3861  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Monero Faces Extended Pullback on: August 19, 2019, 07:27:02 PM
I'm unsure how privacy coins will fare in the future. Certainly they will always have a place, but it seems likely that on the road to mass adoption, as crypto comes up against government opposition, then privacy coins might be one of the first things that get legislated against. I'm not sure if this limits their potential for growth, or whether there will be sufficient backlash that the privacy coins can soar.
3862  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: if btc drops... on: August 19, 2019, 06:02:36 PM
if btc drops to 7-8k range what happens to alts?

Alts drop as well, and likely harder than BTC does. That's the general behaviour we've seen during the long bear market, and will likely happen again if BTC drops.
BTC has proven a lot more resilient than alts over the last couple of years.
3863  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ethereum and stellar on: August 19, 2019, 05:47:13 PM
seeing the current market conditions are very unstable and I see no growth in price values for ethereum and stellar which is very good, but every day the two coins actually fall in price. whether the two coins are good for us to invest

Both are good long-term bets I think. Short-term prices however are at the whim of the market, and I don't have any real certainty which way it will go, although recent signs have been encouraging. I think given how volatile things can be from day to day, it is often better to take a longer-term perspective.
3864  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What do you think of ETH Price will be by end of 2020? on: August 19, 2019, 05:26:27 PM
I beleive strongly in the long-term future of ETH. Price speculation is just that - speculation - but I would expect crypto prices in general by the end of 2020 to be considerably higher than now. I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest ETH might hit a new ATH by then, maybe $2k.
3865  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Libra the future anyone wants? on: August 19, 2019, 05:11:18 PM
It's certainly not the future I want. Facebook makes it's money from user data - our data. It models our behaviour and sells it on for profit. Libra is I believe primarily another data source, so they can track our purchases and feed this into their models, and make more money from us. It's getting quite advanced now with AI and machine learning not only able to predict our future behaviour quite well, but also - and more scarily - being able to manipulate our behaviour towards desired outcomes.

FB can F-off.
3866  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Is investing in crypto a good idea? on: August 19, 2019, 04:53:04 PM
Yes it is a good idea, provided that a) you pick a good coin, and b) you put money in at the right time.
For 'a' I would say BTC or ETH to start with, and for 'b', well, this can be tricky. Just make sure you're not putting money in at what looks like a price peak.
3867  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoin features on: August 19, 2019, 04:33:50 PM
Altcoin needs to posses some amazing features to make them relevant in the Crypto world, alot of altcoins have failed coz they lack some amazing potentials. As an investor, what are the features you look for before investing in an altcoin?

Use case primarily. If there is no point to the coin's existence, then there is no need to research further. But if it looks like it could genuinely be useful, then it's time to look into team, roadmap, etc etc. But use case for me is absolutely fundamental. If it doesn't offer something that is needed, and is not already provided by another coin, then there is no point really.
3868  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum 32 eth - does it matter? on: August 15, 2019, 08:36:42 AM
A lot of people are asking the same question. Personally I think the reason that alts are suffering is that after the long bear market, confidence in crypto is only just starting to return. And people coming in (or coming back in) will logically start with the safest place, which is BTC. Hence far more buying of BTC than alts, and BTC price rises whilst alts stagnate.

I think for alts to grow we first need greater confidence in the overall crypto markets... something that today's price drops aren't going to help. Alts for me will only start to rise against BTC once we have widespread very positive sentiment. I do think it will happen, but it might be some time away.
3869  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Do you think ETH will bounce back to $600 or back below $100 ? on: August 15, 2019, 08:25:19 AM
ETH is still a great choice, but I am unsure whether or not now is a good time to get in. Prices have dropped significantly today after a bit of a downtrend for a while. We are probably at quite an important point right now. The market seems undecided whether we should be bullish or bearish... and the response to today's significant market drops might go a long way to determining that.
3870  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: dont stop been a bounty hunter because of present condition on: August 13, 2019, 09:21:16 AM
Ignoring those that are scams - there can still be good bounties where the coin price is low. Remember these are new projects, and we can't expect the coin price to rocket up instantly at launch. We don't have the same level of hype that we had a couple of years ago, but I think things are more realistic now.
3871  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cosmos it is a Ethereum-killer? on: August 13, 2019, 09:01:34 AM
Q: Can [insert new smart contract platform] replace ETH?
A: Anything is possible, but this new project hasn't yet proven itself or been battle-tested in the way that ETH has. This is a promising new project, but is still largely based on speculation and hype.

I think this applies to quite a few coins, not just Cosmos.
3872  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What does the future holds for crypto? on: August 13, 2019, 06:28:55 AM
What does the future holds for cryptocurrencies?
1) Will more countries start adopting crypto?
2) Will bitcoin hits a new all time high just like many predicted?the owner of snapchat predicted that by 2030 bitcoin will hit 500k,too good to be true?
3)What about the Government agencies?will they have no choice left but to fully embrace the technology?
4)What will be the fate of banking and financial industries?

Crypto offers commercial advantages over existing technology. Speed, security, efficiency, possibilities of automation, and so on.
With this in mind, it seems inevitable that countries and companies will either adopt crypto, or be left behind by those of their competitors who do. So...

1) Yes or be left behind.
2) Yes a new ATH. 2030 seems very difficult to predict, likewise $500k. The future should be good for crypto and BTC, but those numbers who knows?
3) Yes or be left behind.
4) They will adopt crypto and will survive. They are too big and too integrated into society, as we saw with the bailouts after the financial crisis of 2008. Banks are not permitted to fail.
3873  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Are airdrops safe? on: August 13, 2019, 06:06:35 AM
An airdrop is a way for the project to gain extra publicity and get some people interested in their coin. The offering is free. There should be absolutely zero obligation on the recipient's part to do anything at all.
3874  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Arrgh! Libra here and There on: August 12, 2019, 12:29:36 PM
Libra could be good for crypto as it will make it appear more legitimate once a big company like FB gets involved. However it could be bad for personal freedom and from a privacy perspective. I don't think the aim of the coin is to compete with BTC. I think their primary aim is to use it as another weapon in their customer data mining arsenal. They will use this coin to suck up your purchasing activity and build it into their behavioural profiling models.

Remember with FB you are always the product.

3875  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Facebook’s Libra on: August 12, 2019, 12:11:57 PM
I think one of the main purposes for this coin is data gathering on users purchasing activity. Facebook makes its money through selling user data, and using it for behavioural profiling so they can predict (and influence) future behaviour. It's a very lucrative market, and is the basis of FBs profits.
3876  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum and Bitcoin Cash getting closer. What next? on: August 12, 2019, 11:51:08 AM
I don't think the dollar price taken by itself is of much use when comparing one coin to another. Particularly when they have very different total and circulating supply, as this translates into very different market cap.

Similar coin prices don't mean anything by themselves.
3877  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Should I invest to Bitcoin or Ethereum? on: August 09, 2019, 09:35:29 AM
The answer to which to invest in is: both.

I won't go over reasons to hold BTC... but ETH looks very under-priced in BTC terms right now, and it is a really solid project. Smart contracts will be huge in the future, and ETH is leading the way. It looks a bargain at the moment, so I would pick up some ETH if you don't have any already. But make sure to hold onto some BTC as well. It is generally a bad idea to go all-in on a single coin.
3878  Other / Serious discussion / Re: The big bang theory is a joke/Earth weight distribution on: August 07, 2019, 02:19:32 PM
It is 10 to the power of 22 light years brother, That is the longest measurable distance of light, when you invert the shortest.

Sorry, but that doesn't make the slightest bit of sense. Planck length is measured in metres. If you 'invert' the Planck length, the answer is not in metres it is 'per metre'.

The Planck length is  1.6* 10^-35 metres.
The inverse of the Planck length is 6.2* 10^34 per metre.

All that this is telling you is that there are 6.2* 10^34 Planck lengths per metre. It has no relevance beyond that. And given that 'metre' is an arbitrary human measurement with no wider significance, then really the inverse of the Planck length has no meaning at all.

If we talk about the Planck length, we mean how many metres in a Planck length.
If we talk about the inverse of the Planck length, we mean how many Planck lengths in a metre.

There is absolutely no wider significance. It is just another way of saying the same thing. All that we are doing is putting one distance measurement in terms of the other.
3879  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do we have to have a single deal to leave the EU? on: August 07, 2019, 11:37:29 AM
The Irish backstop problem is a creation of the EU

I'm not sure about that. I would say that the UK has caused the problem itself by not thinking about what leaving the EU would actually mean in practice.

The Republic of Ireland is obviously EU and remains in the EU. Both UK and Ireland are opposed to a hard border between N Ire and the south, and any border in the Irish Sea would also be unacceptable to the UK.

The whole situation is ridiculous. We demand to leave! We want a border between the EU and the UK! ... but at the same time the UK is unwilling to accept any possible location for the border. It's demented. It was totally obvious before the vote that any potential border was going to be a problem, but no-one in power seemed to care about it. UK government policy is basically just whatever xenophobic knee-jerk populism they think will get them through the next election or failing that, the next few weeks.

The only workable solution I can see is to get rid of the f***ing Tories.
3880  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What does the future holds for crypto? on: August 07, 2019, 09:43:16 AM
The eventual future state I imagine will be that crypto becomes integrated into society and pervades every sector of industry.
There will doubtless be many bumps on the road, and government objections and attempts to control it all through legislation, but I think crypto will eventually be everywhere, and that this is inevitable because crypto just has so many improvements over existing solutions. All it will take is one company/country to embrace it, and then everyone else faces the choice to either embrace it as well or get left behind and suffer commercial disadvantage.

Anything that is cheaper and more efficient than existing solutions will eventually become the standard. Particularly so when it also offers the potential for huge automation through smart contracts etc. This is why crypto will win.
