The only fumes I've ever smelled was from a cpu grilled eybrow that somehow fell off my face and sandwiched itself between the Athlon II and cpu cooler. The Prime95 burn in must have caused it to squirm/ wiggle out as it was not visible before firing it up. At first it was very faint, then very noticable after 15-20 minutes. lmao Too bad I didn't take a pic. Wooot ! new pb :p 1280mhz hd 7870, stock volts, 458 - 463.4 mhash/s, Catalyst 12.11 beta4, 41C

+1 hardcore-fs As good as it is, I wouldn't dream of running these clocks with the stock HSF. Why would you spend so much for a custom heatsink? when you could have just gotten the 7970? This whole rig only pulls about 1000 watts clock: 1080/930/1.062v (cgminer will not show proper voltage) cgminer version 2.8.5 - Started: [November 19, 2012, 9:08 am] Rig:minerwb minerwb (5s):3193.71 (avg): 3194.13 Mh/s | H: 118.2 Q:2864 A:69689 R:24 HW:0 E:?% U:44.67/m TQ:? Hio and nice setup ! The HSF was bought almost 2 years ago and currently on its 4th gpu. Soon I will have my 2nd/3rd gpu and they will each get one because, the 30c+ temp drop is worth the $$$. How much downtime is lost due to overheating/burnt out gear ? per day ? per month ? ect.. Little to no chance of that happening here. lol pEACe I'm not debating that higher temps won't affect the life of the card. I keep my card running at < 60C myself. I wouldn't dream of running them at 110C and wondering why they burnt out after 3 months. However, the argument FOR the necessity of lower temps lost credibility when the same people posted stuff like this: The other part has to do with the toxic fumes the card will emit at the higher temps. This never gets talked about because just like smog/pollution, cell phone radiation, GMOs ect., they are all supposed to be "safe".
It just sounds a little too panic-y, and sounds like you frequent conspiracy theory sites. The average person will not accept this as a valid argument. Plzzz don't make assumptions about me. Look at the ever increasing cancer and disease rates and wake up. Do you really believe your environment and food provided by these corporations is safe ? You guys have no real arguement to make so you resort to labelling and lame jokes about tinfoil. Typical...

It won't mine .. but will keep a Radeon free from down time due to gaming.

It means there should be a time limit... its been weeks.

Bitcoin will never reach its full potential if we don't completely abandon the not so great pastimes of interest, gambling and financial fraud.
Ripping off the EU will not fix your country, Mysteryminer. Promoting and upholding a good image of BTC will.

Its not too bad. I use a mini handheld torch with a "heat" attachment to flow the solder on the pcb. Wipe that off.... Then use a little solder paste you can buy online(it has silver, flux, and some other crap and basically comes out of a tube like goo). place the replacement smd caps on the paste... Use the torch to flow the solder paste...
All that said, I've found that replacing caps is pretty iffy. If the caps burnt out there was usually another reason that they did...
If you just knocked the caps off then replacing them has a better chance of working.
Let me know if you need any other advice.
The capacitors and everthing else are fine. Thx for the tips. Ahh.. grade 9 tech class... its all coming back to me ! ;p pEACe

itty bump. Is transplanting a pair of pcie smt resistors as easy as it seems ? I'm tempted to buy a cheap gun so I can replace the missing gtx 460se resistors with the ones off a dud HD 4850.

Is there a time limit ? Lets fill this table up !

Hio all. The card will only run at 8x pcie 2.0 in a 16x slot and 4x in a 8x slot because a pair of resistors broke off. It has run everthing I've thrown at it and works great when I want to game and mine at the same time. Its clean, runs very cool and has some fresh Arctic Ceramique or Silver 5 applied. Looking for best BTC offer plus the cost of shipping. Includes 2 2x4 pin molex to 6 pin adapters. Thanks for looking. pEACe update.. I have a dud HD 4850 that I will throw in for those that may want to try some gpu resistor transplant surgery.

All I see is.. "This user is currently ignored." I take it I'm not missing much. Hey hey hey, let's not start a fight over this. BTC should be about happiness.
I did nothing to bring this on. Im not taking sides on this issue as I have no facts in either direction. But the way I look at it is most hardware is going to drop in value a large amount after 1-2 years and anything after 2 years it is pretty much worthless. I used to be an overclocking nut as well as a Folding@home nut. I have run a fair amount of hardware out of spec and at some pretty high temps with only a few failures. If I can get 2+ years out of it Im happy because after that time no one wants it anyway... Just my opinion. Opinions are always welcome. Its the 'all knowing' mentality that bugs me. Making the gear last is only part of the reason I run my gear as cool as possible. The other part has to do with the toxic fumes the card will emit at the higher temps. This never gets talked about because just like smog/pollution, cell phone radiation, GMOs ect., they are all supposed to be "safe". pEACe Rofl tin foil much? Tin foil ?uhh.. forget that. Unless you have pics of or want to talk about rigs, I don't want to know what you like to do with tin foil. lol..

I am not talking about electromigration, although it wouldn't surprise me if high temps help to speed up the degradation. Where did you learn a big word like that ? I'll bet you're the smart one of the litter. You and your trolling fat comic book guy butt just made my ignore list ! LMAO Enjoy !

I think it was at 40-50 mhash/s for the few minutes I ran it.
This config didn't last long b/c I didn't like seeing the 7870's vrms at 67-72c when mining/gaming. Now that I have a much cooler running mobo, I will try it again and this time work an extra 120mm or two into the equation. xD
~70C for VRM temps are actually pretty good! Why would you complain about that? I'm 'heat o pheobic'. :p I also like having the peace of mind of knowing that the card is mint, when it come time to sell. Over time the temp swings of anything over 60c can/will cause significantly more wear on your gear. The industry temp standard is rigged to increase sales. The faster you burn it out.. Once in a while, i always see a noob spilling out myths..... makes me laugh tho I'll bet you sound like that fat ass comic book guy when you say that. "I'll have you know kind sir, I will be the one dispensing the insults in this establishment !" - The Comic Book Guy The known laws of physics and the legions of people who waste their time/money with buying new parts or RMAs because they believe 60c+ is "ok", are NOT myths.

I had to try a few times but got mine to go with the 460se as the main display in the 2nd 16x pcie slot. Uninstall the drivers/start from scratch and it will work after the fake display is created on the radeon. ALT/TAB'd out of Trackmania so I could take a screenie. :p

No luck with the 6870 .. but some luck with getting the temps down a bit while gaming and mining. xD The new mobo doesn't seem to like this gpu combo. It took some work to get it to boot with the fake display. I need an Antec 1100 ! edit.. Red and Green make Blue. lol pEACe

Hio all Its about time I found something a little tougher than Trackmania, for my hd 7870 to chew on ! I don't care how much space it takes up.. EVERY gpu I add will be vf3000'nd. xD I also replace stock coolers with Artic Twin Turbo II coolers. Damn silent.. 100% fans and 48-52 temps on heavily overclocked 5870's. Thx for that.. I'll definitely have to consider it for this 6870 I have lined up.
