredibly improbable and practically impossible; you can't just get infinite amounts of energy for nothing.
3778  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will we see $1300 again? on: April 28, 2017, 01:20:57 PM
Next thread: When will we see $2000? It's a little bit unclear whether or not this current trend is organic or not but one thing for certain is that the SEC disapproval of the coin ETF probably won't  have a big effect on the price. Everybody knows the chances are slim and I hope we get to 1400 soon.
3779  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS][EU] Antminer S3 farm on: April 28, 2017, 11:26:59 AM
Without power costs, they make $111/year at current diff, block reward and btc price.
I strongly believe that the diff will rise, i'm not sure if the price will rise to tough...
http://www.coinwarz.com/calculators/bitcoin-mining-calculator/?h=450.00&p=366.00&pc=0&pf=0.50&d=521974519553.62800000&r=12.50000000&er=1408.60000000&hc=0.00

If we factor in a small power price of 5 cents/kwu, it'll cost a miner about $160/year to run these machines while only make $111/year in btc (and dropping).
http://www.coinwarz.com/calculators/bitcoin-mining-calculator/?h=450.00&p=366.00&pc=0.05&pf=0.50&d=521974519553.62800000&r=12.50000000&er=1408.60000000&hc=0.00

The current break even power price seems to be 3 cents/kwu or less... It'll even drop further in the future as the diff goes up. If you pay more than 3 cents/kwu, you'll lose money while mining, if you pay 3 cents you'll make $14/year profit at current network conditions and price...
http://www.coinwarz.com/calculators/bitcoin-mining-calculator/?h=450.00&p=366.00&pc=0.03&pf=0.50&d=521974519553.62800000&r=12.50000000&er=1408.60000000&hc=0.00

Long story short, i (and maybe other people) would be willing to buy these S3's (if they are in good condition) either as a toy to tinker with, an educational tool, a conversation starter, part of a collection, or as a loud space heater... Either way, i wouldn't give more than $10-$15 for one piece, escrow and shipping included. If i'd buy 4 or 5, i'd even expect a discount.
To be fair S3s aren't very loud at all, in fact, they're one of the quietest miners of their size. You can even swap out fans if you feel they're too loud; my S3s were inaudible in my living room. Either way, they're really just for hobby or beginner miners.
3780  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What would happen to your BTC and alts if you died ? on: April 28, 2017, 10:50:28 AM
Security comes at the cost of nobody else knowing that you have a wallet and the password to such a wallet. On the flip side, security is also degraded if you reveal the password to someone else.  I've hidden my password to my wallet in a small locked box somewhere in my house, haven't told anyone where it is but I'll keep the instructions to that hidden as well Smiley
