...even if you download them from the official website it still is not safe until you cryptographically verify its digital signature. the only thing that you should ever worry about is acquiring the real public key of the developer...as long as PGP is not broken (which it is not) there is no way to fake this...

I agree with you and we should do all we can to inform at least Bitcointalk members about this and educate further on how to use PGP encryption and programs like Kleopatra.
As we all know the most used OS is Windows and this is not so easy to verify signatures on this system for beginners or not tech-savvy people.

To be honest, I have never checked signatures until today. Already downloaded Kleopatra (a couple of times) and started the process (with the help of a how-to tutorial) but always gave up halfway.
I am sure, I have failed every time because is just not easy to set up PGP and I wasn't needed it very badly, for example, to secure all my BTC holdings. In such circumstances, I would do it for sure, no matter how time-consuming and complicated it could be.

This is not the first time we have problems with malicious links to wallets on the web and here on Bitcointalk. I think I have seen already all kinds of wallet hacks: changed links in quotes, changed links in ANN and bounty threads, posting links from hacked accounts, malicious updates and pop-ups, fake redirects, counterfeit signatures, etc. You name it - I have seen it.

Still, I haven't heard about signatures check using PGP, until a couple of months ago, when the problems with Mycelium wallet exploded. I am very long and frequently here on the forum and from what I have seen, everybody was always using VirusTotal, as a reference tool, to check the wallets for viruses and verify them. In all wallets reviews posted here, I have never seen a single PGP signature check to be made.

Sometimes viruses were found by VirusTotal in wallets and I have written about this, to warn other members. I just couldn't believe, that some of them tried to defend these wallets, vouched they were clean and all found viruses are only "false-positive" and totally not harmful  Grin. In the beginning, there were no viruses in wallets at all, even false-positives, but somebody started misinformation (on purpose), wrote a couple of posts, articles, answers about false-positive matches on VirusTotal. This way changed the opinion of enough members, to bring chaos and total misinformation about false-positives virus warnings in the scanned wallets. In my opinion, it was made on purpose and we have missed it on our watch.

I think, the best way to handle this is an informational campaign, to let people know about the need for PGP signature check and how to do it correctly. There is actually no other way, to be relatively safe when downloading something online, as to do the PGP signature check every single time. We should talk about this and keep repeating on every occasion, especially in the Beginners and scam sections. If we start to do it, I am sure, members will create a lot of additional content about PGP (tutorials, translations, guides to Kleopatra, etc) and the word will keep spreading further kinda automatically.

...all of these users are at fault for not using the common sense. If you had looked at your address bar, you would have noticed that you were not on the official website...

I would agree with you until I have seen this post:

The most tricky phising website i've heard was this one. Looks like Binance.com but there are no "n". This is strange n with dot at the bottom.

How to deal with such a phishing adress? Those dots are almost unnoticable.

Very good that you shared this.

I had to look for quite some time on the URL to spot the difference and to be honest I wasn't able to...

Even after I have read about the dots, still I was trying to clean the screen because I was sure it is something on the screen.

I think this one is the biggest threat from all fake URL's I have seen so far and people should be aware of these.

This is what I am calling a really fast answer. How did you manage to do it so fast? Anyways, thank you very much this is a really interesting graph.
3825  Local / Polski / Re: Polish Hyde Park on: August 24, 2019, 12:30:22 PM
Mam ciekawe zestawienie meritów użytkowników TyanowyJanusz i Cryptovigi.

LoyceV vs DdmrDdmr (and get your own Merit graph: up to 10 users per graph).

Wait, so that bot does work with native bitcointalk quotes?

Yes, it's true because I am getting notifications. Just quote me now and I will publish PM screen from the Maggiordomo bot.

Sometimes, it looks like dust on computer screen...

Exactly, even after I have read about the dots, still I was trying to clean the screen. First, with a finger  Wink and later with a special spray. I was sure is just dust.

I think this one is the biggest threat from all fake URL's I have seen so far.

Hi, Loycev I don't know if you still accept requests for comparisons? If yes please show me the graph for TytanowyJanusz and Cryptovigi.

In numbers, this is 1925869 vs 1697068.
3829  Economy / Reputation / Re: Is Lauda still on DT? (taking requests!) on: August 24, 2019, 10:01:50 AM
...Where's Lauda been lately, anyway?...

I think Lauda made the best decision possible and left all the drama in meta, reputation, and scam boards. This approach works and actually, there are almost no threads with Lauda username in the topic line.

From some time Lauda was posting regularly in technical and altcoins discussion but I see in the last days a comeback and couple of posts in scam and reputation boards again  Cool.
Watch out haters Lauda is going to get you anyway, sooner or later  Grin Grin Grin.

From a very long time was quiet on the forum and I haven't seen so many accusations against Lauda as it was in 2017/2018.
To be honest lately, there were only some random threads about involvement in DT1 or the flags created by Lauda, nothing more.

Seems like the Lauda drama is coming to the end finally.
3830  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAM: MinexPay crypto debit card by minexpay.com / Minexcoin on: August 24, 2019, 09:35:27 AM
I see all these addresses OP published in the opening post and thanks to his great detective work managed to track everything.

We can clearly see that pre-mined MNX was sent and sold on exchanges. Was Minexcoin team entitled to do this at the time?

I think this is the most important question to answer. Of course, I understand how catastrophic impact it has on the price but first, we need to know the answer to be able to proceed further.
3831  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Minexcoin | Minexpay on: August 24, 2019, 09:22:51 AM
Never thought that Minexcoin will end like this after such a tremendous beginning. I am here from the start and have seen this euphoria on ATH.

Still holding my full (actually worthless) bag of MNX from the bounty. I was so stupid that I haven't sold on ATH  Cheesy. I am sure Boris did   Wink.

Quote
...Tradesatoshi, Cryptopia, nova czy Livecoin...
Giełdy, którym ufam i trzymam tam dość pokaźne sumy do trejdingu to Coinbase, Coinbase Pro, Binance, Kraken i to wszystko.

Szczególnie, jeżeli chodzi o Okex i instant support w online czacie. Niespotykane normalnie chyba nigdzie. Naprawdę giełdy wysokiego standardu, jeżeli chodzi o obsługę klienta i same platformy do handlowania.
3833  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HUC] Huntercoin - Worlds First Decentralized Game/World on the Blockchain on: August 24, 2019, 08:55:57 AM
Not sure what you are talking about here...
Like domob mentioned above, Mikhail (thecoder) died very suddenly shortly after Huntercoin launched. It was a pretty big shock for everyone. He had the coins and private keys, so it was all lost...

My bad, I heard so many times about lost keys by the developers that I don't believe it anymore because every time it turns out to be a lie in the end.
I wasn't aware of the Huntercoin sad story about the death of the developer in the early stages of the project.

I assume everything was checked and theses coins were never moved from these wallets?

As I said already is not the first time I hear such story and always coins finally were moved from these wallets to exchanges and sold.
This happens almost always in the end (postponed exit scam) or when the project has bad times and is at the straight way to oblivion.
3834  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Quote Notifier on: August 24, 2019, 07:34:30 AM
...All these mention bots are kind of useless when you don't know who has their mentions enabled, and who doesn't. (edit:This bot only does quotes, but i also saw a different bot that did @*s)...

I think you are talking about Maggiordomo bot managed by the member Piggy.

Maggiordomo is the best solution for notifications on the forum because is the most advanced bot and notifies about all possible mentions.
Quotes, custom quotes, edits, mentions of username, username with @, profile link. Notifications are sent by PM or in the Telegram app.

I think OP can look into Maggiordomo bot because it should be very interesting for him to know how Piggy was able to get all of these mentions to work.

Of course, if somebody hasn't enabled it then is kinda useless, but this is so easy to set up that I think, every member who knows about, already have it working. I was missing many discussions because I didn't know that somebody mentioned me, quoted my posts or even only add my profile link in some scraped file. To be honest Maggiordomo notified me 2 times about winning in a promotion (150$ and 100$) which I was not aware of. Signed up and forgot about after some time, when I have won my signup post was quoted and bot let me know about this.

Notifier bot is really powerfull toll and should be added as a standard feature on the forum.

I would advise you not to advertise your exchanges here, we have a completely different project and another topic that we are actively discussing with the guys.

You are breaking forum rules (bumping, multi-posting) and spam this thread with your signature when post 9 times in a row.

I have seen that you are still new here, so I wanted to remind you about this because many newbies don't know the forum rules.

But you try to be sarcastic and funny, so let's look what would happen next. I assume, nothing good for you.

PS
Here is an example of post published by an established member @Loycev, who is posting multiple answers to many members (at the same time) only in one post, as it should be and as forum rules say.

What you are doing is multiposting and is not allowed on the forum. Even worse because is against the forum rules and you can be punished especially that you post 7 posts in a row.

This should be one long post with all quotes and answers inside. You are still Junior member so I guess didn't know about this.

I would suggest to edit one post and delete others before moderators will step in.

3839  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ⭐️ [ANN] [STO] Cancer Treatment Proven Since '09 ⭐️ MINIMUM INVESTMENT ONLY $90 ⭐️ on: August 23, 2019, 04:14:31 PM
...are you saying that if you had spent years developing this treatment that uses in combination various chemotherapy drugs along with one other drug that has been used daily for over 25 years that you would just go out and tell everyone how to use these two drugs...

Of course not but there are multiple ways to secure your product (in this case treatment) with special trading marks, licenses or even patents.

This is a simple and honest answer. I think it would be hard for you to convince me that there is no legal way to secure your product.

Just after one treatment, your special formula will be lost. If this is so special then they would send somebody who will make the treatment and describes everything with details later on.
3840  Local / Polski / Re: Pospekulujmy o aktualnej i przyszłej cenie BTC. on: August 23, 2019, 01:11:59 PM
ciach
