Nothing complex, to my understanding Saudi Arabia needs more people to visit their country. In the past the country was completely connected with traditional activities. Now it want things to be modernised that could make more people visit the country. The country is planning to have different streams of income apart from the oil. Earlier the country used to be more friendly with USA, and now the country want to be independent. So, different steps have been taken. One of which is the cricket league.

Cricket is a sport that is restricted to South Asia. Popularity outside the South Asian community has been declining continuously over the past few decades. Given this, I am not sure whether Saudi Arabia would be much interested in establishing a cricket league and spending tons of money on it. I know that they are trying really hard to get the hosting rights for the 2030 FIFA World Cup. And they have hosted a few high profile boxing matches recently. The LIV Golf tournament is also getting popular. It needs to be seen how much importance they give to cricket, given the fact that none of the natives are interested in it.

All of this revenue might go down if Saudi Arabia is able to start thier own cricket league with or without the help of BCCI. At first BCCI had straight away said no Indian players will be allowed to participate now it seems they might allow.

If Indian players are not allowed to participate in the extremely cash rich Saudi league still they would get other players and BCCI might lose most of the foreign players this why BCCI might agree in sending the Indian players. They also might buy some stakes in that league.

This is what I am hearing on multiple social media channels. What do you think?

I don't think that the BCCI will allow Indian players to participate in the Saudi league. If they do so, then their own league (Indian Premier League) would be under threat. And the international calendar is already jam packed. The BCCI wants to have a 3 month window for the IPL. From where they are going to create space for the Saudi league? BCCI may be interested only in case they get the lions share of the revenues. Since there is no income tax in Saudi Arabia, it is beneficial for the BCCI to host tournaments there. But then why should the Saudi Arabian Cricket Federation forfeit the control of their league to the BCCI?

Ireland is still a new team in test cricket. In a decade time they would be far better than team like Bangladesh and even Srilanka. It was obvious that they would be defeated by Srilanka in such a manner. The test match is being played in Galle stadium which is known for spin. The Irish batters are far behind in playing on spin wickets. I am expecting somewhat similar result in the next test match too.

A decade is a very long time. We don't even know whether test cricket will be played till then. Bangladesh got their test status in 1999. 24 years have passed and even now they struggle against the top teams. Overall, test cricket is dying outside the pig-4 nations. Even in South Africa and Pakistan, the situation is not very hopeful. The less talked about West Indies and Sri Lanka, that better. And regarding Ireland, I would still stick to my argument that they were given test status before they were ready for it.

Today's 27th Match of Indian Premier League has already started. Punjab Kings team won the toss and decided to bowl today. Royal Challengers Bangalore came to bat. Scored 63 runs in 7 overs. Royal Challengers Bangalore have not lost any wicket so far. Faf in batting.  du Plessis scored 28 runs off 19 balls. Virat Kohli scored 32 runs off 23 balls. Looks like Virat Kohli will score good runs.

The eternal losers of the Indian Premier League (Royal Challengers Bangalore) are up against the losers of this season (Punjab Kings). Bangalore has got a good start, with the partnership between Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis worth 81 runs. But the main issue will be middle order batting. Apart from these two and Glenn Maxwell, none of the other batsmen are in form. And they have the useless Shahbaz Ahmed at no.5 and Dinesh Karthik at no.6. Karthik is in poor form so far this season. A total of 180 plus should ensure full points to Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Lucknow Supergiant has replaced Mark Wood with Naveen-ul-Haq. And Naveen-ul-Haq's bowling was quite good in this match. However, he could not pick up any wickets. However, Naveen-ul-Haq scored the least runs in the LSG team. This bowler gave only 19 runs in 4 overs. So the decision not to include Mark Wood does not seem to have been a risky one. But Rajasthan's performance really disappointed me. They managed to collect more than 80 for the first wicket pair. Despite having so many experienced batsmen at the crease, they were not able to collect 154 runs in this match. This is very sad.

Defending such a small total, taking early wickets was important. And this is something Mark Wood has been doing in the previous matches. I don't know who took the decision to replace him with Naveen-ul-Haq, but IMO it was a very foolish one. Wood at this point is the top wicket taker in this season of the Indian Premier League. Naveen on the other hand didn't managed to pick any wickets and Rajasthan Royals lost their first wicket only in the 12th over. Luckily for them, Avesh Khan and Marcus Stoinis tied down the RR batsmen during the middle overs, ensuring 2 points in this match.
3926  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Indian Premier League #IPL on: April 20, 2023, 07:04:42 AM
The announcement of the team leaving out the tournament's highest wicket-taker Mark Wood from the starting eleven was a real surprise. But despite keeping him out of the team, the performance of the LSG bowlers was outstanding. Batting failure LSG batsmen managed to score only 154 runs in this IPL event 154 runs is a very low score especially to win against Rajasthan. But the LSG bowlers made the target of 155 runs a much bigger one. Their team won by 10 runs on their brilliant bowling. But by winning this match, only LSG's points have increased but Rajasthan is number one in the points table with equal number of points.

The decision to drop Mark Wood would have easily backfired on Lucknow Super Giants. But poor batting from Rajasthan Royals and pathetic captaincy from Sanju Samson handed 2 valuable points for the LSG. When Yashasvi Jaiswal got out, RR were at 87/1 after 11.3 overs. They needed another 68 runs from 8.3 overs, with 9 wickets in hand. It is difficult to imagine a team losing from this position, and that too against inexperienced bowlers like Naveen-ul-Haq and Ravi Bishnoi. But somehow Samson and his guys managed to lose the match.

~edited out~

Well.. I don't know. They have played 5 test matches ever since they got the test status in 2019. That is 1.25 matches per year.
This is the main reason they are not improving. I'd say give them (Afg and Ire) 8-10 tests every year and see how much they will improve in the next 5 years.

Likes of New Zealand and India etc also took ages to improve in test cricket. The former won their first test match after losing 40-ish odd matches.

First of all, I don't think that any of the teams would play more than 4-5 matches per year. It is the least popular format of the game now, and wasting 50 days per year for it doesn't make sense. Now coming to Ireland, Cricket Ireland has been complaining for some time about the lack of infrastructure at home and they claim that it is prohibitively expensive for them to host test matches. And then, the major players (Josh Little, Paul Stirling.etc) are not always available due to their commitments with the IPL and English county cricket.

I know the UAE squad lacks experienced players. And they have no long-term plans. Also, most of the players in their squad are expatriates of Indian, Pakistani, or Omani origin. But now the team is improving as it is. I think UAE will think about the future of their cricket. If they move forward with long-term planning, the team will become stronger in the future. They have proved that they have the capability. Now they need a world-class coach. Hope the UAE Board will take Khan Cricket very seriously

LOL.. there are no players of "Omani" origin in the UAE team. The Oman national team itself never had a single player of Omani origin. All of the players in the UAE squad hold citizenship of either India or Pakistan and are residing in the UAE on tourist or work visa. UAE government doesn't care much about cricket, but they are happy that ICC is based in that country and with each passing year they receive an increasing share of the ICC revenues. They have no plans to spread cricket to the natives and it will forever remain as an expat sport.

There is a statement from Marizanne Kapp regarding the performance of some of the associate players in the recently concluded FairBreak Invitational tournament (second edition):

https://scroll.in/field/1047139/cricket-marizanne-kapp-on-how-associate-players-are-standing-out-at-fairbreak-invitational

This year's edition witnessed 6 teams taking part in the tournament, with a majority of the players hailing from associate nations. The BCCI as usual, banned it's players from taking part. The matches were held in Hong Kong, and in the final match Warriors defeated Falcons by 94 runs. Hayley Matthews was the player of the match, for scoring 123.

Riyan Parag was picked by Rajasthan Royals as a batsman only. I have not seen Riyan Parag bowling till now. Riyan has not been able to bat well in any match even though he was selected as a batsman. Rajasthan Royals management signed Parag at a huge cost. He was unbeaten with 15 off 12 balls in the last match against LSG. His chance was to become a hero by bringing victory to Rajasthan in this match. However, the inclusion of RIyan Parag was a loss project for Rajasthan Royals.

52 matches without making a significant contribution. That is unheard of anywhere else. The same Sanju Samson dropped Karun Nair after he failed in one match. Anyway, if the team management is OK with it, then why we should care? And this guy (Samson) is being hyped as the future captain of the Indian national team. Whatever they have achieved in this season is due to the performances from Boult, Buttler and Hetmyer. Samson is yet to make a significant impact, but the media is full of praises for him.
3931  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: April 20, 2023, 04:09:20 AM
Parag failed to prove himself in every match.  Cricket is a game of performance if nepotism is here then it can never bring good for the team. Even if Parag is very much liked by Sanju Samson, he has to perform and make his place in the team otherwise he will never bring anything good to the team.

Parag has played a total of 52 matches so far in the Indian Premier League, making his debut in 2019. So far he has managed to score just 576 runs, at an average of 16.46, and strike rate of 123.61. Although he is being branded as an allrounder, he has only taken 4 wickets so far, at an average of 70.00 costing 10.70 runs per over. And he was purchased by Rajasthan Royals for a massive amount of ₹38,000,000. There are so many youngsters waiting to get a chance for RR, but for some unknown reason Parag gets the first preference everytime.
3932  Economy / Economics / Re: Americans go to Mexico for medicals to cut costs. on: April 20, 2023, 03:53:14 AM
Im surprised Canada is not a valid alternative though it will depend which border you are closer to and prices might be cheaper in Mexico but for quality assurance I'd want a company who regularly available personally.  People in Europe goto Turkey maybe because of the very weak currency standard it can mean prices are cheaper then having work done privately.  Though its also the case that national coverage of citizens is much better in Europe overall its not perfect and obvious the cosmetic aspect would mean private work needed quite often.

There may be factors other than proximity. Mexico has emerged as a medical tourist destination and the federal and state governments do attract such tourists form the United States with flashy deals. I don't think that Canada is much bothered, since there is a shortage of medical staff there. And influx of American tourists can put strain on the medical sector there. Here in Asia, Singapore and Thailand has emerged as premium destinations for medical tourists from the US, European Union and Japan. Medical procedures costs only 1/5th or so of the prices in the US and the quality is the same.
3933  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Being Russia and Russian now on: April 20, 2023, 03:43:16 AM
Well, I cannot say I am glad for you... because the rest of the world (non-aggressors) are suffering because of Russia. The cost of fertilizer has gone up considerably, because the Ukraine has been one of the largest suppliers of fertilizer and that is pushing up food cost and inflation.

The Fiat currencies has taken a blow and many prices on the financial markets have received a lot of crashes, since the war started. They say, "When elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers the most" ...and the rest of the world are the grass. (the people that are not part of this war)

Factually wrong. Ukraine is not one of the top suppliers of fertilizer. For both Potash and Ammonia fertilizer, Russia is among the top exporters, along with Belarus. And the current shortage for Potash fertilizer is because of sanctions imposed on Russia, which prevents the export of fertilizer from it's Baltic ports. And Ammonia fertilizer has also got more expensive, as it requires natural gas as a feedstock. The price of natural gas has gone up by manytimes when compared to the levels in 2020 and therefore many of the manufacturers have shut down their plants.

I thought I would briefly talk about the state of FIFA finances. Qatar 2022 was not well received by the fans, but it was immensely profitable for FIFA. At the end of 2022, they reported that they had $3.97 billion in reserves, and the revenues for the 2022-25 cycle was estimated at $7.6 billion (the vast majority of it coming from Qatar 2022). For the next cycle (2026-29), the FIFA revenues are projected to rise to $11 billion (with most of it coming from the FIFA world cup of 2026). This includes broadcast revenue of $4.26 billion and marketing revenue of $2.7 billion. During Qatar 2022, ticket sales alone accounted for $929 million.

3935  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: It's on! 2024 US Presidential Election Biden+Harris Vs Trump Bitcoin betting.... on: April 20, 2023, 03:23:27 AM
You don't need to worry about the odds from Biden or Kamala because chances are just a percentage of winning and not necessarily the truth.
Regarding the Covid wave, it might be very influential, especially in terms of the economy, but it seems that the Covid wave will not really be like a few years ago and if it has an effect, it might only affect economic and financial inflation.
Biden is indeed quite old with his current age which is 80 years old but he is still quite healthy so the risk is there but not too big to get to 18 months eighth.

You can't ignore COVID though. People are still dying and every now and then we are hearing about new variants and spikes. The last major variant (Omicron) had a low mortality rate compared to the Delta variant. But there is no guarantee that a new, more lethal variant will not appear all of a sudden. Anyway for POTUS 2024, a bigger risk is the poor health of Biden. He seems to be suffering from dementia, and it gets worse with age. Health condition of the candidates will definitely be one of the hot topics for the 2024 elections.
3936  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany ⚽ - Qualifiers on: April 20, 2023, 03:13:14 AM
I can't believe it how come Italy is the winner last EURO edition is not favorite for winning EURO 2024? seems crazy with this odds predicting because Italy success defeated England in final last EURO 2020 is not favorite team? however not qualify in World Cup 2022 its not comparison why Italy have bigger odds or not favorite in EURO 2024. I think beside Germany as host keep believing with magician from  Italy success back to back winning EURO.

I would agree with this argument. Italy may not be as strong as France (or even England, despite the fact that they destroyed England during the finals of Euro 2020). But there is no way Italy can be placed so much below teams like Germany. I guess a lot of people tend to ignore Italy, since they were not there in Qatar 2022. Italy has remained out of spotlight for some time. I would say that Italy is one of the favorites to win Euro Cup this time and they have a good team balance and team bonding unlike some of the other top teams in this competition.
3937  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: April 20, 2023, 03:03:25 AM
Even now the oil source is their major revenue, and the country plan to generate revenue through different sources. This is how it is possible to stand strong, even if the oil revenue gets disturbed as we can't expect things to be same as now. As said Saudi Arabia have spent big on Football and now the prime focus is upon Cricket as it holds a big fanbase from the Asian countries.

More restrictions were relaxed and the government is trying to make Western people get into the country. This is kind of plan to make people invest into their country. Rather than money it is the visibility they get through it. Even now for IPL they're (visit Saudi) is the official sponsor.

The current king (Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud) is quite intelligent and he has realized that it will be impossible for Saudi Arabia to survive on oil revenues alone in the long term. That is why he is trying to diversify the economy. And unlike Qatar, Saudi Arabia is not exactly swimming in wads of money. They do have a large population of natives to take care of. Qatar has only 300,000 citizens, while KSA as per the latest census is home to 25 million natives. That explains why Saudi Arabia is more accommodative of the outside culture when compared to Qatar. But only time will tell whether their big plans will get realized or not.

If you have gone so far then do another favour and give some figures of ICC revenue also, so we all have an idea how mighty BCCI is when compared with another boards.

ICC media rights (for 4 years, 2024-2027): $3.5 billion
IPL media rights (for 5 years, 2023-2027): $6.2 billion
WPL media rights (for 5 years, 2023-2027): $0.12 billion
Media rights for bilateral matches involving India (for 4 years, 2024-2027): Bidding process still on, winner to be declared shortly (for the last 5-year period from 2018-2023, Disney Star won the rights for $925 million. This time the amount will increase by manifold).

In short, BCCI revenues are manytimes of the ICC revenue. IPL rights itself are larger than the combined price of media rights sales from ICC and all the other national boards.
3939  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: April 20, 2023, 02:43:08 AM
It is all about the exposure to test format cricket. Playing more test matches Ireland team will improve. The team might've played around 5 test matches, in that they've performed better in few matches. Slowly they should avoid the innings loss and try to make some good runs. Maybe the players could score better if they play same as they play limited over matches. When they try to play slow they weren't able to stand wickets as well as unable to score good runs.

Well.. I don't know. They have played 5 test matches ever since they got the test status in 2019. That is 1.25 matches per year. And many of the players who participated in the first two tests are no longer playing for Ireland. From what I can see, only 4 of the players who participated in the Ireland vs England test match back in 2019 are included in the squad against Sri Lanka (James McCollum, Andy McBrine, Andy Balbirnie and Mark Adair). One of their main issues is regarding retention of players across all formats of the game.

Congratulations to the Lucknow Super Giants for winning yesterday's match. But their selection policy was baffling. Mark Wood was dropped and was replaced with Afghan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq. And before this match, Wood was the leading wicket taker for LSG, taking 11 wickets in just 4 matches. The decision to drop him was very surprising. Naveen bowled well yesterday though. He had final figures of 4-0-19-0. BTW, Marcus Stoinis and Avesh Khan were the only wicket takers for LSG as Rajasthan Royals failed to chase the target despite having enough wickets in hand.
