3881  Economy / Speculation / Re: $10,000 in three years on: September 12, 2014, 05:40:30 PM
Of course he's trying to pump up his 30,000 BTC investment, he lost $5mill FIAT on it since July!   Shocked

I believe in Bitcoin, I'm just trying to figure out why it's declined from $650 in July to $470 now, with mostly positive news, investors and entrepeneurs alike trying to jump in, and increasing adoption.

Something's holding it back besides the proposed NY Bit license regulation, I just have no idea what it is.   Sad
3882  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Most Secure bitcoin wallet ? on: September 12, 2014, 05:01:20 PM
Definitely paper wallet or USB stick locked in a safe is the most secure.

Brain wallets are risky, especially if you develop Alzheimers, get a concussion, or get Amnesia somehow.

At least with paper and USB, your loved ones have access to it, in case you somehow pass.
3883  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How to pay for miner with Bitcoin on: September 12, 2014, 04:57:53 PM
Either Coinbase or PC based wallet like Electrum, Armory, Bitcoin core should work.

You should be able to pay in Bitcoin on Bitmain's website using any of these, just make you're sending to the right BTC Address.
3884  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Manufacturer Trustworthiness Guide on: September 12, 2014, 03:10:38 PM
Glad to see the guide stays updated Cheesy

Every time I update I get a fresh wave of flame so it only gets updated when I feel like getting flamed.

Hey, if you're getting flamed, it means a ton of people are reading your guides.

You know the saying, "opinions are like #holes, everyone's got one."

Personally, I think your guides are a good starting point for the uninitiated.  Are they perfect, nothing is, but to a noob who's about to pull a trigger on a purchase, they can see at a glance that Bitmain, Rockminer, and Spoondoolies ship and BFL, Black Arrow, and AMT suck donkey schlong.

Keep doing what your doing, screw the haters:

3885  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Selling digital goods for BTC on: September 12, 2014, 03:01:21 PM
Crytothrift is another auction eBay style website where you can sell goods:

https://cryptothrift.com/

If you use this forum, make sure you use escrow through a reputable member or service to provide a trustful transaction.
3886  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: is these coins are ponzi or else realmoney? on: September 12, 2014, 02:57:30 PM
How do the price rise or fall?  Is that the general question?  Price volatility, small market cap, whale buys shit load or dumps their coin?  This is just general market activity.

If you're referring to alt coins, they're all generally pump and dump schemes.  Similar to penny stocks and pink sheet stocks.

Just stick to BTC if you're dealing with Cryptocurrency.
3887  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are you interested in Bitcoin because of the concept or to get rich? on: September 12, 2014, 02:50:02 PM
I dont get how bitcoin give the concept of getting rich...

Easy concept.  See December of 2013 for an example of how people might get into Bitcoin to get rich:

Anybody that mined or bought BTC before that spike and held all their Bitcoin are now for the most part rich.
3888  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: can i mine with a regular laptop? on: September 12, 2014, 02:42:08 PM
The days of mining with your CPU and video cards are over.

It's officially the ASIC era, even with alt coins.  KNC just started shipping their scrypt miner Titan, so even the shit/scam coins network hash rate and difficulty will skyrocket through the roof.

Pick the easy way out, and just BUY and HODL BTC.
3889  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Avalon4(A3222) 28nm Chips are now on sales @ ehash.com on: September 12, 2014, 02:28:03 PM
Hey 20 chips at 25GH/s each for a total of 500 GH/s and 1BTC.  Bargain folks!   Tongue

If you guys are too lazy to put together your own miners (end sarcasm), then just buy one:

290 GH/s for about $300.  Ehh, still not worth it.
3890  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Channel 4 News (UK) Gives Very Positive Report on Bitcoin on: September 12, 2014, 02:19:15 PM
Wow, I'm actually quite shocked that the tone of that video clip was overall positive.   Shocked

Usually they'd fixate on Shrem, Silk Road, Gox, etc...but they actually focused on the positives and the potential.

Bravo CNBC UK.
3891  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Pix of one of the largest Bitcoin mines on: September 12, 2014, 01:29:07 PM
There's no way I could sleep in a warehouse with all that noise, flickering lights, and industrial cooling.

Not least of all is breathing all that toxic air coming from miners, warehouse, power supplies.  Definitely can't be healthy long term walking around that place 24/7.
3892  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Best pools now? 2011 member is now uninformed on: September 12, 2014, 01:22:43 PM
BTCGuild, Eligius, or Multipool.US for your multipool are all valid mining pools and pretty reliable with payouts.
3893  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: No one really NEED bitcoin on: September 12, 2014, 01:16:40 PM
Personally, I despise the banking system that wouldn't grant me a loan even though I was a loyal customer for nearly 18 years with great credit and multiple accounts(F U Bank of America), credit card companies that raise rates at the drop of dime and stick an annual fee on top, PayPal/eBay which sucks the life of any profit you thought you were making on a sale, and just any financial institution that preys on middle class on down.

I personally need a payment method/system/currency that won't constantly devalue over time like the "almighty dollar".  Not so long ago a full tank of gas was like $20-$30, a loaf of bread like $1, a gallon of milk like $1.50.  I know I know, inflation, but that's basically the counterpoint for having a cryptocurrency like Bitcoin.

Just my 2 satoshis on this obvious troll post.
3894  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What can I use Bitcoin miners for other than mining? on: September 11, 2014, 09:59:11 PM
You can use a small/mid size miner like say an Antminer S1 or S3 as a space heater in the winter time for you bed room.

That way you can earn some coin while heating those cold winter nights while you sleep.
3895  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: So say I have X amount of money on: September 11, 2014, 07:10:34 PM
$10k is about 21 Bitcoins.  You'll never mine back 21 Bitcoins no matter what hardware you buy, even with free electric.  If you continue to re-invest while mining, that's say another $15k to $20k down the drain that you'll never recoup.

I think another important factor you forgot even with free electrical costs, is the cooling costs required to cool $10k worth of equipment.  That's additional costs outside of the one you pay the electric company.  Whether it's home or small/medium datacenter, whether it's cheap Antminers or Spondoolies Tech equipment, you're going to have to pony up to extract all that additional heat.

$10k buys you 21 BTC, mining doesn't.  Easy decision.
3896  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Conned out of BTC a Civil Suite or Criminal Offense? on: September 11, 2014, 06:59:29 PM
People still write and pay with checks?!!!?   Huh Shocked Shocked

I kid, but not really.  Why didn't your boy just buy it from LocalBitcoins or Coinbase?

If I were you, I'd just tell him "tough lesson learned".
3897  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: bitmaintech refusing refunds on: September 11, 2014, 03:52:52 PM
Damn you guys are stupid.

I want the s3 I'm going to keep them.

I was tired of waiting and was going to try to cancel to buy some other ones quicker, they refused to refund my money, then the next day marked and shipped. There is no problems.

I'm perfectly happy with the s3 and that they are shipped "early".

just a tiny bit of reading comprehension needed to understand what's happening

If we're so stupid, why don't you lock the thread, since your thread title has been misleading this whole time?

Simple common sense applies here.
3898  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Mining ASICs Technologies Promises 6TH/s Bitcoin Miner And 200 MH/s Scrypt Miner on: September 11, 2014, 12:20:06 PM
So i ask dreamchip ,
getting answer that they coulnīt say something to this cause of secrecy agreement.

HaHa!  The old NDA defense to the Long Con.

Believe me, if they had working chips and miners, they wouldn't be so coy, they'd make sure demo/review units were all over the place, youtube videos, and plenty of marketing and actual photos and proof were produced.

Until they provide an actual miner to someone in this forum, they can't be anything other than a scam.
3899  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Which Is Best on: September 10, 2014, 08:59:57 PM
Brian all that information is already available in the forums.  If you look in the hardware forum you will find lots of guides including Dogie's guide https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=702653.0 which is a atlas for new miners.

You have to do the legwork to decide which miner is right for you.

As far as profit, currently all miners as well as cloud mining is unprofitable.  If you read the forums you will see complete and detailed explanations of this.

Thnks DrG, will have a look in the hardware forum. Was not aware that this information was there.
 Wink
Brian

Brian, you might also want to state how much you're willing to invest and potentially lose.  Basically what's your current budget and are you willing to re-invest in more hardware to keep up with difficulty jumps.

Also, you'd probably want to state what's your current electrical costs.  Mining at home is essentially dead, especially if you have costs over $0.10 k/WH.

Make sure you read over Dogie's guide like DrG said, but also if you're small timer or home miner investing say $1000 or less, know going in you'll never make that $1000 back.  If you accept that going in, then you're just mining for fun, education, and hobby.  If you're looking for ROI or profit, you'll need free/cheap electric and need to run something like this:

Actually there is no guarantee of not making back fiat ROI.  Say he spent $1000 on 2 S3s (Batch Cool and some PSUs.  Say it mined back 1BTC.  If BTC stays at $400 the yes he's down $600 (and only has a PSU to show for it).  If BTC goes to $5000 per coin then he will have made $4000 profit (5k-1k) in fiat.  Of course why bother mining - he could have easily bought 2 BTC today, not mined, and then he would have $9000 (2*5k - 1k) profit.

So fiat ROI is definitely possible but mining doesn't make sense financially since buying coins right now is a better investment.  This may change in 6 months.

You're absolutely right, DrG!  It is possible with a fiat price spike of Bitcoin, and if he purchased it with fiat.   Grin

If say Brian charged it or paid cash for those miners, then yes any spike up in value that exceeds his initial fiat investment is considered profit.  But, if he bought $1000 worth of BTC, then bought the miners for 2 BTC, say in this forum in the "Goods" section, then he'd probably wouldn't mine that 2 BTC back.  That's the only point I was trying to make, the BTC in, BTC out argument of ROI.

Otherwise, I agree 1000% will all your points.
3900  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: bitmaintech refusing refunds on: September 10, 2014, 06:16:11 PM
I guess they didn't want to refund since they shipped them this morning

Dude, you just wasted 1 minute of my life reading this thread.

If you knew they shipped already, why post this drivel.

learn to read retard.

I know how to read quite well.  Why would Bitmaintech honor your refund if they have shipped out already?

Also, you may want to capitalize sentences once in awhile to be taken seriously in this forum.

you obviously can't read, because if you could, you might see that my no refund post was the 9th, and they shipped it the 10th. dumbass

So isn't that a good thing?  Why didn't you lock the thread since they honored their agreement, and did in fact ship a miner to you as promised before the 20th?  Maybe put an "Update" or "Edit" that you made a premature mistake by implying that Bitmain was not being "Classy".

I don't think you thought this all the way through.
