3921  Other / Off-topic / Re: I am from the future. Pump is coming. 🚀 on: March 20, 2019, 10:18:28 PM
I managed to make a time traveling machine using a Tesla X, quantum computer with 128 top end gpu’s, George Forman grill and my wife’s tanning bed, Also other items I won’t mention due to unsafety and just being tested by myself. I dialed in at April 12, 2019 just for testing purposes. Bitcoin is now 8,000$ and keeps growing. Talks about adding it to Nasdaq are happening as I speak. Donald Trump and Putin selling all gold in the reserves and moving it to bitcoins. Will now dial in at April 12, 2099, wish me luck. If I don’t respond it means I am probably dead or computers are now obsolete.

Everytime you travel to the past and change something (such as announcing this) you fork the timeline. The future you came from will probably be no more should you decide to remain in this new timeline tampered by your "little" comment. It is the butterfly effect...

3922  Other / Off-topic / Re: How many of you use reddit? on: March 20, 2019, 10:13:52 PM
I actually use it sometimes, but not much, only on specific topics of my interest of course. If i started reading from the main page it would never end, like facebook etc. I like the classic forum approach more anyway.
3923  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: List for people who want to start paying with BTC on: March 20, 2019, 10:05:04 PM
Newegg should be listed as primarily for North America IMO- though there are options to ship internationally on the site, these options are pretty limited at the moment (link to countries Newegg ships to). Also note you are only able to purchase from Newegg themselves on the site and you cannot buy items from third-parties with cryptocurrency at this moment.

I live in the USA and I've never had problems with the site otherwise, free shipping from them is via USPS Parcel Select usually and can be a bit slow but things are otherwise reasonable with pricing. I've used them for over $1000 in purchases over the last year, never had any major problems and the site support's very quick to solve any problems you might have.

Around 10 years ago they didn't accept any foreign credit cards (not even shipping to an USA address). i'm not sure what would they do if they take bitcoin, maybe some KYC procedure and then deny it solely on your country of origin?
3924  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What are the current best mining containers? on: March 20, 2019, 09:57:35 PM
I don't know if they still do it but Bitmain themselves used to offer one.

ANTBOX: Movable Mining, One Step Faster

There is also a multitude of options with various designs from several sources.

3925  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Warning! FakeMail from Bitmain --> Antminer S17-2 on: March 20, 2019, 09:40:11 PM
a short warning from a mail scam in name of Bitmaintech.
She sell a Antminer S17-2 :-) and someone has sent the first coins :-(

Yes, we were talking about it in the kano pool thread, and i laughed at the "specifications" of this fake unit.
3926  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you feel about control versus freedom in Bitcoin? on: March 20, 2019, 09:32:39 PM
Take two.  Leaving the personalities out of it this time and focusing purely on the arguments.  I should also stress that leaving that one specific personality out of this topic means I would prefer they kept it civil too.  I want to hear opinions from the community about the following:
  • Do you think freedom is one of Bitcoin's most important qualities?  Or is it more important that we ensure everyone is happy and agrees with any changes?  If you had to choose, which takes priority?  Freedom?  Or ensuring everyone agrees?
  • Do you think "consensus" should always mean a hardfork at 95% agreement?  Even if that means that just 6% of the network can then effectively veto any changes and stagnate progress?  Or are softforks perfectly acceptable as well?  How do you feel about users who express the belief that softforks effectively turn them into second-class-citizens if they don't want to to upgrade?  Do they have cause to complain?  Or is the fact that they can remain on this blockchain and continue transacting as they always have done a sufficient compromise?  Is it right for some users to move forward with a change if others haven't given their permission for that change?  Does this weaken or bypass consensus?
  • Is it wrong or immoral to create code that causes a client to disconnect another client from the network if the features they propose are not compatible?  Should users be allowed to disconnect incompatible clients if they want to?  Or is this a way to cheat consensus and deprive the users running that client of the chance to express their support for a change in the rules?  And, in this morality judgement, should we consider whether replay protection is included in the the client being disconnected if that means users can be safeguarded from replay attacks?
  • If you run a full node, are you fully aware of what rules it enforces?  Do you keep up to date with the latest changes?  Do you compile the code yourself so you know exactly what is going on?  Or do you blindly update your node without checking what the code actually does?
  • Most important of all, does anyone genuinely believe Core are "in control" of the Bitcoin network?  Or do you think those securing the chain (both non-mining full nodes and miners) are ultimately the ones who make the decisions?  Do you think some developers have too much influence?  Should there be a larger number of dev teams?  Does Bitcoin have a level playing field?
While I'm curious on all these points, I'm not honestly expecting answers to every single last one of them.  Just express what you feel confident about.
  • Freedom of course.
  • Hmm well the way its been handled so far has worked, we have Segwit and LN now.
  • You cannot do much about that, people can also ban specific IPs because they don't like their behavior.
  • "In Core We Trust", until the market says otherwise.
  • Most miners agree with core anyway, and those who tried their own way have forked and gone without much success, proving the point.
3927  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ‘Bitcoin Is Not Money’ Because We Cannot Print It – Banks on: March 20, 2019, 09:23:42 PM
‘Bitcoin Is Not Money’ Because We Cannot Print It – Banks

And yet another other attack, but seriously flaw argument coming from banks. But that's fine, hearing this kind of arguments make me think that they are really threaten by crypto and afraid that one day all of them will become obsolete, or least majority of people will go to crypto, specially bitcoin.

Actually, its an excellent argument in favor of Bitcoin. Of course you can't print it, that's the whole point... Inflation is no more.
Now we are challenging that school of economy that states inflation is needed, or fractional reserve banking, or debt, to grow an economy...

I read where Bitmain as announced the Antminer S17 Pro with no details... That would explain the scam email I got this morning from the email address presale at bitmainstech.com (notice the s in the middle) with the subject "limited non Public Preorder - S17-2".  Watch out folks!  This is a complete scam!

I have seen these type of emails before with a PDF attachment order form complete with Scan QR-Codes claiming the following specs:

Code:
Antminer S17-2 with Power
adapter included
2x BM1397 chip (33.7J/TH)
Hash Rate: 67.4TH +-5%
Power Consumption: 1394w using Bitmain APW7 1800W
Dimensions: 240mm(L) x 187mm(W) x 288mm(H)
Weight: 7.1g
Network Connection: Ethernet

$1299USD with Free DHL Shipping

I havent gotten one yet about the s17 but I have about other ones in the past - I always check their site directly. But good for you to point out for those who are less diligent.

I guess the scammer should learn the lesson about putting free DHL shipping in there... I wonder what the dash two means, second batch? Lol... But then again there is also the "Pro" word. Pure garbage. I almost neglect emails at this point.

Ah yes, the APW7.... Scammer hasn't updated himself with the advent of the S11 and the S15, the days of the wonderful APW7 are over since they now bundle a custom PSU together embedded to the miner.

Can't those scammers even do a proper research? Oh and those dimensions... But hey, its got 2 BM1397 chips! LOL.
3929  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Braiins OS: open-source mining firmware [S9, T1]. New release includes AsicBoost on: March 19, 2019, 10:50:24 PM
Does anyone know the roadmap for incorporating M10 support? My M10 has been an excellent machine for me, but I would like to have a little more control over some of its settings and Whatsminer's firmware doesn't allow too much flexibility.

thanks

I don't know anything about a roadmap, but for the time being they are unsupported. They mentioned a "full rewrite" at some point where they will add support for more miners.

So far only the Dragonmint T1 and the Antminer S9 are supported.
3930  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Finally setting up a full node on: March 19, 2019, 02:44:31 AM
I just rebuilt my Linux node machine recently. A full DL of the blockchain took a full week.  Fortunately storage is so cheep that I was able to go with a 3 Terabyte HD. That should hold me for a few years. I like having a dedicated machine like this. I usually shop on a different computer and spend from my node for additional privacy.

Thanks for contributing to the network's strength and resilience!

My node finally finished syncing yesterday, i started syncing at the end of December, syncing mostly at nighttime. Now that is synced it doesn't bother much to leave it running; but during syncing the I/O access to the harddrive was insane. I still run bitcoind it with ionice -c3 just in case...
3931  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Pangolin Whatsminer M10 - 33TH at 2145W on: March 19, 2019, 02:25:47 AM
They did offer both for the youtube videos.  I can pay for the two.  And since we will be needing at least 20 units  I don't mind doing a teardown.

Ask them about them about the M20S now that we know about it via whatsminer.
3932  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto ATM robed. on: March 19, 2019, 02:19:23 AM
Like bank ATMs, bitcoin ATM was robbed in mechanical manner. These people couldn't reach coins that are bought before via this ATM by people.  There is no need to worry about the technology of bitcoin ATMs.

So if they steal the whole thing, force the vault open without damaging the computer, they could use a single banknote endlessly, or, they could leave it intact and spend and actual fortune and when the vault is full smash it open to recover their fiat. Hmm or why bother stealing it, all they need is trespass to perform the operation right there.

Yes i can see more low tech attacks coming, now that bitcoin is becoming "mainstream", even the thieves will want a piece of the pie...
3933  Other / Off-topic / Re: what are the chances of the Third World War? on: March 19, 2019, 02:07:25 AM
I don't think there will be any more "World Wars", just the usual localized conflict from time to time from a power vs smaller group.

Currently the major military powers are USA/EU and China/Russia, the latter seem content doing trading with the rest of the world than wage wars beyond diplomacy and money lending business.

And they are not attacking each other, despite their rhetoric from time to time.

The last time a WW3 could have come was when there was a Soviet Union and there were people still believing in the fallacy of "real socialism".
3934  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Save your crypto, Disable WPS! on: March 19, 2019, 01:45:18 AM
Device manufacturers need to pay more attention to security. Before the current digital wave, where people store assets on mobile devices and PC, phones were not primarily used to store important information, and much attention was not placed on security, passwords and unauthorized access.
Good post, I would look up WPS, and how it works.

Well this is more about wifi than smartphones, and you can have wifi without any smartphones around.

When WPA came around they were tightening security, but then they tried to cave for the people who is "too lazy to remember a password", perhaps the typical engineer vs marketing/boss situation.

WPS is a serious security flaw and should never be used under any circumstance, same as WEP.
3935  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Whatsminer M20 is announced and available for pre-order on: March 19, 2019, 01:30:01 AM
Do you think this M20S is like the M10S enlarged 140mm size?

At least Whatsminer has proper unit naming, unlike Pangolin's "everything is an M20".
3936  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Transaction problem (Beginner) on: March 19, 2019, 12:09:27 AM
I recently bought Bitcoin from an ATM. I tendered a $100 bill and got bitcoin worth $87.

13 USD for the ATM fee? I definitively wouldn't use an ATM when its so much simpler and cheaper to do it online. I guess that's the price for privacy? But the ATMs should be protected, and video camera covered...
3937  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Pangolin Whatsminer M10 - 33TH at 2145W on: March 17, 2019, 11:07:01 AM
I contacted Pangolin and I may be able to get a demo for a you tube video.

Aprilish has been mentioned.

So based on the m10   it was available 30 days after Hagss  did the nice write up and I did the youtube video.

So may15?  just guessing.

I may get both models for the videos.

less hashpower more efficient
https://pangolinminer.com/product/whatsminer-m20-with-psu-48t/

more hashpower  less efficient
https://pangolinminer.com/product/whatsminer-m20-with-psu-engineering-unit-58th-s-shipout-before-may-15/

Their support on telegram is very good.

If you have to choose, i would go for the 48t. Having both would be interesting. Do you plan to disassemble and take pictures of everything, even the insides or the PSU, controller etc? Those are the most valuable reviews in my opinion, and of course the usual noise and power consumption tests Smiley
3938  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Sent Litecoin to Bitcoin Address, How to recover? on: March 17, 2019, 10:59:28 AM
Guys, come on!!! Stop giving me hard time. I Understand the software is at fault and there should be check before sending cryptos, but i use general bytes machines. The largest company in the world with over 2000 installs. I am requesting them to look into this and perhaps they can fix the software.

Another things i am doing it, starting to offer more than 2 crypto, that will help tremendously. See, right now what happens i there is Bitcoin and Litecoin and customer Must press the icon of coin they wish to buy and these icons are next to each other, so they accidentely push Litecoin when they want to by Bitcoin.

If i started offering Bitcoin, Ethereum, Monero, Dash & Litecoin. I can arrange icons where bitcoin is on the extreme left and Litecoin is on the extreme right, so chances of that accident are a lot less.

Transactions that are under $50, i simply send them bitcoin and take the loss as a company but we have had couple of $1000 transactions and thats where i feel bad.

Well as their customer you should really complain to them (General Bytes).

Here is an example from the exchange Poloniex:

So its not like you are the only one, people have suffered from this since the first fork (Litecoin) appeared.

In the meantime, you could also place a sticker warning people about this, at least its better than nothing:

  • Do not send litecoin to a Bitcoin address, do not send bitcoin to a Litecoin address, You will lose your coins!
  • A Bitcoin address can be recognized because it starts with 1, 3 or bc1 (if your ATM supports bech32, else omit bc1).
  • A Litecoin address can be recognized because it starts with L (Don't bother with the ancient 3, no one should be using those).

And so on with the rest of the coins... They all have their distinctive addresses.

You could design a pretty infographic using the coin logos for your sticker, perhaps something resembling bitcoin and litecoin don't mix.

Ie: "BTC to LTC address or LTC to BTC address = your coins are lost. Double check you are sending bitcoin to a bitcoin address ONLY, or litecoin to a litecoin address ONLY. We cannot be held responsible for coins sent to the wrong address (they are destroyed)." or such, be creative; but really complain to General Bytes or seek an alternative. Being "the largest" doesn't mean being "the best". See Mt.Gox in 2012~2013...
3939  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Whatsminer M20 is announced and available for pre-order on: March 17, 2019, 01:38:47 AM
So this is MicroBT's next generation Asic, 12nm chips? How would they compare against Bitmain's S17/T17?

I don't particularly like how they named two different products the same, Why isn't one the M20 and the other M21, or say. M20X vs M20?

It is clear that the 48T one is more efficient. You pay 50 USD more to spend more energy per hash?

Or could this be the exact same hardware with slightly different firmware tweaks? I don't understand this marketing, but i welcome the saner model, competition is good for everyone.

Now whats next for MicroBT: 10nm? 7nm?
3940  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Reinstalled Electrum to update it now wallet file is gone and I lost the seed on: March 17, 2019, 01:28:30 AM
Hi,
I really need help : I know my passwort but forgot my seed ! Because Electrum demandet an update I reinstalled it -> this deleted or override my old "default_wallet"
Is there anyway to recover the wallet file so I can accsess it with my passwort.
If I cant accsess my wallet I'm really fked. Sorry if the answer is obvious but I'm really a noob with Bitcoin.
Thank u in advance !!

And never forget, the seed words are more important than the password. Keep those seed words in a piece of paper written by hand in a secure place next time. Yes you can forget the password, it doesn't matter, but not the seed words.

Good luck trying to recover that wallet, its not impossible if you had it backed up. If you do, move the coins to a new wallet and this time keep those seed words safe.
