381  Other / Off-topic / Predict the day Matthew N. Wright deletes his BitcoinTalk account. on: November 16, 2011, 08:10:49 PM
168QXzVRKmFwDe7FowBkTA8t9Af1QjMZdg

The game is quite simple: Whoever predicts the day and time Matthew N. Wright deletes his account* on the BitcoinTalk forum (or comes closest to it), wins all the Bitcoins in the address above.

How do you play?

You simply send Bitcoins to the address above with the last digits corresponding to the date and time you believe Matthew will leave in the Middle-endian (month, day, year; e.g. 04/22/96) time format. If you match the date he deletes his account or come closest to it, you will be sent the jackpot.

Let's say I believe Matthew will delete his account on 12/12/2012 at 12PM:

I'll send .12121212 Bitcoins to the address above making my prediction, with the last 4 set of digits being the specific time.

Please note that a specific time is optional. If you do it, it must be based on 24 Hour time (e.g. Midnight = 24:00).

Let's say somebody else also believes Matthew will leave on this date. They can simply bid a little more at .011212121212 Bitcoins. If Matthew happens to leave at or nearest to that time, the higher bidder will win and the jackpot will be sent to the corresponding address.

This will all be verified through the Bitcoin blockchain that cannot be arbitrarily modified, viewable at http://blockexplorer.com/.

What if you just want to increase the chances of Matthew deleting his account by giving such an action greater monetary incentive? Simply dump Bitcoins into the address without an intelligible prediction.

Why should we trust you to payout the jackpot to the correct winner?

I have an excellent reputation on this forum. My greatest example includes taking out a 100+ BTC loan from the moderator Theymos to short-sell Bitcoins. Every Bitcoin was returned. Contact me for additional references.

Anyways, I will be curious to see how this turns out. Have fun!

I disagree with you based on your premise that there will ever be incentive to lower the debt. Our monetary policy is provided by a private organization that thrives on debt and they own the majority of it: It's called The Federal Reserve. The greater the debt, the larger the amount of the US's wealth they own. They'll happily hold claim over the political collateral that is the US and its citizenry any day over being paid off.

Your dream is a false one. The truth is the greater the debt, the greater our benefactor's power. Little can stop this machine especially the pretentious old men on capitol hill. They were the ones that signed this nation over to The Federal Reserve in the first place.

The only conclusion is the banker's continuing their endless cycle of laundering through their international monetary regime. They continue to dilute our money while they increase theirs (Gold). As they do this, the further we dive into slavery all made possible by worthless paper we consider wealth.

In summary, don't put your faith in puppets.

I question the legitimacy of who Osama Bin Laden is overall.

You didn't answer my question.
I don't know. I certainly don't trust the US's reporting considering Osama has only benefited their destructive war policy.
385  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 'reset' of money? on: November 16, 2011, 06:37:09 PM
Wouldn't that just be a highly temporary solution, as people dying, children being born, and man's natural tendancy to greed would eventually bring imbalance that forces trade and sharing, which would eventually require management and assistance for fees which in turn would create hoarding, grouping and people starting their own governments that would eventually end up similar to the way things are today?

Reset all you want, the system isn't broken-- we are.

Greed is generally a wonderful thing, Matthew. In order to gain wealth, one must first provide an equitable return. Our technology and first-world perspective of luxury would inevitably lead to desire of genuine compassion and this coupled with a third-world longing for the luxury of the first-world would only lead to success. Given proper outlets that allow people to build their skills -- which would be inevitably opened due to no restrictions on labor -- a wealthier world would be produced.

We are not broken but we are not perfect. We have achieved much over the past few centuries and the median wealth has increased for everybody. The only issue is monetary and economic policy has been centralized in the hands of the few. Wealth creation has been artificially placed into a pie tin. Irrational hoarding is a non-existent issue in a free world where wealth can be created with little effort.

I can only see progress in a hypothetical revamped world. Man is fine. He just has semi-permanent parasites at the moment.

Bitcoin isn't money. It's signed certificates of speech.

If anybody tries to touch it, I cite The First Amendment.

Theft is never justified.

Really? Never? You can't think of a single situation where theft could be justified?
Nope. Unless you hate life and believe an organism has no inherent right to sustain.

Huh? I'm sure there was a point in there somewhere. Care to elaborate?

If an organism has a right to live and sustain, it must be fully entitled to the resources it claims.
I'm an organism and I claim everything, known and unknown, seen and unseen...Most of it is tangible and enforcable.

No, it isn't.

Isn't tangible? Or isn't enforceable?
Well, it's certainly tangible. And enforceable? You're all stealing, and you won't stop. I should just get a BFG and go postal on all of you. Or do you propose that I'm not fully entitled to my claim?

Both.

I am an organism and I claim Alaska.

Dibs.

Tangible and enforceable claims.

...snip... Of course we know there is no objective meaning or value. We don't need a lesson in that.

Then why do you post?

For the same reasons I don't commit suicide.

They have little to no incentive to distort information elsewhere. Russia is pretty sovereign to foreign interests.

Do you believe Osama bin Laden died this year and in the way the US Government reported it?

I mean, fuck man. Are you just trolling?

What? "Since nothing matters, every argument is dead."

Why the hell are you even here? Just cut and paste that quote right there and never type anything else.

We may have gotten off track, but it was an interesting track, and substantive, with the exception of your contributions. Get the hell out of these forums, Atlas. You have nothing to add around here with your crap.

You guys are barking up the wrong tree, entirely. The important point is to ask yourself about property rights. Real, economic property rights. Not free market property rights. Not legally defined property rights. The kind of right that specifies ONLY (and I mean only, Atlas) a measurable ability to control a resource, under whatever circumstances.

Thus, in this conception, if you and a friend find a briefcase full of gold in the woods, who owns it? In this example, the one with the bigger machine gun. This is the kind of property right I'm discussing.

When you talk about these issues, the idea of "theft" becomes extremely interesting, and only relatable to modern law; was the appropriation of Native land in the US theft? Was it an efficient (i.e. less wasteful) use of the land by transferring property rights (THROUGH FORCE, ATLAS, NOT LAW) from those who couldn't defend it to those who could? Was it right?

You have to recognize that on some level, people are uncomfortable with this low-level idea of might makes right, because it's violent and power-consolidating, which reduces choice. You have to consider some kind of collective mechanism if you want to move beyond that, and if you do, there's no way to guarantee perfect distribution.
Heh, as a nihilist and an admirer of Ragnar Redbeard, I agree with you. So the most powerful whim wins. Gotcha. There is little to argue here. If we bring the argument to nihilism, there is little point. I guess the thread is over.

I mean, fuck, man. Are you just trolling? Wasn't it clear we were trying to justify our moral preferences from the beginning? Of course we know there is no objective meaning or value. We don't need a lesson in that.

Nope.

I would almost suggest Atlas get a restraining order instead of just a defamation suit. I've mentioned before, you can't change people, no matter how hard you try, and especially online. People can only change themselves. It ironic Matthew would say Atlas is overvaluing himself, since from the amount of time and energy that Matthew pours into Atlas's life, it's pretty clear that Matt is quite obsessed with Atlas. I can't begin to guess why, but these slap fights are almost like watching to elementary school kids with one having a crush, not knowing how to deal with it, and bickering with the other instead, like some boy pulling a girl's hair just to get her attention.

This thread is about Atlas crying out for attention, not me. My thread was an honest question regarding the allowance of sock puppet accounts here. Also, I kept my discussion about Atlas' promises in PM only bringing what myself and numerous others feel is blatant theft to the public when it felt it was the right thing to do.

Atlas posts provocative topics for people to discuss. His philosophy is not unique, but a lot of people see it as strange or extreme, and thus give them a lot of attention, after which Atlas continues to debate with them. Sure, he may answer in an "I am absolutely right about this" tone, and his cold logic no doubt is persieved as somewhat shocking, but seems he's only interested in discussing provocative topics, or in getting involved in some enterpreneurial venture. Both perfectly fine qualities. I don't really see the cry for attention from his end. There ARE a LOT of other posters that seem to completely obsess over every one of his posts, mostly it seems due to his rather uncommon philosophy. Too often it's also him posting that he is happy with who he is and what he does, and others, perhaps not happy or satisfied themselves, trying to bring himdown to their level. Just because you went through shit due to your own personal similar quirks doesn't mean he will too. And if he does, so what? It builds character, or whatever. Your obsession with him seems almost disturbed. I'm not kidding when I say yu sound like a girl completely romantically obsessed with some guy of whom you've built an ideal image in your head, and are now trying to change when you realized he doesn't fit that image. He's not your lover, and you can't change him. You have nothing to offer him that he would want in exchange from deviating where he is comfortable. Also, redirecting the DNS is not transfer of ownership. If you didn't sign any contracts, it's on you for being stupid enough to set up any serious business agreements with an allegedly emotionally unstable 17yo.

Thank you, Rassah. I couldn't of said it any better.
