No doubt that funding does play a big role here and tbh we can't even blame associate nations if they are tiptoeing on this road because rules are already set, which clearly need a fresh eye and then followed by reform but i suppose it's a fool's errand.

ICC on the other hand won't give full status to any new country, at least for a decade or so.

I am keenly awaiting the ICC funds distribution formula for the cycle 2024-27. Their revenues have increased by 3 times and now they can allot a higher share to smaller nations. I don't really have a problem with BCCI getting a larger share of the funds. But then what is the justification for Zimbabwe getting 100 times the funds compared to Nepal or Namibia? As per current formula, Zimbabwe gets $12 million per year from the ICC, while Nepal receives $200,000. This lop-sided distribution structure needs to be changed.

Full member actually means test status and on paper or at least in their public statements almost everyone wants to play test cricket and display their love for test cricket. It could be due to the romanticization of test cricket or funding or it could be both.

Personally, I'm not in favor of test status for new countries due to various reasons but in case they get the tag then they must play the red ball and it's ICC's duty to facilitate them.

Ireland was getting around $500,000 per year from the ICC before they became a test nation and their funding increased to $5 million (10x) after they got the full member status. Now other teams such as United Arab Emirates, Scotland, Netherlands and Nepal also want to become test playing nations, because they want the increased funding from the ICC. This need to be stopped. These teams don't have any genuine love for test format. If the gap in funding between full members and top ranking associates get reduced, then there will be no need for these teams to demand test status.

After many days later Delhi Capitals got their desired win. It is really a big achievement for them. But I am not very optimistic about their win as they have lost 6 wickets while playing a target of just 127 runs which raises questions about their quality of play. Kolkata Knight Riders decline is the main reason for Delhi Capitals victory in this match. Otherwise this team could not win. If Kolkata Knight Riders could have given the target of 160 runs Delhi Capitals would have lost this match too.

Well.. let's first look at the positives. David Warner's fine form continues, and during the last game his strike rate improved quite a bit. Anrich Nortje was exceptional with the ball, and this time around he received good support from Ishant Sharma, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav. The only negative that I could notice was that Delhi Capitals bowlers failed to take the last wicket quickly, which allowed the two tailenders from Kolkata Knight Riders (Andre Russell and Varun Chakravarthy) to build a 31 run partnership. Kolkata Knight Riders managed to bat the full quota of 20 overs.

You have to keep remembering the reasons why people vote for who they vote for. People who are republicans end up voting because they like Trump, and people who are democrats do not vote for Biden because they like him, they vote for him because they dislike Trump.

You think Biden managed to get the highest ever voter turnout for him? Of course not, it was "vote whoever against Trump" that got that many people out of their homes. Looking at how Trump still could be the candidate, and likely one at that, I say Biden still has a chance if he was dead, let alone dementia. I say at least 50-60 million would vote for a dead person or a dog or a parrot, rather than vote for Trump, so when you have a very old Biden, he still gets most of the votes.

Not very sure about whether your arguments are applicable to 2024. It was definitely a major factor in 2020. Trump was in power back then and he created a lot of controversy by appointing a number of right-wing judges (Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett). Obama during his 8 years could nominate just two (Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan), but Trump managed more than that in his 4 years. And this in turn resulted in some controversial judgements against abortion and in the end it got the female voters fired up. But situation in 2024 will be different. Trump has been out of power for too long and the people are no longer polarized against him (at least not in the same degree as they were in 2020).

Despite low target DC's batting lineup has been struggling, except David Warner, Axar Patel, and Manish Pandey. DC's bowling unit was the real star of yesterday's match and deserves praises. Yesterday's match, both teams seemed to have difficulty, but ultimately KKR was unable to come out on top. Despite some tough competition from KKR's spinners, Delhi Capitals managed to break their five-game losing streak and got the win. DC should bounce back from here.

Manish Pandey has also not scored a lot of runs in this season. He has just 97 runs to his name from 4 matches. And in case of Axar, the excuse is that he bats a lot down the order. But what about the other batsmen such as Prithvi Shaw and Mitchell Marsh? They are also not scoring runs. There are complaints about Warner batting slowly. But during the last match, his strike rate was close to 140. He scored 57 runs from 41 balls, while all the other batsmen scored a grand total of 64 runs from 73 balls at a strike rate of 87. Still Warner gets the blame.

Yesterday's 4th T20 match between Pakistan vs New Zealand was postponed due to rain and there was no match result.  But I was pretty sure in my prediction that if the match had ended well then Pakistan would have won. However, if New Zealand had won this match, Pakistan and new New Zealand  will same score. because Pakistan had won 1st and 2nd match and New Zealand was won 3rd match against Pakistan.

Again, how can you be so sure? Did you watched the 3rd T20I between New Zealand and Pakistan? Apart from Iftikhar Ahmed at no.8 (who scored a valuable 60 runs from 24 balls) none of the Pakistani batsmen were able to make significant contributions. At one point, they were 88/7. And remember that this is against a second string New Zealand attack that is lacking Tim Southee, Kyle Jamieson, Trent Boult and Mitchell Santner. On paper, Pakistan is much stronger than New Zealand. But consistency is a big problem, as it has been in the recent past.

^^^ LOL.. this shogun dude got it all wrong. Check the article again, shogun47. It is from 2018. Back then it was the plan. FIFA wanted to have 16 groups of 3 teams each and the total number of matches was set at 80. But after Qatar 2022, FIFA changed the format for the 2026 World Cup and went back to 4-team per group setting. This was done in order to avoid strong teams from getting kicked out of the world cup, in case they have the misfortune of suffering one or two upset results. For a more updated news article, you can refer this one. This is from 2023, and not from 2018:

It is funny how the proponents of socialism tries to spin this topic. They always come up with 20% rich people oppressing the remaining 80%. But they never mention the simple fact that citizens of the United States, who comprise just 4% of the world's population account for 31% if the global wealth. None of the other countries even come close. China account for 18% of the global wealth, but they also account for a similar share in the global population. But we never hear about socialists in the United States asking their government to help the poor people outside their country.

How do you feel about recruiters walking around town handing out conscription notes? Not long ago there was an article that they're planning to send summons through email and mobile phones and if you ignore them you'll get your driving license suspended and won't be able to get a loan.
It's already happened, and I think this is great news as it's another big step towards the downfall of the totalitarian system.

From what I heard, Russia has so far mobilized only those with previous military experience and members of the Rosgvardiya. On the other hand, Ukraine has gone through more than a dozen rounds of mobilization and young men of military age are rounded up from their houses and public places and forcibly sent to die in Bakhmut and Avdeevka. Every year around 300,000 conscripts join the military in Russia. They can easily recruit millions of former coscripts, but so far they have restricted their draft to the former contract soldiers.

I for some reason donot like Venkatesh Iyer, maybe it's his batting style or his sloppy fielding. He has been vey inconsistent with his bat and that makes him not someone to put your trust on. The last over and three back to back six by Russell helped KKR go beyond the 100 score mark.

I have a good opinion about Venkatesh Iyer. He has the potential to become a promising all rounder. India is facing an acute shortage of quality pace bowling allrounders. Venkatesh can easily fill this vacuum, if he is groomed properly. At this point, only Hardik Pandya can handle pace bowling and batting equally well. Other options such as Shardul Thakur are weak in the batting department. But as I said earlier, the biggest problem with Venkatesh is his inconsistency. He scored a century in one match, and got out for zero in the next one.
3911  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: April 21, 2023, 02:57:23 AM
First win by DC in this season. This win will give a morale boost to the players and especially the captain. Good thinking by the team management in adding Ishant Sharma into the bowling attack. It worked wonders for DC as they were able to eliminate KKR top order within the powerplay.

The batting order of DC still looks shaky. If Warner hadn't scored 57 then they would have lost this match too. Prithvi Shaw again failed to give his team a good start. It has become quite common now as he has been getting out cheaply.

Delhi Capitals persisted with Mustafizur Rahman despite persistent failures. They should have given chances to reserve players much earlier. At least now they decided to bring in Ishant Sharma and his experience was very valuable during yesterday's match. And for the first time so far in this season, Anrich Nortje got some support from the other end. Kolkata Knight Riders put up a very poor performance. Only Jason Roy was able to dig in and towards the end Andre Russell made some valuable runs. Venkatesh Iyer once again showed how inconsistent he is.

Situation is middle east is changing altogether. KSA after negotiating with Iran now shakes hands with Syria. KSA making peace means all Gulf countries doing the same. KSA has also shown tilt towards Russia and China which is clear indication that KSA is looking for new alliance. But if KSA moves away from USA then what will happen to KSA billions of dollars residing in USA banks ?

It's amazing to know that Iran has such technology or they have such combat experience that they can make USA nuclear powered submarine to surface. For decades Iran has been isolated because of USA sanctions and despite that Iran is standing shoulder to shoulder with USA in military technology.

The new king (Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud) is quite intelligent and he refuses to be a slave of the United States. It was just a matter of time before the Saudis realize that they are being used as the lapdogs by the United States. As a result they are improving the cooperation between Iran and it's allies such as Syria. Also, they have helped Russia in difficult times, by agreeing to a crude oil production cut. And Russia is not exporting huge quantities of diesel to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, where they are being rebranded and re-exported.

This is something that Baffles me, I don't know very well what the internal Movement is like in the USA, but Trump has Found it difficult to reach the 2024 candidacy, and this is for a Reason, maybe they have some kind of inside information and Trump can't be there because he's the eventual winner? And that's why they are Charging him with so many charges to see if they can put him behind bars? I don't know, why now? It is assumed that the USA is a Country that does not miss Anything, so why did these things and these investigations take place until now?

Trump is far ahead of everyone else as far as the Republican nomination is considered. I was hoping that Ron DeSantis would offer some resistance, but in the recent months his backing has gone down catastrophically (and there is a very strong chance that DeSantis may not even enter the race). At this point, the only chance that Trump will not contest the 2024 POTUS elections is if he is arrested and put into jail. Nation-wide, he is leading Biden by a healthy margin, and Trump hasn't enjoyed these sort of leads anytime during his political career in the past.

That's the problem and the beauty of football competitions. To win the title a team needs to have luck, not only quality. Because in knockout games one red card or one penalty can make all the difference and otherwise inferior team can win. That's why I actually don't like to say that some team will probably win a competition because you never know. Look at Croatia and how they played at the last two World Cups. They finished as second and third team and I honestly can't say (even though I'm from Croatia) that Croatia is one of the top three teams in the world.

It takes a lot of skill to win matches that are decided on the basis of penalty shootouts. If you look at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, out of a total of 16 knockout matches, 4 were decided on the basis of penalties. These matches were:

Round of 16:
Japan vs Croatia
Morocco vs Spain

Quarter-finals:
Croatia vs Brazil
Netherlands vs Argentina

And in 2 out of 4 matches, we had huge upsets (Brazil losing to Croatia, and before that Spain losing to Morocco). And it will be wrong to say that these two teams won just because of luck.

The world can not afford a new variant. Right now we are already allowed to go out and work to survive this crisis. If there will be lockdowns again because of the new variant, people will take it to the streets. Care nothing about this virus but breaking into some grocery stores.

With the announcement of Kenndy Jr running for president, I think Trump and Biden may just be out of the picture. This could be serious once he gets a ton of supporters since this is the time when there really is an adult in the room to just how to make things right.

That announcement from Robert F. Kennedy Jr. made an already complicated situation even more complex. But the most important thing here is that Kennedy will be competing for Democrat Party nomination, and he is not interested in running the 2024 elections as an independent candidate. If he loses the primaries to Biden (which looks extremely likely as of now), then he will just support Biden for the 2024 bid. One thing that the Democrats want to avoid is a polarized Democrat voter base, similar to what happened in 2016. The chances are low, as Kennedy is more of a mainstream politician when compared to Sanders.

If the likes of IRE + AFG are not getting 8-10 or a minimum of 5-6 tests every year then it would be better to revoke their full member status as it's directly connected to funding.
~~~
This is the tricky part. Even if Ireland and Afghanistan doesn't want to play test matches, they are being forced to do so. Because without the test status, there will be a sharp reduction in the funds. Ireland received $5 million per year from the ICC once they attained full member status, and the share was 1/10th of that amount before that. Afghanistan is not receiving anything from ICC as a result of the Taliban takeover, so I'll skip them for now. Full member status doesn't automatically mean test status. There maybe good teams that are not competent in test cricket. For heaven's sake even "senior" full member nations such as Sri Lanka and West Indies are not competent in test cricket nowadays.
They are always going to be a very important country economically in the whole world. We all know that the big countries all around the world are always buying oil from them. And previously that’s why they have always been very important economically. But now as they have made the country open to visit for people all around the world, they are also earning money in that way.
Crude oil consumption has reached a peak and now the exports from Saudi Arabia are declining. The prices are struggling in the $80-$90 per barrel range, and this is despite all the production cuts being implemented by the OPEC+. Saudis are more intelligent when compared to some of their neighboring states. They don't have any other natural resources apart from oil, and they know that they will be in trouble once the EVs replace gasoline and diesel driven vehicles. But then the question arises. Can this big spending on cricket be justified? Without the Indian players, I don't know how they are going to make any sort of profits.
3918  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Indian Premier League #IPL on: April 21, 2023, 01:47:42 AM
Even in the low scoring match Delhi Capitals have struggled hard to win the match and start its point count. Losing 6 wickets and winning at the last over is really bad performance for this score. If Warner have failed to score good runs at the beginning, the match is sure loss as no other players performed according to the situation. Anyhow a good day for Delhi Capitals, the win could help them have confidence and progress further as they've recorded their first win in their sixth match.
The core issue remains for Delhi Capitals. Apart from David Warner, none of the other batsmen are scoring runs. Warner has so far scored 285 runs so far in this season, at an average of 47.50. None of the other batsmen are even close, and in the second position they have Axar Patel who has scored 148 runs. And Manish Pandey is a distant third, with just 97 runs. And it is almost similar situation with the bowling as well. Anrich Nortje is the only bowler who has performed consistently. The spinners (Axar Patel & Kuldeep Yadav) are not consistent, and Mustafizur Rahman has been a complete failure.
I don't know why everyone here is saying that Pakistan was going to win the match if the rain interruption didn't happened. I don't agree with that argument. New Zealand could have scored somewhere around 175-180 from 20 overs. And during the last match, the Kiwi bowlers managed to bowl out Pakistan for just 159 runs, with James Neesham and Adam Milne picking up the wickets. At the best, I would say that there was a 50-50 chance. But New Zealand had the momentum with them, and IMO they had a better chance.
3920  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA World Cup 2026 :Canada/Mexico/United States: Discussion Thread on: April 21, 2023, 01:27:05 AM
USA will have control, next will be Canada and atlast it will be Mexico. As in the previous post, somehow the involvement of three countries into the league needs to be appreciated. When a small country like Qatar can host, USA and the other two countries can host the World Cup independent. But the three countries agreed to co-host needs to be appreciated and for the same reason three countries are into the league. We can't be conclusive, because beyond our thoughts the officials will be thinking about this and they'd be having specific reasons for each and every activity connected with it.
Out of the total of 104 matches, as per my understanding a total of 80 will be hosted by the United States. I guess Mexico and Canada will be hosting 12 matches each. Not the ideal situation where each of the co-hosts getting an equal share of matches. Then numbers indicate that the United States are the real hosts, and Canada and Mexico are there just to make up the numbers. And it is not surprising at all. Both these nations don't have the necessary infrastructure to host such a large number of matches. They got the automatic qualification as a result of being the co-hosts and they should be happy about it.
