3961  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ANN] KRAKEN.COM - Exchange with USD EUR GBP JPY CAD BTC LTC XRP NMC XDG STR ETH on: July 16, 2019, 04:38:07 PM
Hi,

Someone know how much time it takes to be intermediate verified ? I am waiting since 8 days. My documents were verified, but I am still waiting to get my account verified...

Regards

I'm "intermediate verified ", It took me about 1-2 hour(s), it would have been faster if I had scanned my card correctly. It was 2 or 3 months ago. They were also replying to my emails within minutes.
You should already have your account upgraded since, maybe they forgot to update your account. Did you contact them since?
3962  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Dominance rising again. What is happening? on: July 16, 2019, 12:39:52 PM
I stumbled upon this PDF from my local forum explaining Bitcoin has entered stealth phase of bull run
A substantial Bitcoin's growth but a very little public awareness is associated with a stealth phase. The PDF explains much more but I just wanted to show this.

Quote
From historical data, Bitcoin dominance seems to inversely correlate with the public interest. In the peak public awareness period of every cycle, Bitcoin has always experienced the final and sharpest linear growth. This final sharp growth is also historically paired with the explosive growth of alt coins and violent decline in bitcoin dominance.

3963  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you be mad if satoshi sold all coins they own right now? on: July 16, 2019, 12:14:23 PM
He wouldn't be crazy enough to sell all his bitcoins at once unless his original goal was really to crash the market value one day.
But I doubt that this is the case (unless it was the really NSA that created BTC lol). I wouldn't be mad at him but I would like if he can tell me before he decides to sell in waves, so I can exit before.
3964  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-07-16] Canadian Town Says Yes to Accepting Bitcoin for Property Taxes on: July 16, 2019, 11:39:44 AM
There will need to have the volume to make it consistent (not just a dozen dudes using it). This person from Coinberry is smart, because yes, it will create an opportunity for the citizens interested to pay the taxes with BTC, but more for the company, since the municipality won't hold its bitcoins. #money.

They really don't like virtual visa cards if you refer to ones not linked to an individual banking account, once their system detects a cc number for which it doesn't recognize the issuer it's instantly flagged.
I got two of them removed from my payment options with no explanation whatsoever, just because they were issued by our postal service, not really a bank, but in cooperation with a bank.

They're so crazy, the funny thing is I knew few people using these same cards for months but they never had a problem, only me.

Wow, you have one of those flush commands devive or something more high tech?
I was planning on getting on install ones to do some automated flushing when closing the light since my kid is....whatever

Yeah, I can control the house by voice with Echo, all rooms have one. Even I can talk to my TV. I automated a lot of things like start the heating according to the temperature outside or changing the light if it rains. Every day I wake up and say "Hello", It turns on my tassimo for my coffee, turn on the light, give me the BTC price, and then the flash news, etc. So many things to do, supermarket lists, auto buy with Amazon...
I even have a robot vacuum cleaner on autopilot daily.

My grandmother is 93 years old and she is living alone in a house. She has only me and it's not always easy. I bought everything to equip her entire house. She is so happy because it helps her a lot.

By the way, in memory to bitcointalk, the voice call me "Sir!" Cheesy
3966  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is it possible to trade WITHOUT exchange? on: July 15, 2019, 11:24:41 PM
...

Exchanges platforms are trustless, you can't rely on it 100% Because using it, you put yourself at risk to lose money/coins, either if the site is hacked, seized, IT failure, and so on... Not even talking your account can be limited/suspended and it can be a nightmare to get your capital back. Or another story could be à la MtGox, brief, there are plenty of things to consider. People can remove most of these risks by using decentralized exchanges.

Fees are inevitable unless people agree to use a broken website with a free hosting package. Infrastructures have a cost, workers, too.
3967  Economy / Economics / Re: FED Chairmain compares Bitcoin to Gold on: July 15, 2019, 10:31:48 PM
I think that gold could lose its value in the next decades, because there are already plans and ideas to mine valuable resources like gold and platinum on asteroids.

On asteroids?  Cheesy
Anyway, the point was not really about the value of gold or Bitcoin in the future but rather as how Bitcoin is compared to gold. The store of value story, or a saving account to make it short.
Someone above was comparing the gold market with real estate, it's a horrible comparison, both aren't even comparable in any way.
3968  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Free Amazon Gift Cards - how to protect ourself ? on: July 15, 2019, 08:47:32 PM

...

Once they banned me for using a virtual Visa card. And I'm 100% sure the card was 'legal' since I got it myself, and not from a foreign user on the web but from a company...owned by Visa. (Almost everything in my house is connected to Amazon (even the toilets are on wifi) so I'm not crazy to risk my account)

It took about 1 year (and so many emails) to get my account back, at the end I was acting like a village idiot, well it worked better than giving every crazy paper they asked me. Never ever I will use a VCC with Amazon, even one issued by my bank.

3969  Economy / Web Wallets / So Coinbase & Blockchain.info were the first web-hosted wallet? on: July 15, 2019, 08:20:36 PM
Does anyone remember what web-hosted wallet was available before the arrival of Coinbase & blockchain.info? If any...

Blockchain.info came on January 2012
Coinbase started to be active again* on February 2012 but look like the wallet was functional on May 2012

I can't even think about a 3rd name that came around this time too.

*Interesting to see the domain name Coinbase was already used back in 2001 (parked domain only)
3970  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Which exchange from the list have the lowest bitcoin withdrawal fee? on: July 15, 2019, 06:44:19 PM
One thing that I do when I need to use multiple exchanges (especially last year when there were multiple forks to be claimed) is to withdrawal XRP. Usually XRP withdrawal fee is very low, like 0,25 XRP.

Then I consolidate XRP from various exchanges in just one, convert XRP to BTC,  and then make one BTC withdrawal.

What is a little surprising is the fact that exchange platforms increased the fee a while back (to avoid to see their clients yelling because their withdraws take too much time (ie. Coinbase) But nowadays the fee charged doesn't make sense, $10 (0.001BTC) for a transaction while you can send the same Tx paying less 5 satoshis/bytes.

You can also lose money by doing as you say, I mean the fees to trade Xcoins>>XRP then XRP<<BTC
3971  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Dominance rising again. What is happening? on: July 15, 2019, 05:48:13 PM
Do you remember the time where so many coins were created monthly? I think this period is starting again and is even worse... if I'm correct we got over 300 news altcoins within 6 months. No need to debate to say we agree 99.99% of them are just shit. Since it's shit, they fade and die and are forgotten. Mathematically BTC's dominance increases so. Not sure if it makes sense lol
3972  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Tax on buying bitcoin for a friend on: July 15, 2019, 05:32:20 PM
Yes, your friend needs to report that as well. He will just need to say he bought at $xxx and sold at $xxx (to you). What would be great is if you can sign a paper between both to just to say he sold it to you.  No tax if no gain of course.

If you buy bitcoins on July 12, 2019, the value to consider is the price on July 12, not the day your friend bought the coins. You can't say the bitcoins were your before that because it was your friend

Beware of random strangers on the internet giving tax and legal advice.

Yeah but if you read my post again and if you have already filled a tax paper once in your life you will see that the two points I gave are common and logic for every one used to fill a tax paper. This is basically so evident that there is no need to ask, and no matter the country you come from.
It's not like if I was giving a complex scheme so OP can avoid to pay the due taxes
3973  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My Bitcoin Conspiracy theory on: July 15, 2019, 01:18:14 PM
Actually we know that the Creators of Bitcoins were a Team an not an institution .
It may have been powered by some institute from the sidelines but at the end of the day , I think its highly unlikely to actually see a pattern in the highs and lows .
If they were manipulating the price then it would have happened more often .
Why would they wait from 2017 to 2019? When they can fuel up the price rally anytime.?
The whales might work together but you know ,then being Satoshi is very unlikely because the creator would want it to grow , not being manipulated by big business authorities.

Lie, nobody knows and nobody can claims a team created Bitcoin rather than an institution, nor the person, or group, behind it is from Japan (as @OP claims) This is just fantasies backed by hallucinations spread over the web (à la Alex Jones).

Why would they wait for between 2017 to 2019? A reason could be they wanted to clean the market (from the weak hands, or whatever you can think about it), another reason could because it's a step in their manipulation... So many things we can think about it.
3974  Economy / Economics / Re: FED Chairmain compares Bitcoin to Gold on: July 15, 2019, 12:59:20 PM
I personally don't think it's a big deal. He basically said that Bitcoin is a speculative store of value, and majority of its holders use it as such. He didn't paint it in a positive light at all, just that Bitcoin can perform gold's role (with no mention of its efficacy) in that respect.

I guess it's nice to have an age-old comparison being validated by someone in a position of power though.

At least I think it shows that people's attitudes (especially in the finance industry) are starting to change about Bitcoin's reputation, but also its use. Five years ago, the FED had a completely different speech about cryptocurrencies.

- 10 Years when they heard about a digital and decentralized currency, they were like this =>  Cheesy
- 5 Years ago when they heard Bitcoin start to be useful and popular, they were like this =>  Shocked
- 2019 they start to realize its potential to compete with centralized currencies, they're like this =>  Cry
3975  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-07-14] Wells Fargo Won’t Allow Customers To Buy Bitcoin on: July 15, 2019, 12:33:03 PM
This is a piece of old news from last year twisted to make it fresh for 2019. If you remember there was another bank quoted at the same time for doing the same thing.

And by the way, it's only to purchase bitcoin with a credit card (not even sure for debit cards) because at this time a trend started with people buying bitcoins with a credit loan tied to their card, and the trend was also to: either not pay the monthly payment back, or/and keep buying more bitcoins (on credits ofc...)
3976  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: trading and selling crypto is illegal. bank wants to know source of income on: July 13, 2019, 08:44:46 AM
Not necessarily if you think about it. If that would have been the case they would not even have asked you the question. They would have decided to close your bank account, and they would have asked you for another account to pay you back what was left on your account.
While in the letter they ask you for proof of origin. You should give them by explaining as you said, specifying that all verifications have been made to the trading platform, and you also give screenshots or other of your deposits/trade/cashout.
We have something similar in my country. And usually, it's when you handle large amounts of money in a short period of time (ie. 5000€/30days)

Also please describe what is the reason that the funs must be tranferred through your accounts in different countries?
You're not located in the country?
3977  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price falls why?? on: July 12, 2019, 10:45:17 PM
Its not a proper fall if anything I expect a price rise this weekend, its seems to be that way when main market shuts we are able to rise slightly more easily.    Then sunday night open is a bump back into full trading

https://i.imgur.com/ykgBTUy.png

Here orange line is a rough weekly average.   True we have been under it and falling some but its also returning to this mean and right this moment it seems likely to exceed this - hence strength in price

It does this each weekend since about April, (except the last week). Start to watch on Friday at 7.00 pm, it starts already and continues the whole weekend, and when Sunday comes it does as you said. or Monday morning before 6.am.
Look at right now, we're Friday night and see the market, it's doing it again. I would bet $10 bucks we will see $12k tomorrow before 1.00 pm.
3978  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-07-12] Major Australian Supermarket Chain Now Accepts Bitcoin on: July 12, 2019, 10:26:10 PM
Lucky Aussies. This is what I would like to see in my country, being able to pay the cashier with bitcoins, a real Bitcoin use.
I wonder what the merchants are charged to process a payment with the terminal, just to compare with what they are charged when the client pays with Visa/Mastercard.
3979  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Positives of Industrialization on: July 12, 2019, 09:39:10 PM
Sure, cancers, hybrid food, pollution, animal abuses, deforestation, child labor are also the trends that go with, but hey 'Change is inevitable. Adjust to it.'
Industrialization on a certain scale certainly but humanity is stupid enough to kill itself
3980  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ANN] KRAKEN.COM - Exchange with USD EUR GBP JPY CAD BTC LTC XRP NMC XDG STR ETH on: July 12, 2019, 08:43:31 PM
I don't remember who said SEPA transfers will soon be instants with EU banks but just to say it already exists since sometimes, I have this option in my bank account, it works great but not every time (it doesn't work if you make a SEPA transfer to a bank mobile app or neobanks)

I said it, about 5 post ago. True, some banks have had instant transfer for a while.

But now this is coming to every bank in the SEPA area. Max 10 seconds for transfers between any two accounts up to 15k €. 24/7/365.

(15k€ per transaction or per day?)
I didn't know it was becoming popular I thought they considered me VIP Cheesy. Neither there is a limit of 15k€. But the current limit I have is
1 instant transfer daily. I believe I need to pay a fee if I want to make more instant transfers ( like 1€ per transaction).
To be honest, it's a long time since banks invented something useful.
