3921  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: No ROI on future Mining, its a FACT! on: January 26, 2014, 06:43:49 PM
Some buy it for fun.

Exactly. Or to do a small altruistic contribution towards support of the network, fully aware that it will not give a positive ROI.

Everyone should stop mining. And buy bitcoins instead.  Smiley

In theory that would mean that the network will collapse, but it won't. See below.

Asics are about to make them selfs extinct, you have been warned

No, it's a self balancing system. Give it time to balance on the edge of profitability.

In conclusion if you plan to buy a miner for any other reason, than revenue, then go ahead with complete disregard to profitability calculators as they are not relevant with your altruistic goal in mind; otherwise, just buy BTC.

Don't know if I should expect a further dip, but I grabbed a few coins at this price point (~780), just to be on the safe side...
3923  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 22, 2014, 05:40:20 PM
faetos..anotherhost is just co-location service, not a full service like KNc hosting. What if you need a new part? they are only open 8-5 like a bank. Perhaps this is not correct info, but that's what I got on their website. In addition, since they ask for 1BTC deposit and say that it is essentially first month, cost would be ~$800/mo in my calc since electricity is 27c/kw in sweden.
BTW, did you really refunded all your Neptune preorders. I have two, and was thinking doing the same for at least one.

Um, not really. From their site:

Quote
We have decided to move away from accepting a refundable deposit to instead accepting an upfront payment that will be discounted from your first monthly bill/bills. As we are unsure of the power consumption we can't give a final price, as soon as we have the correct specification we will give you a monthly price.
3924  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Which USB hub to use with Block Erupters | NanoFury NF1 | BPMC Red Fury | Ant U1 on: January 21, 2014, 05:24:39 PM
I've updated the OP with the link and additional info for the 19-porter from Dipo Electronic, sold there through the forums: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=418087.msg4538611#msg4538611

Will post review once I get the unit and a batch of U1 AntMiners. I am going to test it with a mix of three different USB miners, as well as it being hosted by RPi.

Btw, could the wallet mining be implemented such that the worker threads would get a low priority? That way the computer will still remain usable, but they will still use all available cpu when computer is idle.

May I suggest you use an external mining application (which is more efficient anyway) together with my front-end, Crypto Miners in Tray https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=149442.0 where you can specify priority and CPU affinity for the controlled application.
3926  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Which USB hub to use with Block Erupters | NanoFury NF1 | BPMC Red Fury? A List. on: January 19, 2014, 06:33:48 PM
Shouldn't they all conform to the USB 2.0 standard of 5V @ 0.5A or is U1 an exception?
3927  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 14, 2014, 03:35:38 PM
Guys, where are my cheap coins ?  Huh Huh Huh Huh

This question has been asked multiple times before: during my time around here at ~$35, then ~$60, then at ~$150, then at ~$210.
The answer was always: "Now".
3928  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 10, 2014, 10:46:30 PM
What the heck?Huh Is this a weekend rise now?

 Grin

This time I am ready for both!  Tongue

Just out of sheer curiosity: When is the deadline for the Chinese to evacuate their funds from BTC? I remember it was going to be really soon...
3930  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 06, 2014, 08:24:31 PM
3 times before did I buy into staring rallies, only for them to reverse and me panic-selling and losing some money. This time (Friday) I decided not to buy-in, and my collection of regrets acquired a new exhibit of almost $10000 not made, fiat which could have later been used to increase my BTC stash. I am still holding my position from 12 days ago, testing my steadfastness. I almost panic-bought at 950, but managed to reign in the emotions. Still curious as to where it will lead me... Will I eventually join the herd..?
3931  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 06, 2014, 01:33:18 PM
I know that this might draw a number of derisive replies, but has anyone considered that we might actually be in the final and most pronounced dead cat bounce?
3932  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 06, 2014, 09:22:49 AM
One of Risto's best advice when new money come into exchange here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=345065.0 is

It is important to buy in as soon as possible
I burnt by not buying at 750 on Friday, even though I got fresh funds cleared on Stamp by then. I was influenced by my prior bad trade, hoping for a week-end dip.
Note to self: always keep fresh money decisions for holding emotionally separated from trading decisions.
3933  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 05, 2014, 08:07:47 PM
Have a $19k on Stamp, waiting for a crash, missed the $440 2 weeks ago... Waiting for low prices  Cry

You can forget about 440. Aim for around 850-750, if you are going to wait. 650 might be an absolute extreme low.
But beware - the sentiment and news indicate a continued growth in the days to come, especially after the fresh funds reach exchanges around Tuesday...
3934  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 05, 2014, 07:44:54 PM
Ok, I admit it. Waiting over the week-end was one of my many worst decisions. The dip from 750 to 960 is spectacular to watch... from the sidelines... while still sitting in fiat... Stupid fiat.  Cry

I am this close ->| |<- from just saying to hell with it, and buying back in...
3935  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 03, 2014, 02:16:53 PM
I've heard that before. I've burnt on that before as well.

I'll soon see if my experience of the past half-a-year re price fluctuations will pay off, or if I am going to buy back in at an even bigger loss. If so, then my final goal will be even more difficult to achieve.

What is your final goal?

300

EDIT: That said, there is no such thing as "too many bitcoins" Cheesy

This is the time to panic buy!! $1435 before sunday, you heard it here first!  Cheesy

Please do. The faster it rises, the harder it falls. Wink

Om nom nom, sweet bear tears!  Cheesy Cheesy

Oh, but as I stated yesterday evening, I am a butthurt bull, not wishing to get slaughtered yet again in another bull trap, like it happened to me on oh too many occasions, so I am trying to exercise those wonderful virtues of patience and restraint, while keeping a close eye on my level of greed.  Tongue

You can call me a bull, who got separated from the herd....

Be fearful when others become greedy.
Be fearful when you become greedy is also a good one!

+1
Burnt myself on that a few times. For my part, I am freezing all trading until next week, which will show if I am completely behind the train.

From my prior experience, I've done too much chasing after rallies, which resulted in bigger losses than if i just held my positions. So this time, it is holding time, though, alas, in fiat.
3940  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 02, 2014, 08:53:32 PM
Is there such a thing as a butthurt bull in a bull market? I think I am one of those. I am long term bullish. I know that Bitcoin will go up, way up. I know that  I need more BTC. I have fiat ready. Yet, I still can't buy back in now, after that sell a couple of weeks ago, when 580 looked like the top of a dead cat bounce...  Undecided

GAAAAAAAA........

You went full fiat?

Yes, full fiat with my trading allotment. The sad thing, I thought I was being clever, having placed a number of limit orders, selling gradually on the way up, and it did look like 580 was going to be a top, but then everything went horribly wrong.
