Thanks for the link. Good to return back to unsaved / unbookmarked docs.

I would buy one. But not with a credit card.
If your concern is with your identity being in any way connected with 4chan you can use a preapaid card. I am sending them an email to accept BTC and I encourage you all to do so too.

Except there is one problem with that 'kill switch' concept, there is no way to do it even if they have the legal "authority". A government document has no more power to "kill" the Internet in the US than gun laws have the power to disarm criminals. Iran tried it because they only have a half dozen international connections to unplug, all of which were owned by semi-government entities anyway; and even then data was getting out of Iran. The US has 10K independent ISP's with varying degrees of their own tier 2 or international connections; and international connections aren't even necessary since Facebook & Youtube (the sites Iranians were trying to access anyway) are in the US. Sure, they can drop the tier 3 connections linking NYC/Portland,OR/San Franisco/Atlanta,GA and force my ping rates to the moon and my frame rates to unplayable levels, but that's not going to break much else. Maybe some torrents would drop to zero. Even sending men with guns to Google & facebook to shut them down is only going to force alternatives to the top in short order.
A lot of internet infrastructure is based in US (ICANN, IANA, PIR, root nameservers, IXPs, gTLDs) so unfortunately they can cause some harm but overall US is too big to have Internet easily shut down, not like in Armenia xD http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-12985082

There should be negative choices as some of us make a living with bitcoin. Overall I have made some money but the poll is only about losses. I know a lot of money was lost in hacks (bitcoinica, lineode, bitcoin7, mybitcoin, etc https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=83794.0 ) and of course with Pirate.

How much money (in BTC and fiat) have you lost in Bitcoin-related trades or investments or USD investments related with offers on this forum? Due to BTC volatility I am using USD in the poll.
I myself have lost about $198 (to Andrew Nollan shakaru).

I say Mutually Assured Destruction and a diverse set of small competing forces is the answer. Reduce the size of conflict to nearly a local level and you will have something that resembles peace: Only small conflicts with little damage.
Anybody want to debate this? Is anybody a proponent of total submission to one empowered world government?
Mutually Assured Destruction sounds like VHEMT or Church of Euthanasia to me.

Thank you, OP, for making me laugh

It really says something about the bitcoin community when China has the most transparent hardware companies
So true

I think the solution is to delete personal info if there is any but leave the rest and take the scammer tag off (if he paid everyone back, of course).

Do you know how would those peasants in Cambodia react to your ideas? I am quite sure they would not be happy that some spoiled Westerner (correct me if I'm wrong) is keen on imposing limits on freedom of others, freedom which would result in them having a job to support their families.
You raise an interesting point. Given Cambodia's history with slavery farming (farmers can similarly become indentured to the landowner after a bad year under sharecropping), I would be interested to know their opinion about Goat's proposed venture. If they agree to work it will mean that the pros outweigh the cons.

PS: I need more info on EFF. I won't renege on my offer, but I am curious as to who is EFF.
I'm pretty sure he meant: https://www.eff.org/(good choice IMHO)

Worth quoting here: Josh told me that the owner of Butterflylabs has a buissness history of keeping stuff secret and silent. And he certain doesnt have any experience with posting on a forum or maintaining websites. Thats why (untill now) stuff has seem so shady and all I guess.
This doesn't make sense. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=110868.0 The internet was an exciting development. I started webspawner.com in 1995. It was my focus for many years. Do a search for 'free webpages' on google. I'm currently president of that company, not BFL.
In the late 90's, I found myself face to face with a great new concept. It was called jurisdictional arbitration. That's where you're able to leverage technology to profit from differences in law from one jurisdiction to another. The hotbed of it was in offshore gaming where a Costa Rican license could be used along with satellite telecommunications to offer gaming services to clients all over the world, even in the United States. I thought this was pretty cool, so I started a software company to provide the back end for these systems. We operated services as Sportsbook Solutions and the SportsPulse platform. It was a lucrative and fun time. I saw it as a libertarian adventure in challenging the authorities of the world while earning a good living.

but, as far as i know, it there such a low salary in EU now? 700USD a month? Yes, and there are countries in EU with even lower salaries. For example in Bulgaria the avg monthly wage is around 300 Euro and the minimum (by law) is 100 Euro. This is what people get after taxes. It is similar in Romania which is also in the EU. On the other hand in western Europe the minimum wage is around 1200€ but then again those countries will have a much higher gross government debt to GDP.

How many weeks after purchase could you make a claim with the credit card company or paypal at all? 6 weeks? We are talking about months here. So, useless in 2013.
In theory, it is possible to chargeback CC up to 180 days.

Gene - what is such a leftist as you doing on this forum?!
I guess being disgusted by people wanting to establish an indentured-servant plantation in Cambodia makes that person a "leftist." I'm going to guess you're an American. Can you guess which was the party of Lincoln, the emancipator of slaves? What is the basis of your guess? This is an international forum and no, I am not an American. I am from a country with a rich history of serfdom (with its last forms declining in 1930s) but I believe everyone should be given freedom to decide for themselves. I am against state interventionism in favour of those whom you may deem as being 'oppressed' in the same manner as I am against intervenionism in favour of those who are able to provide an opportunity of work to abject individuals as a mutually benefitting alternative to poverty. Do you know how would those peasants in Cambodia react to your ideas? I am quite sure they would not be happy that some spoiled Westerner (correct me if I'm wrong) is keen on imposing limits on freedom of others, freedom which would result in them having a job to support their families.

Even after everything... all the scams and ponzis. The bucket-shops and "online wallets." The thefts and "hacks." The "credit-ratings" and "savings and trusts." The hits keep on coming. And coming. The latest? You dare ask? New Asset idea, Cambodian rice sharecropping (4% to 6% a year) Feedback wanted! Now, I don't know about you, but I think there comes a time when we need to stand up and say ENOUGH! I think that time is somewhere before "Cambodian rice sharecropping," no matter who brings it to the table, even if it is "goat on a boat." Can this community show some spine, not to mention decency, and say no to this? You would prefer that more people were unemployed and dependent on their families or worse - the state? No one is being forced to work there, I fail to understand what leftists see wrong in that.
