3841  Economy / Economics / Re: Minimum volume to significantly change an altcoin's price? on: July 21, 2020, 05:21:59 PM
2 * .8x *  10% price change where x is each 10% interval.

Doesn't 2*0.8x*10% just simplify to 0.16x% ?
I'm kind of surprised it's that straightforward, but I suppose you are taking an overall trend.
Are you saying the price change is linear with respect to x, so it charts as a straight line? Or am I being stupid (quite likely) and missing something?

I thought it was just an example, there could also be a separate set for X such that f(X) = current_volume * k?

I think volume change might have little affect on the actual price compared to depth of orders... You could instead look for an exponential run up in volume maybe?
3842  Economy / Services / Re: Help accelerate this stuck BTC transaction on: July 20, 2020, 11:12:59 PM
Try viabtc again but you have to try to be the first to get in on the hour - so set an alarm for what is currently 48 minutes away and leave the site loaded up with your txid on it and in the clipboard in case you have to refresh.

Not sure if the fee will be fine with them or too low though.
3843  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help with a Transaction on: July 20, 2020, 07:25:30 PM
If you've got your receipt and you need it fast, you could probably phone them up and ask them to increase your fee.

But 6 sats per byte should confirm within a week at most.

Edit: looks like it's 15 mb from the tip so I think I has a good chance of being confirmed within 48 hours.
3844  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Change address. Why some exchanges provide change address, some don't. Reasons? on: July 20, 2020, 05:20:36 PM
I think there was a benefit in non hardened keys that meant using change addresses weren't findable from the master public key of non change.
assuming change was m/0/0/1 and main was m/0/0/0

I don't know if it helps with anything other than that but centralised exchanges want to make transactions as easy to follow without arising public suspicion.
3845  Economy / Economics / Re: Minimum volume to significantly change an altcoin's price? on: July 20, 2020, 05:15:15 PM
I'd look at the order book and check the cost it'd take to move it up in price by a few %...

If you can kick-start a move you can at least arbitrage with it.

3846  Economy / Economics / Re: How do you estimate resilience of economy in your country? on: July 20, 2020, 03:58:19 PM
Switzerland and New Zealand seem to have handles stuff pretty well and potentially Germany and Japan but I haven't looked much at other economies.

From prior crises, your country's pretty stable if its gdp doesn't fall by more than 50% - a pretty high figure but I don't think it's as devastating as it sounds.

3847  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will we call this "the forgotten halving" - sideways stable price for 4 years? on: July 20, 2020, 03:34:05 AM
I think your timings a bit out.

I remember from 2015 we were pretty stable at 220 and then saw a drop, then around the time of the halving we hit between 440-540.. (in 2013 we peaked at 1300) so we were over half of the ath much like we are now...

There's POTENTIAL for a bull run to come next year and theres still some potential for a decay this year. History doesn't repeat itself too many times though and I have been considering that this may be the time we see a standstill in the price (pr only hit a low end target of 30k) with 2025 being the year of another bull run.

3848  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin core compiling/syncing but only uses fraction of my cpus on: July 19, 2020, 07:54:32 PM
Thank you for your response - I did run btc core on a windows machine last year and the IBD/Sync process was tons faster on a worse (Core I5 6th gen) processor.  That PC did have an SSD however where the current VM is assigned a non SSD HD.

How close are you on your current synchronisation? The chain grows over the years so if you're towards the end then it will take longer.

Generally, from my experience, at the start of the syn the intensity on everything is faily similar (but more intense on the network and processor) and then towards the end it's more network andhard drive.

There could be other problems with the machine, have you tried running a test on the hard drive to see how fast it can read and write data (a preinstalled analytics untiity by the OS might be able to determine this) - It also depends on the type of SSD you had I don't know if it's fully proven yet but I was told that SSDs without memory/ram in the controller drive were a similar speed to hard drives.
3849  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: "Error opening file for writing:" on: July 19, 2020, 07:06:18 PM
How much space do you have left on the drive. Can you access that folder yourself? Have you tried clicking retry also?

For people to help you it'd:
1. Be a good idea to list your OS version and type.) ie Windows 10 premium/enterprise with last update kb56782 (random letters).
2. Check the contents of that folder to see if anythings already been made. Potentially if the bitcoin-cli and bitcoind binaries have been built.
3850  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin core compiling/syncing but only uses fraction of my cpus on: July 19, 2020, 06:11:20 PM
The large resources used by core are normally disk io/rw tasks so it's normal for it to use a small amount of your cpu power.
3851  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: losing $90 in Medicalchain Coin on: July 19, 2020, 06:08:38 PM
You got a link to it on an exchange?

You've got two options with lesser known coins:
1. Take it as a lesson not to "invest" in something without sure plans and actually if someone wants to buy it for a dollar AND it has nothing innovative about it that might still be a good price.
2. See if it gets pumped at some point but it could fall much further first..
3852  Other / Off-topic / Re: Is cryptocurrency coverage in the press picking up since the halving on: July 19, 2020, 05:17:25 AM
It definitely looks to me like another round of crypto hype is getting started. Seems quite similar to what we had post 2016 IIRC.

Yeah I have to say I've made this thread as a bit of something to reflect on hn a year or so time if we have a big move.. Bitcoin got a few mentions in the mainstream both in 2016/2017 and 2012/2013 although I wasn't involved in cryptocurrency in 2013.

I think itll definitely be an interesting thing to follow this time around especially since there's quite a bit less controversy in the space and the currency has grounding for not being completely unregulated (in some parts of the world at least).

@fundamentals, yeah thsts true but I think some reports like the halving could have found their ways onto people's "for you" pages on browsers. And enough people have said "yeah but every four years the amount of bitcoin you have halves" so the phrase is known if not for a correct reason..
3853  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: chenli1995 is a scammer on: July 19, 2020, 05:10:03 AM
You sure? I got messaged by a potential scammer and it still has the chat history and a ghost where his profile pic was?

Edit: yeah just checked and you can delete messages for both pretty quickly.
3854  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: I am concerned about the dangers of KYC, but how do you do business... on: July 19, 2020, 05:07:29 AM
You can trade on the forum or use other services (such as cash in hand or at bank otc - where you can just key in numbers into a cash atm).
3855  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: chenli1995 is a scammer on: July 19, 2020, 05:04:18 AM
I don't think there's much we can help you with here. You should've used escrow though through someone trusted on the forum (fter verifying their identity).

If you post proof of telegram messages and the transactions involved (unless he deleted them with the account)...
3856  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Removing a transaction from Electrum on: July 19, 2020, 04:58:33 AM
No there's nothing, I normally use another device with the last history on to sign a new transaction - or at least there was nothing before v4 i haven't checked fully with v4s capabilities.

The only thing I found is if it takes longer than 24 for a transaction to be confirmed it normally gets an X next to it and those inputs become spendable again.
3857  Other / Off-topic / Is cryptocurrency coverage in the press picking up since the halving on: July 19, 2020, 02:58:35 AM
I was thinking earlier that since the halving and especially this month so far we've seen tiktok attempting to pump dogecoin doing the rounds on a lot of social media and the recent twitter hack. Coupled with some news sites and social media covering the halving is it possible we could see this interest continue?

I'm not saying we'll see an article every few weeks or something but I can imagine some more stories making it to the mainstream media within the year and some journalists may have turned to looking into things related to cryptocurrency more now...
3858  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [why is this scam working] new bitcoin investment system making millions. on: July 19, 2020, 02:54:39 AM
Yeah tbh I think you guys got the right thing that they want to pretend they're doing something to protect people from scams when they're really not wanting to devote the money into protecting their users.

I was considering earlier that Europe and other countries wouldn't be able to interfere with something like this without getting accused of bullying by the US government (even if they did concede afterwards) so it's probably something they've just ignored.
3859  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Rescan fails with old wallet on: July 18, 2020, 05:35:10 PM
But if it launches on the virtual os fine then you should be able to. Just copy acrosd the data from there and your mac version will work if noth are fully synced without having to reindex (backup both chains first though if you can).
3860  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to calculate the price of my new coin? on: July 18, 2020, 05:29:07 PM
1- How to set the price of my coin?

Work out the value of what you're offering overall and then set the price to the mktcap of that. But what is it your coin is trying to do? Why would I want it?

2- How to set the total amount of coins to used?

The total number of coins available will be defined by the smart contract that produces the erc token.

3- Can I add my coin in the trading platforms?

Yeah most companies will charge a fee between around $2000+ to add your coin to their exchange afaik.
