So we will don't have an alternative pool beside yPool? Sad
We do have upcpu, but that has the latency issues. And technically we have Infinitypool, although it is not worth it to mine there as the miner isn't optimized.
Darn, luckily we have technologically gifted community members that can hopefully fix this. Cheesy

Gatra, if you don't mind, can you give me FTP access so I can just upload it directly instead of emailing you? It would be faster.

@gatra and @northranger79510:

Was the main technical PoW explanation removed from riecoin.org? I was about to reference it. Think it used to be after "What is new about Riecoin" and before "How is Riecoin different from Primecoin"

You're right, I thought it was there but I couldn't find it on the new site. We need to add this back asap!
In the mean time, you can still find it in the old site here: http://riecoin.biz/

Yikes. Looks like I've goofed up on some part while I was rushing. Will look at everything this weekend.

I wonder if there is a way for the multi sig to be configured to accept a majority of the sig and not everyone's (forgive me if there is. Never used a multi-sig address). I think that would be better in case one person holding a key has a family emergency, vanished, died, etc. Then, the foundation wouldn't be able to access the funds.
AFAIK this is possible: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Original_Bitcoin_client/API_calls_list
Say we use 5 people.
use
Code:
riecoind addmultisigaddress 3 '["publicKey1","publicKey2","publicKey3","publicKey4","publickey5"]'
To add a multisig address that requires 3 out of the 5 people to agree the funds should be spent.

Can someone knowledgeable on this subject confirm?

btw, about 10 blocks left until diff adjustment.

Never used a multi-sig address

Me neither. It just popped out of the back of my head, and then I researched it.  Smiley

Excellent! Looks like we have a winner. But all foundation members should agree (or majority) in case someone thinks of a better idea. I will be PMing those on the list on Monday. Looks like we are ahead of schedule. Thanks surfer for your contributions!

Can't we use a multi-signature address rather than an exchange? Although complicated, it seems like it would be much simpler than the exchange. Also, people would be able to verify the funds are at that address.

I didn't think of that! Great idea! I am assuming Riecoin client has that option correct?
yes I just tested it  Smiley. To learn how to use multi-signature addresses, go here

Also, difficulty is going to halve to about 1456 in 20 something blocks (if my math is correct, that is). Get ready to mine!

Well ok. Guess we have a nice way to do the donations. I will be PMing all those on the list and hopefully we can come to mutual agreement on this. And darn. Hopefully low difficulty doesn't make it easier for people to pump and dump.

Update: Since I've been getting more response than expected for Riecoin Foundation, sign up will close this Sunday and the Riecoin Foundation will begin creating the trustless system for donations. Any suggestions is welcome!

difficulty to drop in 10 hours (at current rate of 6 mins/block)

Thatll suck Sad

Vault of Satoshi (a decently big Canadian exchange) just asked which coins to add. We should make Riecoin be noticed. I am against a whole bunch of exchanges adding us all at once but big exchanges could certainly help us. I'll be writing a nice long reply to them tomorrow but maybe others could today?

Following up on my earlier tracing of offsets and difficulty, here's a new graph:

http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dga/crypto/ric/diff_offset_2014_03_18.png

Looks like within a few days, the low-primorial miners will mostly be gone.

Supercomputing alluded to this, but I think it'll be interesting to see what happens with coprimes (offsets relative to the primorial) other than the first.  The ypool miner and mine both use only the first (+97 for 2310, and +16057 for big primorials).  But a00k's uses a different coprime for each worker.  I'm not sure I see a fundamental advantage to using the coprimes unless we start exhausting the 256 bit nonce space with large primorials and need to search more densely, but it seems like something to keep in mind.

I'll see if I can add a coprime-detector to my analysis code for some graphs next week.  That should also provide a better signature of the miner used to mine the block - interesting stuff.

Wow. Excellent!

new cpuminer uploaded to github  https://github.com/gatra/cpuminer-rminerd

Code:
accepted: 222/222 (100.00%), 42193804 khash/s (yay!!!)

Now I'm debugging something strange: after mining for a while, the miner says it received this packet:
Code:
[2014-03-18 14:58:25] < {"params": [8], "id": null, "method": "mining.set_difficulty"}
setting difficulty to 8, so obviously I didn't find any more shares after this...
looks like I'm back to debugging the server...

EDIT:
indeed.... logs from server:

Code:
2014-03-18 13:57:19,177 DEBUG DBInterface # DB_Mysql_Vardiff INIT
...
...
2014-03-18 13:58:22,251 DEBUG DB_Mysql # Setting difficulty for gatra.user to 8

but I thought difficulty was fixed and vardiff was disabled.... it must be disabled for Riecoin to work.

Keep up the good work dev.!
399  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ••• [ANN][SMC] SmartCoin • KGW • Cryptsy • 10 EXCHANGES ••• on: March 18, 2014, 06:42:27 PM
This is for smartcoin, the dev.

I am thinking of buying a btc worth of SMC at this price buy before I do, I'd like to advise the dev. on one thing (Please don't take it the wrong way or in any personal way). Please refrain from using any abusive languages or profanity. As a dev., you are the brand of Smartcoin as you are the only dev. working on Smartcoin and the creator of Smartcoin. You are the face at the least. Anything you do will be monitored by the community on here and a dev. that uses profanity does not really leaves a good image on the brand Smartcoin. Even with the trolls, the haters, the overzealous people unsatisfied with the current results of smartcoin, please refrain from using profanity as it leaves a bad taste with new and current investors. This is only an advice and you can take it either way, but realize that people are more invested in projects with a competent, professional developer and believe it or not, profanity could be a deciding factor. I have watched this post with awe that the language that you speak to metjisi (however you spelled it) is rude and very unprofessional to Smartcoin brand even though he constantly trolls and is a negative impact on the community. Still, I ask of you from a current small investor of Smartcoin to think of the words you are posting on here because you are the developer of smartcoin.
