No, what really happened was that the VPS restarted and went down. This resulted in the Mt.Gox API crashing and causing all bitcoins to be lost. 100% true story!

In other news shakaru is still a great guy and he promises to pay everyone back within the next 100 years. Shakaru will make more GLBSE offerings very soon. I recommend everyone to invest in these new offerings. As senbonzakura so wisely put it:

Quote from: senbonzakura
businesses succeed or fail, in this case SDM/SDM.LEVA venture failed. but he has other good assets (the bot) so i am investing in that.

update?
387  Economy / Services / [WTB] Shell Account for BTC on: April 20, 2012, 12:08:30 AM
hi guys - been a looooooong time since i've been on IRC regularly.. which is crazy to say for me considering i was on 24/7 from about 1997 to 2006 or so..   i used to have a collection of crazy shell accounts with all kinds of vhosts etc.. but alot of those people shut down their boxes or just stopped offering shells etc..

So - I want to buy a shell account, mainly for IRC, and want to know who is offering them for BTC monthly?  Doesn't need to be anything special, just something I can run a screen or two on and has BitchX or maybe even some snazzy new IRC client if bx isn't what people use these days..   Might wanna play with some bots or something at some point.. it's been at least 5 years since ive played with eggdrop if that even exists anymore Tongue

stability is key for me.. i want to be able to ssh in, connect to my screen and actually still be connected to irc.. so i don't want a service that is flaky or the admin is constantly rebooting the box or something like that.. would also like access to a cpl vhosts..

so - who wants to sell me a shell?

I am offering one of these for sale:  http://pwnieexpress.com/  Unit fully works, brand new costs $400, asking for 300usd in btc with shipping so like 60btc.  Unit is fully functional, I no longer need the item.  This is not the 3G version of this product, I can add a 1 watt 802.11b/g Alfa adapter for an additional 5btc.

I also have a Nokia 900N with PwnPhone installed, this normally sells for $900 from Pwnie Express, I'll let go of this sweet toy for 100btc.

that is probably the coolest thing I have ever seen on this marketplace!

+1 - neat idea..  i have a netbook setup for basically the same purpose, but neat none the less!
389  Economy / Securities / Re: (TyGrr) TyGrr-Bank 2.5% weekly dividends on: April 18, 2012, 02:45:34 PM

Yeah. They are taking a risk and really I'm shocked to see some of these prices. But it is a free market (other than Nefarios random regulations, more about his newest one later).

hmm.. don't leave us hanging, what's going on now? Tongue

I think it would be very useful to have the following info on portfolio page:
  • 3 additional columns for each portfolio position: 1) weighted price I paid for it; 2) the actual highest bid for it; 3) estimated profit/loss (the difference between 2 and 1 times amount).
  • the estimated value of portfolio (including btc balance)

i think securities, should be directly under marketplace.  I mean, you buy / sell / trade securities..  Marketplace makes the most sense.

Good job Tom!!!  Nice domain acquisitions too!

Some totals of currently displayed information might be a nice touch.  On my account, I'd like to see total fees paid and it would also be cool to see the total amount of BTC volume on the exchange on the "shares" list.

EDIT: Might I also say that I am quite impressed at the speed in which you are improving the exchange.  I keep throwing up new feature ideas, mostly because you keep adding them so quickly.   Smiley

GLBSE 2.1 is going to be a big improvement.... looks wise, and should be much more usable.

would also be cool to have a "total assets" amount like the normal brokerages too.  ie:  something that adds up your holdings according to the current bids, one for each asset, then cumulatively.

395  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: GLBSE - request for next features on: April 11, 2012, 04:04:42 PM
ask / bid per asset available as a 'ticker' - not sure what the name should be but something like
call to http(s)://glbse.com/asset/view/ABC/summary
would return {ABC; 0.26060004; 0.2999}
instead of having to check the whole web page to see if someone put a sathoshi higher bid just a simple check ; )

This would be part of the API

how far off are we from having an API?

hi imsaguy, my portion now belongs to kluge:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=74926.0

thanks
I've now sold that portion in its entirety to Teek. He now holds the entirety of what was originally payb.tc's debt.

I'm going to need a payment address.

I'll post one later tonight.  Thanks imasguy!

399  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: GLBSE 2.0 open for testing on: April 08, 2012, 03:22:53 PM
I'd go with GMT/UTC 00:00 as "new day" personally... any other time is as arbitrary anyways but this allows for some "chunking".

The "new day" works great on exchanges with high volume and a typical news cycle.  After giving this some thought, I don't think the "new day" approach would be typically beneficial for the GLBSE.  I don't even think my "48-hour average" approach would really capture enough data to show whether or not a stock is increasing or decreasing in value.  If it were my decision, I think I would use a 7-day running average as a base to judge whether or not a stock is increasing or decreasing.  That should capture enough trades to actually display a useful metric (green/yellow/red).  As the exchange gets more popular and volume increases, this time could be reduced.

+1  7 day is what it needs for now
