3941  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NXT Ought to be Taken Seriously on: January 18, 2014, 02:16:31 PM
Well yeah sure five years is plenty of time for the rich to grab the lion's share of anything that comes along.

You could give out one whatever to each person on earth and it likely wouldn't take five years to achieve a worse skewed distribution than that, at least if what you give everyone is genuinely useful and valuable.

What are the distributions of gold, platinum, diamonds, emeralds, rubies, acres of land, dollars, yen, etc etc etc?

Hey mark what did you think of the essay? Did you find any mistakes?

Hi all,

Just had my wallet password hacked/stolen.

500k from my wallet (86162509365658888) was moved to this address 6122084737303019172.

I'm guessing no one can really help on this. (Yes running AV and on an OSX system)

Just a reminder to use really long passwords. Sad

If you dont mind me asking can you tell us more about your password. How long was it, was it real words, did it contain real words, did it contain true random. The more information the better. I would like to gauge the progression of the rainbow tables.

20 random characters generated by my password manager.
does anyone else find it hard to believe that someone could brute force 20 characters of true random?

Important announcement
...
BCNext will choose 10 people. I'll contact these people privately to ask for an account id. Each of them will create a special account and send it to me. 1M NXT will be sent to each account (10M total, not 9M, so the community is supposed to subsidize the public nodes by itself). Jean-Luc will be asked to add a special code that blocks outgoing transactions from these special accounts. When the community decides how to spend part of the unclaimed coins, Jean-Luc will change the code to allow partial withdrawals possible. 10 chosen ones will send 1/10th of the required amount to the account the funds r supposed to go to.

It smells like... "One ring to rule them all" Sad
Very bad idea to rule accounts and coins through code changing.

Its better than bcnext having control over all of the coins himself. Besides its only ~10million anyway. Thats only 1% of the total currency supply. Ideally the donors would have just claimed their coins, this is just a countermeasure to help deal with that problem. Not perfect sure but not bad either.

3950  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Anon136's NXT Orderbook & Escrow Service (closing, not enough interest) on: January 17, 2014, 08:07:24 PM
Orderbook: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AuZ9UiDk97ajdFQtdHN2RElUQU10NjdqRUNkWm5uUlE

The rules:
  • Orders must either be refreshed or modified in some capacity at least once every 72 hours or they will be deleted
  • Escrow is optional but if you chose to settle the transactions without my assistance please do not forget to inform me so that I may delete the order

Additional rules will be added as I think of them or as the need becomes apparent. My rate for escrow is 0.9% or 0.01btc, which ever is larger. Fee will be payed by the party who fills the order.

People actually buy this scamcoin?

Valuable insight there, stay away then and continue investing in DigiBytes and Klondikecoin... just a few gems I saw in your post history. Smiley
100% premine? Biggest scam I've ever heard of.

There are actually massive advantages to pure proof of stake. I prefer to think of it as a massive gamble. If the seed round investors don't distribute enough of their coins than we will all be screwed (themselves included). If they do than we will be filthy rich.

what did you mean by that?
You mean in the long term right? I mean if they distribute a lot right now price will go down further...

Why is it assumed that the price going down is a bad thing? There are always two parties to every transaction and one of those parties always wants a lower price Tongue

Since the original orderbook seems to be defunct I'm working on a new one. Does anyone know how to make one column display more decimal places than another column with google docs spreadsheet?

3955  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Decisions on 9 million common fund on: January 17, 2014, 04:45:25 PM
Yes, I agree that we should be in no rush to spend anything at the moment.  I think this fund should be used to develop some really key and high level features on the development side.  We could offer higher bounties, like 500k to develop key client features.

+1

A bounty for a strong implementation of decentralized exchange would be a great way to spend some of these funds.

How about other questions? Your answer get me clear.

Oh, too many words in other questions, I can't read all the text, u all post so much text. Could u create a list with short answers?

could make a questions for cfb thread, force everyone to stay on topic there and only answer questions asked there. you know it if gets really out of hand.
3957  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 17, 2014, 04:25:13 PM
it is kind of silly that there are empty blocks. one would think that forgers would wait until there was atleast 1 transaction before having any reason to forge a block. but i guess thats not the way the client is written and it Isn't worth anyones time to mess with it.
That's how every crypto since bitcoin work.
You need blocks at constant rate just to confirm previous transactions. Every new block add one confirmation and protect previous transactions.

im just saying that it doesn't make sense for the individual to do it
3958  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 17, 2014, 04:11:15 PM
did I somehow forge an empty block or are there unlucky blocks and I've been unlucky 3 times in a row?
Right. There are still many empty blocks on network.

So what causes the empty blocks and will there always be so many?
Because then the description of the likelihood to forge a block i'm sure is correct, but the likely hood of a reward from that is 25%  Huh
based on my current experience.

Even though i would probably stand to benefit from these funds being allocated for marketing, i do not think it is wise and i do not support such an initiative. I would personally prefer that they be used to pay for third party developers (stuff like clients), an audit from a cryptographer with strong credentials and a well recognized name, and perhaps as a reward for the first large exchange to add nxt (cryptcy || vircurex || btce) . However if this post fails to effect the outcome of how these funds are distributed and some are, against my wishes, allocated for marketing, than i would be willing to sit on the marketing committee.
