3941  Economy / Economics / Re: Biden’s Treasury Secretary pick - Cryptos Used Mainly for Illicit Financing on: January 23, 2021, 09:19:33 PM
The crypto question was asked by Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH), who talked about “the importance of treasury programs to combat the financing of terrorists and criminal organizations.” She said she had raised the issue in previous hearings with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.
That's a bunch of crap, and it's not the real reason she wants to "curtail" crypto use.  My best guess is that the IRS is concerned about tax evasion (also a bunch of crap, since most of that comes from business owners) and has influenced her opinion on crypto.

I can't say I long for the days of Trump's presidency, but I would have preferred a libertarian candidate winning, or another republican--though I realize that would have been impossible in the 2020 election.  The government keeps those printing presses running 24/7 and even on Christmas, yet they don't want the average citizen to have any control over the purchasing power of their money.  Fuck those democratic goons, especially a hypocrite from New Hampshire, the motto of which is "Live Free or Die".

3942  Economy / Economics / Re: Florida bank says it has closed Trump's accounts on: January 23, 2021, 06:52:06 PM
Could Trump's 1st response be to seek out liquidity in cryptocurrencies. Or would he be more likely to simply seek out other banks to do business with?
Answer to the first question: NO.  Answer to the second: yeah, probably.  Trump is a billionaire and has good relationships with lots of banks, and I don't think he's ever going to have a problem with money.  And this sounds like some banks are trying to distance themselves from Trump because of the violence at the Capitol--but memories are short, and those banks might very well reverse their positions in the future after things have cooled down.

At least Trump doesn't have to deal with shady crypto exchanges that unexpectedly throw in a KYC requirement when you want to withdraw funds.  It's not like any banks have stolen his money or that he has to put up with all the petty shit that we crypto investors have to put up with.
3943  Economy / Economics / Re: MicroStrategy Buys $250M in Bitcoin, Calling the Crypto ‘Superior to Cash’ on: January 23, 2021, 05:56:43 PM
For sure I wouldn't do that to brag about it, being a "value investor".
Yeah, value investor my ass--at least Miller isn't being one in this case:

Note the P/E of 5048.  Usually, value investors don't chase stocks with P/E's as high as that.  Warren Buffet probably hasn't purchased a stock with a P/E higher than 18.  So yeah, MSTR is massively overvalued--even more so than the rest of the stock market right now.

Also, it's no wonder Miller didn't buy MSTR stock outright.  There aren't that many shares outstanding relative to other companies.
3944  Economy / Economics / Re: MicroStrategy Buys $250M in Bitcoin, Calling the Crypto ‘Superior to Cash’ on: January 23, 2021, 05:38:18 PM
  • Buying MicroStrategy, you are not only buying bitcoin, buy you are also buying a whole sovrastructure you are not probably interested in. Just remember that MicroStrategy sells software, what if software do not work? Do not sell? If there is a patent infringement potentially causing billions of loss?
Good point--I didn't read the article, but I got the general gist of it by what you posted.  It sounds like Miller wants to hedge his bitcoin bet big time and might be interested in MSTR itself as well as the bitcoin they hold (even if that's not what he's saying).

Kind of makes me wonder how many other investors are buying MicroStrategy stock "for the bitcoin".  Based on their stock's performance since they started buying BTC, my guess is more than a few.  Crazy.  And I don't really have a problem with that; some folks don't want to buy actual bitcoin.  They'd rather buy shares in a company that owns a lot of it.  I can understand that as a stock market nut myself, but as a bitcoin nut I see your point completely.
3945  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: HitBTC Scam on: January 22, 2021, 11:27:36 PM
<snip>
Bro, I and many others agree with you about HitBTC being a scam exchange, but you don't have to necrobump multiple threads dealing with that issue.  There are already more than a few active right now, a couple of which I've posted in due to getting a dose of their dishonesty recently.

Our team is always ready to help
My ass you are.
3946  Economy / Economics / Re: MicroStrategy Buys $250M in Bitcoin, Calling the Crypto ‘Superior to Cash’ on: January 22, 2021, 08:52:05 PM
"The time to buy is when there's blood in the streets."
That's a great saying and it's true--but with respect to bitcoin, there's no blood anywhere to be seen on any streets.  Blood was a-plenty back when COVID-19 hit and bitcoin fell below $6k, but all of a sudden after it's hit its all-time high it's a brilliant move to be buying bitcoin.  To me that's insanity.

And frankly I couldn't care less if it were MicroStrategy's CEO buying bitcoin with his own money, but he's not--he's buying it with his public company's money, and boy are they going to be pissed off if bitcoin doesn't keep performing well.  Of course I'm hoping it does anyway, but I question whether he should be buying more at these prices.  It's kind of like big companies that buy back their own stock when it's trading at a P/E of 90.  In hindsight, it's always viewed as a stupid move.  But we'll see.  I'm hoping for the best for MSTR.
3947  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Where to Buy Mobo's, CPU, and RAM Combos? on: January 22, 2021, 04:44:54 PM
If by the highlighted part, you meant in a way that the choices that you get are compatible with each other, then I believe "newegg's PC builder" only shows you compatible choices if you choose your components starting from the top, then simply add those to the cart and pay with BTCitcoin.
- Having said those, they use BitPay as their payment processor [unfortunately].
I swear by Newegg, though I have had problems with BitPay (although I have to take some responsibility for that).  One thing about them is that you can only pay with bitcoin if the item is sold by Newegg, so keep that in mind if that was your intention OP.

I'd imagine they'd have everything you'd need, and they ship very quickly too.
3948  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Reporting HiTBTC and Bequant to authorities for their scams and frauds on: January 22, 2021, 01:25:33 PM
I rolled the dice (so to speak) recently and tried to buy some Curecoin on HitBTC, never having used them before--and I knew about their awful reputation before I made a deposit, but I thought I'd give it a shot.

What happened was exactly as OP described.  They took my deposit just fine and allowed me to trade....and then hit me with the KYC requirements when I went to withdraw my coins.  Granted, I didn't read their ToS but Jesus, if there's any kind of KYC required on an exchange, that exchange needs to let you know up front and in big bold letters that it's a requirement.  Anything less than that is just being dishonest, especially given that most people won't go through with a KYC requirement--and as OP stated, HitBTC no doubt knows this and is using it to their advantage.

I'm not sure I'll complain, though I really should.
3949  Other / Meta / Re: Petition: Lock the BSV topics in the altcoin boards ... ? on: January 22, 2021, 01:06:55 PM
Therefore, CSW is NOT Satoshi Nakamoto and BSV is NOT Bitcoin.
I think we all agree on that (with exceptions of course).

Whilst I support free speech ... must we continually tolerate fraudulent and abhorrent behavior, against Bitcoin (BTC), the developers and this community ?
If you want speech to truly be free, you have to protect speech that you don't like; that's offensive; and may not be true.  Anything else is just censorship, and I think any claims that BSV is bitcoin or that CSW is Satoshi should be countered with facts (or requests for proof in the case of the former).  I don't think any censorship needs to be employed here--and remember, this is a forum where outright scammers aren't even banned, much less bald-faced liars.
3950  Other / Meta / Re: {LIST}of the Merit Sources asking for more smerit. New Round. on: January 22, 2021, 01:30:57 AM
Don't know about the others, as I have notice something awful in the past few months, others might have noticed it already and still I won't say who...
I'm absolutely confused as to what you're referring to--but I'm damn curious.

Anyway, I need more source sMerits.  They were getting replenished very quickly for a while, and then it just kind of stopped.  Fortunately I have plenty of personal sMerits which I'll probably have to tap into within the next week or so if I don't get a top-up from Theymos.  I'm a-still tryin' to be a good merit source, and I think I've gotten off to a good start this year and I'm going to try to do even better as far as distributing the merits far and wide (though I'm not lowering my standards).

New sources could be good...
I tend to agree with you, especially since I saw that there was a large number of merit sources who dropped out in the past 6 months to a year or so.  Hopefully Theymos isn't having second thoughts about the merit system--you never know, because he doesn't give his thoughts on the matter all that often.
3951  Economy / Exchanges / Re: is it a pattern of new scam: in the name of KYC, lock their fund. on: January 22, 2021, 01:19:41 AM
Binance asked me to send me a VIDEO of myself after going through extensive verification to restore my password that stopped working after taking several weeks back and forth e-mail with their cust. service. I cited privacy concern and whether their next stage of their verification will be a the video of my dicks or some private part and they stopped responding.
That's goddamn ridiculous.  Similarly, I had a problem logging into my Robinhood account and I couldn't receive an SMS text from them because I'd changed my phone number and didn't update it with them (I rarely log into my account).  They told me they can't make a simple phone call to me to verify my info.  They wanted the front and back of my driver's license, which I submitted to some 3rd party site--and Robinhood said they never got it.  I just said "fuck it" and gave up.

I didn't know Binance was such a ball-buster, but it sounds like they're completely inflexible.  And then there are shitty exchanges like HitBTC that hit you with KYC when you want to withdraw funds.  They have no problem with you depositing funds or trading, but even for a small amount of crypto they want all your dox.  They're another one I just gave up on and took the loss.

I'm getting tired of this crap, too.
3952  Economy / Economics / Re: New US presidents are privacy-friendly? on: January 21, 2021, 11:24:40 PM
Quote
President Joe Biden has frozen all federal regulatory proposals, including former Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin's proposed rules on self-hosted crypto wallets, until his new administration can review them.

Just based on the above quote, it looks like Biden is just taking a wait-and-see approach to things he probably doesn't know much about--and remember, he has to unfuck a lot of what Trump fucked up in the country and that's going to take some time.

But privacy?  Sad to say, but it's dying.  Not just in the US but all over the world--look at how many CCTV cameras England has, and how much power the governments of N. Korea and China have over their citizens' data.  Unless people revolt, that trend isn't going to reverse itself, and in order for people to revolt, they actually have to care.  Seems to me like most people don't give two craps about their privacy.  Look at all the stuff people post on FB and other social media sites.  You think the government/law enforcement isn't watching all of that?
3953  Economy / Exchanges / Re: HitBTC.com - The most advanced cryptocurrency exchange on: January 21, 2021, 10:31:40 PM
But now they got me too, withdrawl locked Sad

Was the 2nd transaction in the day, the first worked fine the 2nd LOCKED.
Yep, I got scammed by them about a week ago when I registered and placed an order for a coin....and then I found out that they don't let you withdraw anything unless you go through their KYC procedures.  I think I even got an e-mail from them about "suspicious activity" but I promptly deleted it.  Luckily I didn't get scammed for a huge amount, but it was enough such that it pissed me off for a few hours.

They are a lousy exchange, and my guess is that they won't be around much longer with behavior such as they exhibit.
3954  Economy / Economics / Re: Biden do even bigger stimulus on: January 21, 2021, 10:01:56 PM
OP, you really seem to be fixated on all this stimulus money the US is giving out.  Are you even a US citizen?

Hyperinflation might happen, but there won't be much impact over the cryptocurrency market.
Ah, to the contrary.  If the USD were to suddenly experience a hyperinflation scenario, my guess is that assets like bitcoin would soar--along with gold and other tangible assets.  But as much as I'm a fan of bitcoin, I don't want to see any such thing happen to the USD or any of the major world currencies, because that would mean the world economy is in serious trouble.

And yet....I don't see how we're going to be able to avoid at least very high inflation with all of this money printing and stimulus, unless the government raises taxes like crazy once the economy is stable, or if they figure out a way to cut spending without whacking the bee's nest that is the US government, where nobody wants their own funding cut.  We're in 2021; it should prove to be a very interesting decade.
3955  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Hall of Shame on: January 20, 2021, 08:10:01 PM
cryptoboss2020:  over the last 6 months, cryptoboss2020 has posted an average of 4.8 posts of utter nonsense each day in a variety of forums.

OpenCryptoSystems: In just the last month, OpenCryptoSystems has made over 90 posts that rival those of cryptoboss2020.

Honorable Mention:

Polo7: Polo7 hasn't been around since last November, but the brief appearance included some bold and ridiculous predictions that never panned out. I wonder if Polo7 is the same person as OpenCryptoSystems.
I'll give it to you: those two are definitely good candidates based on your criteria.

Man, I'm so bad remembering bitcointalk members' names--especially when they're shitposters, but I've always thought Khristian (I hope I got his username right) was one of the worst, though I don't think he'd meet your criteria, OP, since he doesn't seem to be that active anymore.  All of his posts were generic nonsense, and they used to drive me up a wall.  Sorry, I just had to mention him.

I think cryptoboss2020 is an alt account of some other shitposter, probably one who's banned, though that's just conjecture on my part.  I don't have any hard evidence.
3956  Economy / Economics / Re: Miami mayor considers investing in bitcoin with public funds on: January 20, 2021, 07:47:34 PM
OMG:
Quote
“If I would have done it last year, I would have made 200 plus percent,” Mayor Francis Suarez said on FOX Business' “Varney and Co.” “So I would have looked like a genius.”

And if he invests in bitcoin now--right when it's very near its all-time high, he might look like a complete friggin' taxpayer money-wasting idiot in a year's time.

Hell, I applaud his sentiment and I'm a fervent bitcoin supporter myself, but if you're looking to use bitcoin as an investment, you have to get in at the right price.  That's true of any investment, and I'm not sure Mr. Suarez is being wise by making this statement or if he's seriously thinking about buying bitcoin with taxpayers' money right now.  Imagine what the outcry would be like if bitcoin dropped by 50% in the next year.  The dude would probably be impeached and no doubt wouldn't stand a chance come re-election time.
3957  Economy / Economics / Re: Will President Joe Biden be good for business? on: January 20, 2021, 06:30:21 PM
Joseph Robinette Biden
Lol, is that his middle name?  I confess I don't watch the news and hate politics, but that's an interesting one if true.

IMO Biden won't be any worse than Trump for business or anything else, although I don't know about his tax policies or how much he likes war.  One thing that Trump didn't do was get the US involved in any massive conflicts.  But in either case, I think Biden will be fine for the economy/business as long as his policies can get the coronavirus outbreak under control.  That, I think, is the main variable as far as the economy is concerned.  We can't keep businesses closed and people out of work and still expect to be a prosperous country.

Time will tell.  I'm just ecstatic that Trump is (almost) out of the White House.  I was afraid we'd be in for another four years of that BS.
3958  Economy / Economics / Re: Can you put your investment motto in one sentence when you enter the cryptocurre on: January 20, 2021, 06:20:22 PM
This is a silly thread, but nonetheless I'll play along:

"Buy low, sell high".  That something a lot of investors don't do.  They wait until the price of bitcoin/whatever to start to skyrocket before they begin buying it instead of buying it when it's already beaten down.  Not that I actually trade bitcoin much, but I certainly don't buy it when it's at levels like this.  Now's the time to either sell it if you're a trader or to be sitting on a big pile of it for the long term.

And as a runner up:  "Don't invest money into bitcoin/whatever that you're going to need next month".  That's yet another mistake I see a lot of people make, and it's also why I think a lot of them sell at prices that aren't ideal.
3959  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Is Binance really that bad? on: January 19, 2021, 10:48:20 PM
You have to take reviews like that -- which you'll find about every exchange, if you look -- with a grain of salt.
Big time grain of salt, especially when you're talking about Binance.  I haven't used them in at least a couple of years, but I haven't exactly seen any scam accusations against them in that time either--and they were one of the best exchanges out there when I was using them.

People complain about a lot of exchanges, but a lot of time what you won't see is any followup as to whether the issue was resolved or not, so it's really hard to tell what's what sometimes, even with notoriously shady exchanges like Yobit.  But OP if you're on the fence about whether to trust Binance or not, I'd say go for it.  They're legit and they have a customer service department that's actually responsive in case trouble does arise.
3960  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: WeSellCryptos is back! - Automatic PayPal purchase BTC/ETH. on: January 19, 2021, 05:28:28 PM
I think that I was using its brother weselldoge? Or was it this same website?
I'm 99.9% sure they were all the same thing, and there were other "wesell..X" domains that functioned as instant PayPal exchanges before they all just disappeared.

OK, so I did click on that image above and it looks great and all (except for that "become verified" part), but where's the site?  OP?  Got any more info you'd like to share?
