As it says on the Pools page to change the template, ssh in to your miner and do the edit using:

Code:
vi /etc/cgminer.conf.template

thanks for that I may do so.
39043  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Feb 22 to March 9 diff thread with contest included. on: February 25, 2015, 04:15:26 PM
Assuming it's still available, I'll take the +3.51% to +3.75% slot.

This is sort of an interesting change, though I'm not sure I like it. It feels more constricting since I can't select the number I like because it's in a range taken by someone else, so a speedy reply is more of a factor now than it was before. Posting another guess as the closing date draws closer is also limited, since it's likely the range will already be taken.

yeah that is the down side.  upside is no ties.   and no surrounding a pick.

Ie.  I pick   -1.11%    and seriouscoin picks   -1.12%   then using another name from his work pc he picks -1.10%    thus surrounding my pick of -1.11%  making me a sure loser.

(well almost sure) .

Now I am in a range of -1.01% to -1.25 %   thus a full surrounding is not possible.
39044  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: S5 and SP20 sold out on: February 25, 2015, 02:45:21 PM
Probably both. Sales of S5 will likely resume, and they'll also likely release S2 upgrades, possibly with a full S6 not too far behind it.

I expect sales to start back today or tomorrow.  S-5 and a S-2 upgrade. Not sure if they will sell an s-6.
39045  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [lee group]340$ the sales promotion of hosted antminer S5(golden psu included) on: February 25, 2015, 02:26:16 PM

39046  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Unofficial Spondoolies SP20 thread on: February 25, 2015, 01:57:40 PM
I just finished setting up my new SP20 Nano farm up in the basement.

I used a d-link DIR-615 with dd-wrt installed to make a client bridge and hooked all the SP20's up with ethernet from the router.

Downloaded firmware 2.6.14, set voltages to 0.62 startup and 0.636 max.

Getting about 1125GH/s per unit at ~590W. Running 2 on a 1300W PSU and the other on a 1000W PSU. Fan speed at 20% seems to keep all ASICs at 85c and exit temps at 60c for the top shelf unit. You can't even really hear them at all upstairs unless you stand by the stairway.

Definitely pleased with this purchase!

good I hope you do well with them.
39047  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [De-classified] Avalon 4.1 miner review on: February 25, 2015, 01:54:05 PM
I have seen many user in this forum including me that dont have the skill or the time to learn using these miners without a controller and go into the time wasting story to test different things and specially drivers usb connection cables etc.(someone will say ok but you learn thrue this)
so how much more will be to be build with a controller inside and all the trimming and tuning to be done with software??? with a single ethernet cable???
they build this kind of excellent hardware and they dont put the controller.
its like selling a car without a wheels...
there must be a reason except cost I believe but can find out what it is..

well I thought about this.  If you have a  pair of rasp pi's  and 2 or 3  sd cards .  you will never have down time due to a dead controller.

So if you run 6-10 of these off one rasp pi you have instant backup.

The settings are all software and if you do bad settings  just slap in the second card.  If you kill off the rasp pi just pull the second one out.  So if you want to mine these in bulk the rasp pi is better then a built in controller

downside of these is you want just 1 it will have more wires then an sp20e.

It's still early to tell but I feel like there will be a decreasing difficulty next time.  I think there will be a lot of changes in predictions before the deadline... Smiley

I don't think there will be very much room for changes. There are too few spots available within a reasonable range for it to make sense for someone to give up their spot.

My guess is -3.26% to - 4.00%

I think you want -3.26% to -3.50%

the max pick is only a  0.25 wide spread

so -3.26% to -3.50%  =   a 0.25  wide spread
39050  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Power Supply 700w on: February 25, 2015, 04:44:14 AM
I am guessing you bought some crappy PSU's which were overly cheap and they lied on their loads.

You are right. They are relatively cheap... MARS MP700, i though they were going be more than enough but...

I have 3x SP20 Jackson and I found that if I increase w more than 100 the PSU goes off... I should have been able to set the PSU to 280 to exploit the full potential. However, if I was lucky enough to have a good PSU, cables would not have lasted more than 1 week...

they are total garbage shit.

read and weep

http://www.jonnyguru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12131

Next

 sp20e is not   a 1700gh miner
sp20e should only be run at 1600gh with really good psu's  and sucks power like a mad dog.
 you should not attempt .

unless you have a very good psu and your power price  for  kwatts needs to be  very low 6 or 7 cents.

your goals should be return that shit set of psu's and buy a good one.

where do you live USA ?

you should  try settings like this once you get a good psu.

39052  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: February 25, 2015, 12:12:26 AM
...
And as mining gear becomes cheaper to manufacture and operate, bitcoin prices will continue to fall.
...
Care to explain ?

If the price of bitcoin trends towards the cost of producing it, and the cost of producing it decreases, then the price of bitcoin decreases
I think the price of bitcoin is determined by the market, not by the cost of producing it.

When bitcoin hit $1200 it wasn't because the cost of producing it increased, it was market forces.

The cost of producing bitcoin is raised or lowered to meet the market price, not the other way around. If bitcoin goes up to $1000, miners will see a profit incentive and more rigs will come online... driving up the mining difficulty and hence the cost of producing each bitcoin. If bitcoin goes down, some miners will switch off unprofitable rigs, reducing the cost of producing bitcoin (for the remaining miners). Mining expands or contracts to maintain an equilibrium where the profit from mining is marginal, whatever the market price is.

Miners are reacting to the market price, not the other way around. Very few people buying bitcoin would perform a calculation to see how much it would cost to mine bitcoin (i.e. what the production cost is), instead they look at the current market price.

perception of value  vs price.

Diamonds   are perceived as valuable .  People pay the money for them.

BTC has a  perceived value  people pay  to get it.

Here is 1 example of why BTC can go up in price.

If I were in a country that I was going to leave in a hurry.
I would value BTC a lot more  as I do not need to carry it out with me. I can leave the country with just the clothes on my back.

39056  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Unofficial Spondoolies SP20 thread on: February 24, 2015, 07:45:07 PM
Thanks. That's a good idea.

Since WestHash is closer to me, here's how I've configured my pools now:

westhash.com  p=0.0159
nicehash.com  p=0.016
kano.is
f2pool.com
antpool.com

Looks like I'm all set. At least until the next difficulty change and I have to recompute the profit constant.

Of course what we need now is some event to drive rentals through the roof, like what happened with Paycoin  Smiley

yeah but sometimes people do all  the hash at  a top rate for ½ a day you will pick up on that every time now.

philipma1957, I've got more thoughts about pool strategy. I guess I'll continue the conversation here, unless you think we should create a separate pool strategy thread.

I've had fun with the above pool strategy, but it's been a bit harrowing being primarily on a high variance pool. If it wasn't for that fairly recent string of insane luck on kano.is, I'm not sure if I'd be ahead.

I know that everyone says that variance doesn't matter, long term. But if you're gunning for a short term ROI (relatively speaking), it seems like low variance is critical as difficulty goes up.

As the difficulty was floundering up until recently, I haven't stressed too much about variance and have been playing on smaller pools. But now I'm 80 days in with my SP20 and about 75% of ROI, and the difficulty seems to be rallying a bit. So rather than gambling on smaller pools, I'm thinking of going the conservative route of low variance until I hit ROI. The problem is that I don't like contributing to the dominance of larger pools.

So here's what I'm thinking. I'll set NiceHash/WestHash as the primary, but with a low profitability threshold. I'm thinking about 1% over nominal BTC/THs/Day. With a 2% NiceHash fee, basically this means I'm agreeing to lose 1% over nominal to mine there, which seems fair. Then I'll set up f2pool.com as the secondary.

The idea here is that as long as NiceHash is doing slightly better than nominal BTC, I'll mostly be mining there. This way I'll capture nominal profits as well as any upticks. And when NiceHash is in the dumps, the miner will revert to f2pool.com. Sure f2pool.com has high fees, but if it pays for every submit that means that the fees are the only cost of frequent bouncing between NiceHash and f2pool.com.

I'm hoping that by mostly mining on a rental site, I'm effectively contributing to decentralization (hopefully), while enjoying lowering variance.

How does this strategy sound to you?

yeah could work.  I would do nice/west hash   higher say   1.16

Also philpma add deadlines for enteries ?

okay 5.26 to 5.50     would be your pick  and there is kind of an issue with that number . due to

 tss

 kind of picking wrong.

for now I will reserve that number with tss as first then you second  but suchmoon is running this promo.

I will send you a pm.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

as for deadline look for suchmoon's info on that. here

MARCH 1st.

Anybody know gauge the cables are for EVGA G2 power supplies? They are red, and sleeved, with nothing to indicate 18AGW or 16AWG. This seems to be a risk associated with use of the PCIe standard way beyond it's original intent.
the evga 1300 g2 are 16 ga.  I have never had an issue with them.

and I will say running the gear beyond a 240 watt is risky I set mine at 200 and underclock.
