3861  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA World Cup 2026 :Canada/Mexico/United States: Discussion Thread on: April 20, 2023, 03:33:17 AM
I thought I would briefly talk about the state of FIFA finances. Qatar 2022 was not well received by the fans, but it was immensely profitable for FIFA. At the end of 2022, they reported that they had $3.97 billion in reserves, and the revenues for the 2022-25 cycle was estimated at $7.6 billion (the vast majority of it coming from Qatar 2022). For the next cycle (2026-29), the FIFA revenues are projected to rise to $11 billion (with most of it coming from the FIFA world cup of 2026). This includes broadcast revenue of $4.26 billion and marketing revenue of $2.7 billion. During Qatar 2022, ticket sales alone accounted for $929 million.

You don't need to worry about the odds from Biden or Kamala because chances are just a percentage of winning and not necessarily the truth.
Regarding the Covid wave, it might be very influential, especially in terms of the economy, but it seems that the Covid wave will not really be like a few years ago and if it has an effect, it might only affect economic and financial inflation.
Biden is indeed quite old with his current age which is 80 years old but he is still quite healthy so the risk is there but not too big to get to 18 months eighth.

You can't ignore COVID though. People are still dying and every now and then we are hearing about new variants and spikes. The last major variant (Omicron) had a low mortality rate compared to the Delta variant. But there is no guarantee that a new, more lethal variant will not appear all of a sudden. Anyway for POTUS 2024, a bigger risk is the poor health of Biden. He seems to be suffering from dementia, and it gets worse with age. Health condition of the candidates will definitely be one of the hot topics for the 2024 elections.
3863  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany ⚽ - Qualifiers on: April 20, 2023, 03:13:14 AM
I can't believe it how come Italy is the winner last EURO edition is not favorite for winning EURO 2024? seems crazy with this odds predicting because Italy success defeated England in final last EURO 2020 is not favorite team? however not qualify in World Cup 2022 its not comparison why Italy have bigger odds or not favorite in EURO 2024. I think beside Germany as host keep believing with magician from  Italy success back to back winning EURO.

I would agree with this argument. Italy may not be as strong as France (or even England, despite the fact that they destroyed England during the finals of Euro 2020). But there is no way Italy can be placed so much below teams like Germany. I guess a lot of people tend to ignore Italy, since they were not there in Qatar 2022. Italy has remained out of spotlight for some time. I would say that Italy is one of the favorites to win Euro Cup this time and they have a good team balance and team bonding unlike some of the other top teams in this competition.

Even now the oil source is their major revenue, and the country plan to generate revenue through different sources. This is how it is possible to stand strong, even if the oil revenue gets disturbed as we can't expect things to be same as now. As said Saudi Arabia have spent big on Football and now the prime focus is upon Cricket as it holds a big fanbase from the Asian countries.

More restrictions were relaxed and the government is trying to make Western people get into the country. This is kind of plan to make people invest into their country. Rather than money it is the visibility they get through it. Even now for IPL they're (visit Saudi) is the official sponsor.

The current king (Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud) is quite intelligent and he has realized that it will be impossible for Saudi Arabia to survive on oil revenues alone in the long term. That is why he is trying to diversify the economy. And unlike Qatar, Saudi Arabia is not exactly swimming in wads of money. They do have a large population of natives to take care of. Qatar has only 300,000 citizens, while KSA as per the latest census is home to 25 million natives. That explains why Saudi Arabia is more accommodative of the outside culture when compared to Qatar. But only time will tell whether their big plans will get realized or not.

If you have gone so far then do another favour and give some figures of ICC revenue also, so we all have an idea how mighty BCCI is when compared with another boards.

ICC media rights (for 4 years, 2024-2027): $3.5 billion
IPL media rights (for 5 years, 2023-2027): $6.2 billion
WPL media rights (for 5 years, 2023-2027): $0.12 billion
Media rights for bilateral matches involving India (for 4 years, 2024-2027): Bidding process still on, winner to be declared shortly (for the last 5-year period from 2018-2023, Disney Star won the rights for $925 million. This time the amount will increase by manifold).

In short, BCCI revenues are manytimes of the ICC revenue. IPL rights itself are larger than the combined price of media rights sales from ICC and all the other national boards.
3866  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: April 20, 2023, 02:43:08 AM
It is all about the exposure to test format cricket. Playing more test matches Ireland team will improve. The team might've played around 5 test matches, in that they've performed better in few matches. Slowly they should avoid the innings loss and try to make some good runs. Maybe the players could score better if they play same as they play limited over matches. When they try to play slow they weren't able to stand wickets as well as unable to score good runs.

Well.. I don't know. They have played 5 test matches ever since they got the test status in 2019. That is 1.25 matches per year. And many of the players who participated in the first two tests are no longer playing for Ireland. From what I can see, only 4 of the players who participated in the Ireland vs England test match back in 2019 are included in the squad against Sri Lanka (James McCollum, Andy McBrine, Andy Balbirnie and Mark Adair). One of their main issues is regarding retention of players across all formats of the game.

Congratulations to the Lucknow Super Giants for winning yesterday's match. But their selection policy was baffling. Mark Wood was dropped and was replaced with Afghan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq. And before this match, Wood was the leading wicket taker for LSG, taking 11 wickets in just 4 matches. The decision to drop him was very surprising. Naveen bowled well yesterday though. He had final figures of 4-0-19-0. BTW, Marcus Stoinis and Avesh Khan were the only wicket takers for LSG as Rajasthan Royals failed to chase the target despite having enough wickets in hand.
3868  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: April 20, 2023, 02:23:18 AM
It sounds unbelievable that Rajasthan Royals could not chase a target of 155, especially when they have heavyweights such as Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson and Shimron Hetmyer in the squad. When Hetmyer got out, the target was still achievable. But they chose to send in the useless Riyan Parag and the inexperienced Dhruv Jurel to the crease. I still don't know why Parag is in the team season after season. He has neither contributed with the bat, nor with the ball. Why he is always selected to the playing XI? Rumors are that he is one of the favorites of Sanju Samson, and therefore gets automatic selection.
3869  Economy / Economics / Re: Russian Gas ban - A problem for Europe or suicide for Russia? on: April 19, 2023, 10:57:03 AM
^^^ I don't know from where you get this story of Russia selling it's crude at $35 per barrel. At this point, the Indian refiners are purchasing Urals at very close to the market rate. The FOB price is around $65, and another $20 per barrel gets added to it in the form of freight and insurance. So in total we are paying around $85 per barrel for the Urals crude. The crude from Saudi costs around $92 per barrel, including freight and insurance. So the difference is now very minimal. And although some of the banks are refusing to make the payments, there are plenty of alternate options available.

Pakistan must focus on winning the series. It will be second humiliation in a row (first is losing T20 series to Afghanistan) if they lost this series too. New Zealand are playing with 2nd tier players and still Pakistan lost the 3rd T20I and that has given hopes to New Zealand that they still have a chance. PCB must intervene and replace Rizwan with some new talent. Immense opportunity has been given to Rizwan and he is a total failure.

That is true. New Zealand is playing without at least half a dozen of their regular players, including Tim Southee, Kane Williamson, Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson and Glenn Philips. I don't really understand the logic in holding the series at this time, when the Indian Premier League is ongoing. It doesn't impact Pakistan, because their players are not participating in the league. But a number of New Zealand players are taking part in this tournament and that is the reason why they have sent a second string side to Pakistan. Ideally they would have staged a test series at this time, instead of T20 series.

BCCI receives revenue from the WPL through multiple sources. A few of them are:

Franchise fees (10-year period): ₹4,669 crore (US$580 million)
TV broadcasting (5-year period): ₹951 crore (US$120 million)

Additionally, the BCCI receives payments for sponsorship and some other sectors. Revenues from ticket sales are given to the franchises. These numbers may look anormous. But compare to the numbers from the IPL, and you will notice how insignificant they are.
I would add another major point.

If i am not wrong then for the first 5 years IPL revenue model is based on 80% (Franchises)-20% (BCCI) share so a major chunk will go towards the WIPL franchises except for a fixed amount of Franchise fees (which you mentioned).

As far as I know, here the "revenues" mean TV broadcast fees and sponsorship. It doesn't include the franchise fees (if I am not wrong). Anyway, in the initial 3-4 seasons, none of the franchises are likely to break even. And the franchises who paid higher franchise fee (such as the Ahmedabad and Mumbai franchises) are likely to remain in red for several seasons. Revenues from the first season has exceeded all expectations. Each of the WPL franchises have earned ₹15 to ₹20 crore from sponsorships, and some ₹25 to ₹35 crore from the central revenue pool.

It's wonderful to see how Mumbai won this game thanks to Cameron Green's outstanding effort with both bat and ball. His undefeated 64 run innings was thrilling to witness, and his tight 4 over bowling performance for just 29 runs was outstanding. Even though he gave up a few runs it was nice to see Behrendorff stepping up and getting important wickets. Mumbai's triumph was greatly aided by their overall disciplined bowling performance. Even though their batsmen should have performed better the team's determination to win with such an all around effort is praiseworthy.

It was Jason Behrendorff who picked up two very important wickets in his opening spell (Harry Brook and Rahul Tripathi). We saw how destructive Harry Brook can be in the previous matches. Once these two got out, the probability of a win by Sunrisers Hyderabad got reduced to the very minimum. Then there was a partnership between Mayank Agarwal and Aiden Markram which took them to 71/2, and this partnership was broken when Cameron Green nabbed Markram. But then, Mayank Agarwal was also responsible for the defeat. He scored 48 from 41 balls.

It was already predicted that Ireland would lose this match. But I expected a bit better batting from Ireland. Because I saw the performance of the second innings of the Ireland team against Bangladesh. Almost every batsman in the team managed to play well enough. I hoped that the team would be able to play well against Sri Lanka. But due to their poor batting, they conceded a humiliating defeat by an innings and 280 runs. Ireland batsmen need to be more patient.

I don't know whether being more patient would have done the trick for them. Hardly anyone in the current Irish squad has the experience of playing against the top spinners in turning tracks. To their credit, they performed decently during the second innings in Bangladesh (all credit to Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker and Andy McBrine). But this time, all of them failed to score runs and to confront the spinners. Another factor is that Ireland doesn't have any test specialists. Most of them are limited overs specialists with hardly any exposure to the longer format of the game.

There are a couple of odds that seem to be off. I think England should at least be equal to Germany, but rather ahead as you say. And Spain can never be that far behind either. I don't know if they overvalue the home advantage that much? The last time that a national team won the European Championship in their own country was in 1984 in France. It can't be the home advantage that the bookies value so high. Even Belgium is underrated in my opinion. These are some weird odds and France should be a clear favorite.

I say this repeatedly here (that France is far ahead of the others), but other folks don't agree with me. And I agree with you on the home advantage factor. With or without the home advantage, Germany is a shit team. I don't have a very good opinion about England (especially after their poor performance in the Qatar 2022), but at least I could agree that they are far ahead of Germany. However, I can't agree with you on Belgium. Their peak years are behind them and with the downfall of Lukaku, they are out of contention for Euro 2024.
3875  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Indian Premier League #IPL on: April 19, 2023, 05:49:47 AM
There is more to the game than just batting. Ishan Kishan is a good wk, we only recognize wicket keepers worth when you see one who is not good at it. He is having 33 avg runs per match so far with SR of 145 (source), that's good for t20 format. Tim David in last match took 4 catches and 1 run out, had those catches were dropped Mumbai might not have won.

Also, not everyone may perform excellent in every match, but in that one game that they do, they become the reason for the win.

Batting, bowling, captainship, fielding, economy rate, wicket keeping — all these combined make a good team. Team who full-fills most of these wins the trophy.

As I mentioned previously, I don't have much complaints about Ishan Kishan. I am OK with what he did so far. And regarding Tim David, I would rather blame the management. He needs to bat further up the order. He has got limited chances so far in the Indian Premier League 2023. All that said, there is no excuse for the pathetic performance from Suryakumar Yadav so far. A lot was expected from him, and T20 is supposed to he his favorite format. And in 5 matches, his top score remains the 43 that he made against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Apart from that his next highest score is 15 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The West has seized Russia's reserve, so Russia is seizing the eastern regions of Ukraine? Have you messed up the order here? Russia took over eastern parts of Ukraine back in 2014, and $300 billion of Russia's reserves in foreign banks were blocked after Russia's full-scale invasion last February.

As far as I know, Russia has also seized a lot of investment from European companies inside Russia. Many large corporations have run in to billions of USD worth of losses each. Anyway, Russia has indirectly benefitted from the war. The price of LNG, thermal coal, wheat and sunflower oil went up steeply as a result of the war and Russian exporters have made large profits as a result of this. Also, the Russian Ruble has got devalued by more than 30% over the last 12 months. This has also helped the exporters to make even larger profits.

Poor SRH team management as usual. Those brainless fools keep giving so many chances to players like Samad, Sharma etc which makes me wonder how much they paid to retain their respective places in the team.

24 from 12 balls looked pretty easy, but the SRH tail-enders usually are bad batsmen which explains the loss. MI got lucky if you ask me.

They retained Samad, which makes me wonder about their IQ level. Anyway, cricket is a side business for the SRH management. The franchise is owned by Kalanithi Maran, a multi-billionaire who is known for numerous corruption scandals during the UPA era (2004-2014). The way they behave in public makes me angry. And even the younger members of the family (esp. Kaviya Maran) are very arrogant.

During yesterday's match, they required 24 runs from 12 balls and made just 9 runs. Abdul Samad and Bhuvneshwar Kumar managed just 4 runs from the 19th over which was bowled by Cameron Green. And then Arjun Tendulkar came to bowl the last over and they made just 5 runs.

Portugal have many young talented player but they not brave give them chance get regular position and prefer keep hold on with Cristiano Ronaldo
~~~
That is definitely not true. You are claiming that Ronaldo is the reason why these players are not getting chances. It is the other way around. During Qatar 2022, the Portuguese coach (Fernando Santos) humiliated Ronaldo by not including him in the starting XI. The younger players performed well during the first match (against Switzerland, which they won by a massive margin of 6-1). But the tactic failed against Morocco during the Quarter-finals, and they lost the match 1-0. The younger players first need to perform consistently, before they talk about replacing Ronaldo.
Srilanka destroyed Ireland in the first test match. Getting defeated by an innings and 200 odd runs shows how amature this team is against a good test playing team.
The won't survive if they play against the big 4. The first match was a good experience for them as they now know how to play against Srilanka on their home ground. I am not expecting much from them in the second test match.
Now I have a feeling that Ireland was given test status before they were ready for it. Back in 2019, both Ireland and Afghanistan were elevated to full member status by the ICC. Since then both the teams have played only 3-4 test matches and in each cases they were handed with heavy defeats. They simply can't compete against teams who have decades of experience with test cricket. Previously the ICC had a competition called Intercontinental Cup, which prepared Associate nations for the longer version of the game. This was discontinued many years ago. And that was a setback for many of these smaller teams.
Tilak Verma should be put up in the order. He has the potential to score big runs. Ishan Kishan one of the highest paid player is struggling and it is evident with his strike rate. SKY did it again another lose shot and got out cheaply.
If it was not Green then MI wouldn't have reached 190. SRH completely dependent on the performance of foreign players. Mayank Agarwal was thinking that he was playing an ODI rather than a T20 league match. Pathetic performance by SRH yet again.
Ishan Kishan was in decent form so far, but Mumbai would still be disappointed given the tons of money they spent on him. Suryakumar Yadav on the other hand failed completely. His highest score so far has been the 43 that he made against the KKR. In none of the other matches he could manage a score of above 20. And it surprises me that the Mumbai Indians are still in 6th place in points table despite the poor performance form many of their star players. Could have been much worse. Anyway, their next match is against Punjab and they need to win that one to stay alive.
