381  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Good Speeds on Sapphire 5830's 311.4MHash/s on: June 05, 2011, 06:55:24 AM
Both cards on 1 motherboard no volt mods stock (1.163).

Very tempted to try and see what 1.25V will allow me to overclock the card to, STABILY.

GA P55-USB3 no separation cables. I have Sustained these speeds for about 2 days now.

I ran the cards solid at 1000/300 for about 2weeks, with no issues. Couple days ago decided to try Phoenix miner. After some trial and error found out that POCLBM gives me about 5-8Mhash more then phatk.

I have the Mobo on a tabletop, no case with two 120MM Fans blowing on the cards, with the GPU Cooling Fans at 80%.

What operating system are you using?

I am using linuxcion.. and if you set multiple cards to 950/300 then it will freeze guaranteed within a few hours (for myself at least).

How hot are your cards running at full speed?

I am not worried...

I believe tycho has our best interests in mind.. and his own as well.

He stands to make much more money over the long run by running a successful pool than fucking us all over right now.

Within 1-2 months I would say that pool competition will have increased greatly and this will no longer be a problem.

Kudos to tycho for running such a top notch pool.

Keep up the great work OP!
384  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Mining... sense in applying arctiv silver? on: June 05, 2011, 06:50:45 AM
Wink And loose the guarantee?

High densitiy mining. Getting rigs next week. I just wonder. In the past graphics cards were notoriously crappy with their cooling "elements". How is it now?

Plus, we still loose the guarantee, correct?

I have heard that you can lower stock temps 20-30 degrees... so it would most definitely be "awesome"... whether or not it is "worth it" from a business stand point is up to you. For me it is not. I can buy another card for the cost of two cooling fans... and space is not an issue for me.
385  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Project - You donate, I ride my bike a mile! [Help needed] on: June 05, 2011, 06:46:54 AM
...

Usually people accept pledges/donations for biking/running/excercies because the athlete really cares about a cause (cancer, leukemia, etc..) and is willing to donate all of his or her donations towards that cause... not because some bum wants to get drunk and party across europe..?

Mind = blown.
386  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Good Speeds on Sapphire 5830's 311.4MHash/s on: June 05, 2011, 06:41:03 AM
Can you seriously sustain those speeds? Are you changing the voltages?

I can only sustain 950mhz core/300mhz memory at the most.. and even that cuts out after a few hours (with stock voltages).

Are the cards all squeezed into one motherboard or are they separated from each other with cables?
387  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Can you stuff a new video card in an ancient machine? on: June 05, 2011, 06:39:29 AM
You can always try!

So long as you have a pcie slot and enough power you are good to go.
388  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: anyone got 4 5830s in a machine? in a case on: June 05, 2011, 06:38:40 AM
I know you can use cables so you don't have to have a motherboard that have all the slots but I was wondering what strategies or things or cases people are using to fit them in.  Since I need to place them somewhere that isn't where I live, I can't have it open air otherwise I would do it.

Why can't you do open air?

4 cards in squeezed together inside of a case will not work... not at stock clocks at least... you will probably have to underclock them (gpu and mem) to get your temperatures to an acceptable level for running 24/7...

So has this thing come to fruition yet or what?! I have told some of my buddies in SV to look out for it!
391  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Beginner's Guide To Voltage Tweaking Your GPUs? on: June 05, 2011, 12:45:38 AM
Do you use Windows or Linux?
With Linux, it's quite difficult to overvolt your GPUs, you'll need to flash the GPU BIOS (see my sig). On Windows, there are dozens of manuals floating around, just google it or scroll through my guide, it has a link to one of them somewhere in it.

That the crashing occurs later means that your GPU is running at it's limit and since load aloways fluctuates a little you are pushed over the limit randomly. And at one time it's too much for your GPU to handle and it freezes.

I am familiar with both operating system platforms.

I edit my bios files using RBE in windows, flash them to the cards using rbe or atiflash, and then mine using linux...

Are you saying that my GPU is running at it's "electrical" limit and I could possibly increase that?

Basically I am an overclocking newb who is comfortable playing with core/memory clocks but am unsure as to what will allow me to increase my core clock to a higher speed and keep it stable. If the temperature is ok... power seems to be the only inhibiting factor in my mind no?
392  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / If you relaly cared about your friends, you would suggest that they buy Bitcoins on: June 04, 2011, 09:18:13 AM
I am...

I have convinced my brother and some of his friends...

My friend and some of his brothers...

My parents...

My girlfriend...

Anybody I know, care about, and can use a computer I have mentioned bitcoins to - because I don't want to be some billionaire enjoying his wealth alone!!!

If you can convince any of your friends to simply buy $50 USD worth of BTC... you will be doing yourself, themselves, and the entire world a HUGE favor!

Get going!!
393  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are we getting a lot of "eastern world" coverage? on: June 04, 2011, 09:15:04 AM
Hehe, could be!

Technically it's almost noon in Munich at the moment... so maybe it's just europeans that are pumping the price up... and not "eastern worlders".
394  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Large German lobby organization supports ban on Bitcoins on: June 04, 2011, 09:13:51 AM
I have a feeling bitcoin is about to get a lot more press (good and bad) than we are currently receiving!
395  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the average Bitcoin user like in the physical world? on: June 04, 2011, 09:03:44 AM
I am 25 - self employed - take a strong stance against authority - love math and sciences - did great in school - love to take risks - love money - love freedom - like to protect myself in whatever way possible.
396  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: btcENco.de - Shortener and more on: June 04, 2011, 09:01:22 AM
Hey, though there are some shorteners around, i made my own with these cool features:

- easy to remind URL: btcENco.de (that's "btc encode", just in case  Wink)

- gives you (1) a short URL (2) a token to decode on the site and (3) a qr-code

- great privacy with nothing stored than the provided address and the generated token

- no ads, no Google Analytics

- lightweight, great for mobile devices

Just head over to btcENco.de

Not yet at least Wink

Great idea though! Keep it up!

398  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: security concern on: June 04, 2011, 08:58:51 AM
IS there any mechanism currently in place which would prevent someone from writing a worm or virus purpose is to seek out and steal, wallet.dat ?

Seems like if someone gets that file your completely F'd.

Just throwing that out there we might need some way to prevent this simple attack if there isn't one already.

Is there any mechanism currently in place which would prevent someone from writing a worm or virus who's purpose is to seek out and steal your banking password?

Seems like if someone gets that password you're completely fucked...

400  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Are we getting a lot of "eastern world" coverage? on: June 04, 2011, 08:29:45 AM
I am a night hawk... and it seems to be that the surges in price occur during the western world's downtime... for example.. I have watched mtgox jump from 14 to 17 dollars between 1 and 4 am EST...

Could it be that we are getting a lot of coverage/press/support in the eastern world?
