We already had that discussion. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=131778.0

In short. Yes, they exist, yes, they are already in use, no, they will not kill Bitcoin, no, you can't use them for mining.

That guy looks exactly like I pictured dank to look like.
3864  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin will be at CES2013 (Official Thread) on: December 27, 2012, 10:46:47 AM
Looks like a good booth plan for the CES crowd.

Not really. They're not at the LVCC, but at the Sands Convention Centre. That's like half an hour away from the "real" CES.

You know, when I see this thread -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=41025.0
I wonder how he came to the idea to register this particular domain in the first place.

This domain has been registered since July 18, 2010.

Bah, facts.  Embarrassed

It would have been funny.
3866  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Public Notice: Bitcoincentral.com on: December 27, 2012, 09:45:58 AM

I attempted to contact rip the owner of bitcoin-central.net off

Bitcoiners.
3869  Other / Off-topic / Re: Time is slowing down on: December 27, 2012, 12:32:39 AM
He's quoting from this old WWN article: http://weeklyworldnews.com/headlines/15077/earths-rotation-slowing/

You ARE aware that WWN was a satire magazine, right?
3870  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin taking up 5.6gb on my computer on: December 26, 2012, 11:40:43 PM
That chart says the blockchain is still less than 4gb.

Ya, it is the raw data in the blockchain.  The files include the index (blkindex.dat), which is over 1.4 GB at the moment.

Wow, that;s a lot of growth since I switched to Electrum a couple months ago.  Sounds like pruning is becoming more pressing

Basically what happened is that SatoshiDice started. The chain has been growing ridiculously because of that. The number of daily transactions has more than quadrupled after Satoshidice went online.

If I could extract stupidity from forum posts, fill it in bottles and find a buyer, I'd be sitting on a gold mine right here.
3872  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can I buy stuff on Ebay or Amazon with bitcoin? on: December 26, 2012, 04:06:19 PM
that sucks those are such big stores. Someone should convince them to accept bitcoins.

Go right ahead.

Please don't ask for opinions on your work, if you can't handle opinions on your work. Thank you.

That said, I'm prepared to offer favourable reviews of your product in exchange for a reasonable amount of Bitcoin.

What was said was not in a posistive manor, if you dont like it thats great but dont sit there and tell me that is not even music cause thats horse shit.

Now, now, I obviously couldn't have said that, as I have not listened to your arrangement at all yet.

I would however be willing to listen for a reasonable contribution.

Maybe his full name is Safe Voucher? This is a multicultural platform after all.
3876  Economy / Goods / Re: Dank Metal - Silver for BTC @ $30/oz - Updated 12/12/12 on: December 25, 2012, 07:23:34 PM
So, Dank went nuts after his love and won't resbond?

I think he's playing the "I totally killed myself on 21/12" card. He hasn't been posting since. Of course one can see he's still religiously checking the forums on his profile. So that doesn't really work out that well.
3877  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: the useless bitcoin mainstream efforts on: December 25, 2012, 07:05:47 PM

And you form an opinion based on what Wired tells you?

I don't. The mainstream does.
3878  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: the useless bitcoin mainstream efforts on: December 25, 2012, 06:15:37 PM

Btw: bitcoin will begin to go mainstream in 50 days from now. I will bet my money on that.
Huh? It's going mainstream since almost 4 years and will continue to do so for a long while before any serious news outlet will ask "Is BTC mainstream?".

Wired begs to differ.

EXPIRED: Bitcoin

At the height of its popularity, Bitcoin was trumpeted as a viable alternative currency for the internet age, a monetary system engineered to prevent theft, gaming, and criminalization. Then came the malware, the black market, the legal ambiguities and The Man. Today, you can't even use it to buy Facebook stock.
3879  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Melting Coins? on: December 25, 2012, 08:13:09 AM
Technically, it is illegal to melt U.S. coins.  Other countries have similar laws I'd imagine.

It's illegal to melt US currency. The OP is planning to hoard pennies and nickels until they're phased out as currency, THEN melt them down.
3880  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Meanwhile in Times Square NYC...... on: December 24, 2012, 10:58:43 PM
I'm no advertising expert but spending a couple million on something that nobody even knows about(and thus nobody can tell another person about if someone even asked) doesn’t sound like smart advertising. As far as I've researched advertising anywhere on time square is at least $4 million/month and long term contracts are required.

Actually it's more like 300 bucks.
