39461  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: GAW Miners Paybase Paycoin unofficial uncensored discussion.ALWAYS MAKE MONEY :) on: February 02, 2015, 11:28:28 PM
Josh has shown the world the ability to attack and kill off coins.. Before paycoin he was huge in killing off LTC.

I bailed and sold everything I had with Zen /GAw back in Oct.  I kept the free Fury gift converted it to a prime converted it to a hashstaker and sold off 50 or 60 bucks of paycoin when it was at 6 or 7 bucks.

At this moment I have 2 hash stakers from the converted fury and I guess 2.7 paycoins.

have to say that the paycoin mining rush on westhash and nicehash was really good. I earned 3 btc vs .5 btc renting my rigs to paycoin miners.

Josh's biggest benefit to the world of digital coins was to show all of us mine your coins in your house.   Not in the cloud

too bad more and more cloud mining hosts pop up.
39462  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [lee group]340$ the sales promotion of hosted antminer S5(golden psu included) on: February 02, 2015, 11:08:20 PM
Stay tuned.....  Still dont understand the price hike.

It's easy, when Bitcoin was rising up from $220 -> $300+ bitmain took the opportunity to increase the price of all their products on two occasions to line their own pockets

Then when Bitcoin fell from $300+ -> $220 they took the opportunity to leave the price the same, to line their pockets even more.

HTH

Yep which is why I was grateful that Lee  opened this at 340 a unit. He did this  before the second price hike to 370 by Bitmaintech and since he had the gear on hand he did not raise the price.  Now that he sold out the  he had gear at 340 which I pointed out in more then one spot on this forum was a lower price then bitmaintech was selling them for.

He ordered more gear at 370 price point.  Unfortunately for me I only ordered one at 340 and now I am facing that same rise as the rest of us. I wish Lee had mentioned he was selling  out his first 500 before he did.

I won't be buying at the 370 price. As it is more costly then I think it is worth.
39463  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.25/GH & 0.51W/GH on: February 02, 2015, 09:12:00 PM
I posted numerous post on how to get the fan noise down and looks like no one even read it. Now you guys are trying ridiculous mods to bring down fan speed instead of using common sense!
I asked you a question regarding your "shroud" mod a few pages back, but didn't receive an answer.  I'm trying again.  You achieved a decent noise level reduction by installing the shroud, which judging from your photo also removed the finger guard.  Given that removing the finger guard alone reduces the noise level, did you check how much reduction resulted from each of the two changes?  That would be helpful to know!  Thanks!

the finger guard can be moved away from the fan by 10 to 15 mm.  use a few longer bolts and some spacers

I have concluded that the s-5 can run long term at freq 412  with 2 delta fans at 60db at under 20 bucks.

my error rate is 99.9648 good and 0.0352 bad.

my gh is 1331  my watts are 686 counting the extra fans  this is 0.514 watts per gh
39464  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Philipma1957's attempt to rate current Manufacturers of Asic . Results in. on: February 02, 2015, 09:00:18 PM
I really like the idea of this, but would like to see some more depth to it. Maybe have a rating scale per company on each question? It is pretty obvious everyone knows SP-Tech and Bitmain are the only good sellers, but it would be cool to see who does what better.

yeah I kind of want to do a 3 way comparison of :

Sp20
S-5
Avalon4.1

price
shipping cost
watt to gh  on low
watt to gh  on med
watt to gh on fast
firmware quality
warranty
ease of setup
Sound levels
case quality
ease to mod it.

I have the sp20's on hand
I have a s-5 on hand
I am trying to get an avalon 4.1  for demo    so far I may be able to get one with a small discount

frankly I don't think a lot of people understand what the reviews take to do in terms of time.  Imageshack charges me for the photos. This thread started a small feud with people picking sides. Not that sure if the effort is worth it anymore.

For example if I decide to review the  avalon 4.1 I will need to spend  about 1.6 coins( a discounted item)  minimum for a piece of gear I don't need.

I would do this basically just to determine 3 things how loud is it on eco mode ?
what is the real power use on eco mode ?
what does it take to set it up ?

Right now no one has shown clear easy photos or reviews of this on our site. To be fair there are 2 reviews on from dogie and one from valkir. Neither review answers those questions in an acceptable manner  so  why should do it when I  got  a shit load of grief for running this thread?

Btc is in a funny spot right now and for the first time since I started in August of 2012 I have real doubts
due to the push towards data centers.

I can crunch numbers pretty well and I don't like what I see.  Kind of asking myself do I want to be in a game where asic builders push towards cloud mining  and the deals they offer are worse then me mining in house.  My rates are 16 cents in the summer  and 13 cents in the winter   Winter adjusts to 10 cents with heat savings.

only lee's 500 s-5's hosted in china are cheap as my home in the winter.  he is sold out and his new deal is going to reflect bitmaintech's price rise to 370 a unit.

When the two best real world things for me are coins drop to 170 usd or rise to 340 usd in the next week or two it has become discouraging.

Starting to feel like an end of an era...

yeah does not look good.

39468  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is Cloud Mining doomed? on: February 02, 2015, 05:29:29 PM
With recent announcements from CEX.IO and CloudHashing.com effectively turning off their customers some people seem to think that Cloud Mining for Bitcoins is doomed.

If the "big guys" can't make it work for people, can anyone else?

We think so, and you can read why at http://www.megamine.com/cloudhashingdoomed.php

500 Ghs minimum purchase !!! Roll Eyes

Moreover, 0.455 USD/Ghs is equivalent to 0.002 BTC/Ghs at current market rate. Probably the highest rate in the industry.

the offer has a break even point in more then 400 days.  with frozen diff and frozen  btc pric.  cloud sellers are crazy over priced at the moment.
39469  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is Cloud Mining doomed? on: February 02, 2015, 05:16:06 PM
your prices are too high for 1 th both the up front price and the  maintenance fee.

lets say  I buy 10th contract cost = 4890 up front - 5% since I use bitcoin =  4645.50 up front  then $16.13 a day to maintain it  10 th earns 26.96 a day

so 26.96 - 16.13 = 10.83 a day profit    since I gave you 4645.50 up front  that means  428 or 429  days to break even,  If coins and diff stays frozen.

You like spondoolies new cloud deal are far too expensive.
39470  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Twinfury USB miner on: February 02, 2015, 04:38:00 PM
I have just bought 2 of these miners off someone and one works fine all four lights light up but with the other one when I plug it in the green and two orange light up only and then when I launch my miner the green goes off and the red comes on and it won't give me any hash at all?? Anyone know what that might be from or how to fix it?

these units need good usb hubs.  how are you powering these?

39473  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: February 02, 2015, 11:36:01 AM
Disappointed in the cloud mining offer as it is too costly to buy into it.  I want to thank you for the sp20 miners I purchased they are nice.

Looks like BTC is in for a rough ride the next 2-4 months.

The  cloud  contract is  just not competitive. 449usd for 1 th and $1.90 a day  is just not working for me.

I have to hope for 0 diff growth and more then 1 year to pay out.

I can get an s-5 hosted in china 340usd for 1.15 th  and 1.45 a day to host.  And I actually own the s-5. I get to chose 3 pools plus I get to view my miner mining.

Is not there any way you can get closer to this for your cloud deal. you are miles apart from them.

I'm fully aware of Lee's group. We're working on ways to reduce maintenance fees, but it will take time.

Genesis is pretty in-transparent to me. Where to see the terms and conditions of the deal? I have to register before that?
Yes you do need to log into the website.  If you go back a few pages here on this thread the contract copy is  available.

$449 for 1 th and $1.90 a day to host it is correct.  They have the right to cancel contract if BTC get too low or Diff gets to high and the 1tb is not earning $1.90 a day. As I type 1 th earns $2.70 a day   so 2.70 - 1.90 =  $0.80 a day profit.

That is absolutely razor tight  it takes 561 days to break even.  that is with frozen diff and frozen btc price.

I love spondoolies sp20 they have been good to me price wise, but this deal does not work for me.

I did but 1 s-5 from the Chinese hosting group.  I paid 392 usd for 1 s-5 mines at 1150 gh  I got mining until feb 20 with that. I then pay 1.42 usd a day.  So my miner earns  3.11 a day.  First 25 days were paid in.  so 25 x 3.11 = 77.75 .  392 - 77.75 = 314.25 in the hole on feb 20.

from then on  3.11 - 1.42 =  1.69 a day profit   after 186 days  that 314.25 is paid off.

so 25 + 186= 211 days to break even    vs 561 days.   As much as I like spondoolies sp20 over the s-5 for mining in my home.

And I have 9 sp20  vs 1 s-5 I do not like the genesis deal on paper very much at all

Looks like a nice piece of gear.

I have the one before the B got it from crazy guy to run Minera.

Site went down for most of us it not all of us yesterday.

http://www.isitdownrightnow.com/bitcointalk.org.html

 blue bars = up

white = down

that site can be used for most other websites.

So  contest  deadline was extended here to fix the issue.

  Thanks suchmoon

Grin Grin Grin
go New England

Thanks Kano.

you got your wish a miner for you and New England won!  Nice day.
39478  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Unofficial Spondoolies SP20 thread on: February 02, 2015, 02:41:14 AM
westhash.com  p=0.016
nicehash.com  p=0.016  >>>>>>  try p=0.0159
kano.is
f2pool.com
antpool.com

small correction see the   slight price difference avoids choice confusion on the softwares part.

acutally use westhash first if western hemisphere  and nice hash first if  europe , asia , africa ,australia

Thanks. That's a good idea.

Since WestHash is closer to me, here's how I've configured my pools now:

westhash.com  p=0.0159
nicehash.com  p=0.016
kano.is
f2pool.com
antpool.com

Looks like I'm all set. At least until the next difficulty change and I have to recompute the profit constant.

Of course what we need now is some event to drive rentals through the roof, like what happened with Paycoin  Smiley

yeah but sometimes people do all  the hash at  a top rate for ½ a day you will pick up on that every time now.
39479  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Spondoolies-Tech vs Bitmain for a larger operation? on: February 02, 2015, 02:32:29 AM

Make your costs lower than anyone else, and you will do better than anyone else.  Never forget that mining is a zero sum game.  There is only so much pie to go around.

Long term, the only thing that matters is are your costs lower than others.   Exact figures don't matter, what matters is can you beat labor and electricty rates that others will locate anywhere in the world to achieve.

I would not be happy about your projected costs, they look bad to me.   You need to improve them.  Look outside of Ohio.

39480  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: 2 AVA4.1s Won! [5000 TH] CKPool (kano.is) from the cgminer devs [0.9% PPLNS] on: February 01, 2015, 10:02:48 PM
Thank you for nice contest even if I did not win it. PS I am keeping my miners here just no more rentals. This means I will be at 11 or 12 th not 20 to 35 th.

I hope they post some reviews on the gear in hardware. I am very curious as to lowest hash settings for low sound and low power draw.
