381  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BitInstant extremely poor design, lots of confusion, poor service on: February 11, 2013, 07:59:39 PM
I've tried using bitinstant too over the last couple of days - without much success. I agree with the OP, I was confused about the same things. First my test transfer from mtgox to bitstamp of 25 usd went through without problems. Then I tried some more money and kept getting an error message. Tried it again today with some money and it worked. Tried it a second time and even though bitinstant says the the transfer was okay, I don't have my money in bitstamp and moreover got this error in their confirmation email:

> APIResponse: {"error": {"amount": ["You have only $10.59 available. Check your account balance for details."]}}

Apparently bitinstant never had the funds available in bitstamp to even credit my account!
Now my mtgox code is gone, no cash in bitstamp. Very frustrating stuff.

383  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: February 03, 2013, 10:23:02 AM
Whoever sold to $18 was a dumbass lol

Yea it's funny that in my mind the buyers at that price were the winners of a lottery. Mtgox was just too unresponsive for me to get my buy orders in on time.
384  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-02-01 CalvinAyre.com - Why Bitcoin Can No Longer Be Ignored on: February 02, 2013, 11:20:17 AM
It is Public key Cryptography and only digital signatures, NO ENCRYPTION.

Isn't a digitally signed message the message encrypted with the private key?

Bitstamp. Reliable and fast deposits/withdrawals because of SEPA.

Pfew, I'm glad I was able to pick up some coins around $16. I was afraid of getting left behind!

Can't believe they still have these bugs in their system. Anyway these spikes are usually followed by a massive upswing.
390  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC Adoption Continues: Now Accepted at 4chan on: December 13, 2012, 08:22:29 PM
This is in "Speculation", right?

Anybody wanna draw some arbitrary calculation outta his ass to what extent this will impact prices?

I start!! Grin Grin Grin

If we take the price movement following the wordpress news as reference (5% up in 2 days) and combine it with its page rank on alexa.com (21st) we can calculate the immediate impact of this recent revelation to 0.1% price change (upwards) within about 2 days (990th page rank equals a 47 times weaker effect).

I think you should take into account that 4chan likely has a higher density of computer geeks.
391  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitcoin-Central, first exchange licensed to operate as a bank. This is HUGE on: December 07, 2012, 08:31:45 PM
Not sure if this has been answered yet, but is there an official statement from Aqoba confirming this news?

393  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2012-11-29 LondonNewFinance - Digital Money Seminar (videos) on: November 30, 2012, 12:44:56 PM
I think that comparing mining to "solving mathematical puzzles" gives too much credit to what mining really is. Mathematics is all about recognizing structure in the "puzzle" at hand, while bruteforcing SHA is actually the opposite of that.

edit: I'd think the best way to explain mining to an audience like that is by calling it number crunching.

if you accept that bitcoin is "pure money" then you have to accept that euro is also "pure money"

No I don't.  You don't make the rules.

Schizophrenic?  Grin

I don't understand that gold/btc chart

It says how many btc an ounce of gold has costed over time.

with the $30 spike (Btc price) purposefully not included

Yea, it is a very misleading graph.

397  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] BitcoinStore.com (Beta) - Electronics super store with over 500K items! on: November 28, 2012, 09:42:53 AM
First of all, this is amazing. Exactly what bitcoin needed!

The main menu on the left is very buggy, though. Might want to fix that before beta period ends. For example, submenus will start popping in and out in an endless loop sometimes, even when the mouse has left the menu area.

I agree. Although the idea of the menu is kinda cool, I think it's better if it somehow flipped out to the right. Sometimes the menu doesn't fit on my screen, and then I have to scroll..
Another tiny issue I have is that the default quantity is set to 0, which is misleading because when I press add to cart it does add that item once.

EM, you spend just as much time on these forums as any of us, maybe more.  to what end?

I've also asked myself that a few times. I just don't believe anyone would really waste that much time on a forum talking the price down and not have some sort of stake in it...
