3861  Economy / Economics / Re: "BTC not a currency per se but can be an alternative asset" China on: April 22, 2021, 08:52:38 AM
It worries me when China has a hard stance, but it worries me even more when they speak softly. Is there still a ban on electronic trading of crypto for citizens?

My interpretation is that they have realised that the country has a lot to gain from backing bitcoin in some form. Countries that intend to grow at a fast pace or are trying to reanimate their economies catching the fintech and alternative assets train should be taking this approach.
3862  Economy / Economics / Re: Markets taking profit on: April 22, 2021, 08:46:44 AM
A few people may be wondering about the step drop of bitcoin price these last days. It is quite usual for it to move up and down, although lately it seems that movements are faster than usual.

Just take a wider look to understand:

NASDAQ 100, last month + 8%, last year +60%
S&P 500, last month +6.4%, last year +47%
Bitcoin, last month -4%, last year +639%

Since the start of the COVID (in practice) to now, most indexed have exceeded their average returns, not to mention bitcoin. A movement such as this is a consequence and it may still be followed by more falls without meaning anything other than a profit taking and some caution around the ATHs.
If what you're saying is that Bitcoin is still very profitable and the price is very high even after the recent correction, I fully agree with you. If considered an asset, Bitcoin is clearly the best performing one. If you're implying that Bitcoin's price decreased because people invested more into NASDAQ or S&P (hence they are experiencing positive growth, I think it's just a coincidence. I also think that it's not right to start the timing from the start of COVID because at the beginning of the pandemic BTC price dropped very low. It started growing significantly at the end of 2020 and continues to do so, but I don't think the pandemic has much to do with it.

More or less. What I am saying is that even if it is a steep drop, and may not be the last, the value of bitcoin is still quite strong and the fall may be linked to a profit taking. Many large investors are less bullish about next year than about last.

My personal take is that I am not selling even if the correction is stepper than this, since my plan is hodl for years the better part of my crypto. I do not use leverage nor run unnecessary risks, so I can keep on with my original strategy even if big drops happen.
3863  Economy / Economics / Re: EFFECTIVE INVESTING STRATEGIES on: April 21, 2021, 10:19:02 PM
HODL and arbitrage are two of the best historical crypto investing strategies...

As far as bitcoin HODLING has been proven right in the past, that does not mean that it will be in the future... who knows. Arbitrage is typically a winning strategy and usually has from low to zero risk, as you´d be buying and selling simultaneously in trading arbitrage and buying and selling with minimal risks in other types of arbitrage (e.g. merger arbitrage).

The catch is that you will need to have quite good technological tools and keep ahead of the competition to arbitrate adequately and that´s expensive.

3865  Economy / Economics / Facebook coin will now be DIEM on: April 20, 2021, 01:55:00 PM
This is not just a re-branding, the new global crypto backed by Facebook will not look at all like LIBRA was intended, but more like a digital dollar stablecoin. Facebook is known for trying many things and succeeding only in a few, so it will be something to follow closely. Regulations are probably a major obstacle.

KEY POINTS
The Diem Association is aiming to launch a pilot with a single stablecoin pegged to the U.S. dollar in 2021, according to a person familiar with the matter.
Formerly known as Libra, the Facebook-backed digital currency project faced strong opposition from regulators and lost several key backers and executives.
At the same time, Diem has gone through a complete makeover and is now in talks with Swiss financial regulators to secure a payment license.

3867  Economy / Economics / Re: Turkish Central Bank Forbids use of cryptocurrencies as a mean of Exchange. on: April 20, 2021, 12:57:21 PM
It is kind of an universal truth. Autocratic governments trying for "alternative economic theories" that spectacularly fail left with no other chance but to imprison their citizens finances to avoid a massive loss of capital. Not that they achieve anything really, particularly as the Turkish government has fired a few finance ministers that were trying to put in place the painful but now unavoidable painful measures.

3868  Economy / Economics / World risk - global on: April 20, 2021, 11:58:42 AM
For those unfamiliarised, this is a risk quadrant depicting the world level risks. How important the risk is is based on how likely is to materialise (likelyhood or frequency) and how bad is it (impact or severity).

For example something that is likely to happen and is disastrous will be on the top right corner. Risks that are unusual but terrible would be top left. In the inforgraphics you can see how climate change is quite likely and has severe consequences whereas weapons of mass destruction are less likely and even just equally as bad.

Now, where would you place the risk of a bitcoin hack o network problem in your finances and in the world finances?

"In 2020, the world gained 493 new billionaires—that’s one every 17 hours.

Love visual capitalist btw. A question I would like to have an answer is how may of these billionaires do actually live in these cities most of the year. To be honest, even the best areas of the ones I know are simply too urban to put up with. London is busy, difficult to travel and not particularly safe in general, Moscow is a joke for mobility, safety or legal maters, NYC no that good either...

If you think for a moment, would you live in a city if you could just choose any place in the world?

3871  Economy / Economics / Re: What is the purpose of (fiat pegged) Stablecoins? on: April 20, 2021, 06:41:59 AM
These are mostly about avoiding having to use fiat. They are not an investment as they are as they say stable so you should not expect their price to rise or fall sharply.
There are many reasons why you would rather not exchange your crypto for fiat, and probably the most important one is that you may be realising a profit and you´d be subject to the corresponding taxes. If you just want to trade and avoid that effect, you can use stable coins.
3872  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do I need to pay Tax on my Crypto Gambling Winnings? A guide on: April 19, 2021, 08:46:26 AM
In Spain there seems to be quite a bit of an exception for gaming income, particularly from "La Loteria". It is frequently used as a method to avoid taxes:  Someone will buy a winning ticket of, let´s say, 1 million and will pay for it 1.3 million. Obviously that means that the money originally was undeclared and now is fully legal and not subject to taxes. There are cases in which some people have claimed to have won the lottery 6 times in a year  Grin
3873  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: An obvious rigging of Sports. on: April 19, 2021, 08:41:40 AM
My concern is how often are riggers caught really. Unless they make obvious mistakes, it is very difficult to tell if a player, for example, missed a shot intentionally. It is just not impossible that a player underperforms in a game just because he has a bad day and even if you are suspicious it is very difficult to prove. Soccer is even more difficult in that aspect. Are these blunders? They could be on-purpose.

Blundersssss
3874  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2020/21 on: April 19, 2021, 08:36:03 AM
I wondered if Real players could endure such an effort and it's obvious that they can't and it will be very difficult for them to follow Barcelona and Atletico until the end of the season.
Zidane had only 13 available senior players for this match yesterday.
Zidane and his players do all they can to get total points in La Liga and a spot in semi final of Champions League. I think they can sacrifice the La Liga and spend all human resources, concentration and mentality for Champions League.

They are not in a too bad position in La Liga but focus on both can end with failures in both competitions. The Champions Leauge is hard to say but if they have to choose one, it should be Champions League not the La Liga.

3 more matches and I think Real Madrid can beat Chelsea. In the final match, they can beat PSG or Manchester City. Tough task of course but more possible than La Liga.

Agree, if I were Zidane and could choose, I would try to focus on the international competitions. Atletico de Madrid seems to be quite difficult to deal with this year and it is a team known for fighting hard for every point. International competitions are never easy but on a year like this, they help much more the finances of next year, possibly without the COVID restrictions or with a lesser version of them.
3875  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Devices used for Gambling on: April 19, 2021, 08:30:50 AM
...
Through this thread lets share the device thats been used by you for the purpose of gambling. My 90% of gambling activities were on Mobile devices. This has given me lots and lots of memories. Whenever I pass some region I remember the loss and the place associated with it.
...

Most people I know use their cells, and that has been pretty much the best alternative during COVID. Now that there seems to be an ease on the restrictions, some of us would like to have some short of in-person gambling. 99% of my betting was social with work colleagues raffles or friends. Now I also added a bit of on-line to the repertoire. I just find it more fun when you compete with people you know even if on-line.
3876  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What Feature Do You Look for In Slot Games? on: April 19, 2021, 08:26:16 AM
I think the Jackpots are the main feature to start playing the game. I is a lot about winning the big price and all that, but after a while it is more about finding some short of logic and interaction in the game, that is, luck is always there and may be on your side during that day, but having to learn how to use advances and extra perks makes the game more fun to play.
3877  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Copper - a 5-year investment for those with no capital. on: April 17, 2021, 10:44:13 PM
It isn't trading, as you are getting the actual product for nothing, and you aren't selling. This thread was for people with no investment capital, and not for those with the money to trade.

Nope, you actually buy the product with your time, effort and using you means of transport that have a cost. So yes, it is commodities trading, even if is not intraday trading.

This is important because the market for copper sets out a basis price that is likely to be lower than the costs mentioned combined, thus this alternative income idea is most likely not going to work.
3878  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Who are big enemies? Shia Or Sunnis? Jews Or Christians? Buddhist Or Hindus? on: April 17, 2021, 10:40:29 PM
Religion is rarely the true origin of war. Even without religion, those who want conflict would find arguments to make people hate each other. If you think of it, the problem is not religion, is the people who cannot live with others that think differently.

3880  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Will vaccine passports lead to the demise of vaccines? on: April 16, 2021, 11:33:17 PM
Oh dear!

The current testing is crap, and doesn't test for immunity. People like me with strong immunity are virus killers, unlike the vaccinated with lower protection and reduced immunity. I don't fear the virus, and variants of Corona Viruses have been around all my life (78 years), and I have never had more than a sniffle. I won't be messing up my health by allowing vaccination, and those who fear the virus, should address their underlying health issues that make them vulnerable. You invest in your health, and like any investment, you should do your own research, and not listen to propagandists that have vested interests.

As usual... any serious evidence of any of your assertions? Other than that, I insist that you start kissing COVID patients to test your theories.

Crap. now that I know that you are 78 proving you wrong is no longer fun.
