381  Economy / Speculation / Re: $150 will signal new trend on: May 28, 2013, 02:28:26 AM
The dump surprised me a little -- although I should be used to them by now. Held, as usual, so no skin off my nose... but I do wonder as to what the dumper(s) were trying to achieve.

Volume was low as it was a long weekend, but the rest of the week looked potentially positive after the weekend's rally and with the sign of volume returning.

But all the dump is likely to do is remove the wind from the market. As we've found from the previous dumps, they no longer cause any long-term significant downward price movement following the dump.

This results in a stalemate, with bulls unwilling to buy from fear of seeing someone dump to manipulate, and bears unwilling to sell as they know the price won't go down.

So, what? Do we say hello to another 3 weeks of 0-volatility and 0-volume?

I really don't like the manipulators. They're basically crapping in their own playground.

383  Economy / Economics / Re: AUD is falling! lucky I have bitcoin on: May 27, 2013, 07:17:44 AM
Australia has been one of the few safe havens during the financial crisis.

So with AUD down, commodities down, stocks down....

What's left? Cryptocurrencies of course...
384  Economy / Speculation / Re: Trouble for BTC in China? on: May 25, 2013, 03:53:28 AM
I was in China a few weeks ago, In my hotel I could get Bitcoin news, but on other networks it wasn't available.
And www.btcchina.com was not available.

That's because btcchina gets DDOSed and moves behind cloudflare, which can be patchy from some networks.

It doesn't appear to be blocked.
385  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] RMBTB.com: New China Bitcoin exchange, 0.1BTC / CNY 100 giveaway on: May 24, 2013, 09:57:11 AM
Thanks. Yes the site is completely bi-lingual.

I'm not sure of the problem with the domain name -- the name is quite memorable in Chinese -- btb is pinyin transliteration of 比特币, and there is more than one pun in the name....

We don't trade CNC or CHNcoin; may be a misunderstanding. :-)

We do have a trollbox.... but that's where the similarities with btc-e end I think...

387  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.info - Bitcoin Block explorer & Currency Statistics on: May 24, 2013, 08:28:04 AM
I wouldn't read too much into it, it is likely only one carrier. I'll switch china bound SMS messages to tropo as a workaround.

I've never heard of China ISPs or carriers issuing warnings. It just doesn't happen. You just get blocked with no warning. It's totally opaque. So this seems very odd. "China Telecom Authority" seems spurious as well.

Someone's trolling Twilio.
388  Economy / Speculation / Re: Trouble for BTC in China? on: May 24, 2013, 08:22:19 AM
This is not how blocking/censorship in China works.

China Telecom and their peers never issue lists or warnings to sites. There is never any official list. You just find yourself blocked one day.

The decisions are taken behind closed doors, applied through peer pressure, and there is no recourse. The carriers certainly don't contact service providers and give them a heads-up.

So the message from Twilio is very strange. All China exchanges are still up and running.

I suspect this is either:
a) a regulatory authority outside china applying pressure; or
b) a competitor to an exchange trying to gain an unfair advantage.

Furthermore, assume for a second that blocking wasn't an opaque black box: Why would an authority contact a foreign-owned SMS provider rather than exchanges themselves? Or the payment providers? Nothing about it makes sense.

if we can keep up this slow and steady action we've been seeing during the weekend, i think next week will be very interesting   Cool

I think people have been saying next week will be interesting for a few weeks now. I think we are starting to see a nice stabilization and if we do see any drastic spikes upwards out of speculation we can expect to land somewhere around where we are at currently.

well I'm saying next week today...
the prospect of cheap coins was the only thing that was holding us back..... people are confused....

its like they forget what's really happening here....
Wink

That's fantastic! The revolution keeps picking up steam.

100 radio stations is one thing, when will bitcoin get it's own superbowl add?

It got it's own section in the Financial Times: http://www.ft.com/intl/indepth/bitcoin :-) Not very nice articles in there... but it's still quite a milestone.

现在有,或者有打算做交易API吗?

目前有数据API 还没有交易api
391  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: May 23, 2013, 06:37:08 AM
Conspiracy theory # 1337: Mt.Gox is artificially holding the price stable until their new platform is released and can handle the volume associated with the coming rallies/crashes

Speaking of which, anyone know when the platform is supposed to be released?

If that were true, there would have been volume... but there wasn't.

Anyway, looks like the price is finally beginning to wake up.
392  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] RMBTB.com: New China Bitcoin exchange, 0.1BTC / CNY 100 giveaway on: May 23, 2013, 06:25:04 AM
Hi,

We plan to institute a sliding scale later on -- we certainly have the ability to set per-user fees.

Right now, since we charge no deposit/withdrawal fee, our marketing expenses are huge and income still effectively 0 -- but once they converge we will definitely be working to look after our big fish :-)
393  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] RMBTB.com: New China Bitcoin exchange, 0.1BTC / CNY 100 giveaway on: May 23, 2013, 02:53:27 AM
Thank you very much -- do let us know if you have any problems. We switch on the trade engine tomorrow, and will be giving away 0.5BTC and a year of waived trading fees to the first people who have their trades executed!

just executed my first trade and no problems at all; very nice system with great details over a well thought out ui. would absolutely recommend this over btcchina.

Moving or withdrawing coins from our blockchain.info account requires intervention of an RMBTB administrator, with a separate key and password that is never stored electronically.

what is the average turnaround time for a withdrawal to btc? will requests be processed 24 hours a day? your security practices are the best i've seen, however, I am concerened how that will affect convenience.

just submitted a withdrawal request that shows "Awaiting Review" (23 May 04:36:05).
i'll update here the time that it takes to deliver.

Thank you very much! We still have a long way to go -- lots of small bugs to iron out with charts etc.... Oh... and volume! Sorry you didn't get a good deal!

I saw your deposit request this morning, processed it about 8am. :-)

Once we get busy (hopefully), we plan to process CNY deposits and BTC withdrawals every hour or so, except at the dead of night... We're putting in place processes so we can get to them as quickly as possible. CNY deposits should be fast too, during working hours and hopefully not more than a few hours' wait...

Nice, Good to see more CNY exchanges! Massive untapped potential for Bitcoin.
Thank you!
There are lots of exchanges springing up, and lots of in-fighting, DDoSing going on, etc...

We're hoping that with a bit of planning behind RMBTB we will rise up beyond that and provide a safer place for people to Trade in/with China...

Great work BitPirate!

Just registered and I look forward to my first trade.

Best of luck to you and your team Cheesy

good red skin

Thanks :-)

And a "secret" feature... if you're viewing the site in Chinese, red is up, green is down. In English, green is up, red is down :-)
