There is no need to discuss war or the vastly great, illusive, power of the government.

By speaking of the government and their doings, you are giving them power, you are manifesting their control over reality into existence.

Your thoughts create your reality.  The truth is, the government does not rule the world, you do.  We control everything about this world as individuals in a collective.

Stop focusing on what you perceive to be negative and it will stop manifesting in life.

The world is turning into a beautiful place.  Unless you believe the government can convince their armies to slaughter every child that stands on this earth, there is no reason to fear the future.  We are the future.

Humans forgot how to live as a child even as they age.  Let go of the past and live in the moment of now.  Each day is a new day.  What made us young as children was the light we each held as we entered this earth.

Regain that light by bettering your physical and mental self and others around you.

If you wish to end the horror you see in the world, all we must do is spread the light from ourselves to one another.  We do not need to fight.  All we need is love.  Love spreads endlessly.

This is true if you are going to sit around and do nothing about it. But for people who want to spread freedom across America and the world, search in DuckDuckGo and Youtube on "Bill Thornton common law" and "Karl Lentz common law." Then get your education. And then start using it. You can put illegal and unlawful government down.

Nice job being the millionth person to use Pascal's Wager

All we have guaranteed is this life, I'd rather spend my time living it to the fullest than praising some god that may or may not exist in the off chance that he does and wants to burn us in a fiery hell for the rest of eternity if we don't believe in and respect him.

You want respect. What if God exists, and wants respect a thousand times more than you do?

I don't want nor expect respect from people who don't know I exist.
The contrary would be unsanely stupid. You can't hide in the woods so that nobody sees you and yet being mad that people don't respect/like/have faith in you.
If god is actually like this he should seek professional help.

Yes. It's my fault. I should be writing short posts. How can I expect anyone to read some of the long things I post? At least, I hope that is what it is.

I'm really having a hard time here. What I mean is, if God didn't exist, that is, if it were a for-real, proven fact that God didn't exist, that would clarify some things. But it hasn't been proven that God does NOT exist.

Now, since we don't have a way of scientifically proving that God does or doesn't exist, I am having a hard time understanding how foolish some of these bold people can be, that they would mock God. I mean, what if He exists?

If God doesn't exist, any reverence for Him that I might show would be wasted. If the reverence happened to be in the form of $money that I donated to a church, then I would at least be donating to the support of some preacher. It would be like I was helping him and his family to live, no matter how ignorant and foolish they were. And I could feel a little bit of pride in that.

But what if God DOES exist? You don't REALLY know that He doesn't. Some of you should be a little more quiet, rather than mocking of something you don't know.

If there is a God, there is a good chance that He isn't just a little bit God, but that He just might be God Almighty. You are going to die in a few years. If you don't honor the idea of God existing, and He DOES exist, He has all time to mess with you if He wants. I would think THAT would induce a little respect of the idea, so at least you would act civilly towards the idea.

If it ever gets proven that there is NO God, then you have all the time you want to freely mock.  But until you have the proof, how can you be so foolish as to tempt something that might be as great as God? Some of your fellow mockers who have departed this life, might already be suffering in great pain and agony, on some other planet, in some other dimension, totally outside of your sight.

You want respect. What if God exists, and wants respect a thousand times more than you do?

Hey, be nice to animals who are not harming you.

However, if you happen to harm an animal that is owned by someone, pay your debt to that person.

If you harm an animal that is owned by the state, or one that is not owned, here is your protection, in the common law countries, at least:

Remember. Cops answer to their sergeant, who answers to the lieutenant, who answers to the captain, who answers to the police commissioner, who answers to the city council. While the chain of command isn't always the same, the city council is the group that should have made sure that the policing policies that were set in place did not offer a chance to harm anyone.

You have a way more likely chance of being killed by a police officer than you do by any other kind of terrorist. Get after your city council and force them to install training and policies in your police department that protect you rather than harm you. If they won't do this, arm yourself, and demand the removal of the police department.

Consider common law litigation, which doesn't follow police policy or statute law.

Religions, just like everything that's human, have got good and bad things (except true love, because true love is always good - true love is not passion or possession). I personally don't like or follow any religion, and believe that "God" do not depend on any of these human inventions. (I also feel fine with Buddhism/Taoism)

This is where the hard part starts, especially for folks who don't have any background in religion.

It's reasonably easy to see that there is a God. All one need do is look at the marvels of the universe around himself. The trick is figuring out enough details about God to see what pleases Him, or to see if there is any point in finding out more about Him.

The religions of the world are run by people, as you say. Some of the people are good, some aren't. Some are sincere, some are out to make a quick buck off you. The quest should be to find out about the God of the universe.

You can fight off people. If the people of a religion join together to attack you, you can join others who are like-minded as yourself, and protect your group.

The quest should be to find out what God says. Why? Because anyone strong enough to play with the "mechanics" of the universe is someone I would NOT want to piss off. I can fight people who attack me. But what strength would I have against God if He decided to attack me?

My point exactly! Greater is the punishment of missing out on the joys Heaven, than all the sufferings of all the hells. Of course, anyone in hellfire won't know what he missed out on, so he is spared that at least.

The religious moron atheists won't make it to Heaven. That's the whole point, that and that they are dragging a whole bunch of former God-believing people along with them to hell.

And why is that bad?!  Shocked

Part of the thing that sends people to everlasting hellfire is not believing in God. Of course, there are folks who would like to see some people in hell. So for them it might not be bad.

State the doctrines you find at atheism that would put it in a shitlist.

None other than the doctrine that there is no God.  Smiley

are we talking about God Fro the Bible or just a general God that created us?

I think that the general consensus would be the God of the Bible. Basically, because of the history of the English speaking peoples, and this being an English speaking forum, it would probably be the God of the Bible.

EDIT: All right. Recent history of the English speaking peoples.

The universe is infinite but we are the only lifeform here, anything else is blasphemy! <- sarcasm, use logic

I've seen UFO's in the sky (yeah I use drugs but I have had a sober time too, seen them during that time as well). UFO being unidentified flying object, if you stare up long enough during nights you usually see something move in a way it shouldn't. Last one I saw with somebody else with me flew very fast, was bright (solid light no flickering). I saw one when I was at rehab and I had 2 other people with me who also saw it when I told them look at that, it went in a straight direction for a while and moved up to a cloudy area to vanish, with the speed it flew we should have seen it after 10 seconds tops but never saw it again. I dunno what it was but no airplane, satellite or rocket can fly like that. We just asked where the fuck did it go and that's that people just think you are fucked up if you talk like that. Smiley

As for Aliens, considering how large the place we exist in is it would be strange if there were no other lifeforms, it would also be strange if there werent tens of thousands or millions of it. And one of those lifeforms may very well have advanced 1 million years before us. Or 100 million, we don't know that much about the universe except that Pluto is no longer a planet, hell we don't even know what swims at the very very deepest depths of our sea's, we don't know everything about our own planet so how could we know about the rest?
Use logic and let time tell, one thing is for sure, they wont invade us anytime soon nor make contact in the sense I'd like to see.

one thing is for sure, they wont invade us anytime soon nor make contact in the sense I'd like to see. How do you know that exactly?

Who knows, they might be searching for a new place to stay, they killed their own planet..

If Earth is the place they want, they better hurry... 'cause we're killin' our planet.   Angry

I still think it was a person in one of the rich families who rule the world. This guy (gal?) didn't like the way the bankers were running the show, and put together a team to develop Bitcoin... with the hopes that he just might be able to save the world - at least his family - from the coming fiat destruction that the bankers have so ignorantly condemned the world to.

Having accomplished this, that secret "Satoshi Team" is pushing ahead to make Bitcoin into something super strong, behind the scenes.

Still waiting for bitcoin to rise, it has been dropping since I bought...

Standard investing wisdom says, when the price is rising, sell. Went the price is dropping, buy.

The method for buying and selling should be based on a general program of buy or selling in chunks. Markets generally do not make long-term moves overnight. There are exceptions, like Microsoft in its early days. And, there are many penny stocks that disappear forever. But generally, do something like increasing or decreasing your holdings by a percentage or amount you are comfortable with, on a regular basis.

If the market is dropping, buy, a little this week, a little next week, a little the following week, and so on. If the market is rising, sell, a little this week, a little next week, a little the following week, and so on. Make your own rules and follow them.

Use a percentage of your balance for selling. That way you always remain in the market. Use an amount for buying. That way the purchase doesn't go beyond your means.

If things continue on as they have been going, it will probably be easier to massage Bitcoin into something that is better.

If there is a BIG change in technology, or the politics of the world, only then might we see a new form that is not Bitcoin at all.

39619  Other / Off-topic / Re: Are Societies Better-off without God? on: October 03, 2014, 05:11:51 AM
RELIGIOUS belief can cause damage to a society, contributing towards high murder rates, abortion, sexual promiscuity and suicide, according to research published today.

Well of course.

Let's say two people commit a murder and get away with it.  The non-religious one will still have to live with his guilt and shame his entire life.  The religious one just prays to his god for forgiveness and continues life with a clear concious.

With religion, you have a "get out of jail free" card that basically nullifies the moral compass.

The only major religions that I can think of that fall into the "forgiveness" category would be Jewish and Christian. Both of these religions offer forgiveness only to those who have faith in the religion. Faith in the religion means sincerity with the idea of not doing such a thing as murder. A person of one of these two religions, who thinks that he has safety in his religion while committing murder, because of the forgiveness idea, has deluded himself into false thinking.

Quote
A man tormented by the guilt of murder will be a fugitive till death; let no one support him.

Quote
You shall not murder.

Quote
When such a person hears the words of this oath, he invokes a blessing on himself and therefore thinks, “I will be safe, even though I persist in going my own way.” This will bring disaster on the watered land as well as the dry. The LORD will never be willing to forgive him; his wrath and zeal will burn against that man. All the curses written in this book will fall upon him, and the LORD will blot out his name from under heaven.

Forgiveness is only granted where there is sincerity, a sincere wish that the murder had never been done, a sincere wish intent to never do it again.

People change. People are "flaky." If a person forgets how he was sincere, and does the wrong again, and then again in sincerity repents, he is forgiven again. The danger is that every time this happens, the sincerity is dulled a little more. There just might come a point when the repentance sincerity is a complete lie. When this happens, the belief in forgiveness doesn't enter in, and there is no forgiveness any longer.

It isn't a free-for-all in Judaism or Christianity.

Societies do not exist without God. Why? Because people would not exist without God.

People are people. Take a look at past societies. The idea of God suggests moral and ethical rules. A society is strong when it keeps the moral and ethical rules that God provides. Once the society deviates from the rules that God provides, it fails and falls.

People are people. Some of the people who follow the laws of God the best, are those who don't believe in God. Some of the worst people - ones who break the laws of God the most - are those who confess to believing in Him. BUT THIS ISN'T THE NORM. Mostly it is the believers in God who follow His rules. The society stands strong when most of the people believe in God.

Smiley

Perhaps in my post quoted above, I am skirting the question. Perhaps the real question is, are societies better off existing than not existing. They wouldn't exist without God.

Smiley

EDIT: Societies wouldn't exist without God, whether they acknowledge Him or not.
