381  Other / Off-topic / Re: Question about internet security on: August 21, 2015, 10:34:21 PM
Been using WIFI at my hotel and realized my computer's firewall has been off the whole time for some reason.  Also the WIFI is unsecured network.  Whats the chances I will get compromised or already am compromised?  And what should I do to ensure nothing bad has/will happen?

Thanks!

Unsecured wifi with no firewall gives you good reason to be worried. I would be busy changing all my passwords if I were you.

Hope you didn't have a bitcoin wallet on board or nude photos of the missus. If so, better see if your btc is still intact. Nothing you can do about the photos if they get into the wild.

Invest in a well known VPN service for piece of mind especially when traveling.

Android.

Only because Apple is more of a control freak although google is catching up.
383  Economy / Economics / Re: Minimum wage. on: August 21, 2015, 05:14:28 PM
The working poor.

Governments slap themselves on the back when unemployment numbers go down. Why? Minimum wages and part time work.
These people struggle to put food on the table and often have to work two jobs. Poor wages and little or no benefits.

Meanwhile, corporations laugh all the way to the bank.

Our system has not changed much in 2000 years. It is still the master/slave system but with an intricate smoke screen covering the ugliness.

Bitcoin has a lot more drama than litecoin.  Roll Eyes

this attempted fork shows that anyone can fuck with the coin.

Good point.

I think we should be worried about the future of cryptocurrency.
386  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Moving into LTC until XT issue is resolved? As a safe haven? on: August 19, 2015, 01:30:17 AM
I can see people getting pissed with all this bitcoin drama(I know I am) and moving to an alternative. But it appears many are just selling out for fiat.

I'm not endorsing ltc but it would likely be first choice for many.

I've taken to calling it a "hijack-coin" and people should be very careful supporting it.  Those with large amounts of BTC will try to make it seem like BitcoinXT has a future, just so they can dump all their soon to be worthless hijack-coins to less knowledgeable users.

That's a good reason to stay away from it.  Always assume the worst and hope for the best.
389  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Magnr - World's First Bitcoin Savings Account on: August 12, 2015, 09:07:35 PM
Hello, thank you for your answer Seal.
So, not interesting for me, giving 10BTC to a website in order to win 0.218+BTC at the end of the year...not sure to see the advantage.

Even a poor/bad trader can win more by trading with only 1 BTC in one year on a trading platform and keeping his other btc safe in a personal coldwallet.

But still looking for "people point of view" ;
what are for you customers, the advantages to put 10BTC on the Magnr saving account ?
Thank you

I'm guessing the idea is: if they get more people to deposit btc it will give them more to trade/loan with, hence (if they trade/loan well) offer higher interest rates. If they are not loaning/trading the btc then I would be lost as to what they stand to gain.

Let the ETH clone wars begin

Good times ahead.

Hey Josh you low life. You got an article written about you. Looks like you are not #winning.

now on  to the new scam of the month.... que stoat the shill

I don't think Garza is losing any sleep over the power bill. He is enjoying his ill got riches.

The power company may have won in court but collecting the debt is another thing. Finding Garza, finding the money, and being able to get Garza to a US court are going to be brick walls.

The only "winning" that could happen is: someone unbalanced tracking him down. We can only hope.
392  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum dump starts? on: August 11, 2015, 01:01:40 AM
Nothing more than common sense..  Hugely inflated price due to it being traded only on kraken

Yeah...and Kraken's initial umpity-thousand-confirmation policy - although self-protective - assured a hothouse market with untethered buys but restricted sells. The setup seriously restricted the supply while not limiting the demand. That's why the price of ethers was artificially high from the start.

Not to mention those who were/are not tech savvy enough to get access to their coins. The more I hear about Ethereum the more it stinks.
393  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: what is the best online bitcoin wallet on: August 09, 2015, 03:08:38 AM
I'm not sure blockchain.info is a safe wallet anymore. There were a lot of threads this year about people losing their btc and other problems.

Coinbase seems decent for small amounts. They have a cold storage type of feature and they do insure amounts over $500.

Always use 2FA.

trust me your money is not getting stolen

The only way you are going to get anyone to try your service is to put a substantial amount of btc with a reputable escrow as insurance.
395  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum dump starts? on: August 09, 2015, 02:08:55 AM
Of course its dumping. Every freakin IPO does. Poor bastards who are late to market or holding are going to lose money or baghold.

We will have to open a section " Ethereum Bagholders Anonymous". "Free tissues".
396  Other / Politics & Society / Re: New virus created that can completely wreck Apple computers on: August 09, 2015, 01:53:11 AM
I find this really funny. I remember having a roommate and working in Advertising everyone told me that I needed to have an Apple computer. That was the only way to go. When I asked why their computer was so special and what it could do that might computer was incapable of handling, they usually drew up blank. The only thing that they could tell me was that Apples do not get viruses.

I have been waiting for when someone would come up with a virus for Apple computers. I knew it was just a matter of time. Just because Apple has a different configuration than other computers and cannot get the same viruses as my computer, does not mean that eventually someone would come up with a virus that only attacked Apple computers. Those who bought Apple just because of the virus part are stupid and I thought it was a bad decision.

I hate how Apple works and the cocky attitude that comes with these products. This makes me really happy that the only reason that someone might consider going with this kind of product is now out the door.

You and me both. Apple sucks big time. Their OSX is big, clunky, awkward, and slow.  Each incarnation is worse than the last.

398  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best Altcoin to invest in for 2016 and WHY on: August 08, 2015, 08:39:39 PM
Coins who advertise here have usually no other way to advertise and spread the word, newbies be aware indeed.

All these warnings are fair conciddering the amount of failed coins and black holes your money can get lost in. 'Innovation' is important but when it is used as a coverup or marketed as a major sellingpoint you should dig a little deeper in the true intentions of the developers. Past year this seems to be a strategy because they wanted to look more serious. How many IPO's launched with a great idea to develop and then did not deliver anything ... Indeed, use your brains to select your coins.

But people also should concidder there are plenty of good projects out there. Past half year there is a huge increase in interest from serious people on all levels of societies and all around the world. Blockchain tech and Bitcoin is booming and there are very talented people experimenting and developing incredible things. Don't close your eyes to those projects because of failure or bad intentions from others.

I agree with you again.

Here lies the problem: How to tell the vaporware/scam/plan from a legitimate project?  Fancy website, impressive whitepaper, and youtube videos are not reliable. Scammers are smart.

The best defense is NOT buying into IPO/ICO and anything premined for starters.

Time is your best tool. Wait and watch. Legitimate projects will pass the test of time, have responsive developers and communities, and show progress. Scams and vaporware are normally sniffed out fairly early.

I'm sure most have noticed the rekindled interest in old coins over the last few months. People are getting smarter.

399  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum SCAM Warning! Moderating of ethereum.org for any negative feedback. on: August 08, 2015, 05:52:32 AM
Ethereum is now putting restriction on their reddit page.

What is the Ethereum team so scared of?

They are trying to limit the FUD so the devs have time to dump their eth. Can you blame them?

Will die out like most of these 2.0 coins

I come on the forums and see many threads about this coin. What gives. What makes it so special? I've heard people hype up other coins before. This one is probably no different. Hype. Fud. Controversy. I'm really sick of this pattern in Crypto.

We had the animal coins, the country coins, the color coins, the stealth coins, and now we have the second generation coins. Its cyclic. Could be back to animal coins next month.
