3921  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Stock Market took a huge dive, Cryptocurrency follows on: March 11, 2020, 05:03:49 AM
@avikz a correlation like?

I know a lot of people usually say "no relation" "coincidence" etc but it's not true. Often traditional markets and Bitcoin behave the same way. Not only during the bad periods, during the good ones too. There are so many opportunities to see it.
And why it shouldn't be? Bitcoin has more people using it as an investment that people using it for real cases, I mean BTC is traded like the traditional markets.

Stock market is based on fundamentals. Stock market is regulated. Every index is built on some certain stock indexes, like Nifty in India is built on 50 stock indexes, Nikkei in Japan is built on 225 blue-chip stock index. The calculation is more complex but this is the basic of stock market indexes. So stock markets are bound by geography. So they are more prone to the local issues rather than the global issues. Like in China, a lot of local industries and factories are shut due to COVID-19. So it's no wonder that Chinese stock market is facing a big hit. So when Chinese stock market was started to drop, bitcoin was still increasing to 10k regime, precisely during end of Feb to beginning of March. So it's highly unlikely for bitcoin to imitate the behavior of traditional stock market.

For the same reason, technical analysis that works on stock market, doesn't always works on crypto market, because crypto market serves a global audience. It's not easy to use the existing techniques to capture the human emotion of such broader geography!
3922  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PLUS Token Scam Dumps Another 13,000 BTC - Another reason for the BTC drop? on: March 10, 2020, 07:45:22 PM
Even if we consider this thing as the cause of dump in bitcoin price then what has caused the dumping of all other coins as well? Eth reached 288 few days ago and now it is back below 200 same goes for all major coins, i think this correction was necessary to move forward and also it was triggered by many other factors but halving and other events will hopefully be very positive for crypto market.

I don't know why you think the correlation is necessary to move forward but the OP makes sense! Everything moves based on a simple formula - demand supply! 13,000 BTC is a big amount and if such amount of bitcoins have flooded the market, the price is destined to go down! Simply because the supply has gone up as compared to the demand. Covid-19 has possibly affected local industries but how can it affect bitcoin market because it is not bound by any geography and Covid-19 has not yet become a global epidemic. The current market crash we are seeing, is possibly due to the huge number of selling pressure from plus token scammers!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news...
Well, bad for some, good for others.

Such is life...same as that song:

"The power of love, is a curious thing,
make a one man weep, and another man sing"

Could be perfectly translated into Trading, just change the word "love" with "market"

As of today, March 9th, 2020:
Stocks Index Dow Jones is down by $2000 (-8%)
Cryptocurrency Market cap is down by $18B (-7,8%)

What do you make of it?

Source

Indeed stock markets are bleeding around the world and crypto market is no exception. But the question is that, are they correlated? Frankly speaking, I don't see any correlation between crypto market and traditional stock market. It may just be a coincidence that both markets are facing the heat at the same time. The current drop of crypto prices may be linked to the heavy sell off from two well known scam in crypto history - Plus token and MTGox. Read below,

This news makes more sense!

3924  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does anyone pay for slandering gambling websites on Bitcointalk? on: March 10, 2020, 05:47:36 PM
In several threads in the gambling section, I noticed "Newbie" accounts that try to slander the name of the gambling website in any possible way.
Some often sounds very trustworthy - they certainly have experience.
Do you also think that competitors pays for slandering?

I would say yes! Since this gambling market is largely unregulated, the shady owners indulge themselves in such shady practice. The funny part is that, such accounts are new accounts and only created to accuse famous and well-known gambling websites. For the same reason, a lot of gambling review websites have stopped accepting public reviews because that never reflected actual state of the website. It's always better to test a website on your own and then decide! Remember, we only have a few gambling websites in cryptospace, who are legally registered entity! Majority of other websites are unregulated and run by a kid from home!
3925  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Skilled trader or bullshitter? 📈 on: March 10, 2020, 05:16:23 PM
Yes  Smiley similar to eToro, but one important difference. You do not have to move your funds to Altpocket, you can keep trading at the exchanges you prefer.

You can find traders to follow in the performance toplists and get notifications in your phone as soon as they make a trade.

Are you guys also building a copy trading in future where users will be able to follow top traders of their choice and the platform will execute trades proportionate to their investment?

I think that will be very handy for a lot of trading enthusiasts who have the money but not the expertise to try real world trading. You can check a platform called "FBS" if you want to know what exactly I am talking about.
3926  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Looking for a FIAT to Crypto payment gateway for website on: March 10, 2020, 05:10:45 PM
Is there any service for merchant, where a payment gateway provider will receive payment in credit card and then send you BTC

Thanks

Probably Bitpay can help! Get in touch with their support team to know more about their offerings. Bitpay is one of the most oldest and trusted settlement provider in this market for cryptocurrency. If you have a good volume, they may be able to offer some customized solution as well. It's better for you to get in touch with them to see if they will send your bitcoin payment instead of fiat. They are mostly used for crypto to fiat settlement for the merchants. But exception can be made I guess!
3927  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Power plant in New York set up its own Bitcoin mining farm! on: March 10, 2020, 01:47:01 PM
I would call it a smart business decision. Usualy power plants sell their unused power to other power companies or send it to the national electricity grid. Technically it is not possible to store large amount of electricity for a long ime. So using excess energy to run a bitcoin mining farm, is a smart decision which would definitely have a positive impact on its books!
3928  Economy / Economics / Re: Help of cryptocurrency in globalization. on: March 09, 2020, 07:23:18 PM
Even without the existence of crypto, globalization has long started within each country. Just the fact that international groups among countries have been formed is proof that each and every country is operating, or at least, wishes to operate in an international scale. Crypto can be one aspect to achieve/prosper in terms of globalization, but it's just a drop in terms of its level. But, in all honesty, operating in an international scale doesn't mean agreeing with a few countries objectives/purpose. In the end, globalization would prosper, but only based on how individual countries do their thing. And, if one country goes up, one country would surely go down, that kind of cycle. I mean, I'm pretty sure we all understand how hungry for power countries are right?
but globalization presume all countries move a little bit towards each other. So every country should become a little less hungry for power each day and each year. So we could meet global currency one day

I really love your confidence! But unfortunately the leaders don't think in similar line. For them, power is more important than anything else! For example, you look at Russia, India, China and US. All of these countries are rules by such leaders who believe in achieving supremacy even at the cost of human lives. So there's no way, they will become less hungry, at least in our lifetime!

Bitcoin is just a currency system controlled by none. It doesn't have to power to bring all nations under one umbrella!
3929  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What to do due to the huge market collapse of the Bitcoin? on: March 09, 2020, 03:41:20 PM
It's highly unlikely for Corona Virus to affect bitcoin's price. Bitcoin is not limited by an geographical border so the way local industries have impacted due to Coronavirus, the same impact can't be seen on bitcoin.

It seems, the current drop is linked with a $120 million sell of from scam proceedings. Read below,

https://www.coindesk.com/bitcoins-sharp-price-drop-may-have-been-prompted-by-100m-scam-selloff

It makes more sense than Coronavirus news!
3930  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Amid Growing Covid-19 Concerns Is Bitcoin a Safe Haven for US Stock Traders? on: March 09, 2020, 01:35:42 PM
With  Covid-19 spreading at exponential rates it is having a major impact on the stock markets and there are growing fears amongst US stock traders. While the US stock market seems to be in a free fall Bitcoin has been on the rise, which accounting to this article, is making it a safe haven for US Stock Traders: https://coins.newbium.com/post/30029-bitcoin-is-a-safe-haven-for-us-stock-traders-amid

With no end in sight, Covid-19 may very well trigger the next global recession but do you think Bitcoin could play a role in rescuing the situation?

Bitcoin is on the rise?? - Have you checked the market since today morning?

The free fall of bitcoin market shows that it can't become a safe heaven. When we try to find a safe heaven, we look for stable price. And looking at bitcoin right at this moment, it doesn't look worthy of becoming a safe heaven.

3932  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Not an article about Bitcoin: "I accidentally sent £1,000 to the wrong account" on: March 09, 2020, 04:35:34 AM
In banking system, you still have something called "banking ombudsman" where you can complain about it. There are legal ways that can be undertaken in order to receive the money back. You can also visit the consumer court to correct this mistake! So in banking system, you still have certain hope that this money can be recovered.

In bitcoin, you can't go to anyone if you make such mistake. Once it is gone, it's gone permanently. You can check in blockchain if this money is being spent or not, but you can't do anything!
3933  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: TYGA coin starting a complete free airdrop deflation experiment. on: March 08, 2020, 05:29:54 PM
Quote
Tyga is a coin designed with smart contracts to deflate 2% after a transaction

And how exactly it would happen? Can you please explain?

Quote
95% of coins will be airdropped in our airdrop and bounty programs.

How do you ensure that people will not be selling those off immediately after receiving it? Also how would you ensure that people will actually buy it through exchanges? That's a practical challenge that every new altcoin faces!
3934  Economy / Economics / Re: corona Vírus doesn't affect bitcoin price on: March 08, 2020, 04:40:12 PM
All over the world we can stocks near 12% down since the end of January,  when  Corona virus showed up.

Bitcoin was neat 10k, and we still didnt lose 9k.

Btc is doing extremely well. it is not skyrocketing like gold but we are holding strong.

Corona Virus actually affected local industries. A large number of factories have been closed down due to this new epidemic which directly affected the stock markets, especially in China! But bitcoin is not dependent on a single country or a region, It is truly global in all literal sense. So bitcoin was not affected by it. But I am still finding a way to explain today's price crash!

Quote
I am impressed and we can see that bitcoin price is not correlated with stock market.

Is it something that you realized now?
3935  Local / India / Re: Banking sector is collapsing? RBI to file review petition on: March 08, 2020, 04:15:51 PM
With Yes Bank's crisis and PMC's collapse, is the banking sector collapsing now? Just a day back, RBI lost its case but now it seems that the banks only are failing to perform giving out bad loans.

Banking sector is not collapsing in any way! Yes Bank and PMC Bank are just classic examples of fraud by the management. Both of these banks have given out loans to questionable companies where they didn't have the capability to repay that loan. Ex CEO of ICICI Bank is also charged with same type of fraud. It's a result of a malpractice and certainly doesn't show the actual banking scenario.

Quote
Saving money in bitcoins is better but which bank to trust when converting BTC to INR? SBI may not accept deposits and other nationalized banks also may give trouble so private sector banks were looking good but now I am fearing that with Yes Bank failing, other banks also may fail  Sad

Government says all banks are insured for up to 5 lacs but what about the rest of the money in the banks?

I personally don't think that bitcoin has matured enough to be called as a "hedge asset". Gold and property works best in such situations.

Quote

That is a big pain point. I knew RBI wouldn't let it go so easily! They will file a review petition and try to take this legalities even further so that a blanket ban can be achieved. I am sure, even government lobby will be backing them up. Let's see how it unfolds!
3936  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin in Frances as of this year. on: March 08, 2020, 12:10:11 PM
So the list of positives is only growing bigger in 2020.

1. Australian court accepted cryptos as security for legal costs for an ongoing case. (https://news.bitcoin.com/court-accepts-crypto-as-security/)
2. India lifts ban on crypto trading (https://thenextweb.com/hardfork/2020/03/04/indias-apex-court-lifts-the-ban-on-cryptocurrency-trading/)
3. South Korean parliament legalized bitcoin trading (https://cryptobriefing.com/south-korean-parliament-legalizes-bitcoin-trading/)

All of these above news came within 2 weeks of time frame. Seems like 2020 will take us to a new height!
3937  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do On-chain Activities Suggest Bitcoin Volatility Will Continue? on: March 05, 2020, 06:24:34 PM
The short answer to this is yes, but we all know that the short answer never does Bitcoin any justice. So what is the long answer you may ask? Well, there is no one long answer, but there are a couple of indicators and factors that may hold the answer.

One of the factors that play a role in volatility is the activity of Crypto Whales and here is how: https://www.tap.global/on-chain-activities-suggests-bitcoin-volatility-will-continue

Do you think Crypto Whales play a significant role in Bitcoin price volatility?

Since when bitcoin didn't have volatile price? Bitcoin's volatility is the only parameter that makes it a great trading and speculating asset. If bitcoin's price was not volatile, no one would have used it as a trading asset. We use it as a trading asset because bitcoin's price is volatile and we try to ride that volatility to make profit for ourselves!

Regarding crypto whale manipulation, we also need to understand that they are traders like us, who wants to ride the same volatility to make money out of it. The buy it when the price is low and sell it when the price is high. It's the same logic that we all apply while trading. The only difference is that, whales have deep pocket and we don't!
3938  Economy / Economics / Re: Blockchain enterprise adoption will grow in 2020 on: March 05, 2020, 03:53:02 PM
It's true that blockchain adoption is growing at the enterprise level and it will continue to grow in the coming years as well. Even though cryptos are not getting benefited out of it, but as a backbone technology of cryptos, such kind of adoptions certainly give a confidence boost to the crypto community.

Well, blockchain adoption doesn't always mean Bitcoin adoption. Most of the forum members and Bitcoin Core supporters want Bitcoin adoption.I don't care about blockchain adoption if it doesn't include Bitcoin.
Most of these news will remain just news. The actual implementation of blockchain technology will take years and the benefits of such implementation are yet to be discovered. And yeah,Coca Cola really sucks. Grin

Some what true! But who knows, it may happen that if people understand the benefits of using blockchain, they may want to know more about cryptos! It is very much possible because bitcoin is the first successful use case of blockchain. Fingers croosed!
3939  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Another good news this week, Bitcoin Trading is now Legalised in South Korea. on: March 05, 2020, 02:27:04 PM
I will say this is big move especially for India. Population of India isn't small and lots of people involved with cryptocurrency. From very long time it was hang decision about bitcoin legalization. Most likely we are seeing current  bitcoin price move for both countries decision's. Honestly they realized important of blockchain technology besides of bitcoin. Some more countries should learn from them especially those had banned bitcoin. Let's see if more countries become encourage for bitcoin legalization before halving, so we would see a big move for bitcoin.

Indeed! These 3 big news have probably acted as a stimulus to push the market past 9k level. It's definitely a big news for India because of its huge population and an old estimate says that around 5 million people are engaged with cryptocurrency in India. After the lift of the ban, we expect more people to join the bandwagon which will surely make the global crypto community stronger. Let's hope for the best!
3940  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple's Investment in MoneyGram on: March 05, 2020, 06:14:42 AM
From day 1, Ripple's attitude is very different than other crypto companies. Ripple is trying to capture the legal and centralized money transmission businesses around the world. If you look at their list of partners, they have got banks in their kitty who uses Ripple's network to transmit money worldwide at a fraction of cost they used to spend earlier. So it is a win-win situation for all. Banks are saving cost and Ripple is getting used!

Their 15% acquisition in Moneygram is a part of their bigger plan to get a big chunk of share in the worldwide money transmission business. It's sad that the acquisition doesn't look good in their books. But at the end of the day, they will have to do something with the free money they release from escrow from time to time. Only the Ripple investors are facing this heat!
