Okay, here is my thoughts. Since this is the Newbie area you can assume, unless it is a site you can log into and go...most newbies including myself do not know of the mining software you refer to. We are real dumb. We need it spelled out for us. What mining software do we need and where is it. I told you we were dumb. *hoped I would have more people joining us!* Haha, hey no problem!!! I love helping newbies out!! Basically imho cgminer is the best. It depends on your knowledge base, but (FEEL FREE to correct, add or negate anything I say BTC world..) in my personal experience CGMiner is the best, and GUIMiner as the second. CGMiner Forum Link https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=28402.0Windows download link directly from their forum post http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/2.11/cgminer-2.11.0-win32.zip--- GUIMiner Forum Link https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3878.0Windows download link directly from their forum post https://github.com/downloads/Kiv/poclbm/guiminer-20121203.exe-- Now with the CGMiner, to make it short and sweet. Browse to the directory you have extracted all the files from to using a command prompt, once there type in 'cgminer' without the ' ' and then it will guide you through the rest Host: mine.btcminers.net:9332 User: bitcoinaddress <--- here in the command prompt you can copy and paste your address from your bitcoin client of choice, right click in the black and hit paste Password: anything Press enter. There are additional settings/displays and what not with it, more extensive details listed in their forums. I would write them out, but that would just be completely redundant. -- GUIMiner It has an interface, pretty easy to use.. Host: mine.btcminers.net Port: 9332 Username: bitcoinaddress <-- copy/pasta Password: anything Hit, "Start Mining" -- If anyone has anything to add/share to this, feel free. Just what I use personally are on or the other.

Anyone having any problems with the server or anything? I have a web dev starting to work on a website for us tomorrow, so we'll get a decent site up and running with our forums as well.

How exactly do you start? I can't find a sign up link. Remember, I am a newbie, so I have no clue. , Couple friends of mine and I have a P2Pool mining pool running. Care to join us? Mine.BTCMiners.net:9332 Username: YourBitcoinAddress Password: Whatever Website and such coming soon, though stats can be seen as usual per any other P2Pool. http://mine.btcminers.net:9332/There is no sign up, you just use your bitcoin address that your receive bitcoins to, as your username and come up with any password. Literally anything, because if your password was looked up, the only thing they could do is mine under your bitcoin address, and to be honest, what's wrong with that, right? ha Point your miner to: mine.btcminers.net:9332 username: bitcoin address password: whatever

Are there fees?
Don't think you can on P2Pool
|
|
|
We have a few miners! But we would like a lot more
|
|
|
Why not just use an existing pool?
What are the specs of the systems you're running?
What sort of tracking do you offer?
You could, just offering! Specs of system tracking all within the stats page, our other pool topic: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=171024.0

I'm in GMT +8. Now it seems just we 2, and a high DOA: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- P2Pool BTC

I do also hope to have a bigger hash rate as well! That's why I brought it up, so people can join and raise that hashing rate!

maybe your pool can support stratum.
It does. *EDIT* It's in the bold, but also I'm not also trying to say my pool is somehow better, I do believe all current P2Pool's Pools <--Tongue Twister. Are all Stratum if I do understand that correctly. cgminer version 2.11.4 - Started: [2013-04-08 19:52:58] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- (5s):59.22M (avg):57.56Mh/s | A:257 R:4 HW:0 U:0.8/m WU:0.8/m ST: 2 SS: 0 NB: 47 LW: 8171 GF: 0 RF: 0 Connected to 127.0.0.1 diff 1 with stratum as user 15RYWA3zWNoNrXLzZEjUdDwB Block: 013ce852cc95753d... Well done! I know lots of people like p2pool, but they cannot join p2pool for their ability, or for their net work costs is paid by byte. Your pool is suitable for them.
Right on, be happy to have them! I can say now that on Wednesday sometime throughout the day there will be a short downtime, as this is ran from my home connection and is currently a mere 3Mbps down and 1.5Mbps up. Come Wednesday that will be increased to 75Mbps down and 15+Mbps up. The server specs are as follows: *EDIT* --Hosted in the Midwest US-- Intel Core i5 @ 2.66GHz 4 Cores 1TB 10K RPM SATA II HDD 8GB DDR3 Memory (as of Wednesday 4/11/2013) 75Mbps down, 15+Mbps upstream. IF and when the capacity is reached, I would then be willing to colo it, which would cost me $50/month, so as long as I would get some donations to cover the monthly fees; I'd consider colo'ing the server elsewhere for better network speeds! But anyone is welcome, the more the marrier!
