3961  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This Is How To Kill XT… on: August 23, 2015, 02:58:13 PM
Increase the BlockSize on Core.

It's obvious. We all want to increase the block size. Virtually no one disagrees about that. We have consensus!

But why doesn't it happen? Because the Core developers have invested 21 million dollars in BlockStream which requires small block sizes to maximize it's usefulness and profits. If you want to talk about a hostile takeover of Bitcoin, its' this TINY group of people who don't want to increase the block size vs the VAST MAJORITY of everyone else that wants to increase the Blocksize on Core.

The only reason XT is even in serious consideration, the only reason people are threatening to split bitcoin into two chains and go against consensus, is because the OBVIOUS SOLUTION to our problem is being stone walled by these developers who have more incentive for the success of BlockStream than they have incentive for the success of Bitcoin.

As the Core developers will not allow for a block size increase on Core, the only logical solution is to vote for XT. If you want to drop XT in it's tracks, support a block size increase on Core.
there is a thrid path

find some devs willing to fork Core yet again ( excetly how XT did it ) with increased block size and nothing else

then we let the miners and users decide which fork to run,

1)with block limit,  Core
2)with minimal block limit increase,  Core++
3)with block limit increase and loads of other changes we arent sure about, XT

Edit: fuck it man make like 3 different version of Core each one mines blocks with a different version number corresponding to the different proposed implementation of limit increase

lol wtf

first off you can't have anyone and everyone "the community" making changes as they please to the code base without completely destroying that code.

second, if anything XT proves just how decentralized Bitcoin dev is, and at any point in time a change can be made WITHOUT consensus via forking, whether or not this fork is accepted  by the community is another story.

third, TLDR too much nonsense

Somebody is launching a shitload of XT nodes all on VPS hosting, the next step in the saga.

What makes you believe it is one person?  What makes you believe they are using VPS hosting?

Could it not be people waiting till the weekend to have the time to make the switch?

agreed

XT now at 3 blocks out of every 1000 blocks

i got a BBBBAAADDD feeling about this
long way to 750  Grin but I think its coming like it or not... maybe not....

first its 1 then 3 then 6 then 12 then 24 then 48 then 96 then 192 then 384 and then well then we're all fucked by the CIA while we profit from 500$ 32,000$ XTCoins

Adam, why do you insist that bitcoin is fabricated by the CIA, I'm worried that in the future you might say that the FBI is behind it as well and it's a mega-super-uber honeypot !!

you know what satoshi nakamoto stands for? satoshi  = wize one, nakamoto = central origin, wize central origin, Intelligence Central, Central Intelligence Agency

put that in your pipe and smoke it

Yes it possible, I almost download XT earlier but then didn't lol. doesn't mean I would install or open port 8333. Plus you can still use both versions until XT core takes over... if I understand that part correctly.

right 2 weeks after its taken 75% of HASHING power not number of nodes

its currently at 0.3% of hashing power ( up 300% from yesterday )

it might be hard for XT to get 75% miners seem to prefer the idea that 1MB limit will soon bring in higher TX fees

its likely that the XT Vs Core war will continue for months at most nearly a year!

will price continue to decline until this is resolved?

how much FUD can you handle, before you call it quits and sell?

Good question and if I answer truthly,, The fudders will not make me call it quits and sell. I've been here to long to let a group of dafto's make me stumble. As you already know the price will keep declining whenever the whales want to take advantage of the fud attacks. How about you, how much of the crap can you or will you handle?

no plans to ever sell any significant % my stash, I been playing with bitcoin for a long time, whatever happens I made a nice little sum of money so I can handle the FUD but it's still annoying i mean i have a big % of wealth in BTC and I bought in the 500 400 300 200's... every other week its like FUD FUD FUD, it's no wonder price is so low, can it go much lower? maybe, but who cares because it definitely can and probably will eventually be higher, much higher. I plan to Spend into the bull market when it finally comes, Maybe I'll sell some % only to buy back lower should we go into full on bubble mode again.

Core devs are invested in blockstream, without a block limit their project is pretty useless
Without a block limit the whole bitcoin project is pretty useless.

That's like saying as long is there is a cap on how many websites the Internet can handle the Internet is pretty useless.

Bitcoin needs to stand on its own two feet. Lifting the cap entirely will force miners to use larger blocks at their own discretion and risk getting orphaned when choosing to create a block too big before someone creates a valid block.

fuck ya, block size limit? what block size limit?

prefect!

this is what everyone will look like when Core decieds to up the limit a bit

don't disappoint Everyone core devs

UP THE LIMIT TO 2FUCKING MEGABYTES YOU SONS OF BITCHES

Why don't you just do it and release the source compile it on your end and run it?

i'm not setup to compile bitcoin.... its a shame because i could.

Gavin owns alot of coins, he's doing what he thinks is necessary for the survival of bitcoin

Haven't you heard that he was selling his bitcoins and buying stocks?

In article from January:
Quote
While Mr Andresen tries to prepare bitcoin for mass usage, he advises caution to investors. He holds thousands of bitcoins, enough to retire comfortably. But he has been cashing them in slowly, investing in stock market funds instead.

Shocked Shocked

Gavin??? NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! Never!!!!

Right guys??...  Huh Huh

lol like you haven't done the exact same thing.

wtv i would much rather go with Core, but we need at least a small bump in block limit, if for nothing else but to crush XT and put this BS behind us

lol tell that to satoshi, he intended to have no block size limit,  block size limit was a quick fix to possible spam attack while coins where pretty useless.

This is still a slippery slope argument. You're assuming that the Bitcoin ecosystem is so stupid that they will adopt just any change no matter how destructive it would be.

It's not stupidity. It's just that most people in the ecosystem are formulating an opinion based on a fraction of the data and possible implications.

Quote
If so, then Bitcoin is doomed anyways and we should just all give up. If there are no arguments pro core and/or against this XT implementation then I don't see what you're trying to say here.

I'm saying leave the experts of the core team to do their work. They know what to do and they're doing it well.

Quote
PS. You can disagree with Gavin, but to suggest that he doesn't know what he's doing warrants a bit of an explanation. I would be very interested to hear how he went from chief scientist to bumbling ignoramus.

Well, if avg block size is currently at 0.4mb (and even that is full of dust / spam txs which will be wiped out once fee competition starts for 1mb inclusion) and he says we "urgently" need 8mb and that's a very serious reason to fork it while in the process creating a rift among the devs and risking market uncertainty, well... you don't need to be a rocket scientist to realize that something very fishy is going on.

I don't believe he doesn't know what he is doing. He probably knows full well. It's the whole false rationale, motives and modus operandi that I'm having issues with.

If you look at the number of transactions between Jul 2013 and Jan 2014 there is a period where the number of transactions excluding popular addresses doubles. What I see is that if we get another bull run like that, the blocksize will probably hit the ceiling. So there is a bit of urgency to it.

Now, we might not have another bull run any time soon, but in case it happens next month I'd like to see that somebody has a solution lined up. And at this point I fear that a fee hike might strangle Bitcoin in its infancy.

In any event, why do we have to wait until the house is on fire before we buy a fire extinguisher?

And if you, and everyone else who are such gung ho core loyalists, really believe Gavin has a hidden agenda, could you please tell me what that agenda is thought to be? There's a lot of cloudy insinuations, but nothing really to suggest that he wants anything else than what he deems to be best for Bitcoin.

I'm wondering how BTC is supposed to react to the global financial collapse in september:
http://www.24hgold.com/english/news-gold-silver-full-on-crash-alert-for-major-world-markets--.aspx

In expectation of the imminent doom, gold is showing some resiliency lately, and gold and BTC have been positively correlated most of the time, so maybe there is hope. I'm just sorry to not have gone full metal at near parity. Maybe I'm still in time for silver.
