39781  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Turning off miners on: January 17, 2015, 01:59:37 PM
I switched out all my s-3's to  8 sp20's and 1 s-5
My winter power is 13 cents but  get about 3 cents in savings from the heat.
So I am 10 cents net until April.
Price drops under 100 and stays there for 1 month  I will shut down.
I may use the s-5 at freq 100 and solo mine it. Until it dies.

I run 10-12gh at a solo pool will run that till the gear dies as the cost is low.

Around 215 per coin.   Guess it could be worse but sure hope to see price go back up a little more.

my birthday is this Jan 27 .

So a new diff may come on my birthday.
I want  a 41 diff and 260 price on my birthday.  I could live with that.

I am getting other fears about the industry.

Gridseed blades went from 3000 usd to 100 usd and   LTC went from   40 usd to 2 usd.

I can see s-5's selling off at 200usd in an effort from bitmaintech to get out of the business.

I do not think we need this firesale.

What is the hash rate, and is noise really so loud?

stock settings = 1150gh at freq 350 and sound is 72-74db.  plus it is nasty pitch with the stock fan.

"nasty pitch", it's closer to a cat being tortured. Worst than those high speed 40mm fans in network switches. I sold my first two (and only) within 24 hours of receiving them. Modding them simply isn't worth the cost.

the 2 deltas cost 8 bucks each.  but I had a power supply to give them perfect volts

Does anyone use 2fan for cooling?

Planning to put on two 1500rpm fans to keep quite this thing.
  dont  waste of money

two of these are the best.

my tests with them

you can go low with 5.5 volts   to the fans --------------freq 300 990 gh very quiet

or high with 9.2 volts to the fans-------------------------freq 393 1292 gh  10 db less then the stock fan.

Thanks I would have gotten those the only reason I did not is because I want the 4-wire fan not three I want to use the fan header on Controller.

Well now I am stuck with two Silverstone's which will be here Monday 1/19/2015 !!!

ahh the silverstones don't cool as well as the delta's.  but they are pretty good.
39786  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: S-5 review. It has arrived some info is in! on: January 16, 2015, 05:41:36 PM

It was a few pages back .  Some one was selling 5 deltas for 41 bucks.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/191443200211?

4 pin pwm's

he now has sets of 2 for 15 + 5 = 20 dollars

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Delta-AFB1212SHE-Computer-Case-Power-Fan-120X120mm-Lot-of-2-/191472588964?pt=US_Computer_Case_Fans&hash=item2c94a7d8a4

truly these are really good if you use  2 in a push pull at  5.5-6 volts they are really quiet and allow for  a 990gh quiet miner. freq 300

if you use 7 volts  they are pretty quiet and allow for freq 325-350

at 9.2 volts they are better then the stock fan and allow overclock.

I did not bother setting them as pwm as I want a freq super quiet miner .  I send 5.5 volts to the fans   and I am doing this.:

oke thanks,
What do you think the noise will be with pwm?
I have my s5's now with s3 fans push - pull, but it is still quite loud! I run them @ 350 or 375
I am thinking of replacing them.
the delta's on ebay are better then the s-3 fans but only by a little.

Remember a s-5 at freq is close to 600 watts. at freq 375 it is over 600 watts.

They are a bit better then the s-3 fans.  Somewhere on the forum someone was able to run them pwm.
39787  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: s5 power consumption question , please help on: January 16, 2015, 05:37:06 PM
and sadly no decent short term ROI.

for most roi will not be found for more then 90 days.

If anyone in Canada is interested and doesn't want to pay shipping and import charges, I have a bunch of 25mm (WFB1212H - 87CFM 37dBA - no PWM, FFC1212DE - 140dBA 54dBA - PWM) and 38mm (TFC1212DE - 252CFM 66dBA PWM) fans laying around I probably won't use again. I have about a dozen each of the 25mm ones, and I think about 20 of the 38mm Deltas (or their Nidec equivalent) though some of the 38mm ones don't have 0.1" headers on yet.

yeah these s-5's with a pair of your delta's the ffc1212de   the 140 cfm

 I think are nice gear.
I bolded your quote  as It may be a typo.

S1 fan is better than no fan, but S5 fan is a lot more powerful than S1, so you may struggle to keep S5 cold enough...

Ok I finally install everything.
With my setup, I cant run at 350. I run at 275 and get around 875 gh
But the sound is almost 0.

The temps are 63 and 54 is that ok ?

Im also looking to put 2 S1 fan on it but the wire is to short I need to find extender.  Tongue

Totally Understand that! Just want to fine a good way to mine at a good temp with a resonable sound level.
2 S1 fan in push pull should be good ? What is the CFM of the S1 fan ?

Assuming the price holds I think we'll see the S3's and all miners released prior to their introduction slowly get turned off.
Does anyone know if BitFury has their new chip up mining?  They said it would be released around now but I don't think it's actually up in mass yet.

yeah this diff and the next will be very interesting.  Along with btc price.

It is pretty simple  math we have at least 80ph in s-3's network wide.

If you are over 12 cents a kwatt your s3 is losing money.

I have to think that s3 owners are hoping to go back to a 300 usd price.  They are holding on at least for a while.

The s3 now sells on ebay for  118 and make a best offer.

Interesting. 3 sp20's for <1200$ now!!! ballin! w/free shipping (more ballin)

the question is how will bitmain respond? Surely simply matching this price is not sufficient.... Shocked

and  bitmaintech sell 3 s-5's for   3 x 340 = 1020 coupons can be as high as 45 each so 1020 - 135 = 885 plus shipping of 118 total of

1003  ..    I do not think they will drop the price.

as 1003 after shipping and coupons beats 1199.

I'd pay the extra 200 =)

well I have 8 sp20's and 1 s-5   so you can see what I prefer.

I am in a private home and I do have the room for 1 more s-5.

I have to down clock it to freq 300 and add 2 delta fans but it would be quiet. 47 -48 db

I think I am going to do this.

I will have 8 and 2. about 12th and 6 kwatts of power

s-4 wants how much for power 1200 watts for 2000gh?  or more like 1350 watts for 2000gh.

hi,
a beginner question here...how do we know if we found a block when joining this solo mining pool?
thank you.
Edited: using rented rigs where we can not have a look at the cgminer's stat.

you won't know.  It will be up to the pool to be honest.  now consider this someone paid for rentals a few days ago.

and how many blocks did he hit 3 or 4 now IIRC.

39797  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: s5 power consumption question , please help on: January 16, 2015, 04:46:38 AM
so if im paying 7.562 cents per kWh

what does it cost per day to run one S5??

here you go:

.51 or .52 watts  a gh

so stock speed is 1150 gh

 so .52 x 1150 = 598 watts  lets say 600 watts

600 x 24 = 14400 watts or 14.4 kwatts

make that 15 kwatts

15 x 7.6 cents = $1.14 usd a day  or

1.14 x 30 =       $34.20 usd a month

close for stock speed with a decent psu.

two s-1's   in push pull will work at least to freq 325.  I tested them.  the cfm of them is around 129-135 and they penetrate air in and out of the heatsinks  pretty well.

Hands down the best is a pair of the delta's from the ebay link.

You can run  quiet (db 47.7)  at freq 300 hash rate 990  or run up to freq 393 at 1290-1300 dp of 60-62

the stock fan at freq 393 does db of 75 +   and struggles to cool the s-5.

If super clock is you goal a stock fan and 1 delta gave me freq 412   decent  hash rate 1315-1325   crazy loud db 78-80
39800  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain is one crooked company! on: January 15, 2015, 05:26:22 PM
One S3 should run just fine even on the most weak shitty PSU. even if the PSU burns, the miner should be just fine, if the connectors are not melted. If there are melted connectors, then it's a bit different.

That's not true. On the way out a PSU won't necessarily stick to 12V as various internal things start turning to goop.

you are correct but  the op said he could run 3 100gh. r boxes  that is   about 375 watts.  so  I am thinking the first s-3 was a bad unit. remember he got the end of life s-3's .---------------------I base this on the assumption the op is telling the truth.

If he honestly though that an S3 had blown up his perfectly good / adequate PSU, why would he put a further THREE PSUs on that unit as each subsequently fails? I don't think we're getting the full story.

yeah.    I kind of doubt the story.    I would have  stopped as soon as I killed 1 psu and asked questions.

But I have had days of extreme stupidity  with electrontics. A Marantz  monoblock amp comes to mind.  I thought the fuses were defective.

I kept putting in bigger fuses thinking that would fix the problem!!!!  So when I finally got up to a 30 amp fuse from the oem 3 amp I blow the Marantz up.  When I look back at that I do not have an explanation for my testing procedure other then extreme stupidity .

So maybe the op was guilty of an off day. Hard to tell I am not inside his head.
