39341  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: 2 AVA4.1s Won! [2700 TH] CKPool (kano.is) from the cgminer devs [0.9% PPLNS] on: February 08, 2015, 12:52:14 PM
This pool had amazing luck. Since understanding how luck works much better after this thread, I'll say the luck was great and I look forward to saying such again in the future, but no matter how hard I wish upon a star I cannot predict it  Smiley

Simple n00b question for you guys.
What is the best way to determine a price for your miner when renting?

I read many threads discussing setting the price, and I have not seen a post by someone who said 'use this formula' or 'this website does it like this'. I understand the power usage amount, the estimated amount say 1 TH mines per day, and how it correlates to difficulty.

Is there a more dynamic method with other variables?
I don't mean a calculator to know how much 1 TH will mine, but a calculator which uses that as a variable, the power as a variable, even maintenance, downtime, Bitcoin difficulty, even pool difficulty.

Maybe I am going to far for my initial question, but any input is appreciated. TY!!

I am going to link you to another pool https://www.f2pool.com/help

it shows its payout rate  per th     right now it is 0.0116977 btc a th daily    this is the current rate - 4%    …….  if you are renting your gear you want 25% more for your gear.

If you want to rent gear  you want to pay exactly number give or take 5%.  quick easy to know.
39342  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: New diff thread Jan 27th to Feb 11 (-5.73%) to (+0.09%) on: February 08, 2015, 12:35:51 PM
willing to share my winnings if someone willing to unplug 40 ph/s for a couple days. kthxbai

We had a decreasing difficulty last time and now we will just return to the last difficulty.

close enough to true. btw if we see-saw for a few months time up and down 5% with stable btc at 225 or so it does not kill my setup price wise.

Last adjustment 4  days over 144  10 under

note blocks made on feb 3  nice drop.

back up on the 4th

You can't quite chart perfectly with the above since the 27th is straddling both diff numbers

but 1233 blocks were done in 8 days    'normal' is 8 x 144 = 1152   so we are up   7.03%   like I said we are missing part of Jan 27th and

today feb 5

on Jan 27th we made 145 blocks    I do not remember the exact time we switched difficulty but if you include all of Jan 27

we go to 1378 blocks in 9 days   normal is 9 x 144 = 1296  so we are up  6.32%

And 1 more big one 159

means 1537 in 10 days this is around 6.73% if you count Jan 27th

and the biggest number in a few weeks 171

this is 1708 block in 11 days = 155.27 blocks a day or (+7.82%).

   What does it mean?
I would think  a big boy like KNC  or Bitfury is bringing a plant on line.  Others may want to say variance but not this time.

[/quote]  feb 7th was 162

that is 1870 in 12 days = 155.833 or (+ 8.21%)

39344  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [GUIDE] Strato's Antminer S5 Vertical Mounting Setup Guide - OC with Less Heat on: February 08, 2015, 04:10:47 AM
yes, painters tape is good too

why i said to raise it, is because the fan is really obstructed the way you have it now.
the difference in temp from floor to 10inches above floor is almost none, but a good airflow is best!

I will attempt to raise it later you may be correct about the  fan blockage.

The tape seems to be helping.

this is a new number with window closed. very good hashrate but early.

Philip,

Have you found that on your test miners that there are Frequencies that work at higher points rather than lower?  Example - I have most of my miners at 392.75 - some at 400. Some got x's at 400.  Is there reason to think maybe that a miner that x's out at 400 - might actually work at 412?

Cheers,

Strato

The two I had both can do freq 412. but cold rooms and lots of fans are important.

As for good freq vs shit freq.  I have found that 275 was not good and 318.75 was bad.

The key for overclock  is look at the  HW as long as they are under 0.05 good rates show up.  for me 412 is very good 425 errors got high 0.088 and has was lower at 425 then 412.

You need to wait at least two hours to see:

 the rates settle
the errors settle
the temps settle

when you get over 375 freq .

Also the pool you are using can affect hw's.

I built a 1 dollar 4 sided should using a cardboard box and duct tape .  not sureif it helps will continue to test.

Hi. Thanks for the flowers  Smiley

I didn't want to injure the outside skin. Also water-proof silencers are much more expensive.
It would be nice to suck in the air from the top, but also rain comes that way so I abandoned that idea  Wink

yeah you built a really nice piece of gear. It is too costly  because buying 114 s-5's or 114 sp20's don't put you ahead of the curve due to the terrible price of BTC.

If I could get this miner

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=944406.0

It would work.  this miner does not exist .  putting 114 s-5's or sp20 in  that crate  won't pay off.

Now if I had cheap power yeah maybe.

I do like the build.

Difficulty is a joke right now with the recent price slump, where's all the hash power coming from and how are they affording to operate?

well if it is not   variance and it is hash, then  it is a major company using  'special' gear

   Say bitfury adding 30-50 ph.

In theory  they  should be building a major plant in the north of Finland or maybe Iceland.
39348  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Electrical questions on: February 07, 2015, 07:39:32 PM
Sure Smiley but what I calculated... I have to buy psu's for the sp20's and to have the same power than a sp35 , it would cost me pretty much more than buying sp35's and I would need approximately 3 sp20's to equal one sp35. So more outlets and space..:/ anyways I guess it won't cost a fortune to modify stuff... And I guess to be on the safe side it would be only one machine per outlet. I will get in touch with my electrician soon and give some feedback here if anyone needs help on approximate prices for parts etc...

3x sp20's = 1195

http://www.spondoolies-tech.com/products/sp20-nano-farm-batch-1

1x sp35 = 2235

http://www.spondoolies-tech.com/products/sp35-yukon-power-shipping-from-stock

  3 evga 1300 g2 's = 510

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438011&cm_re=evga_1300_g2-_-17-438-011-_-Product

so 1195 + 510 = 1705

vs    2235

3 sp20's run easy    3600 gh
they can clock to 4500gh

they sell easier on ebay.
39349  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: New diff thread Jan 27th to Feb 11 (-5.73%) to (+0.09%) on: February 07, 2015, 05:53:09 PM
It's gonna be tough all round with BTC holding in the low $200's and diff looking like it's going up again  Sad

Its even tougher for ppl holding their miners hoping to get ROI.

Phillipma's opinion does not count because he got "free" electricity with his rent. I feel bad for ppl who just bought some miners tho....

however, it is a good time to get *some* used gear at good prices. I pay $0.09 USD for nighttime and $0.13 in the daytime/peak, so am still somewhat competitive.

and im hoping to move into ~$70/kw/month colocation very soon

Yeah I am hoping to share part of a location in Wash DC.  I would drive 8sp20's to it.  Pay a piece of the power and mine.

 Keep
1 s-5
1 avalon4
1 sp20 in house
39350  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [REVIEW] AVALON 4 1000GH/s@694W on: February 07, 2015, 04:50:33 PM
I am too lazy to find the photos I took with the same gear running and the two meters.  but somewhere. I posted I have a high meter and a low one.  In fact I ordered a third meter  to test and run a thread showing that the kwatts are only so good.

It comes on thursday .

I think I will run a  short thread about it.

Next time get a meter with a NIST calibration certificate and better accuracy / repetability Smiley it helps keeping the number or meters low ..

I got the second kwatt so I now have 3 meters

one of these

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E945SJG/ref=sr_ph?ie=UTF8&qid=1423327571&sr=1&keywords=watt+meter

two of these

http://www.amazon.com/P3-P4400-Electricity-Usage-Monitor/dp/B00009MDBU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1423327601&sr=8-1&keywords=watt+meter

the tsa model reads 720 and both p4400 meters read 692 on a s-5 using the evga 1300 g2 and overclocked to freq 412

that is a big difference problem is I am not sure which one to believe.
I am burning about 6 kwatts so if the higher reading is real I would be burning 6250 or so kwatts .

Back to my review I got tracking for the avalon 4 it is due to arrive  on  monday.

yeah The ddos attacks come when we get over 60%  cdf more often then when we are low cdf like 20%.  I guess they figure the miners are more invested now after buying hash or hashing for a week and no payout.

scotch tape all the bottom from side to side. scotch tape as much as possible the top of the unit!

Philip, u need to raise the unit a little bit more. ~4 inches might be the best....

I will use some painters tape as it removes well.

The closer to the floor the colder the intake air is.

 I may raise it :

1 more inch
then 2 more inch
then 3 more inch
then 4 more inch

to find the sweet spot.

I am doing a solid 1320-1335 gh  and not that hot.
39354  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [GUIDE] Strato's Antminer S5 Vertical Mounting Setup Guide - OC with Less Heat on: February 07, 2015, 01:14:04 PM
Dogie is correct that the air escapes  from the bottom and top of the unit.   see this photo.

Dogie is wrong that it is not cooler at least in my case.  It is cooler this way with 1 unit in a 12 by 12 by 7.5 very well insulated room.

It is 1 or 2 f cooler with the window shut.

It is 4 or 5 f cooler with the window open and outside air was 15  or 16 f this morning

a lot of air comes out of the bottom of the unit. IN this photo  now the bottom Is a wall of aluminum heat sink facing us

I am going to make a solid bottom over the weekend will post on Monday.

look close I have a few heatsinks on the unit.

39355  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [GUIDE] Strato's Antminer S5 Vertical Mounting Setup Guide - OC with Less Heat on: February 07, 2015, 12:50:47 PM
no it is on the floor next to the spare bed. I just checked it and the room is too cold with the window open.  Here are the numbers on the 1 piece.

I will post some photos later.

that is a stainless steel grill it allows cold air to be sucked up from the floor.  it was 73f on the floor with the window closed

window was open last night that 9 volt battery is for scale

the grill is spaced to let air in

close look at the ss grill

the actual fan grill is spaced about ½ inch
39356  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Mining Container ~100kW by Polivka GmbH on: February 07, 2015, 12:37:37 PM
This would have been nice to have last year, but this year prices make it too costly.  100 kwatts  are about 140 s-5s  since you have 114 plugs lets say it will do 114 s-5s'   114 x 1.15 th = 131 th

At 8 cents a kwatt . that 18000 usd unit take 81 days to pay off.

I have left the shipping price out.
I have left the psu price out.
I have left the s-5 price out.

I have frozen the diff at 42 and in 3 days it is going to 45

I have to say it is a nice piece of gear .
I would love to have filled with s-5's mining in a warehouse using some low cost power.
Good luck selling it.

Well I've got my 2 S5's running together. Literally. Looks like 1 of my controller boards is not working properly, so I decided that I would make both of my S5's run off of the same controller card.

Here is my Status page showing both S5's running off the same controller board. The temps are little warm but I'm adjusting some fans and I'm powering my fan's externally.
